PES 2011 Discussion thread

Only if you play the Premier League. In some other leagues- including the two other biggest leagues in Europe, La Liga and Serie A - night games are far more common. Barcelona, for instance, play pretty much all their games at night, as do Real Madrid.

What they need to do is further tweak the settings so that different leagues have more individuality. If you're playing in England, yeah, most games in the day (but lots of rain and no blazing sunshine in mid-season). If you're playing as a big Spanish team whose matches are usually on TV (which is the main reason so many Spanish games take place at night) then you should be under the floodlights more often than not. It's not like this would be difficult to code.

Once, this was exactly the kind of thing that Konami never got right - I remember in some old PES games, the WEFA Cup final or whatever it was called (unlicensed Champions League) would always be in the afternoon. Terrible. They've sharpened this side of the game up a lot now, and they need to go the last mile.

Another thing like this - I've not played the English league, but is there a winter break in it? Cos there shouldn't be, obviously. It's easier for Konami to sync everything up in Master League if they standardise this stuff, but it's just laziness really, and it wouldn't be hard to get it right.

Also, why does it never rain in the Champions League?

How about they let us choose!

One thing i really find difficult to understand is the gauge for assessing attributes and how they make an overall rating.

It causes a bit of havoc in the game as it is currently especially when you select the pick based on ability method because it selects players like Gabriel Milito over Pique because he is rated much higher even though overall stats wise Pique is a better player. Same with Michael Owen who despite being grossly overrated is better than Hernandez.

I know they're trying to emphasize particular stats that matter considering a players position and that is probably a good thing but it can be a bit of an issue when it tones down players who are overall pretty solid but don't excel in something specific.

I still think PES worked better without the overall rating thing altogether, when it relied on you viewing the individuals stats together. It was slick, you could read basically read all the stats on one screen when comparing.

They really need to add the option of leaving your ML team and move on, Its more fun to be a "Mourinho" than a "SAF" for some.

Just wondering, what camera do you guys tend to use? I've tried pretty much all of them and I find they all don't give me the view I want in terms of showing me a lot of the pitch. A player crossing from the upper side of the screen means I can't see most of the penalty box, which is a nightmare. Is there any solution for that?

I'm at the moment using wide locked on the player, which gives me the most view of what I need most of the time.

I had to edit the camera like the link below or else i couldn´t play the game.

now the game is much better!

I almost feel like crying, reunited with my old ISS heroes Ronaldo and Carlos, only to have them both quit Corinthians :(

Don't worry, they probably won't do a squad update on the Libertadores teams...

Iarley is better in the game, anyway. Every time I've played with Corinthians, he's been a marvel while Ronaldo has wheezed around doing next to nothing. Which is odd, because his stats suggest Konami think this is still 1997.

Hey guys! I have the EUR version of the game but i need the english language for the ps3! I didn't find any working links for the dt05_e.img file. Can somebody put some working links for the language file? Thank you!!

I'd really like set pieces reworked for 2012. Set-pieces are such a major factor in today's game, many tight contests are often decided on a set piece and for some teams its their main weapon.

* currently COM freekicks which are not direct shots are terrible and usually end up being overhit and going out for a goalkick.
* would like to see those dangerous inswinging freekicks which sometimes result in a direct goal as the keeper is too busy worrying about someone getting a touch.
* keepers to come and miss crosses, come and punch crosses, stay on their lines depending on real life skills/tendencies.
* I don't mind the new penalty system or view but I find the COM keeper stays rooted on the spot too often instead of diving. COM penalty takers also hardly ever shoot high. Add these together and penalties become too easy.
* we can choose who goes up for corners, why cant we choose who stays back? been caught on some stupid counter-attacks because the AI decided keeping only 1 defender back would be fine.
* rework lay-off freekicks
* implement short corner routines, you'll see these so often late in games when teams just want to keep the ball in the corner.
* seems like everyone can do a long throw, making the long throw special skill pretty redundant. there should be a more obvious difference between those who can and those who cant.
* in fact re-work throw ins completely, there is absolutely no movement and options are very limited.
* in game plan you can select FK, PEN and COR takers but cant designate a throw in taker. Stupid, if you play against Stoke and they get a throw-in in the final third, Delap will not be taking the throw unless he is specifically playing SM on the side the ball has gone out.
* let me reduce numbers in my wall, I don't need a 3 man wall for 45m freekicks

Thinking and writing that has really got me annoyed at Konami because some of these things are so simple, obvious and important yet I'm afraid a lot of them wont be looked at.

A lot of people are now just basing who the best players are on their overall stat. On the PESGaming forum there is a list players to get in the master league and all they seemt to talk about is the overall stat, which doesnt give anywhere near as good a reflection of who the best players are for each position

There are some defenders in the game with high stats and who are poor. When I look at getting defenders I look at them being mobile, strong and with a good defender stat. After that the passing speed players a big part as they can get the ball forward quicker.

I have been saying this for years and added it to any konami feedback forum there has been.

Once you get past winning everything through building a team the game becomes less enjoyable. To be able to then move onto another team or league alltogether would great.

Ideally there should be manager rankings and if yoru doing well yoru offered better jobs culminating in internation teams and world cups.

Add this and the ability to set the time of day of each macth and I would be very happy

This is one of the things I would most like to see removed in PES2012. I realise it was probably introduced to provide a quick reference to the more casual player, but all it does is promote lazy team selection, something which I'm guilty of at times. I used to spend ages before games going through players stats and hexagons looking at their comparative strengths and weaknesses but the overall stat tries to make things more definitive than it should be.

The only reason I look at the overall ratings is to see every player's favourite position. It helps a lot at times.

I'd love to know whether Konami play their own game online, its a fucking joke that scum have mastered the art of GBH because they know that 9/10 the referee isn't going to do shit about it.

yeah its almost as bad as last year, slide attacks are 2 powerful in pes then need 2 make it harder

They should have showed some balls and kept the tackling system from the demo instead of listening to a few whingers and selling out on their original plan.

Yup, been saying that since the retail release. All they had to do was decrease the amount of tedious replays after every foul; something that a community member has since achieved. In the demo, the AI had to actually commit to a tackle to win the ball. In retail (especially on Pro and Top Player), the AI just has to run next to you (or in most cases behind you) and that magically results in loss of possession. It's a shame really.

the game has definitely beeing dumbed down in final release.

and my impression is that shooting has got worse after the patch, it seems player position and right timing are less important, especially with big players. Through balls seems more floty, but in general ball physics isnt' not as good as in the ps2 era.

The only possible explanation for replays after every foul is poor programming, so the replays just give them enought time to reposition the teams properly. even in the few occasions where you get a fast free kick it takes ages before the player actually kicks the ball. it is like wathcing it on the slow motion.

Have to disagree with this I actually had no problem with shooting before the patch I remember almost every shot I would shoot from distance would land in goal suddenly after the patch It became more difficult it could be my imagination, but player positioning and timing are still very important Shooting is actually one of the things in game I have no problems with

If they'd kept the foul system from the demo, online would be a very different place.
Definitely.

Playing my mates on the demo (most of them don't own the full game) is a joy - they generally overcommit/pressure often, and I can either jink away from the challenges and tear through the defence, or manoever the ball into dangerous areas and then draw a foul (especially with Iniesta/D'Alessandro/Messi/Robben). Usually this allows me to score at least one goal and dominate the game.
In fact I've only lost to my mates about 5 times in probably over 50 games on the demo, these are experienced FIFA players as well, no mugs when it comes to gaming.

The full game is far more biased towards the defence - the (auto)tackling is seemingly far easier and the amount of fouls is much lower. I think the short passing may possibly be slightly more assisted in the full game too.
Just seems more "noob-friendly" in general, and that's disappointing.

In the full game, I generally have less success in multiplayer, with games being far more balanced between "gamers" and "footballers", although I still end up winning more often than not, I have to sacrifice the silky dribbling for more quicker passing to players in space and don't score such a large variety of goals.

Another thing that may be a placebo effect - R2 controlled shots from distance seem less powerful in the full game.
I've scored one with Villa (vid below), and scored a sweet goal with Messi on the demo a few days ago, beating a couple of players with R2 dribbling, then bending it into the far corner from about 25 yards with the keeper flat-footed.
R2 shots are delightful from within or just outside the box, especially with the technique players like Del Piero, but it's rare to trouble the keeper from any sort of range.
Maybe it's because they were with world class Barcelona players rather than the MLO/Coventry players I usually control on the full game...

That goal;
YouTube - PES 2011 - David Villa curling strike

Don't get me wrong, PES 2011 is still a footballer's game, unless the "gamer" knows the game inside out and has played it a lot. When I'm on form, I'm capable of beating D1 players online who have a win% of about 70% after 1000+ games, in no other football game has that been the case for me, even PES5.
In PES5 it was the long chipped through balls from out wide with Beckham/Ronaldinho, PES6 I'd get raped by Adriano/Inter/cutbacks, FIFA 08-10 I'd get raped by speed demons/ping-pong passing/pressure/finesse shots. 2011 has the speed merchants and at times unstoppable passing moves, but whenever I concede I can usually look at the replay and find something I could have done to prevent it, there's far less rage involved this year :P.

I'm still really enjoying PES 2011, probably because I havn't overplayed it, but Konami could go on to produce a spectacular simulation next time around, if they don't give in to the demands of the casual players.

I played online for the 2nd time ever (in the history of any PES game) the other night, I was just looking for a fun friendly well rounded game.. I picked Liverpool, the other guy chose Barcelona.
Apart from being a cut back queen, thats all he did, ran the ball with Messi, to the byline, cut back for a shot, h also took to mega-pressuring my player the second i get the ball so had no time to do anything other than ping pong pass 1-2's up the field.
he then nullified that threat by as soon as my player passed the ball then started his run, he slide tackled my player off the ball making the run, thus cutting out the passing option.
In a real game that would have been a red card, he did it 20 or so times, never one foul!!!!! ridiculous!!!

Great Goal with Messi there Rob, when you use R2 for dribbling do you hold R2 all the time or just squeeze it as u go to jink past a player using the Left stick?!?!
