PES 2011 Discussion thread

I dont understand why anyone would want to start a ML with a team already in the Champions League and I guess with a real squad, the challenge and fun is in getting to this point not starting at it.

I hear this a lot, but whether it's FIFA or PES I think it's a challenge for each game to make it interesting to play as a top team in CM or ML. We shouldn't be criticizing people who choose Barca or Man Utd as much as asking Konami and EA to find a way to make their game modes more fun for fans of the big teams.

I'm like you, I love taking small teams and turning them into giants. For me that's where the fun lies. But I can understand how a diehard Barca fan wants to play as Barca.

So to me the problem isn't that people choose to play ML with Barca, but that ML isn't challenging enough to play as a top team. Whichever game is able to find a way to adopt their management mode so that it can be more fun to play as top teams will have an advantage.

In the FIFA forums one thing we've discussed is adding a scenario feature, which would work fine with ML too - basically imagine taking over Liverpool this year, where it becomes a fight for survival rather than a typical top-four finish. Or maybe taking over a club after a match-fixing scandal that sends you to the bottom flight, ala Juventus!

ML is legendary but there's still plenty of creative room to grow. That's my humble opinion at least.

This is for the option file that Goalged previously released, though you do not need to install the rest of the files to try the game play changes. This is just the edit data.

Only the teams in the Spanish, English and Italian leagues have been edited at this point, more to follow in coming weeks.

I agree, i never understand those people who play a ML with very big teams like Man UTd, Barcelona, Real Madrid...
The challenge is to lead a bunch of minnows to European glory. It's been ages since i have won the CL while playing PES. I remember once winning the treble with a Parma team, that must have been PES4...
Reached the semi-finals of the CL with Atalanta in PES6 and then got slaughtered by a very young Messi...

I'm exactly the same mate, i can't remember the last time i won a major trophy in PES, since i always pick small teams!

Here we go:

Don't know if that'll do the trick as i havent started a ML yet but worth a try. A friend pointed me to that at PESgaming.com: http://www.pesgaming.com/showpost.php?p=1673104&postcount=234

Thanks for the help but for me it didn't work. As an experiment I tried starting a ML with Tottenham, a team I haven't edited at all, and they start the ML with a budget of £86 million. WTF????!!!

What's wrong with my game?!

I've got an option file loaded, the original WE Blog one with minimum changes to just the Premier League teams. I assume Spurs weren't affected by this because they already had the proper names, kits etc being licenced and all.

Seriously, first FIFA and now this. Is no football game safe from glitches and bugs now?

Yes.

Le me know what you think

man take a week off now for the feedback,i want to tidy up a few errors ive come across at my end and i can send you back the 1.1 gameplay edit file some time next week, i dont think the all star teams are a good idea now as it means moving south american teams into the other euro leagues meaning they could end up in CL and EL competitions

ive added new links to the pesgaming site with gameplay edits:))

I've somewhat come to the disappointed conclusion that i'm not interested in ML this year. To me when you take away the fantasy side of it (i.e making your own team from scratch, making kits and badges etc, creating your own unique team often just by putting in some random players alongside the default ML team and making your league structures to your own individual wishes) it's just not as fun as it once was.

Maybe i'm too old school and have too much of an affinity with PES 4/5 to enjoy ML now but I definitely favour the less serious approach over what 2010 and 2011 have to offer me. I think i might just play in the normal league mode with PSG for the mean time. I'm at a loss to understand why they opted to go all uber serious about things when minus maybe the coaching feature another game on the market does the serious stuff way better (in that it has more real leagues and teams i mean).

Does anybody feel a sense of nostalgia/disappointment or is it just me?

I feel much the same mate. The last time I got seriously involved in the Master League was PES3 but when the format changed to what it is now I lost interest. The Master League was more fun when it was a fantasy league and didn't try to recreate real league structures and incorporate the Champions League. It was more fun when you started in Division 3 and had to work your way up to Division 1 where the big teams like Real, Barca, Bayern, Inter, Man Utd, Milan (etc...) awaited you. It felt like a European Superleague, it was pure fantasy..... and it was great fun.

I know I'm in the minority but I would love it if the ML went back to the old format, and embrace the fantasy aspect and not try to be anything else. Konami needs to acquire many more leagues - and most importantly lower leagues - if it is to successfully attempt a 'realistic' manager mode. The fun should be about working your way up from the bottom through the divisions to the top, but with the current system you can only get your team promoted once and that's it.

So now I just stick to the stand-alone Champions League mode and play through some leagues like Serie A and La Liga. The magic of the Master League disappeared years ago for me.

After reading some of the comments about the game being to easy, I would recommend you try two things

- Use manual passing for at least 50% of the game, although there are some instances where manual passing is not useful and default pass is the better option, I feel the default passing on pes is to easy. Its not logical to use manual pass all the time as its not meant to be used constantly but the game becomes much more rewarding when you get used to it. Manual pass is still effected by stats so individuality is not lost. I also think the manual pass option makes it harder to move the ball up the pitch at an unrealistic pace like you can with the default pass.

- Use broadcast camera, the game looks and feels like pes should do for me personally in this view, it took me a long time to get used to it but playing with this view always provides a challenge as you have to think about positioning more, if you lose your position the AI will usually punish you with good teams.

If a football game is to easy its a gamebreaker for me, pes 2008/09/10 were all to easy even with manual pass. Test it yourself, go and start a Master League with these options and tell me its easy.

How is the CPU AI ?
Are they attacking enough ?
Or is it the same as PES 2010 ?

The AI attacks a lot more depending on the situation, they only pass the ball about the back line like little bitches when they are leading rather than when they are 3-0 down like last year, in ML I have noticed the AI changing tactics during and pre match.

play online if you think ai is easy.

Agree, but what i noticed that cpu ai is mostly trying to attack from the middle. hence, we learn fast to handle this situation

Not that i say they are not smart enough for a football game since i also see them show me spectacular football :APPLAUD:

To this extent, i presume the default tactic/strategy for teams in PES is not varied a lot meanwhile the possibility to make it diverse is provided there in gameplan..

And 'general' playstyle card (can be edited yes?) should be there in every player.

i dunno if in PES 2010, playstyle card can be edited but i think one of the reason Konami put it there, so community can adjust their game to what they like to a certain point.

It seems PES 2011 is like 50% gaming 50% editing :P

Chimps-with-quiffs

Can you in general mention how one can change player stats and tactics so the game can become more realistic. I want the top teams AI controlled to be more dominant in possesion. Are you mainly following PSD values and their increased standards for Teamwork, Mentality and Response?. Are you doing something else besides increasing those that can make the game more realistic?

My main problem with the AI gameplay is that they play too much counterattacking football and in general have too low possesion against me. I play on top player and have for instance set Barca player stats mainly after PSD values. I also adjusted their playing style to: possesion in defence (only). That is to make them play a slow build up play. I also set both their support sliders very low so they may play more passes sideways and backwards. Still when facing them controlled by the AI i want them to be more dominant in possesion against me. They also play too much counterattacking football. Is there something more i can do? Or is the game engine flawed in a way that teams play to much counter attacks. Is it possible to make the AI be really dominant in possesion with certain top teams and play slow build up play mainly.

Is it just me or have Konami really fooked the online game up with what they did to their servers yesterday? I played a few games last night and had a horrible time with slight lag and passes going everywhere except where I was aiming them, I put it down to being tired and went to bed. This morning I have tried it again and its the same, there is always a little lag which at times turns into mega slow down around midfield. My passing is terrible its as if the power bar is broken, I tap the button to hit a 20ish yrd lofted pass and it gets smashed out of play, I tap the button to play it along the ground to a player 10yrds away and it gets hit to someone miles away and every time I try to use a manual pass near the box no matter what direction I aim it goes straight ahead. Also things like shot feint arent working, I got my forward into the box tried a shot feint and he just tapped the ball to the keeper.
I have always had a little lag but it was never accompanied by these other problems.

Not sure if it's been said before, but the xbox360 version of this game is far better and smoother than the PS3 version. Huge differences in terms of graphics, gameplay, and player response. Why? I don't know. However the differences are noticeable. For one, the players respond better when pressing the sprint button (RB) on the 360. On the PS3, the players feel more sluggish on responding to (R1). Their acceleration doesn't register immediately upon pressing the sprint button as it does on the 360. Very strange...

This among other things ofcourse.

I'm losing almost every MLO game now...

Unfortunately it has become the superteam bullshit we suspected it would...

There is simply no way to defend against constant through balls by Iniesta, dribbling and low crossing by Ronaldo and trying to score against the likes of Carvalho and Ferdinand with my players is rarely going to come to anything...

It was very good when everyone had weak teams, shame really.

I noticed this aswell late last nite after my shit night out!

game felt very strange and very loose online! Very strange indeed! MUST be the servers!

Haha thanks, shame it wasn't on a brighter note! :P

Replaced Mphela with Heskey, let's see how this goes :P.

EDIT - Scored on debut! :D

And on his 2nd game, but a ridiculous red card decision meant I lost the match...

Anyone else finding the passing being too positional dependant at times still?

It's happening to me increasingly that I have the ball with a striker out wide with a midfielder making a forward run just inside/through the middle so I'll power the pass to find him and the game decides that because I'm using one of my strikers at the time, the pass must be intended for his strike partner, so plays a dreadfully underpowered pass towards the middle of the field and obviously lose possession.

I'm also finding the "away" team form arrows more annoying as I play more. I mean having two players with green arrows and the rest a sea of blue and purple (including the entire bench and rest of the squad) is a bit much. Playing some of the big teams away from home is a nightmare for frustrating reasons, not that they're just better, but the fact they're also yellow/red form for nearly the whole squad means that in some cases, before you even take into account the natural stat difference, there's another +/-10 difference between your players due to form.

And one final gripe, haha, why oh why do players turn to crap in the rain?! Most players play on watered surfaces these days, why the fact that it rains in PES turns your players reactions and control to utter crap is beyond me. It should affect the ball most, maybe some quick turns, but controlling the ball and running through mud effect, no.

Even with the gripes I'm still finding myself ridiculously addicted to it again though, which I've missed for the last 3-4 years now. Not put an OF onto my game as of yet, so happily playing through a SerieA season with Sampdoria and sitting 11th at the moment, about 20 points behind Milan and Inter who are at the top of the table and steamrolling everyone.

Dar, i diubt if there is much difference between the different arrows. I don't have the impression that my ML team (still only default players) plays worse away thah at home.

I never noticed the thing you menion about a striker and the ai decinding that the pass has to go to another striker. I'm also playing a league with Sunderland and i do that all the time with Bent who then gives the ball to Mohammedi (or what's his name, Sunderland's Egyptian player, at the moment my favourite PES2011 player...) and he currently scored already 7 goals like that...

Maybe because the PS3 version uses analogue sprinting, so it depends more on pressure?

Think I've read about this somewhere.

Actually, what I've noticed is that you can now hold R2 and R1 to trap, as opposed to tapping with the older PES games. I was trying for the life of me to take a forward touch after chesting the ball down, and I realized that you have to time and hold down the R1 to get some momentum forward. Holding R2 to trap also grants you much better control as well. This is just the PS3 version though, I've noticed it's different on the 360/PC.

I hate rain.

Have you tried changing your MLO quick game search settings to search for players at a similar level? I would have thought that would filter out the teams way above or below you, depending on whether it uses the team value/rating stats as well as the standard performance rating. Don't know if it applies to you...
