At least during my games, the AI has only scored one of its free kicks. So I can't share that complaint that some others have. I did notice that there's a few more opportunities to play quick free kicks on the demo. Did anyone else notice that?

Yeah, and quick-free kicks is working better than last year version both from me or by cpu ai.. CPU FK is also okay from my playing times.. it's like only 30-40% fo the time they score from overall CPU ai's FK. They can miss completely, hit the bar, wall, or get parried by GK..

I had an experience moving the GK manually from left to middle, in order to handle regular cpu ai's top right corner. Indeed, the cpu eventually kicks the ball to the left top corner.. lol

I've played around 40 games I guess and have yet to concede a goal through a freekick. It seems people still don't know about manually moving the keeper, although it has been mentioned many times.

One thing that I've hardly seen mentioned is penalties. The whole penalty system is too basic for my liking but just about passable in single player mode.
However, I played local multiplayer a few nights ago and an obvious issue arose. Do Konami not see the problem with having a FRIGGIN powerbar telling the whole world whether you are about to shoot high or low?

Well it's good that it doesn't work every time, otherwise it would be an exploit, but it certainly reduces freekick goals conceded to an acceptable level.

Freekicks were too effective in 2012, not sure about this year yet. Direct freekick goals IRL are pretty rare, Spurs have scored I think 2 in the last 2 seasons, I think there was 1 scored at Euro 2012 and none at EURO 2008 etc

Wow that is diabolical. Are you using a patch?

I must say I am getting a lot less stupid little things now that I am only using cabrys demo unlocker and not any of the patches.

Just beat Italy with ze gerrrmans phew they have a potent defence.

No, no patches, it's the 360 demo :(

How do you move the goalkeeper on free kicks?

Hold L1 then click the right or left analogue stick (can't remember which one, comes naturally when playing). A cursor will appear over the GK and you can move him to a desired position. On some occasions, for whatever reason, you can select the GK but it wont let you move him, but more often than not you will be able to move him. Remember to de-select (same method as select) the GK before the freekick is taken though, otherwise you will still be in control when it comes to diving and trying to save the kick.

No disrespect meant with this post.

But I mean this is player switching I should be gnashing my teeth when I want to pass to someone or defend and its picking the wrong player. I use the right analogue stick very seldom too.

Can you select the keeper in open play to make saves? Used to do that all the time on PS2 with good success.

Thanks for the info about moving the Keeper during Freekicks. Might help me stop conceding cheap goals from freekicks.

Yes, yes you can. Just tried it for fun. Switched to player cam and had a few games playing mainly as keeper. Managed a great save from a Ronaldinho freekick but conceded to a Balotelli header after coming a little too far off my line for a cross.

Oh, and it's L1 + R3 (click right analgue)

Yeh thanks for the tip about manual keeper control. I didn't realise you could position him for freekicks manually and then give back control before the kick is taken.

Absolutely freaking love the sliding in this PES. It's quick and responsive, surprised no ones mentioned this. In PES2012 the game took half a second to dive into a tackle and usually when it was far too late.


I did. :)

The tackling also seems better, with more drive and weight to the sliding tackle in particular. .

The tackling also seem more clever. I had a sliding tackle kind of from behind where the player wrapped his leg around the ball. Like a classic sliding tackle from Glenn Hysén. Never had that in 2012.

Collision detection is still dodgy though, but I suppose that's not entirely unexpected.

Yeah for the most part. Love how quickly the players get up with the ball though. Defenders dream that to tackle and get up with the ball at your feet.

Ugh, the PES Edit patch doesn't inspire me with confidence. On top of that, the game feels weird on PC. May be the PS3 controller, but whatever.
Vanilla demo on 360 seems to look much nicer and more realistic.

The PES Edit patch makes the game look like 2012. Jerky and fast animations, weird stuff going on.

PESEdit patches always seem to run a bit different to the vanilla game. Retail PESEdit patches alter stats, not sure about the demo. I'm using that patch (among others) and last night I decided to bump the game speed up to +1. Seems to suit the PESEdit patch perfectly. And no, the 360/PS3 version of PES does not have better visuals than the PC version.

Did you adjust the LOD configuration in the unlock folder? I'd also recommend enabling blur (as all these patches disable it) by going to the unlock file and setting blur to 0. I know a lot of people dislike blur, but I think the game looks too artificial with it turned off. Personal preference. Either way, it looks fantastic on the PC.

I wasn't aware they'd touched gameplay at all. I use Jenkey's patch and the game is playing wonderfully.

Any jerkiness for me comes in the fact that players can't move slowly enough. Iron that part out and the game will look a lot better. I probably sound like a broken record, but having a wider range of speed is really necessary.

The game plays really well when you're in the flow of it, playing at that pace the game sort of forces you to play. But when you try to slow it down things can get a little messy in terms of the poor slow jog animation, the jerky movements, etc.

They need to change what the analog stick actually does, it doesn't feel pressure sensitive at all. If I move it a little or fully in one direction, without touching sprint, the player moves at the same speed. It defeats the purpose of a stick when it doesn't affect your speed, but only your direction. You may as well be using a d-pad.

The other issue, and less so, is the need to increase the burst of speed for an all out sprint. It's in the game, I've seen it on an off the ball animation.

Graphically, my game looks fantastic on PC. Tweaked the lod settings on Jenkey's tool this morning and it looked even nicer. I certainly wouldn't complain about graphics on PC, they are definitely superior to what's achieved on console and are the best I've seen yet in any football game.

I still think the could be more tackle animations, and foul animations. The stupid foul where the player goes forward and lands on his arse is well Expired. I'd like to see 2 foot tackles rewarded with a straight red. Come on Konami get in!

I'm talking about framerate consistency and how the animations play out. Obviously the game looks better on PC. It looks more realistic on 360, that's all.

Edit, I think this had to do with resolution. I'm playing at 1920 on PC and the game runs much lower than that on consoles, so a lot of imperfections are hidden. The higher the resolutions is, the more you notice how outdated the game looks.

Right well this sort of thing definitely has to be sorted before release. What the shit is going on here?

I'm in control of the CB, marking the forward and holding my position, only for the game to take away control of him for someone else further away from the ball, then the CPU actively makes the defender run away from the ball and the marker. The game just plain awarded itself a goal by making the opposition players run away from the play. Absolutely ludicrous.

Haha, yea, I had the same thing. But additionally what about thing that I can shoot from any place, defenders are near me and I can just shoot easily whit perfect shoot of course, even if he want to jump on me - wow real football :P. Why shoots are so perfect.

Does anyone else play this in 480p, or is it just me? I like this one in 720p, and could keep it that way, but after trying it in 480p i just can´t go back...it´s silky smooth gameplay...

I think that's true for most PES games this generation. I tried 2010 at 480p and it was pretty decent.

try the vietnamese patch, those guys know their job

Maybe it's just placebo, but somehow it seems to me that animations may be a bit faster and 'jerkier' with disabled blur during the match. Sounds silly, but can it be that this ugly blur is there for one more reason - to make CPU/GPU busy enough not to play animations too fast??

Y-throughball is most of the time scripted, ie. defenders automatically know what you press and calculate the trajectory immediately and can therefore easily catch it.


The only situations normal throughball works is when the defender is very close to you and can't possibly intercept the throughball.

It's better to use manual passing as a replacement for the throughball.
