PES 2011 Discussion thread

I can't remember which OF I use for 360? It's either Daymos or Dragonskin. I should check. I don't have Bundesliga but the teams that have been fixed look pretty good :)

Re: ★ PES 2011 / PS 3 - Camera Settings v1.0 ★

Kind of off topic but I played someone in an online community last night and we're both from Australia. Fantastic! 15 minute matches. Both playing it like it was a real game. Moving the ball properly. Mixture of short and long passes. I had to stop and tell myself it's just a game haha. First game was a 2-0 win to Milan vs Napoli with both goals in extra time. 2nd game was Everton v Sunderland with goals flowing a plenty until my connection dropped :( Devastated! I scored an absolute belter with Arteta and I couldnt save the replay :(((((
Ball was cutback from the edge of the byline and the 18 yard box to Arteta running in about 20 yards out....first time pile driver into the top corner. I jumped! hahaha. But now it's only a memory for 2 people....ah god bless this game lol

Calcio mate, had to move your post from the camera thread to this one as it was irrelevant there.

No mate, it was in the camera thread ;)

Btw, I'm moving to Sydney this month and wanted to know which ISP I should go for, and prices etc. Want the quickest connection with best service. Need to get online for PES ;)

Optus or Telstra any good?

LOL classic. Like I said, it was early morning ;)

Sydney is beautiful. I'm in Adelaide. Me and another guy have an online community for Australian PES players but only us two so far.

Telstra has the best coverage in Australia for phone networks and they also handle internet (Big Pond) and you can purchase pay tv (Foxtel) via Telstra. If you do a bundle for internet, pay tv, home phone, mobile phone etc (any combination), you would get some kind of discount.

There are other providers outside of Telco companies that are good. I use Internode here in Adelaide. Not sure if they operate in Sydney. There's a forum called Whirlpool that discusses all these issues so you might find some good tips on there, otherwise shoot me a message and I can find out more for you. Tell me where abouts you will be living if you like, as I have some mates in Sydney.

Thanks mate. I'll make sure to check out that forum then. Been away from online PES for so long now. Need my fix..

I think its forums.whirpool.net.au (am I allowed to say that on air?) lol
So where are you from originally?
Online PES is something I missed for 4 weeks coz the TV was getting repaired. Back now and Im trying to sort out my MLO team. Been playing some nice football so far...but the luck hasn't been falling my way.
Also - does no one check out the video threads anymore? :P

Yeah that must be the one I use. I wanted to ask if he could create the A-League strips for me (11 teams). I have all the images as PNG files and have now borrowed a friends Xbox live vision camera but would prefer if someone could do it who had experience. I am laboriously creating all the player stats through a conversion spreadsheet but getting the correct strips and player names (and roughly the correct appearance is the main thing).

I will try again tonight to make some more teams. I have to admit though, when you have the right logo's and sponsor names and the players look and play similar to their real life counterparts, you crack a little smile ;)

Had a quick look at the comments on the PES Facebook page. Dear God, so many whingers posting on there who claim they're playing FIFA instead now due to Konami taking a while popping the update out.

Please, go play it. Uninterrupted. Until your pad explodes, blowing your fingers off.

Besides the training mode that was better in the previous games one thing they left out was the ability to combine kits It was in pes 5 I see teams doing it often in real life Inter in the champions league final for example They should really bring it back

That's a productive video and I agree with almost all of it, but I'm not sure I agree about the snow. I've read a lot of people asking for this to come back, but apart from if you were playing say, Russian teams etc then I don't really find that games take place with snow on the pitch any more. Top level games have undersoil heating/covers, lower league games just get called off due to snowy pitches. To me, snow games, say, in FIFA look unrealistic because you never see it anymore.

I'd rather future games concentrated on, like you say in your video, small variations in weather and how it really affects the ball and as well as the game's graphics. Perhaps games could replicate temperature more, in that you can have a warm ish game where it rains but also freezing cold days where the breath can be seen on the players, misty/foggy weather, rain mist, windy conditions affecting how the ball moves in the air, making nets, corner flags, player shorts etc flap in the wind, or even change the direction of the rain into 'sheets' of rain that you tend to get in winter. Hope that makes sense, I think it would make weather in games more realistic.

As for kits etc getting progressively dirty, I actually forgot all about how this used to happen in older PS2 versions. Back then I'm sure player shirts became untucked, and got muddy etc. It's crazy that all this time later we're now having to ask for stuff like this to be included. It's not just PES, FIFA doesn't feature this kind of thing either.

Thanks for that advice buzzy :)

EDIT: Btw, just installed bolloxmasta's patch on my ps3 and it looks really good. Also, had to delete my 1.02 patch, which meant going back to how PES came out the box. Game feels slower, and there's no way I can play on -2 now, and had to move it back to 0. Shots are more varied again. I really prefer this. Think the patch ruined it somehow for me. It became faster which isn't what I wanted and had to play on -2.

I was wondering the same thing for ages but as time went on just became convinced by people saying that the patch made the game much better. I might try deleting the patch too. I never play online anyways, and I too found the game less enjoyable once the patch came out. Thought it was just my imagination but maybe there's something in it.

Good video Spooky, agree with it all.

Most stadia have undersoil heating now so you could still have piles of snow around the edge of the pitch and a light dusting of snow coming down as the match takes place. It doesn't have to be completely realistic, it's just about creating an effect. Like using the orange ball and seeing player's breath in cold weather, stuff that was in PES5 on last gen.

Okay so i removed patch 1.02 so the game was back to version 1.0, and I don't know if it's just a placebo effect going on, but I enjoyed the game much more. On the surface there's nothing immediately different but I think passing is less 'nippy' for sure.

I also think the AI doesn't do anywhere near as many of their tackles where they run alongside you and nudge you off the ball. Since the patch the AI was frustratingly hard to shield the ball from. I've only played some friendlies but felt like I had more time on the ball when dribbling, and could attempt a few decent dribbles between defenders. Version 1.02 really seems to make the AI just knock into you and take the ball, so removing the patch seems to have remedied this, which has made the game miles more fun than before.

Other than that I can't tell what the patch actually did. On semi-auto I've found that I've had absolutely no player switching issues at all in version 1.0, which is odd considering that was the main complaint people had, and to me, shots seem the same too. I suppose the glitch where you can run it into the corner without being tackled is back without the patch, but that's no problem because I never exploited it anyways. Even with the patch, I could still get in a ton of crosses every match so no difference there.

I really think the patch made AI challenges stronger. It still closes you down at the same rate, but you can more easily ride the challenges with the game in it's original state. That said, the game's still just as difficult, the AI seems to attack a lot more than post-patch, no more silly defensive formations etc, and the AI seems to keep the ball a little better too.

All in all, I've found the game to be a tiny fraction slower, attacking more enjoyable thanks to far less of the AI 'running' you off the ball, and the AI is tougher to defend against. I think Konami patched the game with the intention of making it more difficult by making AI challenges stronger, and making a lot of teams sit deep and play on the counter attack. Those things that made the game less enjoyable for me seem to have gone.

I'll give the game another go some time this week and see if I still see the same differences. One evening's play probably isn't enough to get a decent opinion :))

pes 2011 is the biggest let down!

i love pes games, have been playing them for years, so when i comment here dont think im a fifa guy! but the graphics of this game make me wanna throw up, honestly what the fuck have konami done to this game????, the entire game is a let down in my opinion but ill just talk about the graphics for now, i mean konami have lost the plot! srsly the kits look shit they have no colour what so ever, go look at fc porto's kit on the net and then go look at their kit on pes 2011, porto's kit is friggin light blue borderline purple, same for man united. i mean how am i supposed to play this game and take it seriously when there is no atmosphere in games whatsoever, the stadium graphics are rediculously bad, the crowd looks like shit! it looks like ur match is being watched but a wall of cardboard, and when players score goals sometimes they just turn around and walk back to the middle without even celebrating! LMAO the the graphical textures of this game are horrible! pes 2010 graphics were 10x better than 2011, i mean look at the nou camp, when you play games at the nou camp, press start, go to istant replay and look at the stadium, LMAOOO it litterally looks like u are being watched by a wall of white cardboard, now some might think pfffft who cares about the stadium and the graphics its the gameplay i care about, but i mean think about it, look at the graphics of other next gen sporting games and you tell me pes 2011 matches those??? look at 2k11 for example, u cant even compare the two, 2k11 looks like a true next gen game, pes looks like borderline ps2! not good enough KONAMI! i am seriously so pissed off! i was looking forward to playing master league and taking my club through the champions league and europa league, but it doesnt feel realistic to me, and its really really boring! i cant take pes seriously this year and regret ever buying! what a friggin joke KONAMI!

i like pes2011 in many ways.. but i still have problems at some points. why isnt it a foul when ur passes the ball and right after that u are tackled and knocked off your feet by your opponent... late tackling is always foul play but the ref gives play-on since the ball is in your teams possession...
it really kills 1-2-1 passing and the ref doesn even books you if u do it with more than 2-3 players and make sure the ball is in the opponents possession only??

YouTube - PES Plan 2 Konami! - Episode 3 - Graphics

It mentions nets...it does not mention goal posts...they are embarassing to say the least. The worst texture in the whole game: a crappy jaggy flashy paint of plastic white, u could do better with word or excel...

I would happyly give up a lot of visual details for a great sound. Football is all about the crowds...real world chants,AI in crowd behaviour, real teams official entrance music, speaker repeating the name of those who scores, intros like in pes5 with animated crowd and flares...the game badly need some flavour, it plays well on the pitch but all around it pretty plain. Master league get boring because every game feels the same: more stadia, specific intros and real world chants would make a hell of a difference.

Plus throw in the mix some little surprises...in pes4 i once played in munich with snow and a snowman right next to the pitch...my and my mate laughed for ages!

AND ONE PERSONAL FAV:
I wish they could put in Marco Tardelli 1982 WC celebrations: i'd love to recreate myself and choose that celebration!

ONe more thing:
I would happyly pay 10/15 euros for a DLC with offical rosters and kit from 1985/6 or 1977/8...

Definitely agree about the tackles. They're pretty frustrating in 1.02 knocking you off the ball from behind.

I still do think shots are bit different though. In 1.02 they're more powerful imo.

Totally agree with wendetta's idea on using a replay button. I tried 2K's Top Spin 4 demo and loved how you could press triangle to bring up an optional replay. Nice touch.

In fact, I still wish 2K could bring out a football game. Their tennis and basketball games are spot on in terms of everything, presentation, atmosphere, options. Given how Konami have frustratingly always added stuff only to remove other decent features, even back on the PS2, then I won't expect a massive array of options for things like selecting goal nets in the next PES game.

Lami, yeah I think you're right on the shooting, shots do seem less powerful. I'm suddenly enjoying this again having given up on the game for a while, screw it I'll just keep it on version 1.0. I think the AI's less robust way of challenging you makes the game a bit more physically even. That and the AI seems to actually attack your goal, before the patch.

This is something I actually immediately noticed when playing the game after the patch shots seemed less powerfull so it was harder to score from distance But I saw nobody mentioning antyhing about it so I thought it was me trippin

all i have to say is the stadium graphics and atmosphere of games is just so so horrible! i thought next genertaion gaming was about realism??? KONAMI have given us a ps2 style game HORRIBLE!

Well I thought it might have been a placebo effect and so it's proven to be....

Just played tonight and the same old problems resurface after a few games. Both of this year's titles are so fucked up beyond comprehension that I'm giving up on both for this year.

How is it possible, on BOTH PES and FIFA, for me to be able to comfortably win against the top teams yet struggle in the most dire, boring matches possible against the weaker teams? Both titles are massively unbalanced.

I just played as Spurs vs Toulouse, and the AI set out an utterly, utterly ridiculous formation after just a few minutes whereby I paused the game, with Modric on the ball on the halfway line, and could see there were no AI players within 30 yards of him. The AI had, including the keeper, TEN players all standing in a line across the penalty area. TEN. After 10 minutes of play. The game was impossible. No Spurs player could seem to control the ball without taking loads of slow touches, even using R2, and the ball just appeared to magnetically switch over to the AI player's foot whenever he got near my man with the ball. Surprise surprise I conceded a soft goal from a corner, and that was that. If you work the ball into the AI's final third, you'd literally be hounded out by a wall of 10 players against 3 or 4 attackers at most, and non of whom make any decent runs. All you can do is make them do a forward run when you pass the ball, which just results in them running in a straight line like a robot until they're in an offside position. The AI is a joke.

Previously, I somehow got tonked 4-1 by Roda. I had all the possession, the AI sat ridiculously deep, 4 breakaways, 4 goals. Bottom line is when the AI decides it's going to be 'tough', it seems to be able to make even the weakest teams be able to intercept almost any pass, it just takes the ball off you whether you're shielding it or not, it's a joke. I can't believe it's 2011 and the situation with football and videogames is that only two companies have a total monopoly on the sport, and both are somehow fucking up their own franchises with every year.

So, erm, no, the patch really doesn't make a difference. My games last night were enjoyable, my games tonight were less fun than having a tooth pulled out. I couldn't manufacture a single shot at goal against a 10 man defence who steamrollered into tackles, hounded you on the ball with up to FOUR players, and seemed to make your much better rated players have worse control.

Both games this year really are total bollocks. If you compare how other genres have progressed in the last 10 years, it's astonishing how much of a mess these two companies are making of representing the sport. There are so many better games out there that I"m not going to give these two my money any more until someone produces something far, far better.

Compare a FPS from 10 years ago with the likes of Killzone 3 or Bad Company 2. Compare other sports titles, like 2K's NBA2K series or Top Spin etc. Or look at how racing games have evolved from basic racers to the likes of Gran Turismo 5. Compare how platform games have evolved into the likes of Drake's Fortune 2 and Little Big Planet.

Most of these games now come with full 3D support, complex online modes without massive exploits, atmosphere, top graphics, better and improving AI, tweaks to controls, more options, even support for PS Move or Kinect. Yet, fans of PES and FIFA are still asking for basic details like shirts getting dirty, proper animations, more choice of nets, stadiums, kit options, weather, cursors that don't take on a life of their own, keepers that actually try to save shots, or better audio than the awful mess PES turns out year after year, and some sense of atmosphere. FIFA can't even get the crowds chanting for the right teams (fancy playing as Arsenal and having your fans chant "we love you Fulham"?), whereas PES sounds empty and repetitive. And most importantly, both games still can't develop any kind of decent defensive AI that doesn't rule by making it's defenders into bionic supermen. And it can't do anything other than sit back, artificially restrict you from attacking, then hit you on the break with the same types of goals over and over again. But even graphically speaking, FIFA can't seem to escape making all the game's players look like glazed zombies, whereas PES just can't seem to stop making games now where players run in some bizarre robotic way.

Both games still use the same cheap AI routines to stop you winning that games used well over 10 years ago. Sure, the games now are technically 'better', but I don't remember ever being so dissatisfied with football games back then, nor do I experience any real problems with any other game I own on current gen hardware. It's as if both companies have introduces a whole load of new stuff over the recent years, but it gets overpowered by the AI routines recycled from years ago. Both are technically more sophisticated than before, yet, somehow, both of these football games absolutely drive me up the wall sometimes. They're just not fun anymore. The same can't be said for the rest of the industry right now.

EA have recently all but admitted the game is aimed towards the casual, throwaway market, which you'd kind of expect, whereas I've never understood how Konami have never been able to produce a single PES game that didn't include a new feature by unnecessarily taking out other cool, favourite, features. They don't even appear to be getting anywhere near making the ball move in a realistic way these days. Someone like 2K needs to do for football games what they've done for other sports titles, and give these two companies a massive kick up the arse. Sigh. Rant over.

So you had a good night and a bad night yet saying it' totally unplayable? What if you had two or three really good nights?

I find the sound effects and crowd a lot better than FIFA. Sure there could be dynamic elements and the little things like shirts getting dirtier etc but it's sometimes all these details that people ask for that detract game makers from the gameplay issues. Sure at the moment there are the little 1 per centers that are missing from PES but its selling the steak, not the sizzle, unlike FIFA which has the razzle dazzle but not the depth.
