Why are those so angry/fedup/at the point of topping themselves with the game still persisting? Just asking like.

Bloody good question mate, probably because I NEED a football game in my life. I played since I was 8 and played professionally then semi-pro until recently, so footy and footy games are what I enjoy.
And as shiny and improved as FIFA is, the game play just isn't for me, so my only choice.... PES.

That's why we need a third choice in the market. But that choice has to be made for hardcore football fans. There's no football simulation games at the moment.

I guess we all have different views on exactly what constitutes simulation.

I couldn't disagree more with that statement. And again, I don't even have the time in the working day to even begin to break down why.

Its difficult striking a balance.
The type of people that play PES and FIFA dont necessarily want a true simulation such as the likes and detail of football manager, it would take far too long to get through games and advance your career.
But some nuances of FM style integration would work well, giving a greater sense of immersion.

PES tries the best to simulate real football, by the nurturing of youth players, the stats, needing body stance, position and balance to be all correct when firing off a shot, then the stats kicking in to determine the success rate..... its all very sound in theory, its just that the standard of build quality for PES has decreased over the years to the point where that attempt at simulation falls down all too often.

Its no good PES dictating that you have to be on your stronger foot, have good balance, have high technique stats, not be pressured too much by defenders etc when trying to perform a shot from a tight angle, (which is all very right, and realistic) if the scripting and the glitches and the issues then stop that from happening because balls teleport in un-natural manners and the CPU becomes super-human and zero assist passing suddenly becomes nerfed etc.

You cant really argue the fact that across alot of areas PES nails the authenticity of the game quite wonderfully at times, its just those other times when the shit comes raining down, it undoes all that good work and realism that its capable of.

Just my opinion of course, we all have differing views and experiences with the game.

spot on m8!!
some times player stats matter and sometimes they do not make a jot of difference the program or codeing with in the game decides whats going to happen. how can you go from a first half of playing absolutely blinding football to not being able to string a pass together in the 2nd half, and some passes going in the opposite direction to where your aiming. also he ai in the 1st half performing reasonabley well, then in the 2nd half players taking leave of there senses and just bolting away from the ball or running up the pitch leavng the opposition through on goal. too many times its due to random actions within the game which you have no control over, and some things that happen are totally unrealistic and do not represnt true football.

But we all know that it's made that way because the AI isn't capable enough of offering a fair challenge without some scripts that appear sometimes (i.e. those first-touch build-ups with perfect long balls and too powerful shots, currently ending with a goal, which they do on first minutes of an important game).

It's not that different. I love this game when it shows its true potential, a much better game on the pitch than 2012, with little gameplay details you couldn't do on FIFA, like oriented controls, better recreated inertia or noticeable player individuality.

I meant that both companies became relaxed without competition, and the gameplay didn't improved enough on both games, so there's the need for a third football game which take the gameplay and football representation to the next level. I don't know if that company will be 2K or someone else, but it's really needed, considering the current state of football games.

PES isn't a full simulation of football nor does it pretend to be. It has sim elements but it's far from a realistic experience.

I doubt we will ever see a hardcore football sim. There isn't the market for it.

And this.

The scripting, the glitches, the bad clipping-issues, the boosting, the catch-up-gamedesign, the random stamina/fatigue-system, the conveniently messed up passing, the wrong positioning of CB's... serve two goals:

1. To hide the fact that the CPU-AI is really no challenge for us if not helped along massively. Really, when was the last time you saw the CPU make a play and goal and you thought: "Wow, that was clever, didn't see that coming?" No, most if not all times, the goals happen in a supernatural way.

2. To introduce drama into the game.

The second point is usually ignored by most people: I bet there is a department inside Konami's PES-development-team that specifically thinks about how to induce drama into the game.

I also think that drama is important for a game, a game needs emotions, needs to tell a story. Yes, even a football-game needs that. But the problem is the drama isn't implemented very well. The drama should be interconnected with how we play the game.

We as users should be able to influence the drama. For example when the game's original drama decides that the opponent should have the momentum on his side, be a bit more fit, more concentrated... and my team is less fit and less concentrated, then I as a user should get the opportunity and possibility to do something against it, and if I make the right decisions, like for example changing players, playing a more defensive formation, playing safer, more controlled passes, trying to keep possession... then the game should reward my good choices and good conduct/play and slowly but surely the morale of my team should get higher and it should become more confident...

And regardless of drama the basic physics should stay realistic, ie. the ball's trajectory should remain realistic, clipping-issues should be not occuring...

Like some have mentioned it's now obvious that most of the developers were assigned to work on PES 2014 halfway during the development of PES 2013.

So we got a lacklustre release this year with an evolved gameplay but with still many issues not resolved and with missing modes...

This obviously means that Konami thinks that the current engine is at its limits and couldn't handle huge changes to AI, handling, looks...

It means of course that PES 2014 will be a whole different beast, probably developed from scratch, with many current limitations gone, but for us current PES 2013-customers, it means we have to swallow the bitter pill that we bought a big PES 2012-patch.

That's why we need a third choice in the market. But that choice has to be made for hardcore football fans. There's no football simulation games at the moment.

Because of the way sports games are licence competition and originality is massively stifled

It is not possible for a newcomer to enter the market without a massive outlay of licensing costs and even then FIFA has exclusivity of some leagues.

Look at car racing games for years gran turismo was the highest standard in them. Then along came the Grid series and plenty of other games and GT now looks old fashioned.

In football, this cannot happen and has meant that there is so many people that believe that there is no decent option for a football be it an arcade or simulation game.

I would imagine that a cheapish arcade style game which is based on fun to play could be a massive title and someone would have got closer to perfecting a simulation without faults if the licensing barrier hadn't been there for nearly a decade

I dunno - if PES must go hardcore sim hey'll have to close up shop.

Look at FIFA, COD, GTA and the mess that is online gaming in general very few people want to work hard to learn a game what they want to do is get to play MLO chip throughballs and buy messi and ronaldo as quickly as possible to chip more throughballs before they get number 1 rank and start disconnecting when they are losing.

This my son, is the way of the world.

Look at COD BLOPS 2 released yesterday nothing new, innovative or too hard and you will sell millions.

As for 2K sports I was shocked I bought NBA2K13 and they had a star team consisting of Justin Bieber, Justin fucking Bieber !!
Imagine PES2014 with a team consisting of psy doing fucking gangnam style celebrations.

I want to crawl into a hole and sleep for 100 years and hope when I wake up this world has moved on from this age of lunacy.

But the truth is if you want to be casual like FIFA, you'll have 95% chances of losing that battle.

I didn't mean hardcore as a nearly unplayable game, but respecting football logic as much as possible. Like more realistic refereeing, more complex CPU tactics, stamina system that really affects the tempo on last 30 minutes, analog player speed (walking with the ball...), different ball physics regarding weather, etc. At least, we'll see how PES2014 handles with these issues, but right now, I'm not very confident at it.

I kind of agree with some posts on here last few days. I've been playing on Superstar 1.01. Played a few games on 1.00 initially and thought it excellent, why didn't I play the original and opt for the patch?

Then played Jimmy's suggestions of Pro and zero assists (on 1.00). The scripting was a shambles lol. I mean seriously. It seemed like Pro on 1.00 against Wigan first and then Man Utd was like Superstar x 10. What went initially from a decent paced game when I first tried 1.00 then went crazy skitz for some reason.

PES is all over the place at times. The actual game relies on so many different and diverse factors. It seems like sometimes it genuinely doesn't matter what level you're on in terms of difficulty, once the CPU morphs the game becomes a bit of a mess. Sometimes the game plays at a lovely realistic pace and others it's too fast. Sometimes the CPU passes realistically in terms of mis-placed passes and sometimes it rifles blind passes left right and centre.

And the hunting down pressure on 1.00 on PROFESSIONAL v Man Utd, means that eventually the player is forced to give in and ditch manual because the CPU doesn't reciprocate the manual nature of the game.

I'm tempted to try FIFA out. Although I'm 100% sure that say PES, 1.01, Superstar, 1 bar assist will be ten times better than any of FIFA's slider settings.

the CPU doesn't reciprocate the manual nature of the game.

That's a really good point and something I've been noticing more and more playing ML. There's a fantastic range to the passing on zero but it's kind of jarring to then find the CPU slamming ping pong passes around the pitch. And in ML, it does this a lot.

A little "Did you know?"

The definition of the word word "pes" in the dictionary is;

"noun (plural pedes /ˈpɛdeɪz, ˈpɛdiːz/)
technical
the human foot, or the corresponding terminal segment of the hindlimb of a vertebrate animal."

Maybe the abbreviation wasn't accidental, PES means foot!

Guys - I hope this isn't considered as spam but I wanted some support for my friend's independent feature film. It's called Total Football and I've personally spent a lot of hours helping him with colour grading/sound mixing etc...and I even had a small role.

The mods can delete this if it's not appropriate but we'd love some followers on Twitter and Facebook etc. The trailer is up at TF Trailer Maeder on Vimeo

The Twitter account is @Football_Movie and the Facebook page is www.facebook.com/totalfootballthemovie

Again, sorry if this is not the right place but I didn't want to create a new thread. Would love some support and feedback. It's been a LOT of hard work and pain lol.

Huge Patch coming in December which will fix many issues (including ML Boots!):

The new patch due in early December 2012
The new patch features:

1) Fixes to the below issues. We would like to apologise for all inconveniences caused.

Master League Online
* The transfer fee and contract fee shown when signing a player is different to the one shown in the breakdown of such costs.
* Changes to the squad and the team funds were not reflect immediately when signing/releasing players or receiving gate receipts from matches played.

Master League
* Sometimes the game would freeze when items obtained in Master League Online were used.

Performance Training
* It was impossible to complete the “Long-pass” training when Pass Assistance level was set to either [0] or [1].
* It was impossible to complete the “Manual-pass” training when the cursor was set to “fixed” when using Personal Data other than “no.1″.

Edit
* Sometimes the game would freeze when importing PES 2012 data. This applies to cases where implementing the data would result in players switching to wearing boots which were issued in PES 2012 Data Pack 3.

Information
* When a new Data Pack was implemented, users were forced to restart their hardware as a message informing them of non-matching Data Pack versions would be displayed rendering some game features such as Master League Online, Competition and the Widget inaccessible.

2) The below additions due to customer requests:

General
* Users can now choose to enable or disable the Auto Save feature in game modes including Master League and Become a Legend by selecting [System] then [Auto Save] in order.

Football Life
* Players will wear boots which are unique to them in both Master League and Become a Legend. Any editing done to player’s boot settings will also be reflected. However, please note that this only applies to save data created after the implementation of this patch file.
* Changes have been made to how teamwork levels between players increase.

3) General improvements to other modes to improve overall gaming experience.

The details of Patch 1.02 are as listed above.

In addition to these issues, we are also aware of the below.
the exact causes are currently under investigation:

Online

1) Customers can be paired with users they added to the Match Block List.
2) Sometimes, the bonus prize money earned after a Special match can be shown as being 0.
3) In Inter-Community Matches, customers are sometimes unable to substitute COM controlled players.
4) If you play a 2 vs 2 match in Ranking match, but then try to play Master league Online and any other one player online matches without deleting the guest user, no matchmaking will take place.

Master League Online

5) After matches, customers may be returned back to the Online Main menu. An error message stating that an unexpected problem in communications with the PES 2013 server is then displayed.

For these issues, any updates will be posted on this site.
We can also report that the below issues were also fixed during maintenance on 13/11/2012

6) Courtesy level does not recover despite completing matches in the correct manner.
7) Special match bonuses could be earned in other types of matches.

The phrase "polishing a turd" springs to mind.

Very true, the refereeing in PES is abysmal, it works both ways though. 3 times in the last week the CPU has played one of its infamous through balls and their CF was one-on-one with my GK, using my last defender i slide tackled the CF from behind, waist height, it was more assault than a tackle, and every time it was either a Free Kick or Penalty BUT, i only ever got given a yellow card.

There couldnt be a more prime example of a professional foul or a red card but none are given. yet Red cards are given for nothing tackles on the half way line.

LOL I find this all the time, it's maddening.

In fact, just last night I saw something even worse. It was in the last few minutes, just outside my own box. My CB played a square pass to my other CB, who was then in full control of the ball. I was just about to pass to my full back while pretty much dribbling at walking pace, so under total control of it, when the CPU sprinted up from behind and scythed me down from behind. Got nowhere near the ball, the whistle blew, frankly I expected a red card for the CPU player. No card appears, screen fades out, I then realise the ref has somehow awarded the CPU the free kick!

Up steps the CPU player, and plants it into my top corner. What. The. F***.

Oh and I KNEW the long pass thing in training mode was a bug! Fuckers had me trying that long pass on zero about 40 times.

Also, if ML has to be restarted for the teamwork stats to work correctly then screw this game. I've sunk weeks into my ML already without having to start from scratch.

LOL, you always seem to experience the worst glitches, thankfully that one never happened to me.

Haha yeah seems to be the case. Thankfully though that glitch, amazing though it was, didn't cost me the game. I managed to get back up the field and score a quick goal to win it 2-1, but I gotta admit, my hand was wavering over the 'off' button for a short while!
