PES 2013 Discussion Thread

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

I've tried using the manual modifier for crossing. A lot. I just can't master it. Seems like a walk in the park for Konami to add the option for manual crossing without L2, can't understand why they wont.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Honestly the more I use manual shooting, the more I think it's entirely too effective, becoming almost a bit blasé about all these amazing volleys and top corner strikes. Just played terribly vs Arsenal, dominated possession but defended badly and went down 3 goals to nil, so with no time left I decided to shoot from kick off manually... and it went in, cue Essien making an awfully long run to collect the ball from the net.

Problem is, now I've played with manual shooting I can't bare the lack of freedom with assisted shooting.

That is terrible. I never liked manual shooting after the first few shots, its too much like FIFA. I would rather have stat based shooting that limits freedom than have 100% accurate shots based on the direction of a stick.

This. I never used manual shooting.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Tbh me either, I am sturggling to enjoy the manual shooting and prefer the 1 assist play as well as the ball pace feels for consistent. Need to put in the hard yards though.

@wilko that's crazy mate LOL well done though, I couldn't hit a bran door on manual

well good to know you gave it a proper try... :SMUG:

im pretty sure stats are still involved. on manual it feels a lot easier shooting with ronaldo than john terry, so theres definetely something at work there.

also, i think most people would want a balance between stat/freedom shooting, and right now manual shooting is much closer to that reality than assisted.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Not a fan of manual shooting myself. Gave it a good try but shooting feels more correct when assisted. I think the assisted shooting in this game is pretty good really. I feel as though I can put the ball where I want.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

@Xavi

As awful as ever.. ? :OOOH: lol what demo you play ?

Positioning is awful thanks mostly to PES's scripting.
Let me give you a few example:

• When a player passes the ball to a teammate, the defender near the receiver backs 3 meters to let him receive confortably, and then engages.
• Defensive positioning is non existent: teams defend according to their stationary original tactical formation. Your team's defensive distribution should be based on where the opponent's players are.
• You figure out the rest..

Sadly for a few of us, this is a design decision. Konami doesn't want to comit with simulation, they are happy with the game being an arcade with enough features to imitate a simulation. Unfortunately, FIFA is worst at this, so I choose PES.

+1 assisted shooting is absolutely lovely this year. Maybe a touch too effective I feel, but infinitely better then 2012.

Just tried the demo out on my new PC and it's pure sex. Cannot wait to sink my teeth into MLO/ML.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Overall, the game has good feedback, I can say that ...I like the game too , but there is a BUT :) Any game when i play vs CPU , superstar level , my defenders make one or two penalty on the match! Almost every match ! I just stay there, even do not press the any button , but.. my A.I defender make fault, or opponent attacker just fall down and.. ref give the penalty shot.

Realistically, I think about it, all the goals that CPU have made vs me on this difficulty are penalty shoots ... ! I do not pretend that I played the demo a lot, I'm is still waiting preview code that I was promised me last week, to start serious play on PES 2013, but the dozen games that , I have noticed some problems that can break my nerves in the future . And.. the game is just of box to the box, midfield play is just a joke . The ball is to easy cross the field , just one , two passes, some runs and.. done.

Did you try turn off CPU tackling assist?

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Yep - agree with the other lads that assisted shooting seems really good this year. A lot of confidence to be had when going 1 v 1, unlike PES 2012.

Regarding that manual shot from halfway - how many have you scored and after how many attempts? If you can score them at will, it's 1 thing, but players sometimes do have a crack from kick off...yours was actually a couple of metres inside the circle and the keeper was off his line. As long as it's not too regular, I wouldn't think it's a huge problem.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

More I play this demo the more I'm noticing how it feels on rails again... does anyone else have a problem where you move the stick in a direction, let go, and the player keeps jogging and then stops? its not like an instant stop of movement....it should be pretty instant, but it isnt :(

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

I use the button to stop and face the goals (I think it's R2?). That always stops on the spot when I'm jogging or dribbling.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

Did you try turn off CPU tackling assist?

Yeah ! I always turn off , but if you try to use second defender options with shot button , this is happen .Even if you just track the attacking players, with D-pad, Left analog and he try shot, your defender automatic make tackle . Maybe we must learn how to play the game, i don't know ,but it's need a bit more balance .

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

I don't know, I think football games at the moment are just not ticking all my boxes.

Going forward from the player point of view, the game is very good. There is a noticeable midfield difference from 2012, with the CPU ensuring that passing lanes are closed, but the human can create angles with deft movements to open up attacking moves. This is excellent. On the PC version with Jenkey's etc, the game looks gorgeous in the day. Absolutely gorgeous. Night games look okay too, on the PS3 demo, the game looks a horror show. It's getting to the point where I just can't accept these night time colours any more, more on the PS3, it's just unacceptable and the game is made to look awful.

On the PC passing feels excellent, and the trajectories. Shooting is now too powerful and too accurate with the top players, especially long rangers. But generally shooting is improved in terms of trajectories.

Now the big problem. CPU build up play and AI. Whilst the human has one set of rules that govern how the game is played, the CPU have a totally different set of rules, with the skill levels basically dictating how direct the CPU will look to hit you down the centre. Their attack patterns are like Under 12's football, plough down the middle dribbling all the time. Or your CB will run a different way from the striker ala FIFA to create the CPU 'through ball'. This spoils the game entirely.

It's this ridiculous imbalance that now sees possession stats skewed even more than 2012 with me having generally 70-75% of the game. This is a game breaker in my book. An example would be Ibrahimovic losing the ball FOUR consecutive times in the space of about 30 seconds to lone dribbling.

Listen, I learned to love 2011, 2012, and I'll no doubt learn to love 2013. But there are just too many imbalances in the game now for me, in the year 2012, to keep me frustrated that we are still seemingly as far away from a true football simulation as ever. PES checks many things that FIFA doesn't and vice-versa. But ultimately they are still both so far away in my eyes.

I think it was Henry's Hand that has been on here highlighting the urgent need for a workable and tangible stamina system. Both for the CPU and player. A system that would see flow and then lulls in the game. PES is simulation in many ways (first touch, control of players, player individuality etc) but is arcade in another way with every CPU player to a man, driving forward as their first thought as soon as they get possession.

It's this total lack of CPU spacial understanding and reasoning that pushes the game to arcade territory. Their fearless pursuit of opting to go forward at all costs is PES' downfall I fear.

I don't know fellas, may be I'm just getting too old and too demanding and an expecting way too much than what football games can offer.

Is there a release date for demo 2 yet?

Just sold my pes12 on eBay. I won't be playing that again after the beauty that is pes13

No way you are getting old or become too demanting. This is total BS. You are very right and just and i would like to believe that 90 % of football game players are aware of those deficiencies. Only way to fight this situation is to become a "very hard" buyer. I myself decided to wait like two or three weeks until i become absolutely sure that what i am looking for is close to flawless. I am interested mostly in multiplayer and offcourse Fifa Clubs is my favorite part and i see great potential there. But i have to be sure that 90% of the niggles of Fifa 12 has been adressed.

Smart buying is the way to go if we want to see progress on football games. Companies have no excuse to present half-done games or even modes. For example i wouldn't be troubled if Carrer Mode sucks if Clubs were where it should be in the priority list because i play Clubs and multiplayer online and thats what i care about. Maybe its time for companies to decide what "real" players care about and not how can we impress them the most. Gamers have grown up . Its 2012.

Re: PES 2013 Discussion Thread .......

companies still have to make money at the end of the day... not all players want super simulation style game... ive been watching these PES gamescon videos where they ask question and have a few gamers play pes 2013...every single player was still using the fricking D PAD! quite sad.... but point is if they change one thing (e.g. full analogue control for player movement) then it may completely isolate another group...

Even after doing so much work on the PS3, I walked away from it because of how utterly shit the game looks at night. It spoils the master league and any cup competitions as you cannot pick time of day or stadium in them

I don't know if it's an affect of it looking bad, but the animation looks worse and players seem to move less fluid at night.

Not all stadiums look as awful and some you can put up with, but others are shocking. I set about editing the worst out of the game, but you cannot get rid of some as they are default stadiums which cannot be changed.

On the PC I went right through the turfs and found the best and switched the night and rain turfs for day turfs without patterns and made the game look great. It's infuriating as this game could look like a next generation game if only someone interested in making it look beautiful was put in charge of turfs.

I switched back to PS3 in the end and I am now loving it with most of the stadiums changed to ones that look decent at night.

I have taken every opportunity konami offer for feedback to send them clips of the game edited and urged them to sort it out or offer some kind of unlock which allows you pick the time and stadium of games in the master league.

Totally agree mate - 100%
The night matches on a majority of PES stadiums are horrific.
complete lack of fluidity and response and washed out, bleached, dull drab colours.
I have resorted to bumping the colour/contrast and hue levels on my Tv right up to compensate for this, so now its a much more vivid, brighter, realistic look, but flipside is thaose settings then apply to every game used on that channel. Not good.

Chimps - will you be looking to put together an Option file for PES13?
