PES 2011 Discussion thread

Played demo for first time today.
After 10 mins I was actually scared.
Not in a bad way, but in a butterflies in stomach kind of way.
After 30 mins I was smiling - Then 40 mins onwards I just grinned and grinned saying "Jesus" every few mins...The possiblities seem endless! :D

Bloody hell its a whole month till we get it on our shores. I can't wait to try out the Argentinian maestros Aimar, Riquelme and Veron and getting a feel for the South American teams

Master League is going to be epic and hard as hell on top player with Guiterrez, Castolo, Minanda, Ruskin and the boys. I will most likely be shopping fron the Copa squads if it is possible.

Then there's the bloody Become a Legend which in itself lasts me atleast 3 months

Followed by the Leagues with the no hopers. Starting with the eredivisie.

And if online is good I can just as well forget about GT5 this year. PEEL is where I'll be spending all my spare time.

wanna ask is the WE2011 demo Hong Kong version contain the traditional chinese language?
since i don't have a PS3 or XBOX360 to try to play WE...

Played the demo and im not disapointed. I also played the fifa 11 demo straight after pes demo. Fifa is awfull incomparison. Pes is back. You guys will never guess what. CPU scored a 30 yarder against me. First time cpu has ever scored against me from that distance. It was only on professional aswell.

Something that really grates me is how now step over doesn't have it's own button. It's the easiest trick to do. I always hated fifa because it turned it into an ordeal and i can't be hypocritical so that gets a horrible thumbs down from me.

Plus fouls are just irritating. I've learned not to go into tackles and all but it isn't me. the computer keeps fouling me. I must say probably about half of those shouldn't even have been fouls. Although i did get dani alves sent off earlier for a second yellow in a challenge where on the replay you could clearly see he took the ball then the other player fell over.

Plus i'd like to see Gk's get toned down a smidgen because at times they have Fifa 10 like reflexes.

I'm really not going to beat around the bush here. This all am going to say. I have played both demo today extensively.

Yes FIFA has better presentation and commentary. Duh! They have official licenses. They further have better player/Gk animations and fluidity like people say but I am sorry when its all said and done...

I know which Messi I like controlling and playing with better. I ain't even a dribbling and trick connoisseur but a simple press of R2 and any direction with Messi in PS3 and PES2011 respectively gives me the close control and player freedom that resembles the real Messi.

If any of you doubt this... Try using Messi in FIFA 11 and PES 2011 Demo and see which one plays a lot like its real life counter part... The Messi in PES 2011 is more of a menace and a threat than FIFA 11 and that's just on manual formation and strategy. We ain't even delved into changing formation, tactics and strategy...

I did, but all it brings up is pes2011 e3 trailer and pes2010 demo. Comparatively, FIFA demo is on the front page for both stores...

Edit: more on top, done with Fifa11 demo download and 1st match. Still no sign of Pes demo........

Hello all, loving the demo! Does anyone know if we turn the cpu player name off in the full game? Its the only thing i don't like really.

I'd rather just wait. Already been waiting months for it, one more day won't kill me. But how lame is Konami... FIFA has huge pictures on both Xbox and Psn store frontpages and Pes demo is still nowhere to be seen. WTF!

Fifa11 feels exactly the same as South Africa by the way. I was hoping for an epic night of soccer, instead I get two major dissappointmrnts.

It's not Konami's fault, EA have the power and the money to do as they wish. Also, it's not their fault regarding the demo, that's Sony's PSN store for you, basic search engine with hidden games and demos.

Search for "Pro", "2011" or "evolution". I'm sure that'll bring up some results. If not set up an EU account, it'll only take you a few minutes as all you need is another email address/fake UK address i.e. local chippy.

He happens to be right the demo is not in the store as of now. It's like a quarter to 5 in the morning here in NYC. FWIW I've played the FIFA 11 demo and I actually prefer 2010WC. Not impressed with EA's new offering at all.

I also downloaded the Fifa demo yesterday, as I do every year to see if they have got any further forward in grasping footballing fundementals. I played one half with Lyon v Madrid. And that was all I needed to see.

I can feel the game gradually becoming more fun with every game, but there are niggles. As has been pointed out, even on top level there is a "safe zone" near the corner flags, if you get someone over there, he WILL get a cross in. It's like the AI has been ordered to just let you go in the final few yards so you can get a nice cross into the box. Then there is the advantage. I can not believe they still haven't fixed it. It was awesome around 5 or 6, can't remember exactly which game but it was pretty much perfect, and then they just sort of seemed to remove it. The ref DOES let play go on (occasionally) but where is the yellow card after the ball goes out of play?

Granted, these are pretty much my only complaints (apart from the "goal kick to only one guy" which will probably be fixed in PES 2021) but they annoy the ... out of me, if Konami could get those sorted I would be in dreamland.

Still enjoying the game though.

I gave it a bit more time than that but yeah, I have to agree, it's the same old Fifa. I've got no urge to go back and play the demo again, but I will force myself to try it more just to see if I'm missing something.

I've played a fair share of matches of the FIFA demo, and I'm divided.

The first match ever I got a bug. I played Leverkusen (the worst team in the demo, since I don't like the top-tier teams) vs Lyon. To start off, the players were on the wrong side of the field - I kid you not! My first impression was "what's the opponent doing moving towards my side of the field, inside the circle? The rules don't allow him being there before I kick-off". I went on, kicked off, and as soon as I passed to my players (who were on the right side of the field BEFORE the match began) I got an offside :P

That niggle asides, I then went on to play the match - played it on "Experienced" from the first menu - I don't know what that difficulty is, though - and I eventually lost the first game, tied the second, and won two afterwards. What I saw:

- An overhead goal against me;
- The advantage rule is great, but is valid for a LONG time - I mean, the ref calls the advantage, but then I can't take the ball away from any player for like 10 seconds, and in 10 seconds the CPU can pass the ball around to other players...
- The CPU AI was all over my defender on the goal kicks... Luckily I can pass the ball to whoever I want here.

Still, I'm a bit surprised to say that it was the most fun I had with a FIFA game in the last few years - I skipped 2010 and WC2010, just played their demos, since I bought 08 and 09 but never really played much of them because they didn't grab me...

I'm buying PES day one, no doubt about it, and probably will give the FIFA demo a few more rounds to see if there's something more beneath the surface. I have to say I actually enjoyed it - though not as much as PES.

Regards,

Paulo Tavares

Read a bit about a problem with manual switching of players on defense. I thought this was one thing they get right on 2010. Is there a problem with the switching?
I picked up 2010 a couple of months back and aside from a few quirky animations I think it plays a good game of football. Do you have a bit more freedom of movement with the ball?

Thanx for that jimmy, i dont even have to bother now, thats saved me faffing about.

I've never understood why people like fifa, until now.

After spending the last week playing the PES demo I was 99% sure I was going to buy it, but FIFA is just so much fun to play.
Its a little too fast, even on slow and the players turn in an instant with no weight transfer but apart from that I cant really pick any faults at the moment.
The week I spent with PES I kept playing it not because I was enjoying myself but because I was no good at it and wanted to improve, at times it was a chore to play to be honest. When I finally picked it up I liked it, thought it was a good game and massive improvement but I never had as much fun playing it as I do with FIFA.
I think FIFAs appeal is that its very pick up and play with no real learning curve. In only my second game I managed to go on an amazing run with Cronaldo, coming up from the side line dribbling past 4 players, I could recreate that in PES now, after playing 50+ games if I tired for a whole match. Also the passing moves and fluency of play that I can create in FIFA I would find much harder in PES and could not do it for most of the match as I do.
For the first time I really dont know which game to get, but at the moment I have the urge to keep playing FIFA over PES. Dont really know if it will stay that way, FIFA10 lasted me only a few weeks before I found it too boring and frustrating to play, they seem to have fixed all that though and I may just end up buying it over PES, again.

Anyone else unsure which game to get?

A quote from someone on the fifa forum. Oh dear.

Forgot to mention how good the new defensive system is. Hopefully it will combat online sprinting well as it now seems alot easier to hold players up.

that sort of opinion does my head in, he totally fails to grasp what pro evo is all about and i've read similar over the past day, its frustrating trying to explain to people why I think pes 2011 is a day one purchase because they simply wont have it for whatever reason.

the biggest tribute and odd one i suppose to this years demo is that i got a text message off a mate at about 2.30 this morning, the vibratrion from the phone woke me up, instead of going back to sleep i had to fit in three more games of the demo.

What is the second green indicator which shows up when you are receiving a ball?

It's below the normal blue stamina indicator?

I cannot get it, why is it showed only for 1-2 seconds?

Any thoughts?

That's why PES always has long lasting appeal. Because it takes time to learn and master the more skilful, technical moves. Fifa always has been pick-up-and-play but that's generally the reason why I quickly put it down again.

i was thinking about getting both games but with castlevania, dead rising 2, enslaved (demo on psn is stunning) out around the same time frame i'm sticking with pro evo, i really hope the online is sorted but if not the offline master league will sort my fix :-)

As much as I'm a PES fan for this year, surely that's the wrong attitude to take? Especially when it's a common suggestion amongst PES fans that it can take 10/20/30 games for PES to click, so surely half a game isn't long enough to make a valid judgement?
