PES 2012 Discussion Thread .......

You know that is a great gameplay video and i'm the last person to use positive hyperbole lightly. It highlights what they've introduced very well and because of this i hope to see such videos/instructions in the actual game release in order to instruct new players/those underaware about these tactical AI decisions that such things are taking place. Quite frankly many would probably bypass such belief having had endured football games whereby the AI is lacklustre at best. If they're coming from PES 2010 they might grasp it because it felt evident change was coming but more so aimed at fifa fans who, in my experience at least, take everything on face value and nothing more.

I'm still hella concerned about keeper animations though. If they haven't time to work on the animations then i atleast hope they allow for more intelligent saves (i.e pushing the ball away from goal rather than back into the middle a la PES 2010. That would most definitely suffice.

It's clear these videos are aimed at serious football fans. No bells or whistles, just purely highlighting tactical enhancements which, if they work well, will keep us playing PES2012 long after the sheen wears off the other game.

Well done Konami. Any true football fan should welcome this approach to promoting your game.

:WORSHIP:

Completely agree.

Damn right Jamez.

Like you the majority, I feel rather positive and excited about the game.I know it's one thing Murphy directly mentioned in the video but I really hope they find the best possible balance between the attacking and defending A.I.

I loved the Benzema goal in the "diagonal runs" video. The pass, the run and the finish all looked so realistic.

Now I can't wait for next week to see what else is in store.

I would still like to see some proper gameplay videos but I guess Gamescom will be the time for that.

I think the problem is that, like Jon said on twitter, these videos are from the presentations they did to the press @E3. So they were already done before E3. So I'm not completely sure if the changes that supposedly were done to the E3 code regarding keepers are in these vids or not. At least I hope not. Something worth asking him me thinks.

There's another video coming on the 20th, not sure if it's about gameplay but if it is I hope they show keeper and shooting improvements on it.

I said yesterday the code shown for me is irrelevant as we are HOPING for sweeping changes here and there. Just tweaks and a few functions for us to tweak are in. The video was 'old' as i criticized the bland visuals with the crowd etc.. yet in images they have shown to be hugely improved with crowds wearing the teams shirts!

Just how good will this monster be? I just cannot see Konami screwing this up!

Really happy with that, no BS straight to the point. Slightly worried about the missile accuracy of the off the ball passes.

I really hope that camera angle for the PES 12' is in the actual game.

That's true, personally I just need to get the news that the shooting problems are sorted and I'll be completely happy about what PES 2012 is going to be. Because I'm already 95% confident with the rest.

In the end time will tell how good the game really is. I think Konami themselves realized they've done a great work with PES 2012 and like I said last month or so, I think they're (or were until very recently) on a coding spree, adding, tweaking and improving stuff to make the game feel even more like a complete package. It's all that's missing really, PES 5/6 were so incredible feature full that we all get a fuzzy feeling inside when we think about it lol. It shouldn't be too hard for them to get everything back into the game. So the surprises everyone has been hinting about could be related to that.

After all this, I just hope they don't mess it up in the full game.

Personally very happy with things they've done this year. I'm sure that's only part of it but from what they've shown I do believe PES2012 will last longer than PES2011 in terms of replay value. The game is already deep as it is, but the changes made, the tweaks, how subtle they seem really shows how much KONAMI understand football.

Sure, animations aren't the best from the video but I didn't pay attention to it at all when I saw it first time.
Was too engrossed with tactical aspect of the game. :p

I personally love the off-the-ball control feature, doing set pieces will sure be a blast.

@Klash

Yup compared to 2011, I am so glad by the looks of it, "start-stop-start-stop" animation especially passing has been heavily tweaked for a positive result i.e more free-flowing feel. I can say "freezing time" is hardly to see anymore.

I really hope this is the case. I enjoyed PES 2011 to a degree but it was this jerky transitions between animations and the un-natural animations that killed the immersion at times that really irritated me.

I know there are more important things than animations but the second something looks unnatural in movement to the eye it begins to grind on me... I guess it's a bit of a pet hate I have.

In one video you see how a defender intercepts the ball, i can already imagine a quick counter attack being one of the possibilities ( YouTube - PES 2012 pure gameplay video and AI ) at 3:05. I love how the pace of game is noticeably better. one moment they are walking and another time it's a sudden dash.

The only awkward thing for me was the running animations, it's more about the arms to be honest the rest is pretty good. if they would fix the arms (and the commentary of course) it looks like the best football game ever. Hope we get a demo soon.

anyone noticing the much improved jostling between players? for some reason it looks more realistic compared to fifa, as if these players are heavy, as if you can feel they are fighting for the ball. KONAMI did a good job there.there.

..Ah football. That's more like it! Have to admit to getting more and more excited about PES. Whereas with FIFA nothing has gotten me interested, and even increasing my expectation that it will be poor, PES is slowly winning me over. It was close with 11 (loved the tactics and flow that matches had), but that little bit of extra polish for 12 could see me move back over again.

OMG PES2012
Terrible Animation + Unrealistic Ball Moving like PES2011

PES2012
It's not Football Simulation Game
It's just Arcade Game

OMG KONAMI

Is this sarcasm?

PES in all fairness I would say has felt more arcade-like in the past but this year was a step in the right direction and judging by the videos I've been watching of PES I would say that it's looking to be more of a simulation than FIFA by a far distance. I'd say all PES needs is the animations and a team play mode like Pro Club Championship on FIFA.

Both games have strengths and weaknesses, PES however seems to be more focused on capturing the essence and thinking mans part of the game.

I love the passing animation with the outside of the foot, at 2:19.

Maybe it's already common in 2011, but since I end up laying with Minanda & co., I doubt any of them has any "outside" of the foot - most of them have two left feet, and that's it... :P

Very good news. And i saw a few new passing animations, just great.

This off-the-ball movement changes the camera in FKs and CKs but doesn't mean that the cross will be like super assisted right?

BTW
It's ironic how Jon Murphy now openly criticizes the PES2011. He wasn't that critic one year ago, he can be doing the same with Pes 2012, just "hidding" its issues.

The videos did what they had to do and it was to show the improvements which were meant to be shown.
Many people are just hammering the videos for no apparent reason except that they want to do so.

I kinda liked the videos, but I'll wait for a proper GC footage or a later one, so i can make some sort of a conclusion...it's so hard not to point out those horrendous old gk animations which were in these videos, but i hope that KONAMI will really show us that they listened at GC, otherwise i don't know...

Just so hope the online experience matches what i've seen of the gameplay offline. We can have a cracking game offline but if online is not playable as pes5/6 were after a few teething problems then pes2012 will be another failure in what is becoming a long list of pes flops(pes2008,2009,2010,2011).

I'd think it is moderately super assisted - which in itself doesn't really mean much. It goes to your striker, but it also becomes predictable for the defenders.

Well, hindsight is always 20-20. I seriously doubt anyone is hiding anything on purpose. When PES2 came out I loved it - only when PES3 came out was I able to see the problems PES2 had, and so forth.

Cheers.

Didn't read the rest of your post but how i missed that ?

In defending what i feel that has been most lacking in football game these days (and unfortunetelty that incudes pes 2011) is a proper midfield defence positioning and reading the oponnent passes, and being smart and quick enough to anticipate and intercept the ball. I love it.

It seems that my defence style of using R2 (jockey) and covering spaces (reducing the oponent's alternatives of passing forward, forcing him to pass lateral or even backwards) will be finally more rewarding. Finally midfielders are capable of reading, anticipating and intercepting.:WORSHIP:

I'll read the rest of your post.It seems to be a good read as you touch in one aspect of the game that is VERY important for me.

This defending style makes the pace of the game very realistic, and it feels awesome when you intercept a pass in midfield area and try to counter.:BOP:

Good question, I was thinking about this and I'm sure it wii be stat-based. With the dead-ball specialists more likely to put it on a sixpence.
