PES 2011 Discussion thread

Cheers guys :).

@xPJRx - I still havn't quite gotten the hang of R2 dribbling, I tend to just use the left stick alone, but when I do use R2, I hold it while jogging towards the player I want to beat, then use subtle movements of the left stick to change direction, trying to wrong-foot and get behind them.
Another use for it is when recieving the ball in a crowded box, you can sometimes pull off nice touches/turns to make yourself a bit of space to have a dig at goal or distribute the ball.

With how the auto-tackling works in the full game, this is generally less effective than it was in the demo though, it's a risky thing to use and I should probably keep at it in training mode.
I wish there were a situation training/play-again feature in training mode so you could just keep trying to beat AI defenders in various ways without having to win the ball back all the time.

Definitely.

Playing my mates on the demo (most of them don't own the full game) is a joy - they generally overcommit/pressure often, and I can either jink away from the challenges and tear through the defence, or manoever the ball into dangerous areas and then draw a foul (especially with Iniesta/D'Alessandro/Messi/Robben). Usually this allows me to score at least one goal and dominate the game.
In fact I've only lost to my mates about 5 times in probably over 50 games on the demo, these are experienced FIFA players as well, no mugs when it comes to gaming.

The full game is far more biased towards the defence - the (auto)tackling is seemingly far easier and the amount of fouls is much lower. I think the short passing may possibly be slightly more assisted in the full game too.
Just seems more "noob-friendly" in general, and that's disappointing.

In the full game, I generally have less success in multiplayer, with games being far more balanced between "gamers" and "footballers", although I still end up winning more often than not, I have to sacrifice the silky dribbling for more quicker passing to players in space and don't score such a large variety of goals.

Another thing that may be a placebo effect - R2 controlled shots from distance seem less powerful in the full game.
I've scored one with Villa (vid below), and scored a sweet goal with Messi on the demo a few days ago, beating a couple of players with R2 dribbling, then bending it into the far corner from about 25 yards with the keeper flat-footed.
R2 shots are delightful from within or just outside the box, especially with the technique players like Del Piero, but it's rare to trouble the keeper from any sort of range.
Maybe it's because they were with world class Barcelona players rather than the MLO/Coventry players I usually control on the full game...

Don't get me wrong, PES 2011 is still a footballer's game, unless the "gamer" knows the game inside out and has played it a lot. When I'm on form, I'm capable of beating D1 players online who have a win% of about 70% after 1000+ games, in no other football game has that been the case for me, even PES5.
In PES5 it was the long chipped through balls from out wide with Beckham/Ronaldinho, PES6 I'd get raped by Adriano/Inter/cutbacks, FIFA 08-10 I'd get raped by speed demons/ping-pong passing/pressure/finesse shots. 2011 has the speed merchants and at times unstoppable passing moves, but whenever I concede I can usually look at the replay and find something I could have done to prevent it, there's far less rage involved this year :P.

I'm still really enjoying PES 2011, probably because I havn't overplayed it, but Konami could go on to produce a spectacular simulation next time around, if they don't give in to the demands of the casual players.

Great post and great goals. That Villa one looks like something out of a Del Piero scrapbook. :WOOT:

Cheers Jimmy/CC :).

I agree about the animation, it's quite unrealistic, almost looks like a girl kicking the ball :P.

I just remembered another side-footed effort I uploaded from the demo, this time with Edu of Internacional (with a better animation);

You're right, the animation there looks fantastic...it really shows how the body shape is leaning across slightly (opened up) to give him that bit of natural curl. Robbie Baggio anyone :P

Do you remember how you got the ball at that height? Do you hold top right when you aim or just aim the stick to the right of goal and let the power dictate the height?

Is there a way to save chipped shots in penalties? Was having a game with my cousin and we just kept using chipped shots because we couldn't figure out a way to save it :p

I'm afraid not, very hard to save. A flaw in the penalty system in my book.

Here is a goal I scored in a Division 2 MLO match. Sometimes you need to think outside of the box and let pure instinct take over ......

Playing MLO or lobby 1 boys really brings out PES flaws.

-The slide the player without the ball
-Hack from behind is a yellow IMC
-Throughballs, throughballs, throughballs
-Cutbacks
-Constant pressure
-Running into a players back bringing that horrific stumble animation
-Triple tap low cross is too effective
-Pressure on a throw in
-Pressure on the defender when taking a goal kick as you are limited to who you can pass too.

All of these can be countered. But why must it be so easy to turn a great game into an absolute turd.

If konami spent 2 days playing this game online all the faults and what they need to improve will be so obvious. I wonder if jon ever goes online.

Through balls can be defended against usually Its very predictable when someone is gonna pass the ball and you can just walk with a defender and intercept it

The low cross is also something you can defend against by just selecting a player and trying to mark someone in the box but then again it depends alot if you are playing with a strong or weak team weak defenders will usually be to slow to clear the ball and will most of the times result in a own goal

but in general I agree you have to play with like minded people if you want to play realistic football online the pressure by the way could be easily fixed if Konami would make a proper stamina system sprinting alot would result in players getting tired faster people would think twice before just running around

Pes 2011 is realistic but still has some major flaws and fifa is even worse both games are just not good enough

Yup. It's good that you can counter most of them but it's sad that the game ends up not being about the football.

I'd also add that passing the ball is too easy/accurate, as well as being too fast at the top end. Because of this you end up with teams being able to just keep three forwards up top and laser the ball to them for counters, exploiting how fullbacks wander, even if they aren't attacking. Make the passing slower and more wayward over large distances and you will see people more likely to play 4-2-3-1 than 4-3-3 or 4-1-0-2-3.

nah this game is awesome, yes there are flaws, but the game is pure joy at times, and is a load of fun. the different modes are great, offline ML is the shit with you and a mate, online ML is addicting, 2 v 2 with mates is great as well. I still say xbox 360 plays much more smooth and more responsive then ps3....

Its definitely the closer of the two titles to a realistic outcome but even that's only offline, once online its a awful game.

After more than 250 games....i wonder if they ever tested this game at konami. This game is a big bug itself. I dont get it why have they released such a sh*t game like this. Its not bad but these annoying things makes it horrible. If konami not gonna change its attitude to make a game without bugs i will stick with fifa next year because this year its really promising and im tired of waiting another year and hoping for that konami will make it this time. I have been waiting for 4 years for a decent game like pes 6...geeeeez for 4 years. Im out of patience.

If you played 250 games it's hardly that flawed.

Are cutbacks still considered cheap goals in PES? I know in PES4 and the like it was almost an automatic goal, but in this one I find it takes more composure and skill to pull off. Unless you're referring to the horrible triple O smash-cross, that ricochets off a dozen legs into the net without any input needed.

I disagree.

I think PES 2011 is one of, if not the best online football game ever...
Most of the cheap tactics can be countered, and (although not to the extent they should) proper football decisions/tactics pay off.

They're still an ugly and cheap way to score in my opinion, but not so much a cheat as they were in PES of old and recent FIFA games...
The through ball button as a cutback is still too accurate, and yeah that whack-cross is an utter joke...

 So you've played 250+ matches and only now you decide to bash the game completely. You just had a bad match, happens to everyone :P

Its not so many if you think about it. Its just 2-3 matches per week since the release. And yeah i have lost today because these bugs but i have won many times thanks again to these bugs.
And i just keep getting back to play with this game because there isnt any other footy game out there that worth to try.
I play with pes because the online game but i think i'll forget that and i'll install that gameplay patch and play offline with one of the competitions...if i could. I always loved to compete in online but the game sucks bad without a patch.

How about being more specific rather than just saying things along the line of "the game sucks"? Doesn't really prompt a discussion does it?

And PES6 a better game than 2011, seriously?! :FAIL:

Cutbacks are still there and still cheap. there are clear balancing issues that make some silly formations work with the right players and someone who is remotely competent.

It's wrong to say this game is utterly broken online but there is a reason why pretty much every D1 player and MLO team uses much the same formation and the same attacking plans. You can play against them using football knowledge but that can only do so much when certain balances are off and stop certain footballing knowledge from holding true in application.

I trust Konami will see this and take the right steps for next year.

If you think FIFA is better then you should go play it. You have to be superhuman or in a meditative state not to get frustrated playing FIFA. That game is truly about the result and not about the joy of playing.
Online can be hit and miss but I think when it's hit, I've had some fantastic matches on PES 11. Never have that experience on FIFA unless I play 1 or 2 of my mates who play properly. Any news on that Xbox community that was set up? I should be getting my TV back this week so am happy to jump in and have a few games. I will need the practice after a 4 week hiatus!

You're leaving a game full of bugs to another one full of bugs. What's the point? :P

It's not easy finding a sports game that is bug-free tbh. Don't think that game exists, yet.

I say we should all stop taking games seriously and try enjoying them more. Maybe I don't make sense but tbh I can't be bothered pointing out bugs anymore. I barely play anyway and when I do I just want to enjoy. No time to nit-pick for me.

This is true but the bar was never set that high by either pes or fifa I cant help but compare both to a game like nba 2k11 and wonder why EA or Konami cant pull something like that off If Konami would make the right improvments we could see a great game in the future then again were talking about Konami who do something great in one game and remove it in the next I mean why is the training mode better in a game released five years ago

I personally dont have much problems with cutbacks and low crosses they are both annoying but its possible to defend against Its not as bad as the lobbed through ball in pes 5 from the back where you could put a player 1 on 1 with the keeper which was something impossible to defend against

I am more annoyed by sliding tackles and speed merchants both very easy to use and dont require much effort to be good at
despite this I still enjoy the game

9/10 low crosses I can deal with, it's as simple as using super-cancel to put someone in the way of the cross and then mashing the clearance button, but every so often even though your player is right there to make the clearance, he will not respond to your commands, either leaving the ball to get through to an opponent in the middle, or deflecting it into their own goal (or for a corner which results in a goal)...

The through-ball cutbacks are again simple to cut out in theory with super-cancel, but are prone to the same issue, with players letting the ball literally roll over their toes rather than intercepting them.

That's not to mention that both of them travel at a ridiculous speed with insane accuracy, and in the case of the low cross, even with players with poor crossing ability...

Both are stoppable most of the time, but there's times when they're not...

Well yea I guess there's a problem with both When some just try to use it over and over again because It could lead to a easy goal but its not bothering me to much at the moment

If you're only finding 1/10 where you can't deal with it, that's a stat most people would be happy with. But I don't think I've had that kind of ratio, even when my defending is working well. With lag etc online, there's not gonna be many times when you have the time to pick and choose your defender and align him properly to block the shot. It's something they have to implement better. Low crosses and cutbacks are a part of real football. Leave it in there but make sure it's still stat based and not something that can be exploited so easy. The own goals are the main problem. People just hit the crosses in knowing that even without any skill from their striker, the ball has a high chance of being deflected in from the defender! Most people apologise or say they were lucky...but then you get the odd prick who celebrates it with 100 "Goal" or "Nice Shot". #$%%^@#$ lol
