PES 2011 Discussion thread

Won the first knockout round on pens :D Should get a fair bit of prize money from this!

I desperately need to sort out my defence, whenever I concede (and it's not from a player switching error), it's usually down to the rubbish defenders.
 
Which cup is it too? I just failed to qualify for the ML Open cup. Finishing like 78th but my team is far worse than most of the teams I faced. Got a nice little 3-0 win in my last game though, getting 100,000 in prize money and that's for just finishing 78th so Rob should get a fair amount I would have thought. If it is that cup of course.

Thanks, won 17-16 on pens because I saw your post :D.

@dannyfc2 - I won 4-0, 2-1 and 1-0 to qualify, finished 4th in the standings :) It's the D4 Cup, so will obviously get less than the ML Open :(.

Playing the guy who came first in the standings now, who scored 15 and conceded 1 in his 3 games... definitely gonna lose.

Yup, he scored right from kick off with an assisted FIFA-esque goal...

How many matches has everyone played so far and what's your record?

Mine is, P:28 W:13 D:11 L:4

Not too bad. Averaging 1.14 goals a game and conceding 1 every 2 matches.
 
I've reached my wall for the night. Lost the last 3 matches I've played now. Two due to player switching shiteness. Urge to kill is definately rising and that baldy Italian I have upfront is fucking useless. He's getting sold, fast!
 
Rob, hold square and up/down (pitch view) and left/right (pk view) for ground diving.

use circle and x for flying saves. I haven't figured out that one yet.
 
Sold Matsui, replaced him with Djemsav (hopefully he's as good as you say! :)))) and used my remaining funds to purchase two centre-backs - D.Meyler and Brener.

They aren't even rated higher than the defaults as an overall rating, but they are both tall, fairly quick, agile and good on the ball, plus they can both play in midfield if needed.

EDIT - Djemsav scored on debut and the centre backs were solid :) Seem like good signings from that display, hopefully it continues!

Pinpoint cross assist for Djemsav on his second match :D.

Does Djemsav have 60s for shot acc? I'm pretty sure I had him, always used to weave his way into fantastic positions only to scuff the shot wide :CONFUSE: I was playing him as an advanced winger though so he's probably more useful deeper.

4-0 for a 5 minute match is impressive mate, even against a lot weaker opposition (some still using the originals) I can only manage two goals at most. Do you just go all out attack from the off?


Worryingly I encountered a few people tonight who had teams full of Lampards and Villas. Got a feeling it'll only be another week or two before we're swamped with superstar teams. Maybe the 'super' players value will rocket, I think there should be a fixed limit on certain players really.
 
It's those kind of things that put me well off playing online. I really do have a hatred for seeing folk who can only possibly be exploiting or cheating.

It needs to be made like PES 5 where if you hold X and run into someone you dont come away with the ball, you knock them over and its a foul. Its ridiculous at the moment, I get my striker though on goal, defenders are behind but are catching, I turn his back to the approaching CB so he will not be able to get the ball but he just runs straight through the back of me and runs off with the ball!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:RANT::RANT::RANT:

I signed Keiren Westwood on MLO! :D (Coventry's keeper)

He's actually pretty good on PES, which is surprising considering Konami always used to seriously underrate any lower league players in national sides.

His kicks are so much better than Ivarov's, it does make a fairly big difference to the flow of the game when your keeper can kick the ball further/more accurately! :)

I think he does have low shot accuracy, a bit of a shame really as he's a fantastic little player in other areas.

To be honest, that opponent I beat 4-0 was absolutely terrible, it was almost as if he gave the controller to his dog or something! :LOL: I just played normally, and then went all-out attack when I was 2-0 up to try and boost my goal difference :).

And yeah I think in a few weeks/months, pretty much every team will be full of all the superstar names, it will be a shame as at the moment it can be great fun!

Bloody player switching :CONFUSE: .

I'm having a nightmare with it if i concede a corner, especially if my defence is fatigued.

Sometimes it will deselect and then reselect the same player who i have moved into the right position, this screws the timing up as i try to clear with :square: but because of the selection shenanigans the initial input is lost. When i press it again the timing is off and it either defaults to a "poor" defensive header or worst of all it does nothing and tries to control the ball in a crowd of instant tackling Top Player AI attackers.

Bring back the old Semi-Auto where you chose the frequency of the switching. That's it then, everything is solely down to your timing, positioning and the fairer gameplay quirks PES introduces to keep things interesting.

I am liking :l2: dribbling as it does let you wrong foot the opposition from time to time and draw out a tackle, giving you the all important space. I definitely see the difference in my attacking now due to better close control.

Getting stuck in an animation still irks me tho, especially as it's harder to turn away on a dime from the CPU, who will steal anything that isn't under control in this version. (i remember some leeway on the PS2 incarnations).

They're not far off with this version. I like the way it encourages to open up the opposition instead of piling forward like some versions encouraged.

If they can just tighten up these frustrating niggles, which sometime make you feel you've been cheated by the AI then PES really is well on the way. The engine is there and it does a lot right, just the bloody wrong bits can really make one rather miffed :RANT:

Also, has anyone noticed that you can sometimes play what seem like bad passes up to your forwards, only for the AI defence to let it roll right by them and your player latches onto the ball? Almost like it's letting the ball go through to your player? On proffessional level, anyways.

By the way, I know this will have been asked time and time again, but how the hell do you shoot low in this game?? It's driving me nuts, I really like the game except for the shooting.

Example;

Arshavin broke down the inside left channel, kind of through on goal, and I tried a low shot across the keeper. I tapped the shoot button as lightly and quickly as I could, it barely registed on the power meter. Yet it went flying into the top corner like a rocket. Great goal, but little satisfaction for me because it's not what I'd intended. It felt like I'd scored it by accident.

Five minutes later, in exactly the same position, with the same player, with his body shaped up to shoot in the same way (simply dribbling towards the goal), I did the exact same method of shooting and it went low, hard, and just past the post.

Now why did one shot go high and the other low? And why did they both travel like a rocket? Can't you do measured, placed, softer shots in this? Using the controlled shot button doesn't seem to do much for me.

I can control the direction and pace, but not the height. It's really becoming a game breaker for me now.

Shooting is all about body position! takes a long time to get round, but low shots require timing and understanding , again how you players body position is shaped!

Well, it's a good idea but i find pressure whores easy to beat though?
 
what gameplay tweaks? you mean we can edit gameplay for ps3 also? possible to make the default speed slower such that when play online, would play at that changed speed?
 
you mean you made a patch to reduce the default speed such that when he played online, it was at the changed default speed? you not kidding me?
 
No he means editing the team strategy and player stats to make the teams play more realisticly. It's great for offline but doesn't work for online.
Funny enough, I play -1 and have no issues playing online.

Anybody scored offside goals, which were awarded a goal?

I did. I have no problem with this, just would like to know if it's a bug or an additional layer of realism.

I do like. Also, that not every dive is awarded yellow card / or free kick :)

Yeah I like how there's a realistic amount of offside goals. Especially when I played away at Chelsea, they scored two but I expect that of them. :YAWN:
