PES 2011 Discussion thread

I'd love to see it a proper night/day cycle in a football game. Has that been done before?

No snow, no "muddy" shorts and no additional control over corners this year according to Jon Murphy.

I'm not massively bothered about any of those things, but even so, how hard is it to implement the little touches that have been ripped out of the PS2 games? No excuse really seeing as the Xbox360 was released in 2005. Konami have had plenty of time to get their collective arses in gear on next-gen.

I assume "No additional control over corners" means we can't call a player forward to receive a short pass?

The one thing both games are missing on the graphics front I'd dearly love to see is real time pitches, this would add so much to the game. It's all so damn pristine...

This is something Madden does well. Even Actua Soccer had slide tackle marks.

Same for both titles. Dynamic weather and lighting is a lot more expensive to do, in terms of processing power, than their static equivalents.

That said, didn't Adidas Power Soccer have sunsets?

I can imagine it is. It's not something I'm that bothered about in a football game. PES has day/afternoon/night + summer/winter + dry/rain settings for all stadia. That's enough combinations for me.

Edit: I couldn't tolerate Adidas Power Soccer for long enough to find out.

Obviously there are bigger issues in football games than having a degrading pitch and changing weather/light. Was thinking about it the other the day while watching a world cup match and figured it was due to them already using the resources available. (Judging by some of the harsh LOD). Still, would certainly add to the atmosphere in the games on the next gen.

I also think it'd look a bit weird, seeing the shadows expand across the pitch and the shade of light change from bright yellow with huge sheltered areas to fluorescent white in the space of ten minutes. Might induce one too many acid flashbacks.

Yeah

thats bad by konami, even iss deluxe on the snes had snow and the ability to pick which foot any player could take a corner with(inswinger or outswinger) actually that corner move has never made it to any other football game which is strange, another great little feature removed by konami:FAIL:

To be fair, how realistic is it to suggest any player decides which foot he takes a corner with ?

A set-piece specialist always uses his stronger, natural foot. If you want the corner to be an inswinger, or an outswinger, then you simply use a player that favours the foot required to take the corner. Thats why they give you a left and right sided corner taker. This is realistic. I have Cabaye on the right and Obraniak on the left for Lille, perfect. And if one is off form I'll use Hazard or Emerson respectively. For Peru I go for Vargas and Solano. All those players mentioned are dead ball specialists, with right and left feet. Thats the perfect solution.

As for snow, would never use it, pointless for me personally. And muddy shorts, well I'm not really sure what I can say about that. It isnt a priority feature for me, put it that way.

well, the main point is reaction times, imo, but every "bad piece of news" makes me think this is not the year it's coming back yet.
I seriously hope to be wrong, and will find out latest at Gamescom, we'll see...

I'm not that bothered by the real time weather and daylight shenanigans but the set piece or corner kick editor needs to be brought into play.
It's ridiculous that PES has not done this yet, calling one or 2 players up is okay but falls way short of the mark if you look at how teams use it in real life. Fifa has a decent editor but can also improve somewhat. Another thing I'd like to see is jostling before a set piece takes place. At the moment both titles are stagnant in this respect with players ambling ever so slowly into the box. The keepers also never come out to punch a ball away. If PES had this the keepers ability and awareness should dictate how successful he is at attacking the ball I from set pieces. There is just so much scope to improve this aspect.

I would also like to see a difference in the turf and the balls reaction to it. I wonder if we'll ever see it soon.

It's a pity about the licensing issues as another football game taking advantage of the shortcomings of the FIFA and PES could add some competition.
We argue about which game is better but it's a relief that they atleast push each other somewhat. Imagine if it was only PES or FIFA.

Can't help but feel this is down to us not telling konami to put stuf like this back in.

Sort of thing which completley slips your mind even though it's standard!

Think i need and many others need to put a large enphysis on 'the fine details' for PES 2012

Stuff like:
Degrading pitches
Muddy/wet shirts
Realtime daylight changes
Snow and variable weather condition changes
Flares, huge flags and banners in crowd like with PES5

Approprate crowds for Clubs/national teams:

National team supporters are very party like, especially the africans who are made. Like it's a festival!

Club teams with their regular type of fans they the ultras side which vary in different countries.

These things listed are all 'little issues' but once the gameplay is sorted, i think these really do need to be implemented :)

Didn't Virtua striker 2 have a feature to "synchronize" the ingame clock to the Dreamcast one, so the time conditions would vary accordingly?
Still, VS2 matches were so short (and the day-night cycle was actually of 24 hours) that I've never noticed a "real-time change" during a single match to be honest..

This is what happeend to the Smackdown series way back in 2006, no competiton ment they could release the same game, over and over again. People started to call it instead of SVR (Smackdown vs Raw) SSDY (Same shit, different Year)

It's only a shame that about 90% of the stuff you mentioned was already in previous PES. But there are many stuff that have been left off over the years. This frustrates me. Jon Murphy on Twitter says he agrees with this kind of stuff, everything should be back on the game, but first they need to get PES it self back, so they are focusing on the core stuff. Will be happy enough if the core is that really that good. I'm sure every fan agrees with this (?).

just wait it, it's gonna be the same as the last years...

You have an unbelievably negative attitude. While PES 2010 did have bad response issues, previous versions didn't. Also you haven't played PES 2011 yet. Lets wait and see for ourselves once we have the demo and final game in our hands. Until then we have to rely on previews and hands on sessions from journalists who if I may point out have not mentioned any response problems currently.

Response times must be one of the biggest issues raised in fan feedback alongside animations, referees and goalkeepers. I know Konami are not the most proactive of developers but I would be amazed if response times are still a problem. Besides, those people that have played the game have not once mentioned poor response times.

Chin up, son.

@JonMurphy_PES Will there be any delays or lag button online on the next PES and what about group clans like there was in PES 6?

@The_Greek95 They're working hard on that now. Initial tests are very positive. Not sure about online mode options yet.

Although the question is about online, the answer should fit both.

hehe, I can't wait to test this and fluiditivy at gamescom, if those are alright, it might be a good game...
