PES 2013 Discussion Thread

I actually believe he acted correctly too. We were all thirsty for news of Master League and modes in general. It was up to the people who heard him how to react to the news.

Agreed. Some can overlook it, some can't. It is a big deal for a section of the fanbase.

I think it's safe to say everyone here would rather bootgate hadn't happened.

@info0 : What about the game speed? Isn't it still as fast as the demo?

Yes, so you're screwed online but offline you can easily get it to play exactly how you want with Sprint speed, Acceleration and Pass speed sliders.
What kills FIFA for me is the lack of a realistic amount of fouls still (and consequently free kicks), otherwise it plays a pretty dam good game of football with a decent slider set - not quite in the league of PES but as mentioned, the ease and presentation of the league mode and attention to every bloody detail is pretty impressive.

So, we can get it to play slower than FIFA 12? That must be great. Anyway, how good is the gameplay compared to PES?

"The gameplay in PES is better than FIFA". Will anyone agree if I said that?

I haven't tried FIFA this year (not installing Origin to try a demo - EA's loss) but I can safely say the gameplay in PES2013 is the best it has been since PES5, maybe better.

For all the moaning I do about modes, I'm really pleased with the gameplay this year. I've not played that many games but I've already got a whole load of goal replays saved.

This year could have been the perfect package for PES, something I've been waiting for since the PS2. Alas.....

I agree, with the proviso that we maturely recognise that FIFA also has good gameplay, but I agree that PES2013's is better. Which makes it all the more frustrating that PES's modes seem so anaemic to so many.

I'm okay. I'll be happy with ML for another year I think, but there's precious little else to do in PES if you don't like ML for whatever reason. (I don't count anything Online as a proper game mode. It's a different game really.)

At first before playing PES, I felt.. FIFA is going to be the clear winner. I became a fan boy. A thing that I regret. I didn't even look at PES because it was obvious from the last couple of years. But then I got the full game. Loaded up a match. The atmosphere, the positioning of players, the marking, every logical thing of football truly recreated. You can't score everytime you wish to. A perfect attack needs to be thought out.. Simply brilliant.

Before those happened, I had a go at the FIFA demo. The game was great and flowing but then I realised.. the game was too fast and lacked some things in gameplay. But presentation was great.

It's what happens on the pitch that matters. PES matters.

As stated and IMHO, it's not quite as good but with a decent slider set it is quite playable. Being a PES/WE veteran, I've tried and rejected every FIFA since 94 but I might actually keep this one, if only because PES has no league play.

FIFA has good gameplay mechanics (stuff like collisions, responsiveness, etc) and animations, but when it comes to the actual football intricates (player positioning, runs, 1 on 1 behavior and general AI routines) it's completely lacking.

PES would be brilliant gameplay-wise if those mechanics weren't (still) so messed up and if the AI scripting wasn't so bloody evident.

But it's the gameplay that matters. If a modder finds a way to create generic leagues (is it possible now?) and import it into ML, then this would be the better game. FIFA may reign in sales, but PES wins in support.

Now on the pitch, many people including me, said that gameplay in FIFA is just animations, arcade, no individuality, weight. Hell of surprise when you play full game... Mixed with different styles of teams and first touch errors... Makes the game unpredictable.

Seriously, this is the best football game ever made (yup, better than WE9LE and PES5/6).

No way, not for me and not in a million years with what they currently have. That's one hell of an exaggeration to call it that, but that's your opinion anyway. While I do like some of their offerings, I absolutely hate how players run with the ball, turn, and dribble. I keep playing it to try and squeeze something out of it but in no way it's the best football ever made imho.

There is ML and I'm sure someone will come up with a fix for the boots issue and many others. Try playing a season with transfers low and player development off. League mode or someone said so!

You can easily avoid all the boots in ML anyway. It's really tucked away under items and no need to even be looked at.

Isnt it just.

I am playing Copa with Fluminese and controlling Deco is like controlling a football god. You feel the way he plays the engine room ahead on Edihno and the other blond chap. There are times when you are just in awe of how your mind is laid out on the pitch

Konami are literally standing on the verge of greatness and fucked it up with poor decision making.

Makes me wonder how much different things would have been if Seabass was still development team leader

The problem is that hysteria has bubbled away for so long and so disproportionately. Many people are hunkered down behind an ideological wall, where it's almost seen as 'cool' to think of ML as a delivery system for Magic Boots, with an occasional League breaking out.

Anyone here got FIFA 13 full game? I am blown away.

I have the full game of both games and to be honest right at the moment IMO PES has the better gameplay (and since last year i considered myself a FIFA-man).
Of course if Konami had ahlf of the attention of details that EA has...EA treat their customers, much, much better. Konami are stubborn and out of touch.

The carreer mode in FIFA13 is fantastic, unbelievably good and immersive.

But football games are about what happen on the pitch.
FIFA is good, but there are some things which annoy me.
There is no midfield in FIFA, the pitch is too small (and i think those two gripes are realted to each other). Playing FIFA is like playing Futsal without boarding (i'm exagerating).
And my main gripe: to score goals in PES you have to think like on a football pitch, in FIFA not or less...It could well be that i'm biased since all these professional football players do play FIFA and not PES.

IS FIFA bad? Not at all. I've been playing both games a lot the last days...but this year i have the impression that PES have overtaken FIFA gamplaywise. Still Konami deserve a red card.

Totally agree, if you see a football match with Barcelona you´ll see the players movements are the same as PES 2013. Some people say that PES 2013 movements are robotic... A football match has these movements, and not skating movements like FIFA 13.

I disagree with people saying FIFA 13 is the best football game ever made, in fact In my opinion EAs series has yet to reach the gameplay heights of the PS2 Pro Evo series. It just hasn't got that "spark" for me, the gameplay is boring, some of the player models look absolutely awful and the only areas the series excels over Konami is presentation, online modes and commentary.

PES 2013 has faults but for me when it comes to the gameplay it is a much better experience than FIFA 13 imo. My major disappointment is there is no 2 v 2 online on the 360 version, will that be coming in this upcoming online patch update?

It's about 50/50 as far as I'm concerned when it comes to gameplay. Each game has it's pros and cons on the field. That being said, if the ball and the players in FIFA 13 had the same feel and heft to them that PES 2013's does I don't think I'd touch PES 2013 again.

I have been playing iss since 1998 and have bought it every year since, last year was so pathetic and scripted i gave up, reluctantly and it took me a long time to come to the decision but it just wasnt enjoyable.

But i have to admit i bought it again hoping they had improved it, strengthened the weaknesses, and my god the game is pure class.

Knuckle shots, nutmegs, tackling (is finally possible) just small things like this have done enough for me to convince me im in love with it again.

Still disappointed with no leagues being playable and editing etc but gameplay is what keeps me happy and lets me enjoy it so ill choose that over Fifa's options all day.

Thanks Konami :)

How many seasons of Master League are you basing that on? What combinations of trainers/doctors on Staff, and at what levels (1-5)? What kind of distribution of focus points, varied at what times of the season? What kind of squads - Defaults, Originals, Classics?

Or are you just going on that very sketchy report from somebody who simmed season 1 (note: season ONE) without any training upgrades and the like?

I do agree about FIFA's sumptuous feature-set though. I haven't sampled FIFA13 yet, but FIFA12's was utterly compelling, and if PES had even half of what's on offer in FIFA... sigh.

3 seasons in as Real Madrid with club lineup. Best staff around in game. You get focus points in each season so you can spread them to your coach.

The training does v. little. You get most boosts through items (sigh) or boots (but those only affect 5 params).

Get your team recovery items and you can pressure for 90 mins (mind you I only played on Professional diff).

There was even test done by someone who simmed seasons to see what affects team tactics. Crazy.

Might try with original players next time. Just to remind you about boots: most I got through the season was 4 (not including the guys you can buy with them on already :P)

And Goalkeepers and their reactions are atrocious. Can't believe how utterly BAD they are and behave. Rushing out when completely not needed and colliding with your defender you're controlling!! FFS!

Sure up until you reach penalty area PES 2013 gameplay is v. good, but then you can be sure, that with practice, you'll convert 99% of your chances :(. Beating teams by 9 goals because of bad GK play alone is sad.

@MU the speed on PS3 wasn't an issue. Guess it depends on TV you're using. Waiting till Friday so I can get it though (only played it in game center).

Hoping that KONAMI brings back the goods next year though. Sentiments I have towards those series are enormous after all.

We could be unfairly blaming Seabass and recently Kei Masuda for all these poor design choices when in reality these decisions could be made above their heads. I refuse to believe true football aficionados (which the PES Productions guys are if what we are told is correct) would sanction - nay, suggest - removal of league mode.

There is more to this than we are led to believe.

Got some more action on PES 2013 today. Much better from me now, playing as Real Madrid I destroyed the CPU-controlled Juventus on Top Player level, 4-0 and 4-2.
Benzema is a beast on headers.

However I'm still unhappy about the whole "lock on" system of defending, as it doesn't feel natural and organic as it used to be. It's pure mechanic and dull and boring to defend, IMO. The art of defending in PES is no longer pure since PES 2012. This "lock" system reminds me of NBA Live series circa 1999/2000 when you had a button that locked and all you had to do is keep it pressed to follow the ball carrier.
Anyway, this is just my opinion of course. I see some here are more than happy with whatever Konami will throw at them.

I also wanted to see better kicking animations. Outside of the foot shots don't have the proper animations. For instance, look at this free kick I scored with Ronaldinho:
YouTube - Bend it like Ronaldinho

Oh, and I got a question to the defence experts here. If I press R1 + X, my defender will lunge in for the ball. But many times I was the last man chasing an attacker and I was obviously pressing R1 to sprint after him, whilst pressing X to apply pressure and try to make him stumble. But what happened sometimes is that my defender would try that tackle animation instead of keeping the pressure. How will I get out of such pickle? :D

Agreed Jamez look at 2008 he didnt want it released but they pushed to get it out

Yeah, I remember there was a quote from Seabass at some games show before PES2008 was released. I'll never be able to find the quote but I remember the WENB podcast talking about it. Seabass was basically saying that PES was making Konami a hell of a lot of money and he needed more investment in PES to move the series forward, but he wasn't getting it. Five years later and the game is still using the same engine.

The people higher up in Konami obviously have their priorities wrong.

Not a fan of the lock-on system either.

If you started a ML with Real Madrid's actual real players then of course training will have little effect, all the players will already be at the top, or very near the top of, their development curve anyways. If a player's potential is between 75-90, and his base starting stat is already at 89 because he is already a Spain international, what do you expect training to acheive?

A for keepers, well, that's bizarre because I've never seen a single dodgy issue with a keeper. Oh, and if you're beating teams by 9 goals then you must either be the best PES player in existence or playing it on a really low difficulty setting.
