PES 2011 Discussion thread

Actually I was meaning to ask, when playing a Copa campaign, is there any way whatsoever to make the form of your players better? It's getting ridiculous now, every match I've played throughout the early stages of the tournament has seen 90% of my players either on blue or purple arrows, whereas the opposition is almost all on gree, orange and red. Why is the game doing this?

I know there are ways to eliminate this in ML with coaches, as well as how players are settled etc, but in the Copa it's a basic mode with seemingly nothing else to do other than select your team and play. Yet the entire squad are consistently way off form. All the players are in their correct positions so there's no other reason I can see why every match leaves me at a great disadvantage. Even the likes of Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos can't even control the ball properly when they're on purple arrows.....

Are you sure it's just not for away legs LTFC?

I had a rant on a similar line of thought when the game was released claiming form was broken, until someone pointed out it's like that to simulate home advantage. Generally it balances out as in the home matches you should have mainly reds and oranges.

Not a fan of it myself though I have to say.

Anybody notice that the ML simulated scores seem to correlate directly to the length of game time you select?
I had been playing 20 minute games and noticed that my team total goals was far behind the leaders, despite averaging a little over 2 a game. I then began to track scores from other games and discovered most falling in the 4-2, 5-3, 6-1 range.
I decided to switch the game time to 10 minutes to test it and lo and behold, most of the simulated scores were 0-0, 1-0 and an occasional 2-1.
I then switched to 25 minutes and simulated scores were thru the roof, 6-4, 7-2, 8-1!
Anybody else experience the same or am I just on a bad trip??

I've experienced the same thing. Playing 10 min games (US PS3) in a fairly new ML campaign, I've noticed that the league goal tallies are down compared to my old ML campaign (15 min games). For example, in that previous ML, Barcelona & Real Madrid typically finished their season with at least 90 goals scored - sometimes over 100. At the end of the first season of my new ML, they scored in the upper 70s and look to be on pace to do so in my 2nd season. I've noted similar drops (proportionally speaking) for the other league's top finishers. I suspect that these final goal tallies will creep up somewhat as they did in my old ML campaign, but not probably not enough to match the 15 min totals. I'll have a better idea about all of this as I progress through my new ML campaign.

One other note. Based on my experience thus far with 10 min games, I'm confident in stating that the game "awards" better ratings for good performances compared to the 15 min games (one of the reasons why I decided to start anew). I've seen far more 7.0s and up given for quality performances than I ever did playing 15 min matches, and my current ML end-of-season average player ratings have supported this observation (comparing the averages with those from my old 15 min ML campaign saves).

***********

Switching topics, I don't know if this has been brought up before, but there are actually more youth prospects available in Master League than the 10 listed under Personnel. To find them, do an Advanced Search for 15-20 year olds, sort the results by Club and either scroll down to the bottom of the results or re-sort in a different order to find them at the top. These youth prospects will almost certainly be lower rated than the ones chosen under Personnel, but you might find some of them worth keeping and developing (especially if you start with the Konami defaults).

Played some Offline ML for the first time over the weekend - was co-op with a mate as Coventry in the Championship on Daymos OF V2, Top Player, low transfer frequency.
We started with a ridiculous amount of money, about £37m - but only signed two players (Greg Halford and Nacer Barazite) so as not to make it too easy.

There were some player switching issues, but I don't remember a PES (or a FIFA) with flawless player switching, especially in co-op - after a few games we kind of got used to it.

I've made a few edits to the Championship sides tactics, and corrected some player attributes so that they are (imo) more accurate (plus I had to create Marlon King from scratch as he wasn't in the OF, think I did fairly well :)))), and it provided a pretty good challenge without feeling like cheating.
There was one game against Cardiff where we were 2-0 up from a realistic scrappy goal from an early cross and a tricky McSheffrey dribble followed by a clinical finish.
Cardiff hit a long ball up to Bellamy who managed to get in behind, a mistimed tackle allows him the space to whack it home... 2-1, it was at this point the momentum of the game completely changed, Cardiff playing much more confidently, outplaying us to grab two more goals and close out the game...
Usually this would result in anger, but I actually enjoyed the game, and as I said, didn't feel cheated! :)

We're 7th after 10 games - it sucks how the football league playoff system isn't in the game so it's just the top three who are promoted :(.

My mate scored two good goals - a low drive from distance with Carsley which left the keeper flat-footed and a perfectly placed free kick with Clingan which clipped the bar, might upload them :).

Also played some Champions League exhibition matches, the presentation and atmosphere of those games is great! It was a nice touch how when we played Celtic v Rangers, Jon Champion commented on it being an Old Firm derby game, I didn't know those phrases were in PES' commentary!

Hi guys, I am making a serie of videos where i will talk about some gameplay elements that are really in need for a change, but also too show some love to Konami and long term add ins that are all extra's.
this is the first episode! all about gameplay....

YouTube - PES Plan 2 Konami! Episode 1 - Gameplay

Pardon my dutch accent but the visuals speak for themselves!
Share this, Comment on the video if you know some more, Or you maybe even already ever made a video about gameplay things that are a vital part too the game.

Enjoy!

Really excellent video, Spooky. Make sure you forward it on to Jon Murphy if you haven't already done so.

Oh, and your English is better than many native Englishmen.:))

Good video, I agree with most of it (except for maybe the penalty view, and as Jamezinho said, your English is very good! :)

The R2 controlled shots are a bit weak with not enough curl, but I have hit the odd sweet strike with it, but usually I just try them when one-on-one and aiming for the far corner, or when I want to try a classy finish.
Yesterday I hit a side-footed shot with Marlon King from 25 yards which curled away from the keeper and struck the far post, but they are very rare.

But I want to be able to score goals like this;
YouTube - Coventry City v Sunderland 06/07 - Stern John goal

Create half a yard, then let rip in a controlled fashion :D.

The penalty view is down to preference I guess but I'm sure if it was put to a vote then PES fans would vote overwhelmingly in favour of the old behind the player view. I think it just makes sense. Goal-kicks and free-kicks are taken from behind the player so penalties should be no different.

Perhaps an option to select side-on or behind player would be the best way forward?

Spot on.

players must have more room to move for a flowing gameplay, in pes 2011 players are tackled nearly in every situation this seems to be over realistic, and also when nearly every year the gameplay is changed it is so emoying to get use to the gameplay, gameplay must remain static not changed but improved

I'd want Konami to get rid of the through ball button. We have better manual passing now so no need for the through ball button now. It's a cheap and easy way out.

It's not so bad when playing at home, but still not right. I've also noticed that away matches make most of your players off form, which is a really cheap way of trying to simulate the added difficulty of playing away from home.

Ideally, and I'm sure it did it in older PES games on the PS2, but away matches should just make the AI that bit harder. Hell, even script the game a little more so that refs are more biased, whatever. But the current way of doing it doesn't make much sense. The best players in the world can still perform to the top of their ability when away from home, but by PES making most players on blue or purple arrows, the game is restricting your top players from ever being able to perform. Sure, you can still score etc, but you just can't do stuff you could if their form was a little better.

By making the game harder in other ways, you would have a greater challenge away from home, but still can have those players who can make the difference when things aren't going your way. This form system merely prevents your players from doing anything but the most basic of things, while the AI actually remains the same. It's unbalanced. Instead of being under pressure, sometimes losing, sometimes drawing, sometimes your top players being able to produce something out of nothing against the run of play, the game actually makes it so that away matches are a dull stalemate or uninspiring win. The AI plays in the same way it does when you're at home, and the game disables your players from doing anything approaching skillful. So the AI still sits back for 90% of the match, and you stuggle to put passes together.

I mean according to PES rules, there's no way that Gareth Bale could have dismantled Inter on his own at the San Siro, purely on the basis that Spurs were away from home, not to mention already 4-0 down. Better write off his hat-trick then.

Could someone give me a tip or two on how to tighten up my defence via game plan screen? I play either in 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formations. In 433 i use two CM's and a DM in the middle, one CF and two wide supporting strikers while in 4231 I use a two DM's two wide attacking mids, a CAM and a striker.
I've been using these formations and all was going rather well but have hit a very bad patch in ML and the last game in FA cup against some lower tier minnows made me shut down the game after being 0-2 at half time.
Something is wrong, I've tinkered with settings and made it even worse.

Oh and Champions league is bloody hard.

Anyway rather than debate about Fifa somebody tell me whether this game is worth getting again on PS3 (which i bought last week). Are the custom option files really that great? I hear goalgerds is supposed to be great.

I work with Goalgerd and I am responsible for the game play changes in our option file.

The option file for this year is nearly completed. There is a number of beta versions about. The game play is slightly slower, but players move better and the game is more fluid. Game are also a lot more realistic as the opposition will play a lot better.

I have been testing the beta with a number of half seasons in the master league and struggled to get mid table on Top Player. I noticed though, that the game starts off less responsive when you select a master league game to an exhibition game.

The worst thing however, which is in original game is that forwards take up poor positions. I have tried to get around this by adding skill cards to a lot of players in the game and imroved forwards again.

I will have a new, finished option file out within the week.

That's cool thanks for the response, sorry i forgot to mention your name too as i knew it was partly yours too. I have been following your thread on pesgaming.com and i applied the latest edit file for my game. It's pretty good but i've only played two games so far so i need to delve more into it in order to fully appreciate it.

If they tightened up and almost perfected manual passing (angles, speed and what not) then i'd fourth this.

great video, better than that other guys who came across as a moaner! I replied on youtube that i disagree with 1 and 21, but i agree with the rest! not so much the AI being too attack minded since again it's down to the tactics which aren't setup properly!

Also in other news, that Barcelona tactic i created in the JUST Pes thread will hurt people emotionally, i feel, like i've been viscosity raped, i was 7-1 in a 25 minute match I was away to Barca using Ajax

i never been so helpless in a match :(

If they tightened up and almost perfected manual passing (angles, speed and what not) then i'd fourth this.

On 10 mintue matches it is

on 25, 30 mintues it dosen't fucking work

Hey Skooky, remember me? We had some great games on PC PES6. Just want to say i think your video is great and i hope someone at KONAMI sees it as i've given PES2011 another chance in recent weeks on Masterleague online and i've given up on it now for all of the reasons in your video. I gave up patching PES 2 years ago too.

I'm actually almost enjoying FIFA11 on PS3 at the moment and i never thought i'd ever say that.

But like we all know, nothing compares to PES5&6

i really miss the animation where players were stretchered off the field, or players struggling in pain while running injured! why did they take it out???

Scored a goal exactly like that with Amauri, R2 shot as well :CONFUSE:

Your not actually very good at this game are you...

Are you a happy man outside of gaming.. you sound a bit of a misery mate, these are the opposite of my experiences, where PES has had a fantastic comeback, MLO is an exceptional achievement and the master league offline is brilliant as always...

You think it too easy, well try downloading a champs option file and starting a master league offline on top player and watch as you get taken apart...

Offline is easy, especially after you learn how to deal with real-world online players. I'm actually saddened to see the things that work in this game in order to beat opponents competitively. Clearing balls from your area works by holding down the cross button and seeing your defender clear a ball all the way to the opponents penalty box with no angle or space for such a comedic clearing.

Crossing is no where near as effective as holding down the "through pass" button or 3x tapping the cross button, your attacker will either push it in or you'll watch as your opponent helplessly sees his player knock it in for an own goal or a cross.

The tactics formation of every single team in the game is ineffective as you'll be forced to tinker with the formations screen in order to get your players to make runs and be more perceptive.

The sadistic referee's do everything in their power in order to ignore blatant fouls, player trips (which are never called), and the awful theatrical animation make detecting actual fouls even harder.

Oh and the shooting, ha ha! You can't make heads or tails of this one. Every single time you press the shoot button, you might as well roll some dice, wait for the stars to align, and hope lady luck is on your side because you have nothing to do with what is going to happen.

My criticism is fueled by the numerous online matches I've played, so any one who has played mainly offline won't get me at all; this game hasn't aged like wine, but I know Konami won't be able to botch it any further.

I get you

Yes, the servers are still shit it seems :) the last time i played it was a total through ball fest! Mainly because of the horrible lag!

Anyone having problem with the AI especially in BAL? My team is filled with retards that can't string a pass and when they get the ball they just run straight to the opposition. I don't remember the teammate AI in PES2010 is this bad.

I've experienced that a lot in BAL, things improved when I moved to AC Milan but the honeymoon period is well and truly over and they've reverted back to doing stupid things.
