PES 2013 Discussion Thread

I think you've misread the patchnotes. The only reference to a fix for a financial system bug relates to Master League Online.

There's nothing 'wrong' with ML's finances – just as there's nothing 'wrong' with ML for what it is. There are no bugs affecting the flow of the seasons from one to the next. You're not meant to be able to sign better players as quickly as in years gone by. What you see as brokenness is a new level of difficulty within the ML game-world that you currently don't like.

The form arrows thing is a bloody annoying feature of the early seasons that soon settles down. It makes no sense at any time, granted, but what else does make sense in Master League? When has this mode ever been – word of the month – authentic? Sure, many things are so annoying as to be counter-immersive, but immersion and authenticity are not the same thing.

In a nutshell: for your inevitable restart next week on the all-new and organic 1.02, just take your time, relax a bit with the game. It will always screw you over in some way, somehow, eventually.

Yet another unnecessarily sarcastic post. Congratulations. One day you'll actually make a post that isn't seeking to talk down to someone. And for the record, there are bugs in ML. Teamwork stats don't work properly, but then again I wouldnt expect you to recognise that. And finances too don't always take into account sponsorship money in their projections for the year. But again, go right ahead with the sarcasm.

I'm most amazed though at your ability to misinterpret things I say. I never said I couldn't sign better players, I said I couldn't sign ANY players, even those far worse than I already had. There's a massive difference.

But seriously, cut it with the sarcasm bullshit.

Yeah he's a regular comedian. There's so much petty ganging up on here it's really getting pathetic.

I genuinely find him to be hilarious bud, I absolutely love his crack. And let's not be mistaken here, the whole 'organic' buzz word is also a pop at me. I have no problem with that though. It's funny.

Like I said before, the subtle changes in gameplay that some people feel, and some people don't, will be debated as long as I have a hole in my ass.

Again, I have no problem with that.

And there is no ganging up here bud, I'm totally impartial, I enjoy reading you both. Always will. :)

Hello 'not-Greg' ;)

I've had that said to me before on here, but I'm not, and find that site largely unreadable. Other peoples' ML stories don't really grab me. Sorry if you're reading this, not-Greg, just my personal taste there.

Anyone remember a poster from years ago called Terry Butcher who used to cut and paste articles from other PES sites as his own comments? I always thought that was him.

You have to understand something! Engines are not responsible for what PES is now! You must blame the people behind engine, working with engine , who made and coding the game. Blame people who decide to add or remove anything on the game, blame the people who are breaking through the vision of football and what a football game should be.

And again I say! Even using the most powerful engine, if these are the same people, if they see things with the same way, if they do his work in the same way, do not expect a better or different product.

I disagree, Rob.

Aesthetics is something Konami can compete on. They had the better looking game on the PS2 and still do now in my opinion. PES has always boasted better player models, kits, faces, hair, pitch textures, stadium models, etc. What lets it down is the presentation, i.e. menus, in-game overlays...those kind of things where EA excels.

Licences are difficult but they can compete if they are willing to invest. Look at the Champions League acquisition, for instance.

Pick-up-and-play: always a hallmark of a good PES. Easy to learn but with plenty of depth.

In my opinion PES needs to win back some of those fans it lost to Fifa, not give up and take a hardcore-orientated stance. The market for any hardcore simulation is a small, niche market almost by definition, and PES is very much a mass-market game. That's where the money is. PES has never been a full-blown sim and never will be. What Konami must do is strike the casual/hardcore balance that they hit so well on the PS2.

I don't buy all the "gameplay is fundamental" talk. That's a dated perspective. In the age of HD displays, 5.1 surround sound and online gaming, the whole package needs to be thoroughly strong in all areas. That's why Fifa wins out big time.

Agree with most of that, although I still think gameplay wins out at the most fundamental, core level, but to win back more fans you're right they need that whole package.

Also, on the graphics, I too prefer PES' graphical style to FIFA one hundred percent. If they can just get it actually in proper HD, improve animations and lighting, they'll be laughing. I personally hate the FIFA style, player models look wrong and the whole thing has a cartoon-like appearance to it.

Thats whats so striking about the whole situation, no pun intended :p. They already have better and more realistic looking player models, more realism-oriented momentum/inertia model, compared to FIFA's smooth animation transitions but cartoony player models and movement physics.

If they now smooth out the animation transitions on the new engine they WILL be laughing, they'll have a game that looks like NBA 2K and it will be like the PS2 days, clearly visible which game LOOKS more realistic. If they get that right I'm sure many fans will come back just for the aesthetics, even though it sounds shallow its true. If your game looks stunning more people are likely to play it.

But this is Konami, so it could go either way

I was a bit late to the party in terms of checking these forums for news/updates, but does anyone know why there are game modes missing from this version?

They are obviously still using the same groundwork as PES 2012, just tweaked - so why the backward steps?

The rating system in this game gets madder every year. Borini just scored 5 goals from 6 shots (all on target), is rewarded with a staggering 7.5 rating. Borini scoring 5 may not seem overly realistic, but he did have magic boots on.

Yeah the rating system has always been a bit strange in PES.

I have no mathematical basis behind this, but I think it's because things such as completed passes, passes intercepted, yards covered and so on are regarded nearly as importantly as goals or assists in the rating system.

However they do it in FM seems accurate to me, either Konami or EA should get Sports Interactive onboard one of these years :P.

Dream within a dream is one of my favourite phrases by a well known poet.
It sounded completely organic and the inertia just blew me away. Hope it wasn't all just placebo and I woke to find a disturbing reality ;). Anyway, on topic. When I do have time to play the game after working twelve hour days plus weekends, I intend to have fun, so that's the way I treat it.
Take it easy people, life is too short. Have fun, sleep when you're dead.
@ Rob. You missed a full stop after one of your sentences ;).

Just have this to say -

I tried FIFA yesterday on the PC, out of the box, and with sliders, different difficulty levels etc. I almost feel ashamed to be criticizing (and there are areas to be critical about) PES this year in comparison.

FIFA is just such an abomination. Talk about cheat scripts in PES - it's literally a cheat script every CPU counter attack in FIFA. Talk about end to end?!? It's the same tired old FIFA again this year, with a first touch implementation. But the CPU build up play is deplorable. It really is. Honestly what people see in FIFA is just beyond me. It's just so blatantly rigged, that EVERY CPU attack feels like something blatantly coded. You don't feel like you're trying to contain football players, you feel like you're constantly battling the code to stop the CPU from slaloming up the field. It's so frustrating. And fk me, I heard FIFA was supposed to be 'more sim' this year. The scorelines in almost every game were like 3-1, or 5-3, I even had the most laughable 7-5 against a league one side who scored from almost every attack (legendary).

Keepers are awesome blah blah blah, err no they are not. Strikers (or anybody for that matter as Agger scored a 30 yarder with his right foot lol, a fkin thunderbolt) hit the ball with such ferocity and precision and the keepers are just helpless.

Then we have the defensive system. I'm perspiring just thinking about it. Clunky, dreadful team mate AI. And this is with me having a win rate of say 8/10 games yesterday, can you imagine my opinion if I was losing?!? Fkin laughable! So for fk's sake guys, in comparison PES 2013 is like the Holy Grail of football games. It really is.

I'm back with PES after my horrible sordid one night stand.

Like the old adage of arguing with your attractive girlfriend, then going out, getting smashed, and waking up next to a fat sweaty bird and realising its pointless going out for a Mcdonalds when you have steak in the freezer at home!

This is the first year I haven't bought both FIFA and PES, purely because PES arrived first this year and once I started a ML i Knew id have no time to play FIFA alongside it.
Its meant to be the best FIFA for years and whilst it may look pretty and have all the authenticity and presentation, it simply does not tickle my balls when it comes to actual game play, like CC says, it feels far too rigid and structured, you know what is going to happen. With PES, its far more unpredictable.

In response to the two posts above.

I had my experience with fifa 13. I purchased it on the Tuesday and returned on the Wednesday. I swapped it back for pes 2013. I seem to be going around in circles this year with football games. I enjoy these forums immensely, especially this site for the pes debate, it's great!

But as much as I agree with most of the posts regarding the faults with the game it kinda puts a downer on things when reading about people's unhappiness, and actually it turns me off from playing the bloody game. I'm not moaning, just stating how I feel.

For me, I think my best bet is play and enjoy the game for what it is and stay away from the discussion forums for now.

Yep, the commentary needs an overhaul. Champion, Beglin and the script are all terrible in my opinion. Fingers crossed Konami won't implement a brand new PES engine next year with the same poor gameplay analysis and exposition.

Thanks for those thoughts, you obviously have spent a lot of time and effort on formulating them.

every time i read this topic it makes me feel the same way
maybe i'm easily satisfied (i'm not to be honest), but it seems people here are playing the worst football game ever made
every time a new complaint

Maybe it should be better to just have a topic for complaining about the game and another one to discuss about the game in general.

As it is right now this is not "Pes 2013 discussion thread", but "Pes 2013 complaints thread".

Perhaps that tells you something about the quality of PES 2013?

Didn't we have a complaints thread for PES 2012? I think it was just about the busiest thread on the entire forum wasn't it?

That was probably kinda embarrassing which is no doubt why we dont have one for PES 2013.

My best advice would be to put the user's you don't like on your Ignore List. Afterall, they just spout the same provocative rubbish anyway, so you really ain't missing anything.

I have done just that, and the site is a much happier place to be.

And Morrissey, we know each other don't we ? ;)

Yes, you're right, there was a 'Not happy with PES 2012 thread'.
But, you're wrong in saying that it was the busiest thread on the forum. It wasn't. The main thread still had hundreds more posts than the negative one.
Many from people who enjoyed the game, myself included, until they patched it to death.

I never agreed with having a "happy" PES thread and a "unhappy" one. I'd like to think that we can all discuss the pros and cons of the game in the one thread without it descending into a childish, petty mess.

I'm not happy with PES2013 (mostly because of the modes, or lack of them rather than gameplay) but I totally respect those that enjoy the game. Those loving PES2013 should also acknowledge the game's faults and respect why it may lead to dissatisfaction in others.

As long as both sides can do that then we all should be able to get along without people being put on ignore lists.

Very well said.

I wish Konami could patch in the ability to choose day or night for any game you play. The game looks and plays so much better during the day.

Played a cup last night and it was good but when I played a couple of Juve v Chelsea exhibition games afterwards and with a day setting...zero assists...ahhh the beautiful game returned!
