PES 2011 Discussion thread

I apologise if I took it the wrong way. You are articulate, and subsequently clever with words, and I thought you were being pedantic. As for what EA can do, Pronounced individuality, varying first touch, and preferred feet is the bare minimum for a simulation starter. Again, I dont think EA need to do anything though, they own the market.

Jimmy please tell me how exacly ure doing tricks like in ur movie Joga Bonito. Like u did them using D'Alexandro.

I can't wait to see how it's changed in the last few years, I have barley touched it in that time given the hours I gave to WE Pre then...

Yeah cant fault you mate, if you can enjoy both games then more power to your elbow.

once you get back into the feel of pes you will remember what it was that has been missing since the ps2 years.

my only real valid tip i can give you is slow down & try not to sprint much, i aint telling you how to play its just that it took me a couple of games to pace myself. when that clicks you will feel like Don Juan on the ball.

So guys I have a question. It's been a long time since i've played pes and now i'm trying (and loving) it on ps3 but i can't get the feint combo's to work. So I've made a trick list where I put the roulette on right stick down. Now when I try this in game (L2 + right stick down) the player does a sideways dribble.. I'm probably doing something wrong but I can't figure it out :CONF:

I had the same problem at first until Tobi kindly worked it out and informed me. You need to press L1 and right stick for any you preset. :)

I set the ones I wanted to use in the Feint-Link menu, then pressed L1 and Right Stick in the relevant direction.

CPU chipped my keeper... I'm still humiliated. Oh and I just played Fifa, strangely enough what I miss the most from PES is the dribbling, you just can't move freely in that game without getting tackled or doing a barrage of tricks.

Thx mate works perfect now :WORSHIP:

Will someone anwser my damn question lol.

Will PES 11 have a sixth difficulty? that is what i heard?

I though the PK camera angle was returning too normal. Why is it still side on?

No it won't, only 5 according to Jon. Im sure Top Player will be more than hard enough if you use a lesser team. If that still doesn't give you a challenge, then you my friend are a fucking stud, and I will honour you till the day I die.

Oh Jimmy one more quick question :)) Is there a way to save these presets in the demo or do you have to adjust them everytime you restart the game?

Is top player harder than pes 2010 though? i played a game on professional last night round a mates house. The cpu blew hot and cold. Thats what they did on pes 2010 on top player. I just want a cpu thats relentless. CPU did score from 30 yards against me though that was imbarrasing lol. Jimmy didnt they say they returning the PK camera angle back to normal? I had a pen last night and its still side on. Im sure darth told me they was a 6th difficulty mode when he had the game.

Unfortunately not. I welcome the release day so I can save all my formations, tactics and strategies. It takes me 5 mins before each game just to set it all up. Ball-ache.

Edit - I read that the PK's were going back to the behind the player view, but I'm not sure that will happen. I actually prefer the way it is now, so I'm not bothered. I find that if you miss, or the penalty is saved and comes back into play, then your already on the correct camera angle. I'm sure this is why it was implemented that way.

Hmm like I thought. And the annoying bit is you have to restart after each game..otherwise you have to watch that movie over and over

Simply have to share this as it sums up the differences between pes2011 and fifa11.

Downloaded the fifa11 demo yesterday and invited a couple of my fifa loving mates over that have always played fifa and who i have over the last year shared some great moments on fifa10 and FWC with to give the two games a head to head.

Before proceeding with the fifa11 demo i fired pes2011 explained to them the stratergy and link feint system, and we got strait into a few games. There jaws were hitting the floor seeing me put backspin, side and top on the ball, hitting over the ball for low strikes on my shots and the freedom of my play and how the short passing wasnt fixed anymore and how i was freely passing the ball into space long and short with my players reacting instintively and freely to my play.

They were all in ore,and because there used to playing fifa in the manual settings took to pes2011 like ducks to water, replaying every player turn, flick and pass.As soon as i put the fifa11 demo on they were all pointing out how it wasnt the same anymore however polished and how pes2011 was fresh and like a breath of fresh air.We all laughed at fifa11s player brush stroke movements, the compactness of play and how every player felt the same, one of my mates who played barca on pes2011 and then on fifa11 even commented on how messi in fifa11 was nothing like messi in pes2011 and how he in fifa11 felt like every other player(the pes difference).

We were all in agreement at the end of the night that pes2011 is a megatron and how pes2011 exposes fifa11 for what it is a yo-yo passing game that has freedom of movement but the passing is to fixed and on a grid and how theres know real freedom in the ball. They even went as far as to say when they got home they were all downloading the demo themselves and shelving fifa this year.

Also of note i had a cracking defender animation last night in which when my keeper made a great save my defender slowly walked up to the keeper and butted him on the arse as thanks with his head.We thought it was a bug with the defender clipping off the keeper but the replay revealed it was a hidden animation and a lovely touch at that which pes2011 is full of(just wish i recorded it).

This isnt a marmite game pes2011,anyone that gives it the time will fall in love with. This game has breathed fresh life into what was becoming a very stale genre.

On a final note,if fifa11 outscores pes2011 in review scores it will be a crime against gameplay and gamers in general, while fifa11 might have all the presentation bells and whistles, when it comes to on the pitch and purity of gameplay pes2011 is light years ahead of fifa11.If fifa11 does outscore pes2011 it will show the greater gaming press for what they are morally bankrupt and in EAS POCKETS.

Back and hold x,but its relavent to your player body position(not always towards goal but backwards to the direction your facing)and can be used all over the pitch, also use the jockey and jockey run,r2(jockey)and r2/r1(jockey run).

Actually if you don't mind the language issue, you can try out Winning Eleven(R2/R3)instead. In the retail version, there has always been the Superstar mode which is even tougher than top player mode. Feel that this year will probably my toughest test yet as a Winning eleven player.

Nah, FIFA will prob do fantastic with the reviews again and deservingly so - it's an awesome game for those interested in a game that provides accessible, polished, and fun gameplay in combination with the illusion of semi-realistic football. Like jimmy said, EA know their audience and serve them well.

PES may be everything Fifa isn't, but that works both ways, IMO. Although it is far more realistic in most ways, I'm really struggling with the feeling that it's just a bit too clunky, and too frequently the CPU has a bigger part in my own play than I'd prefer.

Playing all manual I actually have been able to enjoy the WC game, at least sometimes, but the more I play the FIFA demo, the more frustrated I seem to get. That said, some aspects of PES still feel a bit too last gen, IMO, and I haven't yet felt that same magic I used to feel with pes. HOWEVER, after playing both demos yesterday then watching the barca champions league match, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind which game's barca most plays like the real thing, so I'm far from giving up as I so desperately want to experience the game in a way so many of you have described.

Pes2011 is not clunky, the player movement is much more subtle and refined then fifa and can be used to generate kinetic energy in the ball plus in pes2011 different height players have a different centre of gravity when in fifa its the same for all the players, try passing the ball first time when your cursor assigned players body and feet are in the wrong position and you dont take a touch first or the differences in power between between being stationery and moving.Fifa11 is much more forgiving and when i go back to it after mastering pes2011 its like going back to the stiffness of pes2010,fifa11,i dont feel free like i do in pes2011.

Fifa uses a skating system that gives the illusion of inertia but its the same for every player and you cant use the freedom of the spaces on the pitch like you can in pes2011.

Yes the presentation isnt fifas standard but weirdly i actually think the animation system used in pes2011 is better then fifas, its more organic, but what really shines in pes2011 is how you can hit the ball at different contact points through clever timing and add manual spin to the ball with your left stick and elevate the ball high by pulling back on the stick and hitting low by leaning over the ball with your stick, this games much more layered and sophisticated and its all about purity of gameplay.

Stick with it your see,for me its like when mario went from 2d to 3d thats what pes2011s freedom of gameplay represents, although it never sacrifices realism or sells out to the masses.

Its also got that perfect equilibrium in the ai(no scripting),know one game is ever the same nor is the outcome something my friends and i were all keen to point out in comparing the two games. Also all the hidden touches and animations that konami dont but should shout about, but there wise and realise this is also part of the magic of pes, discovering these hidden touches yourself.

Youve got to play with the stratergys and the edit management its not like fifa11 that plays a standard way by default.

this game just gets better more you play, after 5-10 games, i was doing/playing some lovely stuff
it's definate purchase for me this year
october 8th release date?

October 8th UK yes.

Don't take this as gospel but Shopto occasionally source EU stock of games which for the most include the complete English translation and send them out earlier.

If things haven't changed then EU gets the game a week early, although in this instance i don't know whether it contains the English language options.

I'm going to have a look into this myself, bear in mind though some stores are a bit funny about trading in EU games over their UK pal counter parts.

It always makes me smile when I read the words 'Robotic' and 'Clunky'. I completey understand why people say these things after playing the silky smooth Fifa, but understanding why it's like this is it's beauty. Like I have said so many times, it's these 'clunky' and 'robotic' movements that provide us with all the relevant angles required to simulate the players limbs, posture and body movement. These varying factors are what then create the percentage based errors, or, posture perfect consequence of passing, shooting, and touch. It may not be as pretty on the eye as the perfectly formed 360' movement of Fifa, but it is highly realistic. And it opens the door to almost infinite variables, especially when combined with individual player statistics that are also open to even more variety due to the condition and form arrows that replicate consistency.

It's all very , very clever stuff, and thats what makes me smile, the fact that alot of people seem to overlook it, and denounce it, in favour of a silky smooth visual that does anything but mirror the nature and technique it's trying to replicate. It's back to the old philosophies, one is aimed to look realistic, the other, to 'feel' realistic. And thats the bottom-line, whether you like it or not.

Couldnt of said it better myself jimmy, and your not wrong about this one,pes2011 gives you all the facets of control that pes2010 replicated in a automated fashion but the principle was there it was just very unfinished interms of user control.Total freedom, total control!now though

What I love is that most of the time, the player tries to perform an action that may look stupid, because you told him to do it.

For example, I switched the ball from my right back to left back, the ball was at an awkward height hit pretty hard, but I (as a habit from Fifa) tried an impossible volleyed pass with the weaker foot back to my CB without taking a touch - he completely missed the ball :).

Totally agree with whatever you said Expander. If you see my other post in the discussion thread I made some similar points as well. One thing though, I've been trying to do the aftertouch on the ball like you mentioned, but I dont think its quite working out for me. When do u do it? Right after the ball leaves the player's foot? or just before?

Yeah I actually liked the idea that PES 2010 had. It was just poorly implemented, with clunky animations and control. With PES 2011, it's just what I wanted.
