PES 2011 Discussion thread

You cannot turn them on or off this year, however, they are automatically turned on (or off) depending on where you place the player in your formation. For instance, if you have a player who is registered at SS and has the Goal Poacher card, it will be (automatically) turned off if you play him as a CF.

I'm not sure if that example it 100% but the idea is that playstyle cards are turned off automatically when they no longer make sense for the current position.

lets say a CF with goal poacher card, he can play as SMF too and there he cant have goal poacher card, that is more correct

the cards are avalaible generally for a position, it cant be that a goal poacher card is not avalaible for CF

I have just remembered something that happened to me last night in a match. It was the first time I had ever seen it happen, and I must admit, it did take me by suprise, as the caution was issued a long time after the incident. Which for the record, I dont even remember happening. Anyway, D'Alessandro received a Yellow Card for some sort of infringement, it must have been a foul. Either way, the referee must have played the Advantage Rule, then carded D'Alessandro after, although like I say, it did seem a long-time after. I was quite shocked with the booking as it seemed to just come out of no-where. Nice touch, although I wish he had shown me a replay of the incident as well.

Great run prompts, this is what happens when Konami listen to jokers on the forums, they put time and effort into something that is not needed and take resources away from things that desperately need fixing.

Agreed. And I've been playing playing primarily FIFA the last few years and I have absolutely no idea what people are having problems with. If anything, work on player movement but I'm fine with how it is now.

Fewer cutscenes though? Yes please.

Stopped playing a MLO game halfway through and put the Spurs match on and I was immediately struck by how spot on Konami have got the dribbling and close control, it was like I was still watching my PES game at times. :WORSHIP:

It's genius. Every player dribbles differently as well depending on their stats :WORSHIP:

Looked like Inter was sleepwalking most of the game. I get the games on Fox Soccer Channel. Do you see full screen telecasts cause I only get the old fashioned 3/4 of my set with the black bars on either side. Nothing I do changes it.

Happened to me ages ago :D It's brilliant, added to the fact that I compare real life to PES instead of the opposite. I mean, I look at football differently now that PES got it's presentation "spot on". I often say "huh, that looked like PES".

I think that was the most exciting game I have ever played, it was just non stop action! I cant believe I didnt equalize, your keeper certainly made up for that mistake with the 3 or 4 consecutive saves he made from shots in the 6 yard box.

No mate pretty much all televised games are in 16:9 and HD these days. Great game, Spurs were just relentless in attack, if they had a better back 4 and striker I think they would be real contenders in all competitions.
I hope Bale stays in the Prem, I read that Barca have made their interest public.

I seem to score 90% of my goals from outside the area. I find there to be less variations of goals than the PS2 versions.

I also wish i could tell players to get forward, like with the old attack arrows (same with the defensive arrows).
'Opposite side attack' doesn't seem to exist as a tactic anymore, does it? I liked this, because i would often spot one of my wingers/SMFs breaking off and making himself available in space.

I find too much play goes through the middle and the midfield gets congested, as strikers come deep and don't make as many runs forward. I want my arrows back.

I was thinking the other day that I dont think I have scored the same goal twice :CONFUSE:

There is a tactic called "swap wings" that makes your wingers push into space on the flanks.

I agree midfield is too congested, I think it comes from the backlines pushing up too high and compacting all the players.

I'm getting a good variation of goals, and I'm scoring loads of tap-ins as well as long rangers. My HDD is already full of goal replays, even some that the CPU have scored!

great post, i sat down and played on top player at the weekend with the tweaked gameplay, have to say theres a real differnce in how the players feel, they are much more responsive and more individual than the default edit file, i also love the way fast attackers will now skin slow defenders just like real life, you got rid of the elastic band movement of defenders catching up with strikers no matter what the difference the speed and acceleration stats were between the players, i hit a tru ball to kalou and was in a foot race with carvalho with kalou having a 2 yard head start and i managed to beat him to the ball and he couldnt catch up,in the default file carvalho wold have got back and got kalou off the ball

its playing fantastic now and i urge everyone to try it out, cant wait til you have the full file finished:))

Cheers, getting the balance between having forward that don’t lose ground to slow defenders and keeping the game balanced is probably the hardest thing. Fortunately increasing the AI so they have far less chances to sprint threw on goal and slowing the passing down to a realistic rate seems to do the trick.
The French league and Dutch league are almost done. Not sure if I will do the championship or other European teams next

2 things happened in a game last night when i was playing a fellow like minded player.

1)The linesman had raised his flag for a offside call near the touchline. Me and my opponent were both chasing the ball which i won and the referee played the advantage and allowed me to advance a attack.

2) I was winning 2-1 in the same game and gave away a corner in the 90+ minute and low and behold his keeper came charging from the 18yd line and smashed a header past my keeper to level it at 2-2. Shocked, gobsmacked and then laughed.

After the game we both agreed neither incident would have happended on FIFA and that PES this year it definately has that "something"

But you can set your team up to attack wide thus making your SMF advance more Prof. I use this sometimes as a decoy because the defenders pull over to pick up the runner giving my AMF time to pick a pass to either him or my Striker

So no to changing net tension then?

Also, what's the best way to get more attackers in the box? Too often I'm sending in great crosses only for there to be no one making runs to get on the end of them.

Depends how your playing. Your have probably have a gameplan which gives you space from 23-18 yards where your shooting from!

I haven't scored too many from range, then again I'm a gooner and i try to walk the ball in!

I haven't scored many goals from outside the area. I do tend to agree that in this version scoring from down the middle seems to be the best way to score goals, even if you set your team attacking wide (what i usually do).

Until now the formation that suits me best is a very old fashioned 4-3-3. I'm rather effective with Valenciennes default formation aswell: 4-5-1 with Samasa as a lone striker. Valenciennes have a couple of great players by the way.

I've been reading this forum in the past days (from about page 480) and I'm really surprised of the stuff I've read, but I'm going to explain my thought because I'm sure there's more folks that think like me. First of all, so people know what my opinion is based on, I'm a PES fan since the very begining on Playstation, and I always considered FIFA a piece of garbage. I loved PES 6 (or 5, I don't remeber which one was it because I had all of them), I think the best football game ever made. I loved the gameplay (not perfect, but almost), the editing possibilities, and the Master League. My goal was always to make a winning team with only the fake young players that would come every season, making them evolve game after game.

All that said, I feel extremely disappointed with PES and Konami nowadays. Yeah, PES 2011 is a big improvement from the 2010 (that was a joke of a game), but still is veeeeery far from what it should be. And I'm not talking about the gameplay, which I would say is pretty good... when the game works. And that's my bigest complain here. The game is FULL, FULL, FUUUUUULLLLL of flaws and glitches that ruin any good moments that you can have. It's truly unbelievable. I've had the game for 2 weeks now, and played it A LOT (mostly online), and I'm about to give up on it and return it. Why? A I said, all this flaws ruin most of the games you play in every aspect. The shooting system is a joke, any defender runs faster than any attacker, offside many times is called for a player that has nothing to do with the play, almost no rule of letting the play continue when you're attacking and you get fouled if you keep the ball's possesion, passing system works sometimes and others does completely weird passes, players stuck to the ground when fighting for a high ball (yeah, even when you press R2), players that you can't control because they're stuck in some sort of stupid animation, player switching (many people complain about it, but for me is not one of the worse flaws), players that simply don't react to your orders like shoot or pass or they react 1-2 seconds late... and these are the ones that I can remeber now, but there are a lot more.

All these things don't happen all the time, but they happen very often, TOO often, and many times decide matches. You can be doing super well in a match, controlling the game, having a lot of chances to score (and of course missing a lot, but we can assume that it's for realism), and then the opponent scores thanks to whatever flaw comes up in his almost only chance. This happens ALL THE TIME. And the same when you attack, many times you have the feeling that you're not controlling what is happening, or that the goal you just scored (even a nice one) is not what or how you intended to do. And all this just ruins the satisfaction even for winning.

So my general impression is that this game has been released too early, because seems that no one tested it before, and all this glitches and flaws should have been corrected before making people pay $60 or whatever currency is in every country. Yeah, there might be updates, but I seriously doubt that they're gonna fix any of this flaws with an update...

And here comes the second point of my discussion. I'm really sorry to say this (it hurts deep inside), and I know the general opinion in this forum, but I have to be honest and say that FIFA 2011 is a better football game. I know it because I had for a week and returned it because I don't like the gameplay proposed in it, but I have to admit that FIFA's proposal is much better resolved than PES's proposal. They're different, yeah, and I like PES better, but all those flaws and glitches that I commented before almost don't exist in FIFA. The game itself is not as fun as PES 2011, I particularly hated how boring games turned out, with very few goal chances, but when you play it, it feels solid, accurate, responsive... unlike PES 2011. And I'm not saying it's perfect (as I said I returned it), but it has a better finished football proposal.

Well, to all of you who read until here, sorry for the long post! I just had to speak my mind and express my disappointment with this game. Thanks for reading!
