PES 2011 Discussion thread

I got pissed off with MLO last night, so ended up playing some normal ranked matches.

Surprisingly, I enjoyed them all a lot, even the ones I lost and the ones against Real/Inter/United etc.
I was using Spurs mainly, and the variety in their attacking options shows PES at it's absolute best - you can take on their defence with Lennon, play through van der Vaart or Modric, using their technique and passing to split defences, you can aim for Crouch's head and play off of him. Defoe and Keane also have that "knack" of scoring, the killer instinct (Keane in particular), probably down to their player cards.

I played some very nice football, and won a few games, but the class of individual players such as Ronaldo, Casillas, Rooney, Ibrahimovic, Messi etc. can undo all of your good work in an instant, but this is only realistic, it happens all the time in real football.

Playing with good sides also made me realise how my piss-poor defending on MLO is most likely down to the players and tactics I have, as I defended solidly for the most part with good teams, and it was nice having real team names, faces for most players etc.

This will be a brilliant file, their last one was outstanding. They created over 450 faces last time as well, I'm sure they were looking to create even more for this file.

Prof - Yep mate, I did accidently knock off player development, so I had to start over again...............grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

So restarted my Rodos game over, I've started off in the fictious Meditteranean League (ML) with promotion to the Meditteranean Super League (MSL). I've changed the emblem and entrance music to these competitions and just renamed the cup.

Currently I'm 8 games into the new season, sitting 2nd behind Xakoulagos who have 19 points, whilst I have 18.

Beat Kayesispor (bottom of the MSL) in the cup to get through to the last 16 where I face off against Olympiakos.

I play a 4-4-2 (think it labels it 4-2-2-2):-

GK - Nikolaos (edited fake player), GRE
RB - Titi (fictious player, name edited only), BRA
LB - Raitos (as above), GRE
CD - Dracos (edited fake player), GRE
CD - Booth, S.AFR
DM - Tziolos, GRE
LM - Tshabalala, S.AFR
RM - Dokos (edited fake player), GRE
AM - Zeus edited fake player), GRE
ST - Mphela, S.AFR
ST - Papadopolous, GRE

Haven't spent too much on the team, although have invested a lot. Seemed I had around £50m+, however after wages and staff purchased I was left with around £10m, so I've spent about £3-4m so far on players.

Transfers in:- Booth, Tziolos, Tshabalala, Khnosneri (IRA, sp?), Mphela, Papadopolous.

Also bringing in a couple of youth players to the team and have agreed a deal for Koustanalkis (sp?, plays for PAOK where Papadopoulous was playing) and another PAOK player Muslimovic. Hope to bring in possibly another midfielder and maybe a couple of full-backs (one fancied is Sokratis of Milan who can fill in at SB).

This game is far too addictive. I started playing yesterday after the Man City match, was playing as Catania and was tweaking formations and settings. 6:30 came around and I thought I better go and make something to eat but I just had to make a few changes and test them... Look at the clock and its 7:30 I think about getting some food but I need to just test something out... Now its 8:15 and I am starving but I just need to make a player change and see how it affects the team... The clock says 9:30 and I really have to force myself to turn it off and get some food, ended up eating my tea whilst watching Match Of The Day at 10pm.

I have been browsing some other PES forums whilst eating my tea and I am surprised to see that alot of people really do not like the game. From their complaints though it seems like they are just crap at it. I seen one guy say it was the worst PES ever and one of the worst football games he has played! He said the game does not flow, the passing is stiff?? It is impossible to play good football and the shooting is like kicking a beachball. He played just 15 games them took it back to the shop. This was over at PESFan where I believe Konami go to get feedback, I hope they do not take notice of these people and we end up with another PES2008.

I dont know if its just a different generation but alot of people just want to be able to pick up a game and be brilliant at it after a few hours, of all the games I have played the best ones are the hardest and take the longest to learn.

I'm worried about this too. PES6 was great, but in many ways it was a step back from PES5, and it happened because so many people complained that PES5 was too difficult, too stiff, too hard to defend etc. It does concern me that instead of building on the pure sim aspects of PES2011 and just cutting out the glitches, Konami might look at the lukewarm reception 2011 has received from the kids (and the reviewers) and try to "casualise" the game next year. Which would be totally stupid, of course, because FIFA's got that market sewn up, and the only future for PES now is to concentrate on the simulation and re-establish itself as the connoisseur's choice. Sales might be low compared to FIFA, but it'd be a really dumb decision to think that means they have to make the game more like FIFA.

I dont know if its just a different generation but alot of people just want to be able to pick up a game and be brilliant at it after a few hours, of all the games I have played the best ones are the hardest and take the longest to learn.

It works in reverse, too - most of the time, a game you can play straight from the off turns out to have no longevity.

For instance, I got FIFA in a bundle with my new PS3, and played it for a while before PES came out. I was initially quite impressed. The PES demo, on the other hand, infuriated me to begin with - I stuck with it because I could tell it had real promise and because so many people here were so enthusiastic, but to begin with it looked pretty rough. After a few weeks with the full game, it's all come together and it's clearly the most beautiful football sim there's ever been (at least on next-gen, probably ever). I love it to death, even if I can see the faults like everyone else.

Anyway, just a few minutes ago I went back and had a few games of FIFA, which I still haven't traded in, to see how it stood up. I was rolling around laughing. It's a complete joke. Sure, I can still see the appeal it has for people who just want to pick up and play, but after the kind of games I've been having in PES2011 it just looked like some sort of freaky sped-up cartoon. Totally ridiculous, deeply unsatisfying and just generally not even worthy of the comparison.

And yet all over the internet people are saying things like "LOL PES is shit, FIFA is pure simulation of football" and so on. Even the reviews from respected games sites said more or less the same thing. To someone who's played both games extensively this seems completely insane, but because so few people have had the patience to learn the new PES, to them FIFA is smooth and beautiful and PES is just a clunky world of frustration. So FIFA is selling millions and this year's PES, in pure commercial terms, is a "failure".

Don't want to be all doom and gloom, but I'm really worried about what that'll mean for PES2012. If Konami are serious about giving the game back to the hardcore, they have to hold their nerve and realise this is a two or three year project. If they fuck with next year's game to try and make it more commercial, that could mean the end of proper football sims for a very long time to come.

It's worrisome and I hate hearing how many people have written-off PES after only a couple days, or even a couple matches, but some of the criticisms are valid and Konami only have themselves to blame.

I agree the most rewarding games tend to be the most difficult to master, but that doesn't mean a game shouldn't be initially rewarding too. Just because a game is deep like PES doesn't mean it should feel so inaccessible to many. A deep game doesn't need to be confusing to the newcomer, nor does a game that focuses on realism necessarily need to suffer with animations or player switching or some of the other "little" things that can turn off a newcomer.

There's a lot of people out there who have become used to FIFA and find some things to difficult to overlook in PES. Some of this is simply a matter of preference but imo some of this is still down to Konami being a couple years behind EA with their implementation of the next gen tech. No big surprise, but it is what it is.

This year is a major leap forward for PES but let's be honest - it was always going to be unrealistic to expect PES to close the gap between it and FIFA in a single year. It's more than Konami just making a great game but they also are fighting the momentum EA have built since 08.

Consider the person who's been in the EA camp for several years, or the kid with only enough money to buy one football game - this year was never going to be the year Konami won over/back the masses. My guess is that as long as Konami continues what it's doing and build on this year's base, the kids like you're mentioning from other forums will be more inclined to give PES an honest go next year. Konami can be proud of what they've accomplished with PES 2011 but in the end there's only so much that can be done in a single year, whether it's advancing a yearly sports game or changing people's perceptions and allegiances.

It's because so many people don't know what they're fucking talking about. From reviewers to the kids who've played both versions, it's not just about not giving PES a solid chance to shine, a lot of people just aren't going to notice the little things; some people just don't know what they're fucking talking about. Simple.

FIFA plays a brilliant game of football, from it's animations to it's degree of freedom, but you have to leave certain expectations at the door to enjoy, like realistic movement. The lack of proper inertia and momentum in FIFA drives me up the wall, but many people - like every single mainstream reviewer I suppose - either does not notice these "small" things or doesn't think them to be important.

As long as Konami keeps making games for people who know what the hell they're talking about - for people who recognize the fundamentals of the game and its many nuances - we'll be fine I think. Haven't heard anything to indicate Konami are planning to change so I think as long as Seabass is running the show, and now that they seem to have a handle on the current gen systems, everything will be okay.

I always make fighting game comparisons but this is because myself and a lot of 1 on 1 fans feel PES is as good in it's own right as the best 1 v 1 fighters are in theirs.

Again the same issues arise with reviews, especially when it's someone who has limited time to get their impressions in print.

Fighting games are scoring well at the moment as there is a renaissance of sorts but often they are marked down in areas where the reviewer simply hasn't had chance to work out all the nuances yet and hence believes the game to be too unforgiving for new player.

Likewise a "casual" player looking for a pick up and play experience will also often voice frustrations based on a few hours play, ones that are overcome as you familiarise yourself with how the game works.

---

This is the right direction for PES, more plays and especially the multiplayer sessions my friends and i are having highlight this, with a little extra layer tending to be revealed every week.

For the first few days of play i actually believed dribbling was "wrong" until i experimented with L2 control, which soon settled that misconception i had.
I like how the tricks can be an option, especially the more down to earth feints, and while turning and keeping possession with L2 alone works well enough. Sometimes the little feints and turns can provide those moments of individual class that turn a game.

Again this is only something you discover with a bit more play, or if you got the "feel" from previous PES/WE titles.

I'd be surprised (and disappointed with the gaming public) if in the long run this isn't well received. There are indeed problems that come to light, some that really get on my wick, but these are not issues with the core of the game-play itself.

who said that ?
and where exactly is the diffrence in a technical/engineering point of view to pes 010 ?

new page 4tw :P

A friend of mine, he's a fan of Fifa (yeah, I know)...

He knows that I get angry easily, so he would piss me off everytime about how much PES sucked. I eventually ignored him and said to him: "fine, sure", because the conversation would easily end with "fuck off".

A few days ago, instead of simply ignoring his cry for attention, I asked him: "Why." "Why what?" "Why does PES suck, and why is FIFA better". His answer was: "It is. Better. Everyone knows that. Even reviewers say so.". He eventually went on saying that the gameplay was better, bla bla bla, but I told him I didn't care anymore, since his main argument was "reviewers say so".

"Cool story bro."

I hope they don't change anything but alas even developers do make the wrong choices sometimes (unless i'm being cynical with their intentions for more sequels :JAY:).

Capcom listened to "the wrong people" when the new Street Fighter came out and in the interests of balance for the new version, changed some characters.

Some changed for the better, these were the ones that were "buffed", however mostly (if not) every character that was supposed to have been "balanced" was hit hard and almost became unusable if you wanted to be on equal footing with the rest of the roster.

Hence now comes a 3rd version due soon (rumoured as DLC) which changes things again. Again some characters lose somethings they didn't need to apparently and others get buffed up a bit.

-

The developers admitted it's not easy to filter out who they should be listening to overall so they try to find a middle ground, but unfortunately due to the nature of changes to a game like this, someone always gets the short-end of the stick.

-

Not really sure how on topic that is heh:COAT:

Fantastic posts and yes it's a BIG concern of mine too!

I hope Konami really read through the posts which criticize the game for being 'hard to play' and simply ignore them as being people who simply need to learn!

I REALLY, REALLY don't want this game to change at all! It's fantastic the way it is, just needs to be built up upon! Rather than dubbing down for the casual!

Where Konami have failed in marketing terms is not really explaining to everyone how this new game actually works! Dribbling and ball control is the main thing clearly! It's a totally new system which needs to be played in a new way! it's actually pretty hard to explain, so someone, possible me or another needs to really develop a video on how the game works!

Konami MUST not listen to people like this:
YouTube - PES 2011 First Impressions ft. Barcelona's Messi and Bayern Munich's Robben (PES 2011) Sports
Casuals have their game (FIFA) Koanmi will never win those guys back, they need to focus on mainly the players who like the current game! Casuals will follow whichever game their mates play or which is the most hyped!

Just played easily the worst player so far. Had a team full of C.Ronaldo, Klose, Milner so blatantly an own goal cheat. Played four up front and spent his whole time trying to break my players legs, until D'Agostino spanked a freekick in from 25m :SMUG: Every pass he made was severely underhit, must have been a FIFA convert who couldn't understand why frantically smashing X doesn't string together connecting passes.

Received the best part of over 100k for that win, which leads me to believe prize money is based on team strength difference above all else as his ranking was about a 100 less than mine.

lookin to the decrease of players playin this game online over the years(the trend is your friend) tells me that there arent many players to build a sim for

and more of the half playin it online are abusers

theres simply no market
they cant go the same way like 010 n now 011 or it will get worse
they need more of an arcade approach for balancing good/weak players and for the competitive gamers
the access shud be easy but the learning curve long, very long to master it

but w/o assistance controls like fifa, w/o changing gameplay too

first simple step is to make much more animations so that people understand more what went wrong instead of simple ball is out wide but i dont know why feelings.. etc.

second one do a fuckin tutorial like ps2 pes titles(cant remember)

So sad but I guess true. Just look at RPGs: as much fun as I've had with games like Mas Effect, RPGs just aren't made like they once were. Further evidence is how they're changing Dragon Age for the second one.

I swear, as much fun as they may be, FPS games are ruining our societies!

I guess we could say we can hope PES is the Demon Souls of football games, although I guess despite being brutally tough it's not the deepest game in the traditional sense.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I don't buy the argument that there isn't a market for a football game founded in realism and fundamentals. Depth and accessibility do not need to be mutually exclusive. Every game has a learning curve, and no matter the size or steepness of that curve, it is the challenge of a good game to be enjoyable to both the noob and the master.

that guy who made the review about pes11 demo is easily the biggest tool Ive ever heard in my life. First of all, before he plays any games and then reviews them someone should teach him how to talk. Jesus fucking Christ how many times did he say " I mean" and his reviews are way off in my opinion. Now, I want all diehard PES but honest fans to answer me something. Is PES11 better than FIFA11? Im not starting a war btw the two but I haven't played FIFA11 nor do I plan on buying one because I'm having a time of my life with PES11 (something only WE7:I and Limeware Evolution gave me). I am one of the biggest PES&WE Konami fans. I did feel the letdown once Konami started rolling out PES on next gen and had no choice but to think that PES08 and 09 were absolute joke comparing to next gen FIFA. The last FIFA I played was FIFA10 and WC2010 and thought they were good games. But everytime I had a friend over we always pop in PES10 and play against eachother, not FIFA10 or WC. This is not because we are PES fans but I just dont have that feeling of real football when playing FIFA10 or WC2010. PES10 was an "ok" game from Konami on next gen and it wasn't anything SPECIAL BUT it still gave me orgasams over FIFA10 and WC2010.

PES11 to me is easily the best football game ever released on next gen platforms. Yet, why do so many websites that used to give PES&WE high scores on pS2 9/10 etc giving PES11 a disgraceful 7/10 I even saw 6.5 for fucks sake while EVERY site gives FIFA11 superb ratings. Numbers like 9.0, 9.5, some even full 10/10. These are some crazy reviews for this FIFA11 game. What am I missing here people ?
