PES 2011 Discussion thread

Quick question. This annoys me and meaning to ask for ages.

In replays can you raise the height of the camera? Manual replays look like shit without proper elevation

I still have a question about the defence system (ps3). So you have to hold :x: and hold your left stick towards the way your players back is facing right? Is it normal that I don't see anything happening?

I think you have to hold it directly towards the goal line regardless of which way your defender is facing. At least this seems to work for me.

Oh ok. Anyway should you see a different animation because if I do this I just see my defender run towards my own goal :P

-shit maan , i also hated it when i cant raise the camera .. its the worst thing konami could take back to make the grass look 3d. daam it.

Its :circle: or :square: depending on your control scheme. Hold back towards the goal with the left stick, then press towards the player with the stick to intercept. Do it at the wrong time, freekick, do it at the right time, win the ball or knock the player off balance.

Check the command list, it'll tell you everything.

I'm especially enjoying turning quickly with Robben or Messi using L1. Some of the foot movements and little touches are stunning.

It always makes me smile when I read the words 'Robotic' and 'Clunky'. I completey understand why people say these things after playing the silky smooth Fifa, but understanding why it's like this is it's beauty. Like I have said so many times, it's these 'clunky' and 'robotic' movements that provide us with all the relevant angles required to simulate the players limbs, posture and body movement. These varying factors are what then create the percentage based errors, or, posture perfect consequence of passing, shooting, and touch. It may not be as pretty on the eye as the perfectly formed 360' movement of Fifa, but it is highly realistic. And it opens the door to almost infinite variables, especially when combined with individual player statistics that are also open to even more variety due to the condition and form arrows that replicate consistency.

It's all very , very clever stuff, and thats what makes me smile, the fact that alot of people seem to overlook it, and denounce it, in favour of a silky smooth visual that does anything but mirror the nature and technique it's trying to replicate. It's back to the old philosophies, one is aimed to look realistic, the other, to 'feel' realistic. And thats the bottom-line, whether you like it or not.

Dude, you act like Seabass's poo don't stank. I mean, you totally turned the "clunky" criticism into an act of genius. Are you saying Konami intentionally program the game to not mimic real body movements and to be less fluid on purpose? Are you saying then these angles are only possible with these 'clunky' and 'robotic' movements even though that's not the case IRL? Because I'd really like to hope that PES in the future can become more free and fluid, like FIFA, while retaining its magical genius.

And I'd like to point out that I never said PES "is" clunky. I said it "feels" clunky to me - that's an opinion, my own impression. You talk of beauty as if your interpretation is the only way. But the "bottom-line, whether you like it or not," is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

For the most part I agree with your opinion of both PES and FIFA, but I have to say sometimes your defenses of PES can be insulting to those who don't have the same opinion, as if either we don't "get it" because we're not smart enough football-wise or because we're interested in a different type of football game.

I'm sure your intentions are nothing but the best and I applaud your enthusiasm for PES and your willingness to help and contribute, but for the sake of proving you're not Seabass's brother from another mother, how about a challenge? I challenge you to list TEN things you'd like to see improved based upon the demo, and I'd prefer it if they weren't all small items like goalkick freedom.

I can't speak for Jimmy. But what I feel is that, having played the FIFA demo, yes the 360 movement there is much smoother and has more freedom so to speak. BUT, tell me, in real life, when a player runs, can he just do 360 degree movement in one smooth motion? I would love to see that. Dont players like Robben and Messi, fantastic dribblers as they are, take sidesteps, little dinks in certain directions, and not just twirl around like ballerinas?

oh dear...don't challenge jimmy when it comes to pro unless you like reading haha

Games still amazing after a week of playing. im 30 got a missus, full time job and a mortgage... but this game has taken priority lol.

first game I played tonight, im barca the cpu is bayern, im 2-0 up, 89th minute Robben dribbles into the box and under pressure gets fouled. Penalty! NO !!! the little twat dived!!! the replay confirms and he gets issued with a yellow. great stuff.

then in my next game I hit a shot from 20 yards out, very weak shot... but it sneaks in! why? I ask, why?

well it only takes a deflection off the defenders ankle (I zoomed in to confirm) that changed the angle so that the keeper could not reach it. it looked so real! the game feels so right!

Seabass is willy Wonka, and we have the golden ticket, those who stay until after the boat ride through the tunnel (have you seen it?) will realaise what genius can create.

Sing!
"Its a world of pure imagination"

Do you think Konami will use this as their title music ? :P A whole generation of kids exposed to Gene Wilder .

This marks PES's difference from EA's approach. Games do differ, goals differ and there are levels of subtlety in built to the game which can be refined on the tactics board.

Yes there are gripes. As I have mentioned before the advantage rule, goalkeepers need to be mo capped for next year, penalty system needs revision but overall it is a satisfying package which keeps the consumer interested for months and enjoying nuances within the game they have not seen before.

I for one am glad, though I will be keeping my copy of PES6 in perpetuity (might be worth something as an antique in years to come) .

And on a high end PC it is visually sumptuous and immersive.

And I am sure the modding community will make the experience certainly on PC even more so.

Hope Pastore has a decent face as well this year. Superstar in the making. ;)

Is it me, or the game itself on PC runs much smoother than PES 2010? I'm using the same settings and I get way more FPS, even with forced AA at 16Q.

Again, my post was not a "FIFA is better because..." post. Just because I use FIFA as an example does not mean I think FIFA is a better game or that FIFA is doing things right. Both games will always do some things better than the other does. In fact, in many ways the animations and body movement are better in pes than in FIFA, but as a whole I still at times feel pes is a little jarring to my senses.

Once again, I am not making a statement that pes IS jarring or clunky, I'm just trying to do my best to describe some of the difficulties I'm having playing the demo after having switched to FIFA since 08.

For the record, the more I get used to playing pes again, the more I'm enjoying the demo. Meanwhile, the more I play the FIFA demo the more I dislike it. That's not to say however I don't miss parts of FIFA when playing pes, like manual controls, and vice versa.

The only real hinderance atm, aside from just getting use to the different buttons, is I feel like - again, just my impression and it may change with time - some things are a bit random, like passing accuracy and shot power. Sometimes I simply can't figure out why a pass went to one player rather than the one I had hoped for, while shot power, well I've shot some real floaters that looked more like lob passes (still getting use to the controls so some probably were lob passes!). I get player individuality and correct player positioning, but I wtill feel like I'm missing something.

Also, dunno what's more evil: FIFA's 3 min halves or the darn PES video at the end!

Fair enough. Cuz you were talking about real life, and whether the "clunky" movements happen in real life, and they do, so PES in my opinion does mimic the real life movements pretty accurately.

As for the shots, you need to get the hang of it. I was experiencing floaty shots as well. But once I figured out how to shoot properly, I hardly ever have em. And when I do, I know exactly why it happens. For example, (not a floaty shot example though), in the game I just played, Xavi had a chance on goal. If he had taken it with his left, it would have surely gone in. However, he decided to take it with his right, and it was an awkward angle so it went tamely to the keeper. I paused the game and looked at Xavi's stats. Weak foot usage: 4. :D Just a few minutes before that, Villa had whacked one at the crossbar using his left foot. Checked out his stats as well. Weak foot usage: 6 Weak foot accuracy : 8 ! :SMUG: The more i play this game, the more I fall in love with it.

im finished now playing the demo,im looking forward to getiing the full game in 2 weeks(hopefully shopto will think im in europe and send on the 30th)

Can someone give me the low-down on free kicks, it feels like it's changed from 2010.

Oh and guys, the penalty system has changed as well. Check out the command list. Seems now the left stick controls both direction and height.

It depends who you're taking them with.
D'Alessandro (left footer) under 26m from goals is a diagonal down and right. This gets him to wrap his foot around the ball giving greater swerve with the instep. So you pick your spot between the 2nd and last man in the wall hold diagonal down and right and power up just above halfway.

Long range FKs are harder so use diagonal up and right more power but not full and use triangle once the ball has gone over the wall and press diagonal down and right to get it to dip.
Also use the dpad on FKs it's easier to judge the direction for me. It's hard to explain because the individuality is so intense and the position of the FK.
