PES 2012 Discussion Thread .......

Possibly, but to what? I couldn't see any players with any cards that resemble specialist passing, and you'd hope there'd be a few in Milan, Porto, Santos and Napoli....

Explosive power sounds more like Acceleration to me, which is otherwise missing. Incorporating them into one stat wouldn't work because of reasons I mentioned before, Agility and Dribble Acc. need to be separate to differentiate different type of players.

Yea I know that's what I thought, but when demoing WE 2012 the Japanese characters for Explosive power looks the same as the Japanese characters for Agility. That's why I said what I said.

Hmm..

Played a game at work :D
I'm liking it :D

- the AI is a step above for sure! much more incisive
- keepers punching the ball (don't remember seeing this in pes 2011)
- the animations are varied enough to remove the uncanny feeling of pes 2011 obviously not at FIFA levels
-

game is solid except the CPU AI is very good and player way overated.

When I see gatusso with skill on the ball and speed and control to beat 3-4 man and make a beauty pass , this is a WTF moment...

but the different touch motions and animation and the gameplay is superb

Has dribble accuracy been blended in with speed? Because of most of the Peñarol players handle the same as Neymar albeit with slower less frantic touches.

And they turn and react much slower too. And you deffo shouldn't sprint with some of them in Top Player, they give heavy touches on the ball and the CPU will snatch it for sure.

About the missing stats and cards, so which are they, Agility, Dribble accuracy, what else?

Konami screwed up with stats totally. More stats and player cards mean more individuality. More individuality means more realism. KONAMI strives for realism, right? Instead of adding more stats and cards, they remove them. Thats the way to go!

Aah the ball went out for a throw and instead of the thrower seemingly spawning with the ball, i saw Gattuso actually go over and pick it up :D
Also no more auto kick-off, cant tell you how stupid i looked sitting for at leasta minute waiting for the ball to move :/

This is a pic from the first database editor for PES 2012. All stats seem to be there. So that should mean they're either renamed or hidden. Will look into it to see which stats match what.

Uhm, PES was on Xbox since PES5, and PES5 and 6 is largely considered to be the best in the series, so that completely obliterates your point.

Uhm, no it doesn't. The vast majority of the work that went into making PES 5 what it was, was done in the preceding years. PES 3 in particular was the bedrock of 4-6. But as Konami stretched further and further out, to handhelds, they were spread more and more thinly. Eventually they had to produce a next-gen engine while working with so few people, and the whole thing imploded.

PES only started getting good again this year when they drastically changed how they coded for multiple platforms. I thought this was common knowledge which was why we all agreed on it. Evidently some people didn't get the memo...

Bad project management lead to shitty pes games over the last 4 years, loss of fanbase, and obviusly loss of sales, in fact PES 5 was almost 1:1 with fifa in sales.

the keepers are on another level of bad.

Awful.

Nearly every thing else is good if not very good.Feels like im playing against another human and the AI on my team plays well. The graphics need to be sharper though imo.

If everything is tightened up with far better keepers the gameplay this year will be very good

Gotta say im hugely dissapointed with the demo! Its just pes 2011 with better transition between the animations !! What a letdown

Firstly I'll say I'm overall positive about the demo. My comments will be negative though as I'm assuming that this demo can act as a pseudo beta and someone out there in Konami world can improve on some of these things!

- Dribbling seems TOO responsive now, especially in turning radii on the ball and such. One thing I loved about last year was how big the differences were when you were on the ball with a great dribbler vs. a bad one. The difference is still there, but not quite as distinct at the moment (though someone like Ibra becomes a world beater). I think the responsiveness needs to be toned down, as at some moments the dribbling reminded me a bit of the problems I had with FIFA

- Passing accuracy seems a little too good, especially when passing backwards or at awkward angles

- Where is shot technique and a agility!!!!!! Why would these be taken away?

- Could use more momentum in players on and off the ball

- Assuming that they have a lot more stat editing to do before final version... look at Chicharito!

- Super accurate/frequent scissor kicks are still present and need to go

Hopefully these things are being worked on/balanced, good to hear the goalkeepers have already been improved since this demo :)

Yea figured that as well from the Japanese demo, but still no sign of shot technique...

Like you guys guessed, at least atm, all defensive player cards are missing, as well as 3 stats, Acceleration, Shot Technique and Aggression. A shame really if they have completely removed these...

You sure Aggression isn't the Attack stat that goes 1-3? Because this is something new to me.

It seems like shot technique has been incorporated into some other stat. There's no way it's gone from the game. I think it's the same way with agility, which has been "integrated?" into explosive power.

Or maybe Acceleration and Agility have been merged into Explosive power, Shot Technique into the overall "Technique" stat, and Aggression into something else.

Either way, what's the reason for this? And also, a bunch of cards seem to be missing, defensive and GK's ones for example.

Lami was right judging by the editor picture. But that means Acceleration and Shot Tech. have disappeared, and there was no sign of the Passers card in the demo. Technique is now 'Ball Control' so I'm not sure.

I'm not having a pop since it's still a great game, but I'd be a little gutted if it was the case.

Uhm, PES 2012 didn't get made in a few months. For example, its AI engine I'm fairly sure had been in development a long long time, perhaps years, just not ready to be implemented until now. Also, PES didn't just start getting good again. PES 2008 and 2009 had the old engine, and PES2010 (released in 2009) was the first with a new improved engine, and was a vast improvement already then. PES2011 continued with what PES2010 started, and PES2012 is a continuation of 2011. It's not some sudden burst in quality due to restructuring.

Either way, it's a pointless discussion that otherwise just gets in the way of the important thing. Playing the game. ;)

and thats a fact

Well played 2 matches and my conclusion is;

Goodbye FIFA!

Obviously PES needs another year of polish to be at an acceptable next-gen level of graphics and animations, however the core game is football and you can tell football intelligence gets rewarded. And now, fortunately, the level of response and animations is good enough for me to move back, yay! It still has some issues, as mentioned in other posts (keepers, AI dribble strength, shooting), but its finally good again after 5 years!

I have noticed in players stats:
Aggression
Acceleration
Shot Technique
are all set to 0
I suppose because it's only a demo...
