PES 2011 Discussion thread

I've never seen this formation so early in a game, without a goal conceded. Very strange indeed. I cant understand what would trigger this as it cannot be Management Edit. :CONFUSE:

Also, play on Top Player if you want a proper challenge. You'll soon see the CPU AI put up an offensive fight then.

Yeah in fairness the AI is a lot more offensive than older PES games. You actually occasionally come up against some very well pulled off attacking moves on Top Player. Still not enough for my liking though.

Anyone heard a date yet for the new transfers update will be out? I forgot how long it took last year, too. Hmm. Hope it's before the end of Feb.

I saw such super defensive three-DMF formations in BAL mode, but only in closing stages of the match when CPU wanted to protect the lead. Which isn't that odd. But doing it so early in the match ... wow.

Funny thing is, if only the AI would realise that I'm actually pretty shit at the game then it might try and be a bit more adventurous :P

I play pes on the xbox360

yesterday I tried playing on 740P, normaly I play on 1080p (my tv is full HD)

the game felt more smooth on 740P esspecialy online the difference is huge

is this just me having a placebo effect or any of u guys feel the same

Oddly, I won the game 3-2 because my goalkeeper bizarrely wandered up for a corner and planted a header into the net, but how on earth do you combat such bizarre formations?
An eight man defence? Sometimes the AI in this leaves a lot to be desired. If all it can come up with is packing the defence and hoping occasionally to cheap a raking, 70 yard through ball then something's wrong. I can't remember the last time I didn't finish a match with at least 60% of the possession, and at least double the amount of shots on target, yet the scores are often pretty even. I do enjoy the game for a large proportion of the time, but times like these remind me of how limited the AI is in terms of putting up a realistic match against you. Yes, YOU can do realistic things in this game, but for the most part all the AI can do is concede possession for 90 minutes and hit you on the break. It's a little monotonous at times.

The early cross is your friend against teams with tight defences :)

I tried 720p and was trying to look for smoothness improvements but didnt really notice anything. But it was offline that i played. might depend on your tv. i have the xbox set to 1080p so that IT does the upscaling rather than the TV because the TV processing might add some lag....as far as im aware. but stick with whatever looks better for you mate. if its 720p, go for it!

Great game as I've said before. However, one thing I cannot understand is how on Earth did this beautiful game go from being silky smooth online to a laggy piece of crap. Don't get me wrong, lag is not horrific where there is constant teleporting and freezing. However, it is by no means "smooth" and a far cry from the glorious days of smooth online fun.

There is still that 1 to 2 second delay in player response when a button is pressed in all the games I played. This infuriates me since it makes me feel helpless and not in total control of my players. This really makes it unplayable for me unfortunately.

Do all of you experience this or is it me? I play it on the 360 with a direct cable connection from my console to the modem. Is there something I'm doing wrong or something I need to adjust in the in-game settings?

I want to really enjoy online like years past. Why has it been so hard for Konami to fix this aspect of the game? why.....Online is where this game had life for me.

Oh well, hopefully someone out there can prove me wrong and help me fix this problem if indeed there is a fix.

I'm going to up the difficulty to Top player today.
My first week with PES ever and I've only lost 1 game in ML out of around 20. I'm on Professional now. I honestly hope that it ups the challenge a bit because as things stand it is just a tad too easy and therefore it's not as much fun.

if that doesn't work, you could try to win by playing a totally different style or with totally different formations. not saying you spam any particular methods to help you win, just saying a gamestyle change might be worth a try?

Some guy played 5 CB's and 3 DM's against me to prove a point or something. I scored by doing this so i'll back this up, especially if the person you're playing against hasn't learnt to master switching players at the right time.

I might give that a try, but honestly only super quick counter attacking play gives me that fun-kick I'm looking for.
Invite them on, soak up the pressure and then punish them without mercy.

This is the beauty of this game! i like using heavily defensive formations but what this game does in it's balance is totally stifles you of making any sort of proper attack!

Unlike the other game where you know what happens.

Errr one stupid question guys as I'm new to the game so save me from searching through gazillion threads to find it.

Is there a way to import Championship and npower leagues 1 and 2 into the game and how to link them together in the Master league so you advance from one into the other?
You know what I mean, right?

I do think PES still lets people play the long ball game up to three forwards too easily - in that respect and with some of the passing you can achieve (which does get a bit pingpongy when you use good teams) it can echo some of FIFA 10. But it does generally do a much, much better job of letting you counter such formations and beat people who play wry predictably.

fair enough mate. goodluck!
not sure about the linking of leagues into master league question you asked. im setting up an Australian league with some Asian Champions League teams for an offline master league but havent tried linking them up to other leagues just yet.

Re: DEFENSE

can somone please help me......i have the filing that im missing something....when i'm playing On Line the opponent always manage to be close to every player of mine (and I cant or dont know how...) and still the ball before i have the chance to react.... (or what i'm not doing right????)
or example: I'm chasing the player with the ball i'm right next to him, i'm tapping the X (pressure) button and the deffender won't send his leg to the ball.....and i know it's possible....others are doing it to me...so what am I doing wrong???:CONFUSE:

someone?:CONFUSE:

how can i disable the player names over the cpu teams heads?
(if i have them over my players)

i cant find it and i need to know coz i dont know if i have the 24. nov. update or not
its so weird if u install the game fresh after all the updates were released
u cant know it..
it shows 2.00 and 1.3 if u start the game up and online too but i cant find the option lol

what is your teamplay slider for defence-line and pressing and compactness?
and what is your formation?
and also do u have long ball activated via dynamic tac. editor?

sounds like old behaviour in defence
if u already are pushing X and then want to tackle him this wont do it mate
press running stick towards your goal first and then towards the player to tackle(while holding X)

ML offline will get tougher, the AI has an ability to learn aspects of your play style, the beauty of PES is everything can seem to be going perfectly and then you go 5 games without a win, it can also work the other way.

I play the game with manual pass for 90% of play and I only use manual cross, for me this makes the game the most challenging rewarding football game ever, you could also try this.

PS - Get ready for some PES RAGE on top player. Oh yeah try broadcast cam as well, another way to make the game more challenging and it also looks stunning.

I'd argue the opposite tbh, especially if you're using particularly poor passers of the ball as you're able to play above their own abilities if that makes sense.

I know, right? Use Senegal if you wanna show how good you are at PES, and please post some videos of you scoring Barca-esque goals.

Manual pass is affected by stats, I don't use it constantly I just find using through ball and default pass too easy for my liking, I dont find the individuality is lost either with manual play I see your point though and its something I found with fifa, every player has pretty much the same manual pass ability.

I haven't really made my mind up about Manual Pass tbh, in some ways it's nice to be able to slip in a ball that wouldn't have been possible otherwise. But I still don't believe it's that impacted by stats, I'm using the defaults in my ML, and it's very noticeable when using the CBs since a normal X pass will be a slow hit or miss delivery, where as with manual pass you can play a fine weighted delivery into feet regardless of who you're controlling.

i really don't like to use manual passing atm

I kind of find passing a little bit too fast in general for my liking (as in the speed of the pass) but if anything manual passing makes it even faster imo. They should definitely stick with the idea and refine it because it's not a bad thing.

I do think PES still lets people play the long ball game up to three forwards too easily - in that respect and with some of the passing you can achieve (which does get a bit pingpongy when you use good teams) it can echo some of FIFA 10.

I think this is in part due to the speed the ball travels at with long balls which is echoes my point about passing in general being to fast (maybe a bit to do with the attackers responding quicker than defenders too sometimes).

Maybe it's just me though? I like to play a slow game but it always inevitably gets sped up because of the passing speed and sometimes feels not so great. Then again i find most things in the game feel better when you're playing faster/more attacking.

Passing speed is something you have to be very careful with. For me I agree it is a bit too fast at the top end of the scale and some of the angled passing keeps too much speed and accuracy. At the same time though it's more about tweaks than drastic changes. FIFA 11 is a cautionary tale for what happens if you slow it down too much (and have the pitch friction too low) - you get no variation, no ability to make space, a big reduction in the ability to pick out particular players running at an angle alongside defenders and much less sense of fear of an opponent with time to pick his pass.

The passing with lower end players is great IMO. It's only when you get higher up the scale that it gets a bit much and invites these 4-2-4 formations.

It's par for the course Rom. When you deal with the cream of the crop in a stat based environment, it will always have an element of that 'ping-pong' feel about it. Thats why lesser teams are where the realism is in PES.
