PES 2013 Discussion Thread

The patch is ruining the game for me too. I was enjoying a BAL career but since the patch the realism has disappeared: poor teams play like Barcelona and are extremely hard to get a result against with noticeable boosting of all stats. While the real elite teams are comparatively a walk over to the degree that you win most games where you are the underdog and struggle to draw those you should be winning. I almost feel like changing the difficulty to Pro for weaker teams and Superstar for stronger ones to regain some sort of balance(I'm on top player now).

I'm just baffled.

Absolutely loving this game with the following settings:ROCK:

Resolution: 480p
Gamespeed: 0
Difficulty: Professional
Camera: Pitchside
Shooting: Manual
Pass assistance. 0 bars

Sorry to repost:

So I'm in my second year of ML with Newcastle and I've made some nice transfers and such. Can I go back to the out-of-the-box game and keep my ML progress. I'm sick of the patch. Step by step instructions for this would be greatly appreciated. I am on PS3.

So is player ID solely animations(running, shooting)? Player cards were in previous versions so that can't be it unless they made the cards more powerful this year.

I don't have it on PS3 but as far as I'm aware you can go into the game data utility from your PS3 menus, select PES and you should find the update file in there. Then, obviously if you're online, choose 'no' when next prompted by the game to re-download. For more specific info just google it, there will be plenty of tutorials on how to remove patches. It's an easy process, just can't remember off-hand :)

It's a little worse to do on the xbox 360, you have to delete all system cache which unfortunately deletes all patches from all games saved, but hey, I can re-download them :)

Oh and to my knowledge deleting the patch will have absolutely no effect to your saved game. You should be able to carry on your ML no matter what version of the game you're running.

Once I've finally got this data pack I'm definitely removing the patch, the game plays horrible with it, whereas before installing it I thought this was the best football game I'd ever played. Plus, as a nice Brucie bonus, I won't have that stupid inactive widget sitting pointlessly on my screen the whole time. Win win!

I don't think you can if you remove a Data-Pack, but the patch should be fine.

I'm just trying the differences with and without patch, on Pro and Top Player. Same teams, Espanyol v Zaragoza. I must admit, the first two games with the patch played better for me on Top Player. Also, having my finger constantly over R2 is working wonders. Using it for control with first touch and turning, then holding R2 with X for short, controlled quick passing is working brilliantly. When playing on Zero Assistance, using R2 and X for those quick interchanging passes is HUGE, it's made it so much more fluid.

Those playing with Zero, trying stringing four to five quick passes together with just X then with R2 and X, the difference is massive. The passing is slower, pace-wise, due to the nature of the control, but with that comes much increased accuracy and consistency. Better passers really shine with this method, whilst lesser passers, such as defenders are affording themselves a higher percentage on the passing accuracy front.

Loving the cynical tackles you can break up at with, the little shoves, trips and alike.

X then R1 is a lovely defending tactic that is working better the Double X.

And Alan, that's interesting, keep us posted.

Anybody here having issues with WENB patch 2 for PS3? I installed it, emblems are there, Bundesliga, Championship, etc are there. But when it comes to team kits, there are loads of them missing. Arsenal and most of the Premier League, and some National Teams like Brasil and Argentina...
Anyone got a similar issue?

Anyway, the games against CPU are a carbon copy of PES 2012. I didn't pay for that shit. I think I'll revert the motherfucker all the way back to default, uninstall everything Konami did post-release, and then download one of those pre-patch update OFs, like Paul's. And then let's see how the CPU will play on Top Player.
If I see the same ghosting and shit, I'll go back all the way to PES 2011!

Fed up with Konami, man. For the 2nd consecutive time I've been very disappointed now. Pisstakers!

Aren't you finding the COM to be more direct in the way they attack, like they're bombing forward on the counter all the time?

When you go to copy them over and go to select multiple, wait until the file counter has reached about 600+ and then select copy. IF you dont it will only select whats ready when selecting all.

Get off Top Player for a while Suuuuuupertalk. I've gone back to Professional and it's been better.

I tell you what - you have to get your tactics spot on in this game and then defend with absolute focus. I started a Champion's League as Juventus on Professional, 15 min matches. First game was against Montpellier. As they were playing at home, they came right at me, playing a 4-3-3 and always had guys supporting from midfield.

Playing the way I normally play and I saw they had outpossessed me 53-47 in the first half and were leading 1-0. I pushed my wide midfielders further forward in the 2nd half and brought on some fresh legs and I started controlling a lot more of the midfield. Equalised but then copped another goal late on. Possession finished 50-50 and shots almost even.

Next game I copped a hammering of about 5-0 from memory. Just didn't get my setup right and gave the strikers too much space on the edge of the box. Damn, they were lethal! lol. But in that game I had moved to 1 bar assistance from my usual 0 bar. The passing felt a lot zippier I have to admit.

One question I have though, when you adjust the attacking/defensive mentality and the meter goes up or down, does it effectively just push your players further up the pitch? I am wondering whether the AI plays a lot of balls in behind you if you have that setting too high.

Probably better to leave that set to a conservatively defensive setting but adjust the positions on the game plan screen for your strikers and midfielders to get further forward along with the tactic sliders on more attacking settings but still leaving your defensive line relatively deep?

I'll definetly drop the dificulty level to Professinal, enough with the cheating on Top Player. In CL, after the group stage the cheating increase ridiculously, CPU start getting some insane ccounter attacks with just two passes, CPU AI even makes 180 passes and the ball pass through my whole defence, my players become unable to intercept a ball 2 yards from them, actually they even get out of the way. One of my players out of my control concede a foul and then as always the CPU scores from the free kick.

I gotta agree with everyone else. Before 1.01 I got strong odors of shit from this game, but now every time i play i feel like I've jumped with both feet into the barrel of steaming shite that Konami hid behind gimmicks like "Player ID".

At least before the CPU had the common decency to wait until the ML to blatantly cheat. Now its overtly warping, ghosting, rubberbanding its way through every game.
I mean for fucks sake I just conceded another one of those goals where the keeper comes out to the bloody half line (unbidden) and gets embarrassed.

Don't get me started with the BAL. For yet another year I'm playing with my club's 3rd string 'special' team, chock full of lackwits and dullards!

I'm following in suuuuuuuuupertalk (and others) footsteps and rolling the fuck back to 1.0, where even though I can still smell the shit, it's hidden under a bed of unwatered roses.

AI always scores from freekicks! Damn!

CPU has scored only 1 FK against me since demo to launch to now.. no joke

Just extend the wall and use (jump wall with shot) when you think it's necassary and move the gk.. problem solved.. if it still goes in.. it was meant to go in no matter what

I add players to the wall and try jumping as well. They score some but not every time. And it's no more than players score in real life. Free kicks from just outside the box should be hitting the target with decent players. I'd say the conversion rate is about right.

Would be nice if they let you move the wall like you can on FIFA. Let's blame the current engine limitations...but going forward there's no excuses with a new engine. I hope to see PES 2014 have camera options among other things. Come on Konami!

If you want to play the engine or for personal bragging rights which nobody else gives a crap about anyways, then playing on Top Player or Superstar is my personal recommendation.

But anyhoo.. I don't know if it's just me, but i'm seeing a lot of good improvements in the 1.01 patch.

-Better hitboxes on the players, less clipping between players/ball. Basically more fluid/tight.
-More 50/50 loose balls. More awareness by human AI team mates on loose balls.
-Better player switching in def/off (also on 2v2). Pass recipient/switching also a lot better, as in less jump over the ball when it's intended for that particular player (Arguable maybe? But it is better in my experience)
-Slower turning speeds while sprint on/off the ball, this is very noticable, especially with my superstar Madrid (on drugs)! Try sprinting in a direction on/off the ball and change your course drastically (humanly impossible to exaggerate, for ex 180 turn) and you will see much more slowdown/inertia which is good! (This one is NOT arguable imo, it's too obvious with even my fast paced players)
-No more human AI defenders tracking back too deep, better defensive lines and offside traps. DF/MF lines much more compact and organized by/vs good team CPU.
-Slide tackles with cross button seem improved on defensive players. More towards the ball or the way it's going instead of hacking down the player.
-Crossing is better as in much more considerate per context, headers/header passes are easier to time and place.
-Players usually trap/pass/cross with stronger leg much more than 1.00. I already liked the balance in this, but now it seems a bit more pronounced. (Might be arguable, but i watch this shit like a mofo, sometimes i might watch more replays of just traps by my players as opposed to the goals i score)
-Off-the-Ball manual control seems improved too, but i'm not sure if it's my team (or id/player wise) or that it's touched by Konami.. If i do manual player run for Benzema when he's practically offside, he will take a different route or just wait till he can run into space etc. It's a tad more adaptable it seems, not always but again.. not sure..

-Slightly more fouls, less clean play and more error/random passing by CPU while still being, albeit not over the top, clinical in front of goal. Random buildup play by AI teams, not cheesy or too direct for my taste.

Guess i'm the only that's actually happy with this patch!

My settings are professional, -1 speed, 10min games (0 speed and 15min is roughly the same speed/flow) with 0 passing, with only auto clearance 'on' to get rid of the occasional switching/clearing annoyances in my own box. I also play with translucent radar and without passing bars in-game which makes the game 10x more better. Basically all i want to see is a cursor over the player i move :P

But yeah you should just experiment what works best for you.

Anyone.. thoughts? I've read a bunch of articles bashing the patch.. well ok i guess, but are there folks out there that are having similar observations / experiences?

Yes
Check this out, have the ball with a DMF or CB on your own half, and do attack balance on orange/red and you will see a bunch of players push forward more drastically.

It's best to (FIND!) have a good balance between formation/players/sliders, and adjust it accordingly per opposing team (human or AI)

Like for ex, if you feel that when you're ingame your players are pressing too high, try playing on green defensive balance and just watch how your players move.. if it sucks or doesn't seem to make a difference it's clashing with your players/tactics. The game is quite advanced in that regard.. but you won't spot it or notice strengths/weaknesses unless you experiment with it. Even the CPU uses different attack-defence levels

Sometimes i play on 8 defensive line (deep), but i feel like i don't have momentum, so if i leave too much space in midfield or in the back i might put it too green.
Different scenario, If my default formation is quite offensive but it doesn't seem to be offensive in practice i might go attack lvl orange to have my players go in more deep.

Then there's also that the team itself just sits back/moves up depending on the color or like i said when you want it for like a sudden mixup you can go orange have your players move forward then put it back to default when you lose the ball.. etc

I'm enjoying the game with the patch. But I have noticed in my last two games (pool v Leverkusen and Zent v Chelsea) that I went 2 up at half time but lost 3-2.
The third goal in both games was unstoppable. Everything I tried didn't work. In the last minute Mata picked up the ball on the edge of his box and ran unchallenged into my box to get a shot off. I couldn't stop him. Don't know if that was my poor positioning or AI cheating.

Hard to know but I did notice that I copped two goals last night because I left the forward with acres of space on the edge of the box. He picked his spot and smashed it home, which would in fact happen in a real game. No complaints with that. How a striker can get to the edge of the box sometimes can be a bit funny on the higher levels though...

Throw ins bug me. The need to do what Fifa have and allow the quick throw in to be taken.
If you counter attack and get a throw in then the game pauses and the other team get all their men back and yours are marked. So annoying.

But still for me, PES13 is the best offline game for years but Fifa is the much better game online against mates.

Hey, you should ask Konami if they want to use your list as patch notes. I doubt that they would, but it's worth a shot. As ever with these patches, I see no gameplay changes whatsoever. Contrary to what is generally believed, Konami do not have a history of making wholesale gameplay changes. What we do have a history of is the PES forums assuming that they have, and then gradually transforming that assumption into cast-iron belief, as has happened yet again now. But don't let me get in the way of your ad hoc consensus ;)

Strange how everyone is having different responses from the game.

Basically for me it comes down to this - before the patch I was enjoying the games but they started to feel a little too formulaic. On Superstar level rubbish sides still felt overpowered and there were always hints of CPU scripting in certain games, like Champions League and cup games. If the game had stayed like this I would have played the game, and still liked it, but it started to become an occasional thing. The more I delved deeper into ML the more it started to feel like PES 2012, rigidity wise.

Roll on 1.01. The games are just insane. I feel like PES has suddenly become like FIFA in terms of freedom in the sense that the rails seem diminished, BUT, the core mechanics of PES remain like realistic body movements and players feeling like their stats. Zero assists passing is definitely an improvement on 1.01. It feels easier in places because it is even more contextually correct I believe. Balls are rebounding everywhere. Players no longer feel like they have the ball on a string and first touches (and indeed other touches) feel heavy with less skilled players.

Passing is better. Shooting is better. I feel I am hitting more low swerving drives after 1.01. CPU possession stats - this is an interesting one. For all those saying that the CPU plays too direct now the CPU for the first time in ages no has in or around what I have in terms of possession most games. Indeed I even saw a 52% to the Arsenal yesterday; which is like the holy grail in PES!

CPU cheating feels less. Yesterday I played Chelsea, 15 minutes, Superstar, Zero Assists, went one nil up, defended some pressure, got a late second goal. I restricted them to ONE, yes ONE, shot on goal all game. I set up as 4-5-1 or a variation thereof and looked to play a high intensity, high pressure game against them giving every player no time on the ball BUT not jumping in, just holding and containing.

I don't see magical unrealistic comebacks; I trounced Cluj 5-0 in the CL, this never would have happened before the patch.

Is the game faster? Maybe. It certainly feels more dynamic. I'm lost in the game again now, just playing off pure impulse and adrenaline helped as well by my closer cam of Long. It really is immersing me now as on my 50 inch I can concentrate on the short game more and get more out of the individual battles all over the pitch. Because I obviously see more detail I am picking up on tons more things which I never noticed, like the off the ball work rate of Gerrard, the positional discipline and enforcer tag of Lucas etc.

It doesn't feel like any modern iteration of PES now, it feels like PES 5/6 but with total freedom. It#s about the best way I can describe it.

I'm loving it so much at the moment that I am still playing with one of the original OF files which didn't have Championship teams and didn't have all the transfers done - but I seriously don't care. I don't think I can restart a ML campaign now. I was 8th first season, and now I'm third gunning for the top two.

I'm loving it as well, but crucially I'm loving what I perceive to be the same game that came out of the box. 1.00 and 1.01 are not different.

Look at all the changes that are claimed for 1.01 on this one page of the thread alone. Does anybody seriously think that 1.01 did all that?

The last time Konami implemented gameplay changes in a patch was in, I think, PES2012's 1.03 and – here's the rub – they explicitly referenced it in the patchnotes. Goalkeepers and long-range shooting on that occasion. They weren't vague. They came out and said it.

This time, in PES2013 1.01, they have said nothing more than 'changes to gameplay experience across various modes'. That part saying 'to various modes' is pretty significant, because if the changes are to PES2013 gameplay per se, saying 'to various modes' is redundant. To my Japanglish-attuned ear it could mean nothing more than 'here, have an Online widget to slap across your screen'. The PES team at Konami must laugh their heads off every time they push out a boots and balls and menus update, as this one was IMO.

Don't know about everyone, but looks like I'm still liking Superstar more than Top Player.

Btw Regular isn't bad, if people are finding both Pro and Top to be bad then try it.

Aren't you finding the COM to be more direct in the way they attack, like they're bombing forward on the counter all the time?

I didn't to be honest. I played Top Player back-to-back, with the same teams, patch and pre-patch and didn't really feel any differences over the 15 minute matches.

In saying that, I'm a firm believer in the old classic PES statement of 'no game is ever the same'. Even with same teams, same difficulty, same settings. The way games pan out effect how the CPU will play, so if I concede early they will generally adopt a different approach to if I score first. So it's very hard to see the same results twice, and nigh impossible to see the very same play patterns.

In saying all that, I did get a 70%-30% Possession advantage in a Professional level game post-patch. I've never seen it that high before in my favour on PES 13. But again, I'm not suggesting that was all down to the patch, just a different day, different match.

I'm more with Mr Houchen on this one, as I feel tactics and situations will dictate the different patterns of play, as opposed to 'game-play' changes via patches.

Edit - I also found Top Player to have the obvious bias here and there with rebounds etc. And the ghosting that people mention is definitely there, but I feel that can be reduced by being a little stronger in the tackle. I'm still undecided on what difficulty level to start my ML on tonight (after finally sorting the WENB V3 OF file out very late last night, due to the Sony Network being offline and unable to download Data-Pack 2.)

Also, for those with a PS3, seriously consider getting the new Chuckbass Chantpack from WENB for PES 2013. It truly is brilliant the way he has edited the chants together in melody packs. Very authentic, perfect sound levels, with excellent fading. It's hands-down the best Chantpack I have ever heard, and by a long, long way.

Why do konami always go against their own design ideas. They advertised freedom yet it has gotten less free with each demo version, They talked hugely about the high lines yet with each demo iteration the CPU has fallen deeper and deeper, They advertised sim like gameplay and flow yet they have increased the speed of the game to +2 with every version, They advertised player ID yet every player makes perfect tackles and dribble like messi . Why konami Why ?

So I'm in my second year of ML with Newcastle and I've made some nice transfers and such. Can I go back to the out-of-the-box game and keep my ML progress. I'm sick of the patch. Step by step instructions for this would be greatly appreciated. I am on PS3.

All you have to do is simply to delete the patch from gaming data on your PS3 (not the game data installed but only the patch -a small file -), so the game rolls back to 1.00 version with DLC 2.0.

I have done it and works perfectly with updated option file.

P.s.
Pay attention: after rolling back to version 1.00 you cannot connect the PS3 to internet because the game updates automatically itself

I think I am only person in the world loving this game :D

Game modes suck...but the ML is actually pretty good after trying it out for first time. The boots dont worry me too much.

Nope I am loving the game as well. I havent started any ml league/cups modes just yet as I was waiting for good OF - now have one but they releasing updates in the next few days. Then Im good to go.

Best PES since PES5/6
