PES 2011 Discussion thread

It depends who you're taking them with.
D'Alessandro (left footer) under 26m from goals is a diagonal down and right. This gets him to wrap his foot around the ball giving greater swerve with the instep. So you pick your spot between the 2nd and last man in the wall hold diagonal down and right and power up just above halfway.

Long range FKs are harder so use diagonal up and right more power but not full and use triangle once the ball has gone over the wall and press diagonal down and right to get it to dip.
Also use the dpad on FKs it's easier to judge the direction for me. It's hard to explain because the individuality is so intense and the position of the FK.

Check out page 341 of this thread mate.

Thanks.

Fair enough. Cuz you were talking about real life, and whether the "clunky" movements happen in real life, and they do, so PES in my opinion does mimic the real life movements pretty accurately.

As for the shots, you need to get the hang of it. I was experiencing floaty shots as well. But once I figured out how to shoot properly, I hardly ever have em. And when I do, I know exactly why it happens. For example, (not a floaty shot example though), in the game I just played, Xavi had a chance on goal. If he had taken it with his left, it would have surely gone in. However, he decided to take it with his right, and it was an awkward angle so it went tamely to the keeper. I paused the game and looked at Xavi's stats. Weak foot usage: 4. :D Just a few minutes before that, Villa had whacked one at the crossbar using his left foot. Checked out his stats as well. Weak foot usage: 6 Weak foot accuracy : 8 ! :SMUG: The more i play this game, the more I fall in love with it.

Although I thought EA had players like Rooney come in to be digitally filmed - you know, with those green suits and tracking balls, like they'll use in movies - so I'm not sure why fifa's movements would be inaccurate. Some of their stuff is wrong but I'm pretty sure they used the best tech there is for motion capture. IMO, that's all the stuff FIFA does really well. It's just all the, you know, football stuff they don't do so well.

Back onto shooting - yeah I'm having more joy with it than before but I notice the CPU has a lot of floaty shots as well. I'm only on Pro difficulty so maybe it'll be different on Top Player?

Also, how the hell do you shield the ball?

What does :triangle: do?

Dude, you act like Seabass's poo don't stank. I mean, you totally turned the "clunky" criticism into an act of genius. Are you saying Konami intentionally program the game to not mimic real body movements and to be less fluid on purpose? Are you saying then these angles are only possible with these 'clunky' and 'robotic' movements even though that's not the case IRL? Because I'd really like to hope that PES in the future can become more free and fluid, like FIFA, while retaining its magical genius.

And I'd like to point out that I never said PES "is" clunky. I said it "feels" clunky to me - that's an opinion, my own impression. You talk of beauty as if your interpretation is the only way. But the "bottom-line, whether you like it or not," is that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

For the most part I agree with your opinion of both PES and FIFA, but I have to say sometimes your defenses of PES can be insulting to those who don't have the same opinion, as if either we don't "get it" because we're not smart enough football-wise or because we're interested in a different type of football game.

I'm sure your intentions are nothing but the best and I applaud your enthusiasm for PES and your willingness to help and contribute, but for the sake of proving you're not Seabass's brother from another mother, how about a challenge? I challenge you to list TEN things you'd like to see improved based upon the demo, and I'd prefer it if they weren't all small items like goalkick freedom.

A. I would love to be Seabass brother, hopefully a taller version and without a tash.

B. I stand by what I say, if you dont believe thats the case, then thats entirely your opinion, and your more than welcome to it.

As for the question, thats not my area of expertise, I simply appreciate and understand the fundamentals and technique PES uses to simulate the game. I leave the clever stuff to the clever Japanese people who defined this genre, they are pretty good. And our kid, the short one with the raggy tash, I love him, I say I love him like a brother, brother. :)

Has somebody already write to Jon Murphy about that annoying stutter that happens so now and than in a match? It happened five times during a match: Everything stops for half a second and then it goes on in a slightly different position....
I played the Xbox version.

BTW that stutter is NOT in the PC version.

Seriosly, you find no room for improvement? It's hard for me to understand where you're coming from if you see nothing wrong with the game. After all, though beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, nothing is perfect.

As for my opinions about PES movement and angles etc., I was honestly asking what you meant. I'm enjoying the demo the more i play it but I just find it difficult to understand how improving freedom of movement and controls, adding more animations, and making things more fluid would all of the sudden ruin the angles and "the clever stuff" - and I was simply asking if you could explain why. I wasn't arguing as much as questioning, since I don't know jack-all about programming. I was simply operating under the assumption that PES could benefit from taking some of the positives from the competition.

Hows the editing scene for PES since it's demise? I imagine it'll pick up now it regained a lot of it's fanbase, but were there plenty of resources for the 360 last year?

A chant/sound pack is essential really as the demo has a really dull drone in the background that's supposed to be an atmosphere.

I just put that down to it being a demo. . .

Loving the demo but Im disappointed with the Cpu.. I'm playing on top player and they never seem to attack me.. They just defend & I end up having possession the whole game which is not what I want.. Barca should be attacking whenever they get the chance but I'm not seeing that.. Really hope it's alot harder in the full game!!

The editing scene is still very healthy despite the last few years of poor releases. Just look in the editing section here, there's tons of great option files for PES2010 on the PS3, which is the more popular console for the editors due to it's flexibility, but there's also a few good option files for the 360 as well. I think the editing scene on the 360 will pick up this year due to Microsoft allowing USB support.

Konami have even said that their regular updates and patches wont mess with option files in PES2011 which is great news, and the stadium editor should add a whole new dimension to modding the game.

I think PES2011 will be very well supported with option files particulalry as the series seems to be winning back some of it's old fans.

Hi, man i want to share something with you.

i don't want to believe this but if it's true. I think I'll go mad!

I've noticed. (I'm sure it's just me) that the CPU Barca and Bayern play differently weather it's at home or away.

It's seems easier to play vs Barca when your playing as Bayern at home, compared to playing Barca away from home.

I barley got a shot on goal and much possession when trying to beat Barca at the Nou Camp. But when i played them at home, it was a rather more open game which I would narrowly lose!

Similar story with trying to beat Bayern, it's much easier to beat them at the Nou Camp compared to away from home. BUT after i got used to how Barca play i was even able to beat Bayern away from home without fat nose (2-0)

It must be just me, I'm sure, no way even Konami would even implement this into the game! But, test it out for yourself :)

When i play as bayern at home its the same for me i narowly lose or at best draw. But tonight i tried barca for the first time at the nou camp and Bayern beat me 2-0 :CONFUSE:

How many of you have encountered glitches?

Out of about 10+ matches i've had 2 separate games with weird glitches. Ones i couldn't really understand why they'd happened.

The first incident made the cursor switch to my GK even though the ball was around the half way line. I couldn't switch back to my outfield players and even checked that i was still on assisted switchin (which i was). It only switched back when I won a freekick after the CPU had run down the pitch on the attack.

The second incident happened in a different game. I must say something felt odd about this game before it happened. At the start of the game i kept switching about with the game speed to see what other speeds were like so maybe this had an affect. Either way it happened when i switched back to the default speed. Basically the passing was out of tune, say i tried to pass up^ is would pass to the left> and so on, stuff like that. It was going on for about 40 seconds or so before i turned the game off. You'll have to believe me when i say it wasn't just me being inept with my passing i guess :). Player switching seemed a bit off too after it happened especially in defence but that's happened from time to time before so it wasn't exclusive with the other issue.

I happened to put a player in goal for the second one too just to see how they faired. Maybe that lead to it, who knows.

So yeah anybody else with some stories?

You may be right man.. I havent actually played as the away team yet, i always pick the left side (home) so i will definitely give it a go later and see if theres are any differences.. Will be beautiful if your right!!:SMUG:

And this is why you dont let little shits play certain games.. Taken from that video on Gametrailers.. Beware, wall of text!

I played the demo and i got to say that im sorry for all the people that is going to buy this game, it just really bad in my opinion, the graphics are ok ,the things i didnt like are ,the controls of the players feel weird, when you shoot it feels kinda automatic you dont seem to have any control of them like being able to curve the ball, the keepers reacts really slow, when i had a penalty kick against my team and i was controling the keeper the camera was the default one seeing the penalty from up top like a ele angle i dont understand that choise this was one of the most annoying thing ohh and when the player was running towards the ball to kick it i wasnt able to move the keeper! just after he shoot i was able to move the keeper that was just really bad, the defenders reacted slow in corner kicks it felt better the header control but the defenders didnt ha defend at all my headers, you cant justle a ball that is coming down, the player just moves towards the area where the ball is coming and they just wait for it to fall and do whatever you want the to do, there was not much freedom in the replays you dont have that much angles you cant move the camera around, when you enter the game plan option it just ugly, ugly to control and you have a pointer ugly to see, you have to select a player then move it around towards your list of your players on the bench on the left and choose the one you want to substitute, it felt clunky and slow, and when you want to see all the stats it looks like everything its just cluttered with no organisation whatsoever, the main menu looks great but when you pause the game and go to game plan or settings or any other option in there it just ugly and looks like its all cluttered old. The conclusion i have from the demo is that this game its just dying every year gameplay wise as there is not much new features (as there is a lot of guys that are going to buy this no matter what) im really sorry for all the guys that are going to buy this game, i think konami as i said in past posts, they dont have any ground base any features or menus (they have at least some base for the graphics)to start from and they just make everything all over again, example the menus they keep changing it everytime, the controls are changed a little bit.Thats why i think they waste their time doing all this new menus instead of focusing on gameplay features, and adding more teams. The thing i really liked was the online league (lets see how that turns out when it is released) and it looks like they added more customization options and some of them are just really crazy changing the looks of the seats in the stadiums and a lot of more things.Overall im going to pass on this game its not worth the 60 bucks.

OH and if you want to thumb me down at least qoute this post and write your opinion and say why dont you agree with me not just cause you are a little dumbass fanboy

Tap R1/RB to stop the ball dead, the player will then hold up the ball.

Yeah, but what do I do if I'm facing the player I want to shield the ball from? What you're describing only works if the player is already behind you, right? In FIFA you hold R2 and your player actually turns around to shield. In PES, what's the quickest way to simulate this?

Loving the trick feints, though at first it's a bit strange having a long string of tricks simulated for you. Still, very cool. But having problems pulling of single tricks, like just a ball roll or spin move - is it just with L2?

Also, is there a way to break-off a link of feints? Like you do the first trick but realize you should stop there... can that be done or is it the whole shebang or nothing?

Shooting still seems a bit floaty to me - you can take a bathroom break during the time it sometimes takes a shot to hit the back of the net!

Yep Ive picked that up as well. At the Nou Camp ( Im Barcelona), all the teams adopt a very defensive approach and Ive managed to camp inside their half.

Away from home has been interesting, even the Copa sides have been more adventurous.

Really impressed with that to be honest.

I can't speak for Jimmy. But what I feel is that, having played the FIFA demo, yes the 360 movement there is much smoother and has more freedom so to speak. BUT, tell me, in real life, when a player runs, can he just do 360 degree movement in one smooth motion? I would love to see that. Dont players like Robben and Messi, fantastic dribblers as they are, take sidesteps, little dinks in certain directions, and not just twirl around like ballerinas?

At this moment i think that Fifa is fluid and pes is clunky.
I understand what Jimmy says about it, but still i would like pes to be a little more fluid. I fully agree that in Fifa player can turn 360 degrees in 0.5 seconds with the ball glued to their feet, and it is not realistic.
But god, would i love pes to be just a little more fluid then what it is now, be it realistic or not.
For me, its just a game and the fluidity would - for me - make it more fun to play.

Grow up. I never said there isnt room for improvement, your being pathetic. There is always room for improvement, everywhere, every single part of the game can be improved. It's not my job to improve it, Konami make the improvements year on year, and hopefully they will continue to be the experts in this field. So let them get on with it, and we can judge year on year. PES 2010 was classed as riged and clunky, and it was. PES 2011 has had the transistions of the animations reworked, it's alot smoother, but still creates the angles required, and will always feel a little clunky and robotic no matter how smooth they get these transitions. It's a means to an end.

To answer your questions on angles, show me a Fifa video where natural body angles are produced to create all the variables needed to offer what Konami are producing, with foot preference. Also show me a video where the art of dribbling on Fifa is portrayed realistically using this super smooth, clunk free, 360 system ?
