PES 2011 Discussion thread

Shame there weren't any compos today - was looking forward to raising enough cash to upgrade my back line.

Tell me about it, me to. I'm desperate for a couple of strong CB's, mine are shite at best.

As for the overall rating system, I really think we need it, and I was totally against it in PES 2010. But the bottom line is, last year was the first time PES penalised you for playing players out of their natural position. This rating system shows us very cleary what rating players drop to when played out of their comfort zone. I really welcome it now, Konami upped the strategic and individuality ante when they introduced this system, and the rating's now tell us all we need to know in this regard. Years ago you could get away with fielding players anywhere on the field, this eliminates that, and at the same time enhances the realism.

I'd go along with that to a fair extent. Maybe lumping it in with pure, position-independent abilities is over simplifying, but on the other hand having two numbers would be fiddly, and having one number plus a positional equivalent of the form arrows might be too abstract. Ideally it would be more obscure but at the same time we only have 90-120 seconds to make changes mid-match. I'd sooner Konami encourage tactical and strategic thinking.

Fingers crossed when it's added it'll take care of the Aguero/ Eto'o sprinters.

Me too I have a very bare subs bench. Also when you get disconnected you lose money which is not cool.

The sprinters are really bad and the square ball across the box from anywhere is way too effective. I hope to hell it's all gone or atleast less effective in the final release.

I must admit that I also find myself in square pass situations as I use wingplay a lot but try not to exploit it.

For me it hugely increases the amount of player variables, and the more the merrier. For me this just adds to the randomness, and thats always a great plus point for replicating football. It's the age old adage, there are no guarantees in football, and it's for that exact reason.

As for the demo, I'm finding you have more control over the corners than before. I could always bend them with left or right pre and after-touch, but now I can add dip or get underneath it. You really can drop them on a sixpence with a decent dead-ball specialist. I'm finding the crosses alot easier to deal with, especially compared to 2010. Also the drilled double or triple circle cross from the flanks is really hit it more realistically and with alot more venom. It's uses the right technique, these crosses in real life are hit like a strike on goal technique wise, you just aim for the penalty spot as if it was the back of the net. This looks and feels the same when you drill them in now, I really like them.

Also, outside of the boot lobbed through balls look very nice. Saurez has the outside of the boot Player Card, and some of his dinks over the top are 70's-Brazil-esque. He is the only player that can do it, and on the screen his technical class shines bright.

Seen alot more of the player leaving the ball bug, and usually after a trick, its like he's dizzy. I have no doubt that will get sorted, and I have seen a few howlers from my keeper. He had been solid for days, he is only 61 rating though so maybe I'm being a little harsh. No I'm not, he's rubbish.

Had a penalty on coach mode the other day where Park Ji Sung ran past the ball, turned round and ran at it again, then shot and the ball flew behind him into the net. Baffling.

Scored a winner off a grounded cross today and got an enraged message about using cutbacks. It was actually just really well placed at the back post for the sprinting finish. This is the problem with the cutback bug - it then makes legitimate use of a grounded assist from out wide seem like gaming the system.

Phew, that took some explaining. Also R2 is fantastic for all sorts of first time touches, and something people will massively overlook. Last night I passed to my player, I could see my opponent bearing down on my ball receiver, I instinctively pressed R2 as in my mind I knew I needed my player to open his body and sort of body feint the oncoming player looking to disposses me. To my utter amazement, my player did exactly what I'd hoped he would, and I didnt even know it was possible, it felt right to try R2 out of pure instinct to the situation. My player did perform a body feint, and bought me that extra yard to sidestep the challenge. It was simply beautiful. It's this type of extremely clever programming that blows my mind. It's subtle, but as a footballer, it's like your mind is catered for without you even knowing. Genius.

I've been thinking this past couple of days about what I feel is sorely missing in PES, and for me it's the first touch.

I too press R2 when receiving the ball, as I feel there's a subtle difference in how my player takes the ball. The problem is it's all a little too subtle, if there at all. It feels too automated and not dynamic enough.

I want the choice in how I trap or take a touch on the ball, whether that be cushioning it to bring it down, a little touch to knock it out from my body or past an oncoming defender.

It's an area I think Konami are overlooking, but something which could totally change the game for the better.

Not me for me Joe. I prefer the first touch to be natural, and its in there in abundance for me. The R2, like you say is more of a caress. I know what you mean though, Fifa does it well with the R1 stick ( I think ) the only issue I have with EA's system is its all generic, every player can pull it off exactly the same. If Konami introduced the very same system but made the stats totally revelant, that would be a good alternative. But as it stands, I still prefer the more natural approach PES uses. There is nothing better than seeing some bad first control, as it makes a great first touch stand out even more.

Let's keep this on-topic as well chaps, its a good thread this. ;)

We have also heard that Asim from God is a Geek, who played final code behind closed doors, said new 1st touch and intricate controls have been added.

Is the player index going to come back for the final code, full game do you think?

I also still can't understand what's happened to those unquie dribbling animations?

There were 5 different ones in PES 2010 (the 4 standard ones an Messi's own dribbling animation). Surely they will come back for the final code?

Like i said everything else looks brilliant!

You'd think so. I guess the game is still being fleshed out with little touches being added here and there and graphical polish being applied. Not too long to wait for the demo to find out.

This is what was posted at pesgaming.com:

"Its confirmed by Asim , the admin of GOD is a Geek site that the final code will be Sexual and much much better than the gamescom code and it will have a number of new gameplay features. one is the pressure sensitive analog dribbling ! like now we have only 2 options of walk and run but with this pressure sensitive analog stick gameplay you press little on the analog button the ball will be much more closely controlled and player will turn quick. this is called ULTIMATE FREEDOM !"

Sounds sexual indeed.

Yeah, i hope my assumption that they were working on the key fundamentals and making sure the game plays right then polished off the game with the animations later. I really can't be that hard to put them back in?

From what i've seen at gamescom apart from the tiny bugs here and there the game looks great, seems to be challenging and plays gerat, all the animations are pretty smooth, contextual. What i'm wary about is simply the lack of them, there only seems to be about 2 crossing animations in total :CONFUSE: and it just baffs me that Messi dosen't seem to have his own montion captured animatiuons which appeared partly in PES 2010 even?

Do you feel they have left out the animations i speak of n purpose to make all the new stuff is working? Also since people wanted a new game they wanted everything look look and feel fresh! Then put the 'good' old ones (not the horrible, weird looking ones ) back to polish it off?

can someone please tweet this guy my question about the animations and player index :)) Also i've given up trying to get that Beta, i t seem as if this new code will be like playing a different game to that beta

Seen this question before. Konami had no full strategy-functionallity in the demo or gamescom-version.
It might be in the full version, or it is replaced by something else in the new strategy-menu. I am sure you can make players play attacking or defensive, but it is not clear how to do that in the new system.

Its all just taste.

Anyway, went on Caniggia's site to see if there was anything new and found this very interesting piece, translated by google:

Weekly reputation - PES 2011 is released September 14

Posted on 2010-08-21 @ 21:15:59 and has been given (6) comments

Here you have a sweet to suck on. According to Eurogamer as released PES 2011 to PS3/360 September 14.

Through the comment feature, I got this response when I confronted the author, because I myself was at the press conferences.

Caniggia: Sorry I missed the press conference because it interfered with an important meeting, but the day after talking me with Konami's PR / Marketing Coordinator, Stefanie Ollesch, and she told me they had gone out with the wrong information in both the press conference and in the press release, and to date for us Swedes on 14 September for PS3 and Xbox 360, while PS2 and Wii version released October 8.

However, given that I still read of at least four different dates, so I will check it out here again on Monday.

Now we'll see if Konami breaks record in deceiving the entire press corps. Should be interesting!

September 14? Really?
