PES 2013 Discussion Thread

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Here is something I don't get. And I'm in the same boat as well.

Why do people that complain still buy the game ? This has happened year after year after year ? I don't care how bad the game is, people will still buy this. I think Konami has also realized this. As long as we buy this game but continue to complain we will never be satisfied.

As I can see, KONAMI and PES franchise is going to different direction.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Are we talking 'euro pop' level of shit?

It's as shallow as Euro Pop/Euro trash, which is a whole rotten genre.
This Michel Telo guy took a typical genre from a region in Brazil and somehow made it big everywhere in the world, and heavens know why. Music's shit, lyrics and singing are embarrassing. This guy just happened to have good management and PR. Well, shit music seems to be in demand pretty much everywhere in the world, so it's just business.

Every Brazilian I've met in the last few months had told me how embarrassed they are that this song is what got popular outside of Brazil and what people thus associate as Brazil's finest? True? It's like Bieber and Canada, I guess.

This is an embarrassment no doubt. But I think people with the minimum sense would dismiss this as Brazil's finest, they will just figure it's a freak occurrence, a one hit wonder.

The other day a French beauty came up to me in a pub, already knowing I'm Brazilian, and started singing that to me. Well, I couldn't disapprove that of course :D

Ahem, anyway, back on topic (sort of): this tune will be right up there with the most irritating ones since "Go for the goal", "Ole Ole Futebol" and "Roda peão, rodeia peão"
Konami just scours the Earth after the most irritating songs ever.

masochism?

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Yea that's where I usually order my games from apart from the used ones from ebay. I'm just trying to get hold of the United steelbook version.

Thanks anyway :)

No probs mate. I'd order from there but I have PES 2012 to trade in for $28 and Jb Hi-Fi have it listed as $79.99. I might have trouble trading in an imported version so it's easier for me to buy it in store and then trade it the next year.

EB Games or JB Hi Fi I believe have "a" steelbook edition for pre-order but I'm not sure if the Man Utd one is an option. Did notice that EB have updated their website to say 20/9 for release date :)

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

demo2 is so good. really love this game. ive learnt that A contain seems rather crap - at least against the AI - im better off just using R2 (jockey) and sometimes A contain if i need to pull back into position. but for actualy defending i seem all over the place using contain

just scored this goal with full manual controls, incredibly simple goal but had me out my seat, the counter was on and i thought i messed it up with my slightly wayward pass to Llorente but then hes lays it off for a midfielder

YouTube - pes 2013 demo 2 manual

also one thing which seems really just missing from the game is ariel duals, seiously, the players dont move, even with R2 which is what is meant to move your players they just stand still

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Must be shit.

Never heard of it.

Personally i don't like it, but you would not have known it if it was terrific. That is if you are the average Brittish music fan (if you are not: sorry).
It seems as if most Brittish fans don't expect that bands or musicians are doing good things outside Brittian and America.

I don't like Ai Seu Tu Pego but having this on the soundtrack is the equivalent of Michael Jackson in the '80's, Led Zeppelin or Abba in the 70's or the Beatles in the 60's...HUGE.

Anyway: sorry for being sort of off-topic and don't take this personal Jamezinho. I was speaking in general (which basically wrong).

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Those bloody ignorant Brits, when will they learn?

Anyway, holiday for me today and then when I get back PES 2013! If I have any money left...

When you read all the comments in this thread how is konami meant to make a near perfect game ?

Over last 3 pages some people love the passing and others hate it.

Some live the dribbling and shooting others hate it.

Some like demo 1 others demo 2.

Just reading this thread would make a company that make games give up.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

True, and that could be why they need more sliders so people can adjust everything to their own taste. Of course that is fine for offline play.

I agree because every player has his own vision of the gameplay.
As did Fifa 12.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

The more I play demo 2, the more I like it, which is a good sign. Shooting with power outside the box has more varied trajectories now. Love seeing the ball fizz just wide after taking a few bounces. In the past you'd see a very scripted looking bounce always in the same spot or the ball always flying at the same height.

If you hold sprint and then press shoot, it's nowhere near as powerful as giving sprint a tap or double tap just before you shoot (and I don't mean the big knock on - just enough to get the ball out from his feet). THEN, you can see a player's true kicking power, as they call it. Guys like Rooney smack it with the venom seen in demo 1 and less powerful shooters still hit it with great pace.

2 biggest things that stand out to me as areas for improvement:
- they've taken away too much power from the curling shot...and possibly removed some of the curl. But then again, there was lots of feedback on how overpowered these shots were in Demo 1...I wish they had a middle ground as there's less satisfaction to curling one in now.

- crossing/long balls with the cross button seem to be a bit pot luck still. I don't really get the feeling I can consistently pick out an area to cross to and if you want to smack a low hard long ball across field, it will only happen if there's a clear path between you and the recipient. Otherwise, it selects the nearest player and performs a small chip. They really need to allow more freedom with those without the need for the manual modifier.

Yeah the thing with contain is Konami has restricted the effectiveness of the contain for a couple of years now to help reduce the homing missile style of the pressing.

Contains good for getting your defender within a decent range of the attacker but once your in the attackers zonal area, R2 jockeying prevails

Loving demo 2. Best footy game for many years, when played on full manual. If they could just stop defensive lines being so high and fix that annoying thing where defenders continually allow through balls to pass through them and attackers to ALWAYS get there first, then it would be a perfect game.

If the boots thing in ML is right then I'll just play a league campaign and cups, hell I've been playing the demo non stop for 2 weeks so just to have 10 minute matches would be enough for me.

I love what I'm seeing with this game, but I just can't seem to play one or two games without switching it off in pure frustration and anger due to the ridiculously limited timescale. :(

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Not biased at all, as I kept going back and forth between the 2 demos, 3 games here then 3 games there and rinse repeat. Every time I switch to demo 2 I just cannot help but feel 2012 crawling back again. A few games then back to demo 1 and that 2012 feeling is gone. Back to demo 2 and it crawls back. Ugh. :ANX:
Have to say I agree with this like. They seem to have added some 2012 elements back in since Demo 1 was released and thats killed some of the good that was in Demo 1.

Ha, yeah, somehow I'm coping with that quite well. I think that's because this is my real first stab at full manual so I'm just looking to keep my passing percentage about 80% - if I do that then I've achieved enough for now.

The really horrible thing for me is that I seem to play best as Man Utd which doesn't feel right for a Liverpool supporter such as I :-)

They don't. That's why PES sales have gone to shit the last 4 years. And that's why Konami doesn't have money to change anything. Not that it would anyway.

Konami is one of the con-companies of this generation. They have actually spend very little on development in order to have the maximum profit on sales. That's why they keep releasing it, even with such low sales. That means that they are still making a profit.

That's a healthy corporate mentality that should only work with 15 year olds. I'm surprised that there are still grown men buying this product.

Not that FIFA is better though, I'm just saying.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

haha
People have no idea of the lyrics so that's fine. I didn't want to downgrade her effort in singing in Portuguese. Plus, a girl like her could sing whatever she wanted and I'd still be pleased :)

I don't mind having this in the game as long as Konami still picked the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, and The XX for their soundtrack. But so far it seems it will be purely shit music (that Rednek one is getting on my nerves already). Hopefully they are licensing some decent ones.
It should have diversity, like in FIFA - very good tracks to counter balance the really bad ones. But Konami doesn't have to break the bank to do so. I really liked the soundtrack from PES 2011. I think I had to delete only 1 or 2 songs in there :)

Just to pick up on this bit of your post Lyvean, I'm 40 next month and I'm finding the older I get, the less I care about certain things that would've wound me up some years ago.

I'm not saying my tastes are dumbing down, moreso that I spend less time worrying about things I can't change and I instead just try to enjoy whatever is in front of me.

I don't mean any disrespect, just offering the alternative of a "grown man" who probably represents the older fraction of the evo-web community.

Rather speculative got any figures or insights to back this up?
I am turning 34 in a few weeks and buy play PES and have a circle of friends form 24 - 34 that play it religiously online and offline.

Also to me it seems PES appeals more to the realism or old fashioned football gamer. Yes konami make silly additions but on a whole and the gameplay is not exactly custom made for kids. That's why FIFA outsells PES the way it does. Dumb downed gameplay and pretty kits.

Totally disagree, i'm 35 and have been playing PES/ISS since being around 16-17 years old. I have half switched to FIFA in 08 and then totally converted after the Euro game. Fifa does not have dumbed down gameplay, what is has is options on how to play it, if your a kid then play it 2 button mode or all assisted, for the old school with manual and sliders the gameplay is anything but dumbed down. PES is in standstill mode, every year its the same only tired animations, the poor cameras, the bad switching and the ropey keepers that force you to turn it off. Add on this year the AI constantly looking for the through ball. I reckon I am 30 games in on the PC with the time extended mod and I'd say a good 90 % of goals I have has been through a perfect through ball, which your defender doesn't react/switch in time, and then one on one with the keeper.

This is like how Romanians were ashamed of Numa Numa e.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Okay, here come my impressions.

First, some background. Oldest members may remember me as I was a hardcore fan of the in-game editor and tried to help around seven-eight years ago with kit and badge edition in PS2. I have been a PES player since ISS on Super NES, ISS Pro Evolution (all versions) on PS1, and all PES and some Winning Eleven versions too on PS2. Then next-gen consoles came and PES was ruined. Until now.

This the year where I'm dumping FIFA (been there for 10, 11 and 12 versions) and coming back home. To me, PES 2013 is back to its roots, great sensations in a football game.

Demo 2 shows many things that have been missing since the PS2 era:

- First, and most important of all, I have not detected any major problem, there's no evident deal-breaker to me, which is a new since next-gen arrived. This should not be news under normal conditions, but we all know what PES has become lately, so it is something to mention.

Now the good stuff:

- True (this time for real) 360º degree control.
- Players move fluidly, not like robots or on-rails.
- Super cancel is not that much needed anymore, as the manual R3 teammate-run button works like a charm.
- Manual passing and shooting is perfectly implemented in this game. This is a blast for me. It's PES back to its best: give me control over passing, and I'll decide how to play.
- Again, passing is bliss in this game. :)
- Shooting: want to curl it in? Press R2, position your player well and you'll see a great technical effort. Want to blast it in like a rocket? Tap square once, and when your player is about to touch the ball, tap it again: Ronaldo-like missile without any effect, swerving towards the goalie. Want it low? Tap triangle after square and the rocket will turn into a torpedo. It's your choice, and IMHO it's perfectly implemented.
- AI seems good to me. Goalies are not utter crap, neither are they Casillas all the time. CPU pressure seems a bit high, but that's most of modern footy anyway, and it forces you to build up your plays "Spain-style", or try a Xabi Alonso intelligent through ball.
- Corner kicks and crosses to the box feel perfectly balanced in pace and curl for me. I just happen to be useless in heading so far, but I'm sure it's my fault, as I've conceded several cool headers against friends in the demo.
- Game speed seems very good to me. I long for 10 minute games in which I have a bit more time to build up plays, but overall speed at "0" seems OK to me.
- Player ID is perfect. Ronaldo feels like Superman when running into open spaces, Messi is lethal (finally!), Iniesta, Özil, Xavi, Pirlo, all deliver great ball control and passing, Ramos just feels strong, Rooney has his monster shooting... Try nice skills with Neymar, but don't dare do so with Gomez. You can feel the difference there.
- Defending has implemented the best ideas from FIFA (contention) and, again IMO, improved upon them. I like the use of R2 for jockeying, X for contention, double X for tackling and square for teammate help. You can just press square to send your teammates to pressure while keeping control of a defender some metres behind with X, organizing your pressure effectively. This is new for PES (it used to be just hold square+X forever and run around), and it brings a new dimension.
- I just LOVE dribbling on this game. It's cool how they have implemented simple moves like Iniesta's "La Croqueta" effectively (moves are simple, the art is in the timing) and complex ones too (Neymar's feints require a bit more button-magic which make them less frequent). Just as in real life.
- I also enjoy the R2 oriented control button. I like the R2+R1 combinations (pace change, nutmeg, run-around). Very intuitive. Very well implemented.

What I like less:

- I still feel the collision engine is somewhat lacking. Sometimes players bounce between themselves as if they were mannequins, not people. Not much of a severe problem, but it's definitely there.
- I have become spoilt by how FIFA players fight for an air ball or while running the sides. I feel this is not quite up to the same level in PES yet.
- I still don't understand what's with the pitch texture and Konami. I play this game for the feels of it, not the looks, but come on, it's 2012 already. It cannot be too hard when every single patch massively improves pitch textures. And it's been like this since 2003. Time to fix it guys.
- Chants and audience noise suck. Always been like this, always will be. Missing so much the custom chants that FIFA allow in the game editor, it makes a big difference in presentation.
- Have not had the chance to listen to Spanish commentary yet, and still I suppose it will suck, as it always has. :)
- Licenses are overdue, a must for this game. I cannot patch a PS3 game as I patched the PS2 ones, so unlicensed teams are a hassle... unless the in-game editor is as cool as it used to be.

Overall, I've not felt anything similar for a PES since Winning Eleven 7 International. To me, it was downhill ever since. This is the first PES that feels like the good Pro-Evo in many, many years. And I'd say it's up there with the best. To me, this is a massive improvement over what came before, finally a true deserver of the PES name in the next-gen consoles, and a fresh change from FIFA (which being as awesome as it is, has grown a bit old on me recently).

Good feelings...

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

@hitman thanks sorry if I struck a nerve I know how you feel about fifa but at the end of the day it comes down to opinion.

A slower game can be deemed unresponsive and bug ridden to one person and sim perfectly capturing momentum and inertia to another.

If you struggling with through passes try playing around with your defensive line and try not to push your CBs out when they have a striker running on their shoulder and a midifielder running with the ball in the zone between where your midfield should be and you defense. Lots of people fall for that in real life too. You will get caught out time and again.

I find covering channels and defending backwards rather than trying to win the ball back as quickly as possible is the better approach. Inevtiably you bite down press R1 and x snarling at the screen and the opposition steps you and send a throughball to the unattended striker to stroke home.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Does the low manual shot, pressing triangle / Y after shoot button also work to get a low non manual shot?

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Erm yes as does the R2 curler. I must double check as there are too many things happening that you need to concentrate on. You end up getting a goalscoring position and sticking to what you know cos they are few and far on this frecking 5min demo. It really is a piss poor way of giving a feel for a game with only 5 minutes. Might also be responsible for the ambiguity on how it is.
