PES 2013 Discussion Thread

Nope I am loving the game as well. I havent started any ml league/cups modes just yet as I was waiting for good OF - now have one but they releasing updates in the next few days. Then Im good to go.

Best PES since PES5/6

Add me to the Love Club. ;)

Also, does anyone who has the WENB OF V3 know exactly how to add the Championship emblems ? I spotted and additional link to different Club Emblems, so I'll download that tonight. I just wasn't 100% with regards which Emblems they would replace or if indeed we have the option to choose ? I'm happy to lose the Portuguese or even German badges if I have to.

I love the game too, prior to the patch I'd been spouting off constantly about it being the best PES ever made (gameplay-wise at any rate!) so I anticipate hat once said patch is duly cast into the ether then I'll be one happy bunny once more.

That said, I'll give the patch one last try before removing.

Read and applied from Wenb forums:

"Copy the emblems to your PS3

Start PES and enter edit mode

Select Teams an find the Championship

Select your first team then select Emblem

Select Import Data

Find the Emblem you want and upload it to PES

Now choose the emblem you want to overwrite

It will save

Don't forget to default the team who's emblem you've just gone over, otherwise they will have the same one!"

I am on v1.0 as I have no internet at home as I have just moved and I love it.

The pace on +1 on superstar in my oppinion is excellent and I love the natural way players turn and wrong footing defenders and the R2 controlling of chest high passes.

The things I am not that keen on is amount of times the com team gets put through that is impossible to stop and how most forwards are on vertual 0 or stamina by the 70 minute mark. I also rarely connect properly with headers on crosses, especially corners and the com is too accurate with free kicks.

Graphically I am not that keen on is the washed out look of night games and poor ad-boards take quite a bit away from the look of the game. I know they have received money of Zavi so they wont let you import your own, but if you play a game at the stadium on light (the real one) you can see how good it would look with decent boards.

what difficulty is best with this new patch?

When i first started playing (before the patch) i had a few games on professional and it seemed a bit... easy. so as soon as i got the patch i ramped it up to top player. now the first one or two games were great but the AI got gradually more and more cheaty to the point where i've lost 5 ML games in a row that i could dispute.

don't really want to cop out and go back to professional if i'm winning all the time, but can;t stand top player. what's superstar like this year?, thoughts appreciated

Don't know about everyone, but looks like I'm still liking Superstar more than Top Player.

Btw Regular isn't bad, if people are finding both Pro and Top to be bad then try it.

Don't know if is just me, but after patch i feel Top Player, a little more easy or permissive

Is like you can have more the ball and more time, perfect timing imo, to thinks next play to do. Now the matches possession are 60-50%. for CPU. Before patch it was like 70-80% CPU.

after spending so much time with FIFA for many years (since PES 5) its good to be back home..this game is so organic and flows perfectly for me.

I tried FIFA 13 again in HMV at the weekend, had a few matches against some kid in there. The game was a hectic, arcade slog fest...I dont know how I stuck it so long to be honest.

The king is back. Just need better game modes in PES 14 and we've got a winner.

Cheers buddy, much appreciated. :TU:

Your PS3 isn't the best at Maths..... :CONFUSE:

When you go to copy them over and go to select multiple, wait until the file counter has reached about 600+ and then select copy. IF you dont it will only select whats ready when selecting all.

Thanks buddy. It must be it, as I think I had about only 400 files copied. Will try again later.

I gotta agree with everyone else. Before 1.01 I got strong odors of shit from this game, but now every time i play i feel like I've jumped with both feet into the barrel of steaming shite that Konami hid behind gimmicks like "Player ID".

At least before the CPU had the common decency to wait until the ML to blatantly cheat. Now its overtly warping, ghosting, rubberbanding its way through every game.
I mean for fucks sake I just conceded another one of those goals where the keeper comes out to the bloody half line (unbidden) and gets embarrassed.

Don't get me started with the BAL. For yet another year I'm playing with my club's 3rd string 'special' team, chock full of lackwits and dullards!

I'm following in suuuuuuuuupertalk (and others) footsteps and rolling the fuck back to 1.0, where even though I can still smell the shit, it's hidden under a bed of unwatered roses.

I am strongly inclined to revert the game back to out of the box, v1.00.
But the downside is that we don't have the summer transfers.
Is there any way we can download only the transfer update, whilst leaving the rest unchanged, patch wise?

For me, feels like the latest patch installed PES 2012 back to my game. There's no middle of the road anymore. In Professional the game becomes too easy for me, in Top Player it becomes a cheat festival.

I can totally relate to what someone posted earlier about playing CL on Top Player. You can coast through the Group Stages, but once you hit the knockout stages, the CPU transforms itself into its worst form of PES 2012 cheating fest, ghosting through every defender, like a machine really, choosing the shortest way possible to my goal and just running over anything standing in its way.
Even passes become nearly impossible to intercept. I position my defenders in the right places, blocking passing lanes, but the ball always passes them by. Yesterday I had a string of 3 or 4 consecutive occurrences like this.

I'll try to revert this game to its factory defaults and try to get the main transfers done at least, and even so, if it still proves to be unplayable on Top Player, I'll trade it in to recoup some of my cash.

im waiting for all of the cpu patches to be complete so i cna start an ML... frustrating :) loving the game

Same here bud. I eventually, after all the time away from home over the last few weeks, got the WENB OF V3 downloaded as well as a huge chants pack to get my ML finally underway. Then as I tried to download Data-Pack 2, couldn't get online due to the Sony servers being offline for maintenance....... :(

Hahahaha i meant that is the average percentage of CPU possession.
Before patch it was between 80% and 70% (obviously me 20% - 30%) and now after patch between 60% - 50% (me 40% - 50%) :D

CPU possession between 70-80? Huh? Do you even touch the ball at all? :CONFUSE:

On Master League with ML default players (Minandinho and company) on Top Player (before patch) believe me that was very hard to have the ball.

Now after patch, (with the same team on TP) my possession has raised.

Hey guys can anyone help with headers? all my headers go up and wide evan with top players like Falcao(95 heading).... is there a proper way of doing it?

I try and use the manual arrow for headers, especially from corners, but it's really not much help. Bottom line is attacking headers aren't very good and need a lot of improvement in the next game.

I'm with you guys feeling pro level too easy and top player too cheating and then frustrating.
Don't you think the demo 1 was so well balanced? I was playing 20 minutes battles without dominating and without feeling cheated in pro level...
Bah...

The headers were overpowered in previous versions hence the reason I think they have been toned down. It's certainly all about your posture though, and the delivery. Players like Carroll can score even with pressure from opposing defenders, but lesser players will struggle unless they have a free header.

Heading hasn't really been a problem for me so far, I've felt it to be quite balanced. It's the delivery I'm having problems with for the most part, but I welcome that after the ease of previous years.

Really? It's so strange that most people complain about headers but I score lots of headers. From open play, that is. From Corners, CPU man-to-man marking is unrealistically flawless.

When playing as Fluminense, I score lots of headers with Fred. And when playing as Real Madrid, Benzema is a beast. I once scored a hattrick of headers (pre-patch though).

My general rule of thumb is don't charge the shot bar. In most cases just a slight touch on the shooting button before the ball arrives will do. If you fill the bar halfway or more, your header most likely will fly over the bar.

One very impotant thing: L1 + O. Those crosses have a high success rate.

Interesting, so with Falcao i would have to antecipate the defenders in order to avoid the physical pressure right?

TBH, the last time I played the game I didn't think my experience was all that bad. Even though the CPU was still marking so tight, it was not like the other day where my players couldn't even wait to take a first touch on the ball without being pushed off the ball with no foul or without being surrounded by two players.

This time I had some space (still not what you would expect playing with Barccelona) to work with, I could "play" at least, still not much fair in terms of space and time on the ball, but I could create some interesting attackin plays. The problem tho was those crucial moments that weird things happen to benefit the CPU, like players out of my control not moving into the path of the ball to intercept it or cut it out, and in those moments the ball doesn't roll at a high speed that gives my players no time to react, that's not the case, the ball rolls just very few step from my players positon, it's evident that my defender could intercept it with ease, but instead sometimes the opposite happens, he moves away from the ball, not to count the deflections that seem to favor CPU. Those are the moments that you really feel that the game starts to manipulate some "events" to get some predictable results that benfit the CPU. And when the CPU hoplessly need to score to qualify to next stage, that's when you feel CPU players seem to be stronger, they start making successful 180 passes, counter attacks become really fast and etc.

Let me sow you a video. Firstly, this is just the demo, I have not yet seen in the full game such a ridiculous CPU play like that, but my intention here is to show CPU passing (specially 180 passes) and how unbalanced the game can turn when CPU abuse that.

YouTube - Pes 2013 - CPU Goal (funny)

Without these issues, this could easily be the best football game on this gen.

With 95 Heading I would have thought he'd be ok, even without the physical presence of the likes of an Andy Carroll. The other big factor is the timing of the press of shoot. Too early or too late will have a detrimental effect on the connection. You should get some assistance though in this regard with a player with such high heading accuracy.

In days gone by, simply tapping shoot to head the ball as soon as it leaves the wingers boot on delivery was always enough. Now it isn't, you have to time to the press of the button to coincide with the connection. I remember PES 11 being brutal in this regard with diving headers, almost impossible to time perfectly. I liked that.

The delivery of crosses is the one thing I'm actually managing to do really well with, I'm scoring an absolute ton of goals from headers in this year's game, in fact it's become my main source of goals.

I basically spent a little time in free training seeing what happened when you cross the ball from the advanced wing position (level with the penalty area and beyond) and seeing what happened when I crossed and used the direction stick in every possible position. You can get some brilliant whipped crosses in front of the defence, or if you manage to get to the byline you can cut the ball back beyond the keeper (if I remember correctly, attacking to the right hand side goal, on the right wing for example, I think if you cross while momentarily holding down/left on the L stick will see the ball being cut back to the penalty spot kind of area).

I also use really early crossing, from around the edge of the box and further out. Using L1 at the same time, you can see a different crossing animation and by doing it early you don't give defenders enough time to get back, while your strikers can actively run onto the the ball.

Here are a few headers I've scored, more often than not I've swung the cross in early.

YouTube - PES2013

Here is another video of a header I scored tonight, attacking left to right I pulled the L stick pretty much diagonally down and right to cut the ball back.

YouTube - PES2013

The variety of crosses you can play in this is stunning, and the best advice I'd give is to try crossing in situations where you wouldn't normally attempt it. For example, one goal I scored that I didn't get a video of, was where I held L1 and 'crossed' the ball from halfway in the opponent's half, near central. It basically served as a long ball into the box and caused chaos, before ending in a goal.

As for types of headers, I don't really believe you can deliberately pull those off, it's entirely down to the body position of your player when the ball hits his head. That said, you can pull off lower headers by tapping shoot so it barely registers on the power bar, or use R2 like a controlled shot.

But if there is one thing I'd say is proving to be most successful with scoring headers, it's crossing early.

I'm loving it as well, but crucially I'm loving what I perceive to be the same game that came out of the box. 1.00 and 1.01 are not different.

Look at all the changes that are claimed for 1.01 on this one page of the thread alone. Does anybody seriously think that 1.01 did all that?

The last time Konami implemented gameplay changes in a patch was in, I think, PES2012's 1.03 and – here's the rub – they explicitly referenced it in the patchnotes. Goalkeepers and long-range shooting on that occasion. They weren't vague. They came out and said it.

This time, in PES2013 1.01, they have said nothing more than 'changes to gameplay experience across various modes'.
That part saying 'to various modes' is pretty significant, because if the changes are to PES2013 gameplay per se, saying 'to various modes' is redundant. To my Japanglish-attuned ear it could mean nothing more than 'here, have an Online widget to slap across your screen'. The PES team at Konami must laugh their heads off every time they push out a boots and balls and menus update, as this one was IMO.

Take a look at the command list.. a lot of things aren't even stated there as to how to perform them or the context etc. Does that mean that it can't be done because it isn't specifically stated? Hehe

So if Konami doesn't specify what they changed or even if they changed it all doesn't mean it could be noticeable to folks.
I'm not the only who thinks this, because i play this game extensively with friends who partially confirmed what i believe has changed. Now I maybe one guy typing a long post with a supposed ad hoc concensus but that's just you trying to be cynical and not really disputing what i said except for "I don't notice it" Well that's ok, but then i'm also 100% sure that i've seen more of the intricacies in the game then you have.

Nice :)

I'm struggling to find the back of the net from dead balls at the minute, I've only bagged a couple in total. Need to get my shit together......
Cheers, Jimmy.
To be honest I haven't scored that many myself. With that one I just pressed upwards on the right stick, followed by a sort of diagonal push downwards to the left.
I normally hit the bar, or the keeper saves them, so when they do go in it's very satisfying.

Not scored one header.

Tonight I started a CL mode and game speed was set to -1.
After two balanced games I thought the gameplay felt sluggish. Halfway through balanced 3rd game (1-0 down) I switched to speed 0 and what happened amazed me. The team I was playing against (Kiev) became the Harlem globe trotters of football. I couldn't get the ball and within about 2 mins of real time they were 3-0 up and missing chances to make it 4,5 or even 6. It was total madness. All that from switching game speeds!
