PES 2013 Discussion Thread

I'm sorry, but playing with ML defaults on Superstar is always going to cause tears in my book.

It's not only with ML defaults or on Superstar. Today i played a game on professional with Bayern away against Leverkusen. I have won the first 5 games of the season and suddenly 7! of my starters are out of form (purple arrow).

I started the game and i was 0-3 down after 23 mins. Nothing i couldn't do against it. One goal came by a corner, one by a deflection after a harmless shot and one by a stupid error from Manuel Neuer. He jumped right under a cross with no striker all around him. At halftime it was 0-4 because of a freekick, of course a freekick (it wasn't even a foul).

Sometimes you're just a spectator in this game. Your skills doesn't matter because the story of the game is already written right before the whistle goes.

They told us about freedom but this game is not free. It's still scripted even on lower difficult settings. And it is bad scripting, lazy scripting. It is nothing where you would say "Wow, that was a nice goal from them". Most of the time you say "god, what is my player doing or what the hell is the ref doing or what the fuck is my teammate doing?". It's bad scripting.

As long as you have the ball the game is great. But as soon as you loose the ball it is terrible.

SUUUUUPERTALK

in ML, for night games, and also champ league, gameplay becomes so stupid? Slow, heavy, players collide, ball extremely light, slow response ...

try several games day, and then at night, see differences

konami this stupid decision, implemented from PES2011

this is a personal thought, night games are really shit, in ML

EXHIBITION MODE IS OTHER WORLD (in gameplay)

This is by far and away my biggest problem with the game and I have been going on about it for years

I used to spend ages changing the settings on my tv to get it to look decent on night games and change all of the stadiums that teams were set to , to the best pitches. But as they hard code teams to their stadium if the stadium is in the game, you can only do this so far

In the master league 5/6 of the games are at night and it looks and plays so much worse than day games. That means most of the game is played with it running shit and looking nothing like it can

Exhibition mode in a handful of stadiums looks amazing and is brilliant to play. I would love to sit down with someone from konami and get them to explain why the master league plays worse than exhibition mode and to get them to put in an option to unlock the ability to set time and stadium for master league games.

It's always next year since 5 years now.

Not for me it hasn't. They haven't been flawless, obviously, but I've been happy with PES 2009-2013 and have gained a lot of enjoyment out of them. I can note specific gameplay developments in each game that have pushed football games forward, having also made their way into its competitor too; so it must be doing something right, in amidst all the vitriol. Without being blind to the flaws, you can still have a glass half full approach to the series and appreciate the positives.

this game isnt perfect but its still the best football I have ever played, its stunning and the more I play and learn the dynamics of the game the more I enjoy it.

Playing a Euro Cup with France while I wait for v.3 Daymos OF and having a blast. Played some incredible games last night.

Jimmy do you play on Top Player? I've read that Suuuuuupertalk plays on Superstar - surely thats why he isnt enjoying it? That difficulty is impossible.

I'm playing on Professional with Zero Passing Assistance, I feel in single or 2-player, it's more than enough of a challenge. Especially with a lesser team like Middlesbrough. :)

Alot of what everyone has mentioned here ive been saying since release, PES13 is barely more than PES12.5 and should have been a DLC or decent patch, not a whole new game, far too many basic issues still exist with the game.

Its so blatantly evident that Konami gave PES13 to their work experience kids to play about with whilst all the senior devs are fiddling away with the new engine ready for next year.#

PES13 can play a fantastic game of football, it really can, but the overall package is an absolute shoddy mess.
Far too many inconsistencies, such as the unrealistic GF/GA for CPU, broken form/stamina system, unrealistic scheduling, the on-rails feel, need for super cancel etc etc.
Its all been there since last year and no apparent effort to fix any of it, just more mess added such as the GF/GA thing and key modes taken out.
Player ID - arguable Konami's biggest buzz word and selling point this year, isnt even noticeable on the most part.

thanks Jimmy

I plan on starting a ML with Newcastle United.

I play on Top Player and do find it difficult, maybe I should put it down to Pro?

I play with assists on, I am rubbish with no assists!

Couldnt disagree more. i hated PES 2012 with a passion, it was terrible.

this game plays beautiful football. I agree that the whole package has its faults though but its the first time I've gone back to a PES game since the heady days of PES 5.

Personally I think that 'Professional' is the way this is meant to be played. In terms of pace, space and flow, the time you get on the ball, and the moderate AI pressure (which, for the most part, is reserved to their own half) it most closely replicates what we see on the TV every weekend imo. 'Pro' is also the level for me, where I feel player ID to actually make a difference and where I have enough space to try out things (like dribblings) without being outmuscled or shoved by the AI in a split second.

On the above levels the game starts to become a unnerving, repetitive high-octane script-fest and a constant battle against an über-AI with its ridiculous agility, speed and precision advantage, its god-like dribbling skills, and its nigh on perfect passing accuracy.

Granted, using a top team with all players maxed out it can become a tad boring and being on my second ML season with Bayern, I wish there was another level between 'Pro' and 'Top Player', but for me it's the best balance between challenge, freedom, fun and realism and most of all (for the most part) free of Konami's cheap scripting antics. And there is still room to scale it in picking a lesser team or turning passing assistance down to 0, for example.

I've always played Top Player bar the last couple of years. A lot of that is down to the better balance in the gameplay, and also, with Zero Assistance, it makes the game much harder anyway. It's a nice balance all-round for me.

Im currently on zero assists and Professional - its far from easy, its more than enough of a challenge.
Sometimes the game can feel scrappy on zero assists and i do question the nerfing by CPU when all of a sudden my best player is misplacing 5 yard passes in the final third, but once you've played zero, its hard to go back, the element of freedom is there and you miss it too much.

I've been playing on zero pretty much since it came out, anything else now feels bizarrely automated and crazy fast.

@Calcio, it's not that I win all the time on Professional or Top Player, but I virtually never lose on these settings against the CPU. Fine if I were to be playing a mini tournament or friendlies but it just makes ML boring.

I've so far seen far less of the scripting nonsense since I dramatically improved my ML team on Superstar though. This was great, because with the ML default players it accentuates and highlights just how blatant the game can be in making you lose, and I was just about ready to put this game up for sale. With ML defaults though you really can see the CPU intervening in both the way the ball, players and even your own control over players behave in order to 'simulate', for lack of a better word, the ML defaults being bad players.

It's funny that with awful players in my team I had atrocious examples galore of conceding goals thanks to shitty cusor switching, for example. Improve the side, or play an exhibition match with a half decent team again and I never see any cursor switching issues, certainly none that frequently lead to conceding goals.

I dunno if this is deliberate by Konami and is done to make you lose because the game thinks that with 50-rated players, you should be losing, or whether there's just something a bit broken in the game, but it's certainly there. Thankfully I've got rid of a ton of ML defaults in my ML now, and I'm never playing this game with them again.

This, this, this and this. Well said, agree with every single word of that.

And LT, what you say about the defaults on Superstar is exactly what I was getting at. Simulating a bad player/team is a very hard thing to do organically, hence the reason these bad 'things' happen. It is what it is. It's like I said before, if you choose to play with fire, then you gotta expect to get burned now and again.

LTFC aka Supertalk have you tried NOT playing the AI cpu and playing real people? I find it better and more challenging.

I have not tried playing this version Vs the cpu but i used to play with Northern Ireland or Iran Vs Brazil on other versions to try improve my game and i soon found myself beating these teams 1 or 2 nil everygame.

No1 seems to like MLO but i have been playing it a lot, i still come up against superstar teams but i take great pride when i do beat them and they dont disconnect...

I love this game. Have I already told you guys that?? lol

I am France opponent Croatia. 2nd group match. I go 1-0 down within 10 minutes (I am playing top player) and using 4-3-3 formation. I think "I need more firepower" so I switch to a 4-2-2-2 formation, take a winger off and add another striker.

BOOM the game changes, I come back and steal a scrappy goal before HT to make it 1-1.

I then come out 2nd half, dominate and hit another 2 past them. SUPER SUB scores a hat trick! It felt so good.

For those who didn't know, push your stick down inside the crossing zone will make your crosser aim to the near post, while pushing the stick forward or upward will aim for the far post. If you do nothing with the stick, the ball will be aimed at the center. High chance your cross will end up to the GK or overhit if you aim for the far post.

Try combine all of this with double / triple tap, R1 or R2 for more variations.

Nope, I know there are PES leagues etc for people who play properly but the ML online thing doesn't interest me because playing randoms is, year after year, a terrible gaming experience. I remember playing one game online in PES2012, won 3-2, but the game was pretty much ruined by the other guy spamming through balls and hammering down the wing. Every exploit that the game can muster, you can guarantee you'll find it in spades online - not just in PES, but FIFA too.

Where football is concerned I don't think it's possible to design it properly for offline and translate that to online properly. In an ideal world there would be two completely different versions of the game, one offline, one online.

Came very close to snapping the PES disc in half and posting back to konami in a jiffy bag with a request for a refund. This game really is a shambles alot of the time.

Lost 3-0 to Derby and in that one match I witness so much shambolic fuckery it was untrue,.
First of all the keeper rushed out to grab a through ball, the ball was still 2 yards outside the area when he got to it, he slid on his belly outside the box and grabbed the ball, handball surely??? then the keeper actually reverse slides/glides back inside the box and stops the ball on the line. No free kick nothing, like it never happened.
5 mins later, i attempt a fast paced midfield pass, the ball intercepted by a CPU midfielder, who reacts with the speed of a super-human, the ball bouncing up of his foot, seemingly sticking to his forearm, then moving sideways in mid-air and falling to his foot in perfect position for an immediate through ball for a goal.
Then as Im trying to force my way back into the game at 3-0 down, I work the ball to the edge of the area and spot my LMF make a run behind the defender, I play the bass through the gap for the LMF to run on to, using 0 assist passing, and the CPU ‘nerfs’ the pass to go towards its own defender when i never aimed that direction, the defender then again reacts instantly, sticks out a leg, and instantly traps the ball ready to launch a counter attack. Not only that, slow motion replays show the ball actually travelled PAST the defenders foot, then stopped mid-air, BEHIND his outstretched foot, and teleported back in front of his foot and then fell to the ground.

Its absolute shit like this that makes this game a total joke. And YES I have all of the aforementioned fuckery recorded on video as evidence.

and to boot with 2 games left to play of the season, the Top team, and soon to be crowned D2 champions, Reading have scored 36 goals…… in 32 games!!!!!!!! ridiculously low CPU scorelines across the board.
Pathetic!!!!!

My feeling right now too Jimmy.
You know I love PES and have defended it to the hilt in previous years, and dont just come on here to whine, i always try and find the positives, but seriously, and I know you have an undying Love for PES and don't see much of the bad in it, but you just cant excuse actual glitches and shambolism like i've mentioned, its all there, in video evidence, im not over-reacting.

Im going to give season 5 one last try, with the patch removed and see how i get on, just really not feeling the game at the moment mate.

It genuinely would really piss me off if I had actually experienced something like that, as it is, quite frankly, lazy and inexcusable. Thankfully, I've not had the misfortune to see any of that type of stuff. As of yet.

I thought you were putting it back 1.00 last night ?

I really want to see those vids, not that I question them or anything. Last night I had nicked the ball of a forward with my last defender, granted I was perhaps a tad careless not to clear it right away but I was trying to turn a bit to clear it to the side. Suddenly the forward tackles the ball out of my feet and straight into my goal without the keeper, oblivious as I was, even trying to go for it. Possible, I suppose, but looked so wrong.

I had 2 games left of the current season mate so wanted to get them done before removing the patch, start a new fresh season on 1.00.

Isslander - i'll upload the vids when i get chance

I was thinking if this happens because of CPU teams wearing black boots too. Just a suggestion, I'll probably be wrong.
