PES 2011 Discussion thread

My mate just scored a chip against me almost identical to the one Quagliarella scored against Slovakia at the World Cup .

He skipped the replay, so I couldn't save and upload it, but it looked seriously awesome, never seen anything like that in a football game before and I hadn't thought to try it myself (another FIFA habit of mine, avoiding chipping the keeper because it was an exploit).

I can't get my head around the L1 Chip, can never get enough elevation on them. Do love the R1 dink though, not as effective as it was in PES4 but it's fantastic for when the keepers at your feet.

Arrgh, turned my form around in the cup, looked set to qualify for the knockout rounds and then boom, I get disconnected. Where has my luck gone?

...

edit: seems I can reconnect to the competition, didn't know that.

Me and my mate went on MLO, and we changed the game plan/tactical settings, and now my team is playing shit... Not attacking as a unit at all, most of my goals have been counter attacks...

And what settings do you lot use for a solid defence? When I push up I concede loads to through ball mashers, when I drop back I concede loads of ping pong moves and cutbacks... Need to sort it out!

Had a shit day on PES today.

What's your point? We can see the bug - it's weird, it's bad, it's not something we can do anything about other than report it to Konami. It's not a gameplay issue that we can talk about rebalancing; it's a bug. The solution is to fix the bug. End of conversation.

The rainbow flick IS a gameplay issue. It is the scourge of all football games, and seeing it being wrongly implemented in a game that otherwise represents tricks fairly well is depressing. Seeing people use it and think it looks cool or flash is just as bad.

hmmm agree

The last two days, i look into link feint stuff to test it..
I just use one feint :P for each R2 direction.. which i believe one trick can also be done using button & analog combo, right ?

Anyway, i choose the trick that wrongfooted the defender. and i  it looks damn good in PES

If a player's rating can influence the type of a special trick that a player can do as well as the success of a trick (its there but not much) and as long as the CPU ai can do the same (the simple one) and Konami can balance it well.. then its gonna be a much2 great football game.

Btw anyone has seen pass performed by chest before ? coz it happens for the first time for me since i played PES 2011. :SMUG:
saved the replay, ill uploaded if s'one is interested.

I think a lot of us felt a bit like that when we started playing.

The thing about this game is that when you're not playing it well, it looks and feels bloody horrible. Until you get used to the feel and rhythm of taking first touches with L2, putting a bit of whip on passes and shots, knowing where and when to play a first time long pass or a little chipped through ball or a backheel, how to speed up and slow down play... until you get into the groove of all that, it can look a bit like a load of zombies crashing into each other with a ball bouncing around somewhere nearby.

I never thought of selling the game because I always sensed there was something great in there, but I had a few days where I was just thinking WTF, basically. Really frustrated, it didn't seem to look like football, everything felt weird and sluggish, no one making runs, CPU seemed unable to play properly etc etc.

What happens is, you persevere and quite quickly it all falls into place. Once you get the "feel" of it and start being able to do what you want, games begin to open up and feel much more realistic. You get that ebb and flow, passages of play start to make sense. You discover how to build a move, what you can and can't do. You learn to spot player runs, and how to move in order to make your teammates start running (they won't just bomb up the pitch like headless chickens unless you're using "quick counter" strategy, but they will move around more as you start to build up play). You realise that what feels like your players being stupid and immobile is actually a fairly realistic system to stop you pulling off inhuman twists and turns, and soon you work out how to move fluently within that system. Soon, you can create space for yourself by switching the ball from foot to foot, or jinking through a small gap, and so on and so on. You start to spot which teams will just ping long passes down the middle and which will try to play football against you (it's all in the "Management Edit" and "Team Style" settings, though of course Konami haven't bothered to make all of these accurate, and have set too many teams to "Long Ball", so you may have to change them for some teams, or wait for someone to post suggested changes on a forum like this... in the meantime I would suggest Porto as an opponent who try to play proper football).

Seriously, give it some time. There's a lot of depth in this game, and because of that it can seem quite weird until you get the hang of it. It's not a pick up and play thing like FIFA, where you go "wow" on your first game - it takes patience. The weird "restrictions" you're feeling are what give the game its realism. The problem is that when you start with this game you naturally try to play "through" them, rather than with them - and when you do that, what you see on your screen looks anything but realistic. And you're right, until the game clicks with you, it's not much fun. Once it does, it's amazing and you see all this stuff in a new light.

You're right about the cursor switching, though - and the odd bit of weird AI behaviour. Even those of us who are really, really into this game now will freely admit there are some fairly big annoyances. It ain't perfect, but what can you do?

Cheers for the reply dude :)

I'll give the game some more time and see if what you say happens. I'll drop down to normal difficulty to begin with, because at the moment I can't string more than a few passes together.

Out of interest, what team settings do you tend to set your team to?

gona start MLO now, should be fun considering im 2weeks behind ,gona use my trusted WM formation see what happens

About MLO, I can't get quick matches. The comps fill up in nano seconds but I just cannot find 1 quick match as I get the no opponents message for the last 2 days.

It's ridiculous because you build up a team then try to go up the divisions, I'll probably get relegated again as I just can't find any quick matches. Anyone else have this problem?

I haven't even started MLO yet. Don't think I will now since I'm pretty late to the party and everyone has all the big names already.

Depends who I'm playing as, and whether it's home or away. I've just done a season as Villarreal, and usually played 4-2-3-1 away from home with "quick counter" strategy, while at home I played a lop-sided 4-4-2 with the management edit set to Possession Game. The rest of it depends on who I'm playing against and how I want to approach that match.

In typical Konami style, though, some of these settings are a bit confusing. People are still working out exactly what does what, because the explanations in-game are really bad and it takes a bit of trial and error to work it out. Also, like I say, half the teams in the game are set up all wrong by default, so it needs a bit of editing. Sooner or later I guess someone will work out how particular teams should be set up and either post it here or incorporate it into a file.

Is it possible to play people you know with your MLO team? If so anyone fancy a few some time?

Turned the Quick Match option to English language only and I'm killing it at the moment, so much easier to jink past players when there's minimal lag :SMUG:

really liking the game. feels really good when you can string together some one twos and beat the defense. only problem is shooting for me. i miss some easy one v ones all the time. i miss the whole goal!

doesn't R2 work AFTER you release the shot button? always used to work that way. think you're mixing it up with the way L2 and L1 shot works.

The worst setup team has to be Barca easily!

There's much work needed to be done to sort their formation and tactics out, no wonder people are finding them too easy to beat :)

Hey folks

Sorry I've not posted here in a bit.

I've not even touched MLO yet, but I have been playing ML and god am I struggling, I mean REALLY struggling. I'm 4th from bottom after like 20 games on Top Player.

Also, a friend of mine and me were playing 2 player and we are even struggling to win/keep cleansheets on bloody Amateur level, I dunno wtf is going on! we were 3-0 up in a champions league game and ended up conceding 4 goals in the second half, on Amateur!?!

I'm confused, I used to be decent on Top Player on PES2010, it maketh no sense!!! :/

CPU cheated on you? :P

Wtf?!

My team is: Ivarov, Zamenhof, Felzterhof, Ponzio, Abe, Medel, Hadji, Giocomazzi, D. Niculae, Mandzuric, Haedo Valdez, and 2 other DMFs playing as CBs with Ruskin, Elmoubarki and Guiterrez still in my line up and 3 £5000 players rated 20. The highest rated is Giocomazzi at 74 I think. Yet my team strength is 800 odd/75000 people online!
So even when I win against a team boasting a full team of superstars like Arshavin, Di Maria, Gattuso, Forlan, Vierra and the other happy bunch I still lose ranking points. Also, I'm not scraping 1-0 victories I am getting over 50% possession consistently.

I'll admit though I do not take as many shots on goal as I try to work my way into the box with slow dribble or possesion play. Unlike this one twat that kept trying over 40 meter shots with Forlan when he couldn't through pass my backline.

Btw I waltzed, through 4 of Jimmy's defenders and chipped his keeper from 2 yards out with Haedo Valdez. :SMUG:

Simcut, Yeah I am relieved mate. As long as I do not go on before 8:30 pm I am good.
I have heard that there is a split second lag but I am not experiencing this at all.

Also it's inconsistent I have played pristine matches against people in South America who IMO are the best PES players. As well as, Malta, Eastern Europe and UAE. Yet I have had terrible matches against South Africans. Go figure.

Liar. :WHISTLE::COAT:

Lol. Sorry jim I had to brag. I have been practicing the drag tricks..I take my hate off to you mate, I can need 2 minutes standing still to unknot my fingers in my head before I can pull them off.
:WORSHIP:

You dont need drag tricks bud, that dribbling is the best I have seen yet. I'm sure when you and Rom hook up in your PEEL league match it will be one for the dribbling ages. :)
