PES 2013 Discussion Thread

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)

I don't get the need to play full manual. The game punishes you for precision errors produced by an error prone device such as the tiny x-box stick. So, you mistake an easy pass with Xavi because the precision in your thumb wasn't accurate enough.

When I play real football and I pass the ball to a player near me, I just think of that direction and my muscular body does the rest. That is IMO how 1-2 bars passing work.

I have to agree. Sometimes, for simple passes using manual is overkill. It should be as simple as a real pass. But, occasionally you want to play a precision pass into space or diagonally across the pitch and it's a joyous moment when you pull it off with an L2 manual + O combo.

I think PES has really captured the intricacies of choosing the correct form of passing, in this edition.

R2 + O for a high lofted ball really does work if you have Andy Caroll up front. Your tactics really make a difference if they match the strengths of your players! The best football game I've ever played (FIFA or PES/WE).

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)

I believe you can play up to 4 v 4 on PES once they update the online component in a couple of weeks. At least 2 v 2 will be possible. And the widget system sounds good in theory, but hopefully it's well implemented.

I'm more enthused about the possibility of having PES manage any online leagues within your community. I'm pretty sure I read this was going to be a feature. I can't remember if we had that already on last year's online community??

Yeah that lofted through ball is handy as an option. I agree with the manual passing option. Even if you play 0 assist passing, you can press the manual modifier to make sure you get the throughball or cross going exactly where you want it, without having to miss simple passes to feet.

Actually, having tried out 2 bar passing the other day, it seemed like overpowering a pass introduces directional error and not just speed error. Maybe it was just a coincidence though.

yeah, it says on the game box

if you can play fixed cursor you can basically be playing 4v4 fifa clubs mode which would be sickkk

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)

How do you sprint and push the ball ahead of you. Do you double tap /triple tap the R1 or the L ?

Been a long time since the WE5 days and a bit rusty with those skills!

I hadn't paid attention to that but someone mentioned it in a Facebook post this morning.

Hold the sprint button down and then as you're holding it down, double or triple tap the same button (ie. sprint button) and it will knock the ball on a bit longer.

You can also do a speed burst while you're dribbling, which knocks the ball on in a direction you choose with the left stick. Hold down sprint button then press the R2 button at the same time and move the left stick to the player's front or diagonally.

If you're sprinting down the wing (or somewhere else) in a straight line, you can do the first method of tapping sprint. If you want to beat someone with pace and direction to wrongfoot them, you can do the speed burst move.

Thanks alot mate... that's what i love about PES... skills are incrementally more difficult, so you can play with basic skills and the advanced skills give you a progress advantage!

different game but thats why i do assisted passing on fifa and manual through ball.

Often on manual/semi passes i was misplacing passes to players only 5-10 feet away, it was a joke..so i decided i would make passing assisted which meant if i wanted a simple easy succsful pass i just press pass,,,,if i wanted to do a manual pass i use the through ball button....best of both worlds

No worries! Try it out in free training first til you can do it consistently, then you can use it to your advantage :)

One thing I worked out last year is that I could draw fouls around the penalty box if I dribbled at players instead of trying to pass it around or score screamers all the time. Gives you opportunities for free kick goals :P Normally I would just dribble around the midfield or the wing.

You're right though - the more you play PES, the more you pick up things that help in different scenarios. I just wish some people I knew who are FIFA through and through, would give it a chance and delve a bit into the learning curve as it's so rewarding!

My next thing is to learn some feints properly :)

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)

manual passing is really well balance imo:

you can now manually pass along the ground to the wing and stretch the opponent... the ball travels really fast and the receiver can use R2 to trap the ball... it's a little bit more work but it gives you an extra second of advantage at the risk of you losing control from a mis-hit pass. that's the beauty of the game... small advantages adding up to draw the opponent out of position.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)

Can't believe people are having a go at manual passing...

It takes practice. Lots of it. It's not something you will learn in 1h of playing <lol>.

YouTube - PES2013 Demo - Full Manual Controls - My Opinions

This guy put it nicely. Passing on manual is ace. Shooting however, is hit and miss (it's like shooting + stick movement is irrelevant to camera you're using, so you miss a lot of shots).

But passing, my God :D. (and this opinions in vid are coming from guy who was on TAMFA [the all manual fifa association]).

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)

Re - zero assistance or not, I'm having this very problem.

I have been playing zero assist on Superstar, and whilst I've been enjoying the games generally I still feel that Superstar boosts CPU stats, combined with the increased pressure and less mistakes zero assist was starting to become a bit of a grind. I was Liverpool and after around half a season was comfortably knocked out of the Europa and am laying 16th in the league (realistic you may say).

But to try and balance out the increased CPU efficiency in Superstar mode I increased the bars to firstly one bar and then two. The games felt easier but I'm afraid they instantly became too arcadey. It seems totally psychological to me. As soon as you have that 'passing aid' even if it's one bar, you're game will automatically change and for the most part for the worst. You'll look to move forward with every player more/faster, you're game becomes a bit one-dimensional and rushed and you'll look to hit the glory ball too often/too soon.

So...I'm thinking of changing the game level as opposed to the passing assistance.

What are you guys playing on? I think Jimmy and Curdstar favours professional, but I might just drop it to Top Player. What's this like this year, last year it seemed that Superstar was the most balanced of all the modes in terms of CPU build up play and scripting etc.

On Superstar as well I feel I am short changing myself a little too as the focus is on the win as efficiently as possible, I don't feel I am learning new things with the plethora of buttons at my disposal because I'm just so determined to play winning football that the subtleties are going amiss.

Anyway, any thoughts welcome.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)

Go to Professional and zero bars. See how you go from there. If it's not quite right, try Top Player.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)

where are you getting this from? when has anyone ever said this? youre just assuming thats what people think

manual makes the game more realistic and slower. and to not rely on patterns of the game (through balls, chipped through balls, fifa finesse shots etc. all because of the assistance meter decides those type of shots should be going in)

far more acurate to say it divides the people want to play a realistic game of football to those that dont.

He's getting it from post like this.
It is NOT realistic that a player like Xavi misses a 2m pass...
I play on one bar. I'm a rather lousy player compared to most of you (or what most of you claim to be, but i guess most will be better players than me) and i haven't got much time...I never tried full manual in current gen, but from what i read here...it's a very steep learning curve...i simply haven't got the time to master it.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)

I just experienced such a wonderful sequence of cpu gameplay--

I mucked up a pass in midfield and the cpu broke quickly from AMF to far left wing (I mean far! the ball was diagonally dropped easily 15 yards ahead of the sprinting WF). Anyway, my CB got there in time to jockey. Back and forth they went along the touch line, up an down the wing, dribble/jockey. Finally the WF breaks through but encounters my other CB, so he passes back (!) to the waiting SB, who passes it back to their DMF just inside the circle who switches sides to the other WF!

I don't think in 100 games of PES 2012 did I ever see a player break into the box and then back out or pass out and then, have mercy, see the cpu switch sides like that. What a joy...

--Good day!

its also not realistic that xavis passes are on rails by predetermined AI and he cant pass exactly where he wants, 5 yards, 10 yards in front of his teammate to run onto.

you gotta remember this is a game! stats are constantly being over ridden by user input - if youre a bad pes player and you play barca vs leeds and you lose because u suck, is that realistic? to have barca lose 5-0 to leeds? no!! its just that you suck at the GAME

its really not some steep, piano master type learning. tape L2 button down and have the arrows always on... within 5 games you will learn the system and understand, then you should make up your mind

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)

I think I need to find the enjoyment level again, and I think it's probably on Superstar but using one bar or two assist. I'm probably missing out on the intricacies of full manual but the trade off is that I can play some nice flowing football and not feel bogged down by the game. In professional, compared to Superstar, I fond that the CPU played a little too linearly. May be just me, but I find the CPU play much more varied on Superstar.

I understand what your saying and you have a point, but what winds me up is when the player picks out a different player than what I was aiming for because of the assistance. It also messes with the power too much for my liking. Once you master 0 assistance there's no going back, you can play it into pockets of space, infront/behind, quick passes to feet, little lay offs ect really opens the game up for me.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)

I had some lovely games last night, the highlight being a 0-0 draw away to QPR.

With Barton still at QPR I decided to see if I could snap him and so I dived in whenever he had possession.

This seemed to set the tone for the rest of the match as there were loads of hard (but generally fair) crunching tackles.

QPR battered me with shots (10-4) but it felt like a proper "blood and thunder" premiership match.

One of the most enjoyable matches I've had despite the lack of goals and, for me, lack of chances too.

(BTW, I applied a really good option file last night to give me up to date Prem kits, I'll post a link in the Option File thread in a minute).

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)

I prefer 1 bar vs cpu.

However on line manual passing is a must, it makes the games tight, midfield battles, keep the score low and mroe importantly you get to avoid all the noobs playing barca.

Game needs:
1) Decent cameras
2) Decent lighting. texture wise is great, but poor lighting and 0 AA are really bad.

Yup I had a similar match that I described a page back. I'm loving how you can snap away and hack using either R1 (lb) when holding x (a) or double tapping the tackle button. There are far more yellow cards now for both sides which is so much more realistic, previous games would give a yellow for sliding tackles only.

I just read your post and you're spot on - the defending is now something to enjoy rather than endure.

It is possibly one of the biggest changes to the game.

Damn, reading your post makes me want to go home and have a game!

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)

Yeah that double tap lunge is much more realistic, I only slide now if the ball is free from the player otherwise it nearly always results in a foul.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)

I'm not buying into this whole Zero is full manual rubbish, it's anything but. In fact, the Zero Assistance this year has more assistance than last year and is more consistent, whilst at the same time, more free. It's a lovely marriage once you get to grips with it, and it gives you so much more control than any other of the options. Short deft lay-off's, drilled balls on the deck, and even the clever stuff, such as Through-Balls and High Through-Balls feel almost perfectly weighted once you gauge the required strengths. It's so far removed from last year in that particular area.

I also don't believe that the likes of Xavi have any problem misplacing 5 yard passes on this system. I misplace very little to none at that range, and I'm playing with mid-level teams at best. So I'm not buying that argument.

Maybe those still using the D-Pad are the ones having issues with this system ?

I had some amazing games online last night on Zero with friends, the connections were flawless, 10/10. It was like playing offline. What an amazing game this is.

For the record, Zero Assistance on either Professional or Top Player (feels a lot more balanced this year), is the way to go. You don't need Superstar on Zero, I genuinely believe that level is better served with Passing Assistance.

Zero has more assistance then last year? No way last year zero assistance was more assisted used to be really unpredictable with the power you needed this year is much more consistent.

Agree with what else you said really opens the game up, I think top player would be too easy on 1/2 bar passing

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)

Anyone having problems trying to complete the long ball pass in training.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)

I think calling it manual is misleading, I dont think the game calls it that. 0 bars is stat assistance only IMO, which is how it should be, anything else shackles the game.

The manual shooting on the other hand... Is anyone using this or given it a good go? I have played about with it and I am unsure. There have been times when I have thought that the manual shooting is as essential as 0 assist passing in getting the most out of the game and taking it closer to a full simulation. I had the left winger running diagonally down off the wing towards the box, the ball was played across his body and I aimed for the top left corner, he struck through the ball and this combined with the direction of the pass caused it to veer off to the left missing the goal. Now, if I had aimed more to the right would this have flew in the top left corner? Did I miss because of the ball moving across my body, the place that I had aimed for, the shooting accuracy stat and the power applied or did I miss because my stick was pointing too far to the left? And this is the confusion I face, am I missing the goal because of a combination of factors which if this is the case then manual shooting is incredible. Or am I missing simply because I did not point the stick in the exact direction required to hit that part of the goal. Your thoughts?

I have a question which could be considered off-topic (if so: sorry).

I have the French version of the game (silly me), can someone give me a link to a decent option file for the French version?

Thanks.

Somebody asked about the long pass in training: i must have tried it 200 times and i alwys fail, the problem is that i don't have the slightest idea what i' m doing wrong. In game it works fine with me, but in training not at all...

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread (Warez talk of any kind will be punished with a ban!)

I'm also quite baffled when it comes to the completion of the first long pass training. I've been trying to complete it using 0 assist. Gonna try it with higher pass support levels too, seems that someone here mentioned that it might help.
