PES 2012 Football Life thread

How do you line up with these tactics? What formation? Is it two strikers with such high support? Player support at 14 makes me nervous; do you play two DMFs to help out in the back therefore? What is your idea with the zero player switch? I suspect with player support so high you might be trying to keep things sane in the back...

I play with 3 CB's and two slightly advanced full backs, I have inler and donadel in midfield(good ball winners) and hamsik plays just in front of them with lavezzi and cavani as the front two. This is my perfect formation and has propelled me within touching distance of qualifying for the champions league.

This formation allows me to attack as a team and defend as a team, 14 player support sounds like quite a lot but I have numbers all over the pitch and I keep attack level at two bars so I have numbers back and can counter attack.I use 0 position switch for defensive reasons, I like my teams to keep their shape. The advanced full backs offer me an attacking out ball whilst allowing me to keep numbers at the back. I also make sure one of my midfielders man marks the cpu's playmaker if they are using one.

With 4 games to go currently lie in 4th only 1 point of 3rd and 2nd placed teams(tight at the top) my best season by far on superstar.

Great news! Best of luck the rest of the way. I don't know, makes me want to try 3 in the back with two wingbacks. Are you lucky enough to have "offensive sideback" cards for your players. I would have thought that Zuniga or Maggio might have them. It would seem weird to try that in the Dutch league, though.

I have had a rather sideways season with Ajax. I went on a tear before the transfer window, undefeated in 11 games (5 draws in that) but now I'm on only 5 points in my last 7 games. Teamwork and morale are bruised badly and our offense is without confidence. No set-piece goals in those 7 games. There is no chance of any European competition for us this year so I may start to play the younger players and see what they are good at (and bad at, for that matter). I've got to spend wisely at the end of the season. I'm looking all the time in my scout's list of targets for a couple of box-to-box type or enforcer types. The CPU seems to just blow by my midfield sometimes. Still, I would say that as my second go round with ML on superstar I am enjoying this much more that previously. I was once ready to trade in the game but now I've got a handle on it. Next season Ajax will rule!

Havent posted here in ages, anyway im playing with Liverpool in my second second season on superstar with 0 bars, currently second in the league in January. Its fustrating at times but really good when evthing clicks.

Missed out on the CL but finsihed 5th with napoli to cap a great season on supersatar, finally the game has clicked for me when I'm not playing it I'm thinking about playing it which is always a good sign. Got complacent for the last couple of games which is irritating considering how hard its been to get used to superstar however next season confident about challenging for the title(awaits 11th place finish:LOL:) but finally the game has clicked for me, just a shame aspects of the game are held back due to lazy programming and bizarre design choices.

Looking to bring in another CB for my three man defence, cannavaro and britos have been immense but aronica is showing his age and zambrano is still inexperienced for regular serie a football, any suggestions would be welcome. Otamendi would be perfect but porto understandably won't sell.

Christ, the transfer mechanism really is awkward. You know, despite all the flashy cut-scenes, I really think the ML has gone backwards in the last couple of years. The exclusion of a Play-Off system, individual training, off-season training challenges, comprehensive scouting system, match exp. based development.....

Instead we've now got an utterly repetitive pre-match/post-match cutscene, and an nagging animation everytime we drop a player.

Rant aside, I secured promotion and played my first couple of D1 matches. Brought in Paloschi and Kightly on frees, and some young Polish shithouse on loan. Really chuffed with all of them so far.

Unfortunately I lost both my two key men (Toure & Shimizu) to injury before the season had even started, leading to an utterly dismal opening match with defeat to the D2 winners of last year.

The following week I shocked Roma in the scrappiest win imaginable, the decisive goal came courtesy of Paloschi's right knee from a scuffed shot by Zarate. He has the Goal Poacher card and a high response stat so is sharp as fuck, constantly pulling off the last man and forever alert.

Good stuff Danny. One thing I miss from PES 2011 is that I played MLO a lot and subsequently really took notice of who had which player cards. I haven't really paid that much attention in my first season of ML offline but will have to at the next transfer window.

Well, well, well.......... Would you Adam and Eve it, the Chairman is only loving me right now, and rightfully so.

During the close season, I had a some great offers for some of my better players. Reece Williams, who has been groomed fantastically well in the Technique department since Day 1, started to draw interest from a few of Europes elite. His age and 86 OVR for a DMF certainly had something to do with that. Anyway, an offer of just over £7 million pounds came in, so I reluctantly cashed in. I do have Matty Bates who is very similiar to Reece, and the money was too good to turn down.

I then sold Souprayen, the French LB I bought last season. He was actually, on paper, my Player of the Season last year, but a £2.5 million offer couldnt be sniffed at, especially as I have excellent cover in his position, and the fact I only paid £680,000 for him originally.

I then cashed-in on Tamudo, who has been brilliant for me, scoring some truly spectacular goals, but at 36 years old, £1.2 million was too good to turn down.

I also had an offer for my goalkeeper, Jason Steele. Liverpool offered me a whopping £9.2 million, but I couldnt secure another decent keeper so I had to turn it down. Steele has benefitted massively from my Technique training over the last 4 years, and has Goalkeeping Skills of 91 and Responsiveness of 90. He truly is one hell of a keeper, that really has improved leaps and bounds over the last season. In fact, he recently got his first England call-up, and he has been instrumental in Boro's incredible start to this new campaign.

I promoted about 6 Youth Team players, mostly with ratings between 65-69 OVR, but with Box-to-Box and Enforcer Player Cards. They all look to have a bright future.

My major signing though, has already became a 'God' at the Riverside. Oliver Giroud, a CF from Montpellier, with an OVR of 84 but stats for Body-Balance, Dribbling, Shot Power and Shot Accuracy all in the very high 80's- has been nothing short of a revelation. He has scored in every game so far, and currently has 13 goals in 10 games. Boro are sitting at the top of the Championship with a record of played 10, Won 8, Drawn 2. His partnership with Emnes (83 OVR) is spectacular, and he is the missing link to the puzzle.

Giroud loves R2, and he is an absolute pleasure to control in the dribbling department. He is a left-footer, but his balance is incredible, his feet are so quick, and he does things that I have not seen any player do in PES 2012. He is the messiah. Utd may have had Cantona, but we have Giroud.

These next two video's highlight everything about this very special player.

These are actually the last two games I've played, with the first being the first time the Boro fans had witnessed any Boro player scoring a Hat-Trick. The match was against Cardiff at home. Cardiff scored first from close range, Giroud then equalised after some brilliant movement off the ball saw him in space, a super-quick R2 turn bought him 3 yards, then an R2 finish into the near corner leveled the tie. Giroud then made it two when a Wellens pass picked him out, he created space beautifully again with R2 before another R2 finish into the bottom corner.

Cardiff then equalised late on to level the match, and it looked like the points would be shared, but someone forgot to give Giroud a copy of the script. A foul on the edge of the box in injury time gave Boro and Giroud one last chance. Giroud stepped up, and bent one into the top corner to secure all 3 points, his Hat-Trick, and his legendary early status at the Riverside. Wow, are you kidding me. :WOOT:

YouTube - Boro 3-2 Cardiff

The next game was all about Giroud's cool finishing as he scored both goals as Boro beat Brighton away 2-0. Emnes picked out Giroud with a superbly weighted through-ball over the top, and the Frenchman showed his cool class with a cheeky dink. 1-0. He then made it two, after a beautiful one-two volley-give-and-go, saw him link up with Emnes again before another cheeky finish doubled his tally. If you check the Highlights, you'll see Giroud came agonisingly close to a consecutive Hat-Trick after a truly audacious effort (L1 Long-Range Lob), just couldnt bend in enough at the last minute. What a goal that would have been by the way ......

Whats your budget like Jimmy?

I've noticed it's a lot more stringent financially then past games, initially I spent a couple million in the window, not paying attention to wages, and soon found out I'd pretty much bankrupted the club.

So I worked how much I could spend to break-even and re-loaded to the start of the window again. Highest fee I paid was £300k for a season-long loan, then the rest was frees. Think the highest wage at the moment is Paloschi on about £600k. I've got about a million left over, but that would only get me a semi-decent player when you factor in wages + fee, so I'ma save up for someone really supreme.

I actually have Giroud on my shortlist, but I've quickly realised he, along with 95% are well out of the club's reach as it stands. :P

Oh, and I got tonked 6-0 by AC Milan last night. Honestly no idea how. Even had more possession at the end of the game!

My season with Ajax has come to a whimpering conclusion. We did have a great run of games mid-way through the season but then the wheels just came flying off. I could never get teamwork and morale back, it was all draws at home and losses away and I think in the last 4 or 5 games I wouldn't get even a single red arrow (even for the home games). We ended up ninth. I've been spending the last day thinking up various strategies for the offseason: first, I've got to work on Physical and Tactics (we're a pretty wiry, thin bunch that gets knocked off the ball too much and we've made very few set-piece goals). That's got to change. Second: I've got to do something about my sidebacks. Previously I was so excited to see that my RB had the offensive sideback card and he did produce some wonderful offensive moments. But 9 times out of 10 he was completely out of position on defense and cost the team plenty of goals. He has a rating of 84 with very high market value. I'm thinking of trading him for what I suspect will be 10-12 million and bringing in two especially defensive SBs. My LSB has high defensive awareness and he still overlaps just enough times in a game to give me that extra option. But the offensive sideback card is killing me right now. Perhaps when I can trust my CBs a bit more and bring in an "anchor" DMF I might look for one again. But right now, he's got to go. Also, its hard for me to say as a Ajax fan, but Vermeer may just not be good enough in goal for the ambitions I have for this team. I've got to keep a look out. And finally, I need a CF with very high body balance, someone who can hold the ball up in the box for just a split second or two, and lay it off; someone who can chest the ball down and create his own offensive moment. Giroud is on my list of targets too, but I doubt I can afford him after I shore up my SB issues. I hope so, though.

I only sold Tamudo and Williams to balance the books originally, but now I have £4.5 million in the bank after paying up the seasons wage bill in full. Normally I don't have a penny to scratch my arse with, so I feel very flush. It's just almost impossible to sign anyone. I got Giroud on a Bosman, so didn't pay a penny. I think he's on 700k a season but he's earnt that already. Great, great player.

Couple of nice goals there Jimmy, that L1 long range effort at the end would have been special.
Some of the animations for those goals though did look horrible. Ive been playing a bit of FIFA lately and whilst i still think PES is better core gameplay wise, after gettinbg used to FIFA's far superior animations, watching those PES clips brough home just how much work Konami need to do.
The R2 finesse shot animation in particular is abysmal.

@ Danny - Your right, Master League this year is crap compared to what we've had previously. The player talks cutscenes etc are poorly implemented, repetitive and unrealistic.

I know but is it ? I don't think it is. And like I have mentioned before, there isn't really many ways to animate that particular technique. It is what it is. Funnily enough, I was watching a pre-recorded Match of the Day the other night, and the exact same animation and technique was attempted. It was perfect to how PES does it. I sure wish there were more variation, but the bottom-line is, what is the other technique for that 'placer' with the instep ? Someone please enlighten me ? :CONFUSE:

Also, in another match, I saw Yakubu attempt a long-range L1 Chip from a standing position, where he had to dig it out. It perfectly illustrated what I was talking about with regards Petrov's style of technique, right down the trajectory and flight of the ball.

finished my season in 3rd, very happy with that considering not only its on superstar but i lost gerrard and downing on frees before the season even started. Got Armero and Jakub Błaszczykowski on frees, really happy about that.Started my 3rd season with a 3-0 win over leicester. Anyway anyone know if you can turn club management on or did i miss my chance to do it.

Jimmy - I never thought for one second that you'd do anything other than disagree and defend PES. ;-)
the odd animation for R2 might look appropriate but the majority look shit!
Its like the ball just teleports off the players foot, this DOES NOT happen in actual football.
even a stab control shot has to have some swing for the players foot to connect to the ball and have enough inertia and momentum to propel the ball.
In PES alot of the time the foot doesnt even move, the ball just flies off a stationary limb.

If you think PES animations on the whole are good, then seriously, you are easy pleased.

And the Johnson curler example vid was a bad example as Johnson curled it with his left foot, he was 'in stride' and had to take that stride which resulted in his left foot being placed for and performing the shot in one movement.

How many times have you seen this type of shot in PES ?

http://youtu.be/jDElYLTV4Os

NONE. Thats a perfect controlled shot where Henry wraps his foot around the ball with swing and follow through, in PES it would just fly away from his instep.

NB: please note in my original post i did say that I still consider PES the better core game, but needs alot of work aestheatically

I'm not comparing games, all I'm saying is for that 'Finesse' R2 curled shot, what other technique is there ? Show me ?

Also, since when have I ever stated PES had state of the art animations ? I'm quite sure I've always asked for more variation, even suggesting what type of relevant animation is required. See the Petrov discussion with Nerf.

My point being, for that type of instep curler when moving with the ball, there is only one technique, which PES actually does well from a technical reproduction. Sure it could be smoother, but the technique and theory is spot on. If you can show me another way to come across the ball like that, then I'm all ears bud.

That is a great strike by Henry, and your right that is a variation I'd love to see from a strike that your coming back upon yourself. That strike wasnt square, but it would be nice to see that option. I'm not even sure how it would pan out on PES shooting like that to be honest, I've only ever hit them square and diagionally facing.

If you think PES animations on the whole are good, then seriously, you are easy pleased.

I think you probably have hit the nail on the head with that. The fact that I never play the likes of Fifa, probably does leave me more than satisfied with what PES offers. I dont know anything else, which leaves me happy with what I see. And it is one of the reasons I dont play Fifa if I'm honest.

This game is hard, I tell you that much. Got back from a game last night where my team (Adelaide United) got crucified by the ref and decided to put on a couple of games of Master League. First game I really focused on defending well and I cut out a lot of their build up options and it felt like I was really out there defending. Just had that lovely rewarding feeling when your team's shape is well maintained. Had a plan and stuck to it.

Pre-match whiteboard in the second game and I'm told the opposition will not look to attack much and play a quick counter style. They were coming at me everywhere and before I knew it had me pinned back at 3-0. Tried my 4 different tactic slots and then into the game plan to change things up. But nothing...and I copped another 2 goals lol.

:RANT::RANT::SHOCK:

Ive gone back to PES12. I was enjoying FIFA but never intended to be playing FIFA just yet, it was niggling at me that I hadnt reached a natural resting point with PES, in fact i was mid-season in season 12.
I resumed last night and found it amazing how quickly i re-adapted. When I started playing FIFA a few days back, even after 10+ continuous games i was still readjusting to things, but 1 match in PES last night and it was as if id never been away. 0-0 draw at Spurs, a 5-1 Thumping of Villa at Villa Park (Saha Hat-trick), a 3-1 demolition of Newcastle at Home, then a 1-0 win against Chelsea at the bridge, even with half my first team missing due to international fatigue, pulled me level on points with them for the 4th Champions League place. Just come out of the Jauary transfer window where I signed a new CMF/DMF called Badu – 86OVR and a real powerhouse, Essien style, gave him a cameo debut appearance against Chelsea, bringing him on in the 78th Minute, he looks to be a right player!

Also my training routines are paying off, every discipline is B rated now, and in the 80s except attack which is 78.

Jimmy - I checked my list of targets in the Jan transfer window and low and behold, guess who was there ........ Giroud!
In my ML though hes 33, i attempted to sign him on loan for a season but he declined, i guess he was after 1 last big pay day!!!

He is 28 years old on my ML, which I'm very happy with, as I'll have at least a good 5 years out of him yet. Which is great, as that level of striker with my budget and history is worth his weight in gold. :)

I was tempted to put in a solid cash offer and get 1 year out of him but at 33 he was valued at 6mil - wasnt prepared to stump up that much cash.

Also attempted a maxed out long range L1 shot last night for the first time ever, after seeing yours ...... just buzzed wide of the far post, didnt have enough arc on it to bring it inside the post.

I'm guessing it was more like the side-on Giroud effort then rather than the straight on Petrov goal ?

Also, anyone looking for a cheap Essien type player, have a look at M.Rabiu from Ghana, he has been amazing for me in the withdrawn CMF role. With the Enforcer and Box-to-Box Player Cards and thunder in his boots, he really is the all-round package for a midfielder.

It was central but slightly off center so was an outside of the foot L1 long ranger curling chip, looked good but the player performing it, Hellebuyk (Promoted from youths) is more of a smash em than bend em kinda player, his curl stats arent great nor are his technique.

Just started playing offline ML for the first time since buying the game. I wanted to start with an ordinary team so went with Atalanta. Getting addicted to it currently, the CPU provides a real challenge and I like it.

I have a question though, where can I see where my players are progressing? I get a message from my coach about overall team rating changes but I want to see which players have improved and which attributes etc.

You basically just need to check each players stats after the Coach has informed you of the changes in each area. Every player will improve at different rates, depending on their natural skill-set and age.

wtf, i changed my master league money using a tool and added like 500,000 now my expected earnings were 0 and the board are telling me i to cut down on staff as they can't afford things. i then played a match and now it is 98,000 but their still complaining. Is it a bug or what, im confused ???

Lol, that'll teach you for fiddling the accounts :P

There's a graph on the player screen mapping Overall fluctuations over time, but nothing that tracks individual stats any more.

I think we should start a campaign to bring back the Hexagon for PES 13. Gave a much quicker and better an impression of a player than the Ovrl stat.

lool i had to pes riped me off without knowing.

i bought a player for 560,000 and he was 31. a day after i sign him he says thats he's gonna retire a the end of the season !!

and weird thing is when saw his stats n stuff before, there was no talk of retirement at all.
so i added 460,000 to my money and pretended like a got him on load for 100,000 which is fair.
