PES 2011 Discussion thread

Steekbal -

Have you not released your ML players via Squad List to aquire their market value and put some cash in the bank ? Thats a must. Release your ML players, get the cash, then buy some decent strikers and midfielders. It will help massively.

I have - got myself Toivonen, Khlosneri, Dzagoev, Viktor Elm and some French DM whose name I forgot, he had the covering card and very good response, tenacity and teamwork stats. After playing for a bit I also got a few fake CB's and it has been going a bit better.

Still immensely annoying to come up against much better teams even when they're in the same division but you make good money even if you lose. You can tell why they're in a lower division as they simply aren't that good but sometimes there's just nothing you can do about a throughball, and Forlan and Defoe simply will not miss when they're one on one. Especially not with Ivarov in goal :P

Having said all that it's hugely satisfying when you do grind out the win after a dogged defensive performance. Frustrating you opponents and hitting non-stop long balls has never felt so good in a football game:WORSHIP:

Think I'll save up for a top class striker as I'm getting fed up with missing the few chances I get.

Do you not release sprint when you go to press shoot ?

Sometimes I do, sometimes not, in certain situations there isn't enough time to let go of all of the sprint while wanting to shoot. Not every shot comes after a long deliberate planning/dribbling, situations come up when I have to quickly run and quickly shootand then the "Dink"-shot comes out, which is infuriariting as it destroys quite a few good opportunities.

As far as I'm aware, you can even shoot with sprint. Your problem is definately tapping sprint when your filling your shoot power-bar up.

Bingo, that's what I'm saying all along, I want to tap sprint while shooting and I would like the game to let me do that, either by giving me the option to disable the dink-shot or to remap it some way differently.

I have never had this issue, ever. I do use the dink shot quite alot, but I cant remember initiating it when I dont want to.

Unfortunately it happens for me quite regularly, I would guess in about 50% of goalshot-opportunities. The other 50%-shots come out of situations where I have place and time to plan the shot in a good way.

But thanks for the info that the dink-shot can't be disabled.

Konami should look into it for the next patch, an option to remap that shot or disable it would come very handy.

After a week of not playing PES I decided to go back online and have a go. I went into MLO and got matched against a Russian guy, went into the gameplan an he had 3 strikers all positoned inside my box and 2 AMFS really high up. Game starts and I am pleasantly surprised that he is not a pressure and sprint whore, we had a good game and it ends 1 - 1.
After really enjoying the game for the first time in weeks I got another game. Into gameplan again and he has 3 strikers all positioned inside my box and a different variation of the midfield 3. Game starts and he is also not a pressure or sprint whore, I couldnt believe my luck. I am able to keep possession and create a few chances before he gets a goal from a poorly defended through ball, a few mins later he cuts it back from the byline to his CF who is stood on the penalty spot with an acre of space around him and taps it in. After kick off I get the ball into his box where it is intercepted and he then proceeds to do nothing but play the ball around his back 4. He did this for about 10 game mins, enough for me to see that he had no intention of playing properly now so I quit.
I decided to carry on and get another game. Went into gameplan, surprise, surprise 3 strikers inside my box, 1 AMF up high, 1 CMF in the middle and a LMF, probably the strangest formation I have seen yet but I thought it would be easy to play against with soo much space in midfield. Kick off and he is a sprint and pressure whore, He nicks the ball and plays it out to the LMF who runs to edge of the pitch and the crosses it into the box. This is was his only tactic, for the whole game this is all he did.
After these 3 games I had to turn it off, online gamers make a very convincing argument for eugenics.

Hi all. Has anyone else experienced any problems with the sideways dribble on the PS3? I quite like using it on the touchline to get away from defenders but after a press r2 to do it, it seems to not react tp any other button pressing for about 2 seconds. Which means defenders, especially on MLO, have the time ti take the ball away from me. Does anyone have any help to what I can do to stop it?Thanks

Yes mate its crap and I'm not sure you can do anything other than stop using it to solve the problem. Maybe someone like Klashman who is very good at dribbling will tell you otherwise though.

What team are you using ? How far through your season are you ? What level is your fitness coach at ?

I'm only halfway through season 1, playing as a div 2 team that I edited to make into my own team I support from the Blue Square Premier, and with the default ML players (Huylens etc).

As far as coaches etc are concerned, I've not had the funds to upgrade them yet. Starting with only 3 million is really hard! Signing a youth player who's any good costs you £500,000 in wages per season, leaving little money for coaches etc. I know you should get the coaching etc setup correct first, but the youth players were too good to not sign.

Is upgrading the coaches the only soluton?

Everything you have just said is the issue. Your right at the bottom of the food chain. In my opinion, what you have done is great, and easily the best way to play ML, starting at the very bottom. Doing it this way, you get to see and appreciate everything as you progress. Albeit slowly. The problem you have is that your players are old, they dont have great form, and as the season rolls on, your lack of any real strength in depth starts to show its hand.

I had exactly the same problems with Boro last year in my ML, like you, starting in Division 2 with very limited funds. You probably have a Level 1/2 Fitness Coach and the same for your Club Doctor. Your coach isnt getting your players fit enough, and then when they get injured, your Doc couldnt cure a cold. It's par for the course at that level. You have to rough it out unfortunately. I remember having a fantastic start to my season, but faded badly towards the end for all the reasons you have mentioned. It's realistic though, and you will see a huge difference when you upgrade your Club Staff. Try bringing some more Youth Players through to give you cover, that always helps. When you have a better Fitness Coach you start to see your players last the season duration better, and usually have at least green Condition Arrows.

It's hard bud, but fairplay to you, your doing it the hard way. Rest assured though, the satisfaction you'll feel as you build the quality of both your squad and staff, slowly but surely, could not be bettered. It's the time of the season you have to grind out results, steal a point here and there, and gut it out. Good luck though, it's one hell of a ride. I remember missing out on promotion to the EPL after my players faded badly down the final stretch. Purples and Blues every game, on top of injuries. I started my next season in Division 2, and I was pretty devastated to be honest. I then checked my fixtures only to find I'd qualified for the Europa Cup due to me finishing Runners-Up in the F.A. Cup. :WOOT:

Honestly, I was jumping around the front room. This was the first year the Europa Cup had been fully licenced and the presentation in the ML was incredible. I'll never forget those European nights, brilliant.

Henry. How the hell can you not have enough time to leave the sprint button?

Please do me a favour and forget that button exists. Trust me you will be surprised at the football game you find. Also, press R2 every time you trap and turn. Your game will be so satisfying, this I promise you.

@henrys hand - Using RT for sprint is most likely your problem.

I don't know exactly how it works, but RT is an analog trigger that has, let's say, 100 increments (100 being fully pressed down, 0 being fully released, 50 being half-way), the slightest change in the amount it's pressed down probably registers as another press of the button in PES, so unless you hold RT completely still when you shoot, you probably get a "dink shot".

Just a theory and probably explained poorly but I think it would make sense.

Haha that's good to know that the game will get better in that respect. I presume then that the form of your players is linked to your stamina and fitness. Every single one of my players end each match with literally no stamina left at all! That said, the stamina thing will improve of course, and it's like a breath of fresh air to play a football game that actually has stamina play a massive effect on the outcome of games. FIFA's stamina plays no part in the game whatsoever.

It's already great that the limited funds is really making me try and wheel and deal. In fact, I signed Palmeri from my youth team, and got an offer after just 16 appearances for over £1 million, which I couldn't turn down. I'm sure he'd have grown into a star, but I need to somehow save the money to be able to upgrade the club under the bonnet so to speak.

One other thing I really love about ML, starting at the bottom against random unknown teams, and with old and some inferior players, is that the crowds are half empty. I just love that. It'll really make winning promotion (whenever I do, I'm sitting in 5th at the halfway stage of the season on Professional level) feel just that more of a reward, playing to full crowds. I also can't wait to be in a position to sign some players, the difference between signing a known player should be amazing when compared to some of my default players!

I'm currently using the WEBN 4 option file, and have noticed that the Div 2 teams have all been changed, but are using names I don't recognise. Anyone know what teams these are?

Oh and I don't know if anyone else has noticed, particularly mfmaxpower as I know you play both games, but yesterday I popped FIFA11 back into my console for the first time in a month since playing PES, I can't believe how fast the game is on slow speed. It's absolutely lightning fast. PES' pace is so much more realistic, I had felt that the pace of the ball when you pass it was too fast with better players on PES, even a light tap of pass will result in a rocket pass, which is odd as the demo didn't do this, but I won't complain after having another go at FIFA. The players in that game can turn on the ball faster than any person should ever be able. The physics of the players' movement is all wrong, resulting in a blistering pace and people constantly bundling into each other. Pacing in PES is far better, amongst a lot of other things.

They have done you with Palmeri bud, you wouldnt be able to buy a better player for that money and he will be worth 5 times that in a few seasons. Never mind, you live and learn. ML in general is superb. When you can upgrade your Youth Academy to Level 3 or above, you will then see more Wonderkids coming through, without that level you will only produce average players at best.

Your probably better off posting in the ML thread though, there are some great veterans in there than could advise you along the way. I havent started one yet as I'm so busy with the other modes, and I'm still yet to try the new Bal. Hopefully I'll get around to both before PES 2012.

You really should get GoalGerds and Chimps File for the Championship Teams, it's so much better when you have a proper 2nd Division as it keeps the EPL realistic with every years subsequent promotions and relegations. Also, that huge Chants patch is a must for creating an amazing atmosphere, with both EPL and CC teams having their own chants. Playing away from home feels so authentic, especially if you add one of your own teams chants to each of the other teams. You then get your fans singing every now and again replicating your away support. Check the chants thread fro Neilez Chant Pack. ;)

Is Goalgerd and Chimp's OF based on the WENB one? Kind of a deal breaker for me. I've gone to a lot of effort to copy all those files across; I don't want to lose them just for the Championship.

V 1.02... RIP PES

I honestly thought on playing the demo and opening PES 2011 for the first time....WOW this is good. Total Freedom... Great Idea... Produced masterfully. Okay it had some bugs, through balls needed freedom, changing player needed tidying and the AI need to be more intelligent. BUT the game worked and was GREAT.

Version 1.02 has taken all that a way no longer are your passes directed by you. In fact a close looking at the controls will show you that now to have a free pass to anywhere you want you have to press left trigger. How is this an improvement on PES 10 (where you could do this with right stick).

I feel this is a complete fail by PES, a surrender at the last hurdle... Shame on anyone who had anything to do with this... I will be going back to version 1.00 until a new update sorts this out... Or I get bored and stop playing it completely.

I guess FIFA is now doomed to take over...

RIP PES

The usual hyperbolic statement that makes legitimate concerns seem like white noise.

I'm sure more than one person has noticed this, but when you set the AI to play against the AI, sometimes a loose ball will result in both teams standing off the ball. I was substituted during a BAL game, and the strangest thing happened. As I type this the ball has slowed to a stop, and there is no movement from either team right now. Just 20 something pairs of eyes looking at a motionless ball.

Holy crap did I ever notice this! Played a couple matches of FIFA yesterday and I thought I was going to go permanently cross-eyed from trying to keep up with the action! And I only play PES on 0 or -1, plus when it came out I originally thought FIFA's pace was just fine this year (at least on slow).

Without a doubt I prefer the pace of play in PES, though I'm sure it's just a case of getting used to whichever game and I'd probably be okay with FIFA on slow again if I played just FIFA for a few days. I just don't see that happening at the moment.

Just a theory and probably explained poorly but I think it would make sense.

I use sprint mapped to R2, on both ps3 and 360, and I don't think I've ever had this problem. My guess would be it's all about how he's using sprint - as in he's probably using it far more than he should. I suggest using sprint more like a speed burst button and rarely hold it down but rather use it in taps, at least in the final third. If you just tap sprint then shoot you won't have this problem.

However, I would really like Konami to include more options for controller configurations in the future, so for example, switching a button for offense doesn't switch the corresponding defensive action. I'd also love for them to provide options with manual passing - if they can provide a manual button modifier why not also provide an option to just make passing manual. Hell, they could even do the reverse and provide an assisted pass modifier! PES is still too assisted for my tastes.

1.02 still feels TOO fast for me, can't understand how some people haven't noticed it. I do actually like the increased reaction times, as you can get passes out the feet much quicker and dribblings a dream. But as a direct result the flow of the game just seems so much more hectic now, a lot more difficult to slow it down in midfield which is a shame as before the pace was perfect IMO.
