Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

This question might have been ignored in my long post, but i'll ask it again now:

Can anyone tell me what is better about the gameplay in PES 2009 than PES5 (or any other PES on PS2)?

I can't name one thing...

Heading crosses is vastly improved.

The chip shots are far more fluid too.

Other than that, it isn't too much different to 5.

So in 3 years, all they've managed to do is make heading a bit better and the chipped shots "more fluid"? Two minor gameplay "improvements" in three years.

Congratulations Konami :II

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

Mark Lawrenson isn't the greatest commentator in the world granted but its no his fault that he sounds bad in the game. If Konami actually sat both commentators in the same room and gave them tons of script to read or let them watch a game being played and do commentary in real time then perhaps Lawro wouldn't sound as if he is on the phone.

The back of the box says 'Fluid commentary', that it certainly isn't.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

But 5 was a doozy! Technically, the phrase should be "if it ain't broke...." but obviously Konami are more than happy to fix things that don't need it!

Granted they haven't moved very far in the last 3 years, but FIFA have had 12 years and still can't make a game I can sit through for longer than an hour.

All I can say on the matter is I'm enjoying this version more than I have for the last few years.

Why do you bother posting in this thread? You already made it clear before PES even came out that you didn't like it (yet you still brought it?!).

I dont like FIFA, but I dont go and post in there every 5 minutes saying "this is shit, that is shit".

Leave us PES fans in peace man!

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

All years is the same... just dont bother about bashers/moaners. You are a veteran here so you should know how things work before, during and after a new PES releases...

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

PES5 is better than Konami's latest 'effort' in every department. So why should I bother with PES2009?

This isn't the "PES 09 Lovefest thread" is it? Negative comments are allowed too you know.

I've hardly mentioned FIFA in my last few posts so why do you mention it? I'm talking about PES and PES only now.

No I didn't buy the game actually, it would just be a waste of money since I already have all the old PES games (on PC, since PES3 anyway), and 09 is not an improvement on them.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

Allright Rob, we know now...you have made your point...you obviously don't like.
This isn't supposed to be a PES Lovefest thread, but quite a lot of people have a feeling that you are repeating yourself just a tiny litle bit...

^^from the first post. after all, this has always been a PES forum, and most of us still like the game. could you please stop getting on everyones nerves and let us discuss pes2009 in here? or are you on a mission converting everyone to fifa? i think we got your point now and respect that. au revoir..

ON TOPIC: has anybody started a ML season so far? because i can't find the "growth-arrows" next to the players name. and where are the % that display if a player wants to join your team? i cannot find them although ML-level is on "normal"...

John Champion is a prick aswell.

"THERE LOSING AND HE HASNT MADE ANY SUBSTITUTIONS?! HES LOST HIS MARBLES?!"

at HT, stfu john.

That's not really his fault though - more they programming team.

The ISS team at Konami get the first 2 shots at a PES game on a new console. It's been that way since the PS1 days. So next year we should get the next real PES game made by the real full PES team and not the ISS boys or a mix of teams.

Despite that i'm having loads of fun with this as its something new to me and the new features like BAL are great fun.

LATEST WENB PODCAST:

http://www.winningelevenblog.com/news/podcast-riot-reacts-final-verdict/

Its brilliant. A great listen for all PES and FIFA fans. :)

Very good listen. I cant disagre with much of what is said. While PES09 may be an improvement on 08 that isnt enough for me to purchase it. I loved Winning Eleven on the PS2 but I really was expecting something new on next gen and at this time Konami aint bringing enough to the table. I played the demo and it still feels like a PS2 game to me. I also agree with the Italian guy on what he says about 2010. I dont think PES2010 will be some new amazing game with things we havent seen before. I think its crazy to assume seabass will produce some masterpiece next year especially cos the majority of reviews of PES2009 are still giving the game great scores even with limited progress.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

is there ANY WAY to change the right analog stick back to make tricks/moves??????

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

I got that itch yesterday and I got the game but I'll be trading it in for Mirrors Edge next month.

When there is a new and good PES game the first time you play it it feels weird but the more you play the more it grows on you and you notice little things here and there and you start to love it more and more. I've played a lot of games and I'm really, really struggling to like this game,

Basic things like pressing the opposition and trying to tackle without pressing the circle button is broken. A lot of the problems have already been mentioned but the worst one for me is moving the R2 skills to the fucking d pad, what a stupid idea! Coupled with the many bad aspects of the gameplay it has completely ruined the gameplay for me.

There are times when I'm on the attack and I'll be in the final third of the pitch and then suddenly Woodgate appears at the edge of the box as if he is playing AM, WTF!

I want to love it but the truth hurts and this game sucks.

This sums up my feelings on the new version ,the graphics etc apart from the running animation are excellent but the gameplay has gone backwards.

Seabass claimed players make more intellegent runs but half the time my players stand still or run backwards, worse that that my CB ends up at the edge of the area quite often.

Its better than 08 but not that much and the decision to change the manual selection and tricks is a bad one in my opinion. I guess it makes the game new to a lot of old players who have to relearn how to use it but its more of an annoyance. Like Junka I will see what the Ps2 version is like and then maybe just play the Ps2 version on my PS3 until next year.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

Im worried that Riot/Thomas has said that PES 2010 wont be a major change since a few months ago thats what they were suggesting. I guess we really wont know until next year.

I never said a lot of the stuff I posted in that review I posted. I agree though, I do repeat stuff a bit :PP.

All i'll say is that I have played it.

As far as i'm concerned, I have not broken those rules, as bashing to me is just saying "PES is shit" with no reasoning, or saying something like "You're an idiot because you like PES" and I have said nothing of the sort.

I have given reasons as to why I don't like the game, that is not bashing and it is actually discussing the game, so stop getting all defensive and saying I want people to convert people to FIFA, and I don't.

That's not really his fault though - more they programming team.

I hope that's true about the ISS team developing PES 08 and 09 and the real PES team developing 2010, it doesn't really make any sense though, surely they would want to make a good game early in the generation instead of taking 3/4 years to produce a good game.

I have hope for 2010, with the "overhaul" supposedly coming, I will give it a chance and not dismiss it until I see some gameplay footage (probably about 9/10 months away...).

I agree about BAL, it's a pretty good mode, I just wish the AI was better in it - you can make a good run and then they don't pass to you when you're in space and would be through on goal if they did play you in, happens every game to me.
The defenders are also very easy to skin I find, and I have only just started and have very low stats - the 90 degree feint thing turns defenders inside out every time with proper timing, even on Top Player, and that's not a good thing, it should be much harder.

I have no idea why the ISS guys get the first cracks but Seabass said that's how it works in an interview years ago in the official PS1 magazine when he was launching the first ISS Pro Evo game.

I guess it's just how things work there like the inability, or the lack of desire to share technology and data between each other helping each other.

ea did exactly that they made a huge effort and it took them over 3 years (starting development in 2005 till 2009) to reach fifa09 status...
Anyway a bad pes is harming fifa's quality in a huge way....the example is in front of us...

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

Why can't the people making fan chant files use their own brains and ears and work out throwing in a chant where 3 fans standing in a tin bath screaming at full volume DOES NOT fit in, work or sound good when added right after a huge crowd chant or after a short silent part.

All it needs is a few seconds of crowd cheering... getting louder and louder then blending in a chant that gets louder as the cheering gets slightly quieter... then you go back to the fans cheering... then you blend in another chant. And you make sure they're not hugely specific and clear to hear so you dont hear the same chants 10 times a minute. Or 1 generic fan chant file with a club specific chant/cheer in the middle.

All I'm finding so far are 30 chants all thrown in in a random order and bodged together in seconds

FFS... I might have a go at making some chants of my own this week if i can find a good base crowd noise

Is the fact that Fifa isnt a threat to Konami in Japan have an effect on how Konami view EA's Fifa in relation to PES?

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

Holy crap - some blonde guy at man utd scored past me and i was thinking who the hell? oh it must be fletcher.... but no its Berbatov!?

Some of the faces in this game are shocking - at least with the option file I'm using which as far as i know didn't change any appearances.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

Some little things I like about the game:
Goal kicks being fairly long
Being able to wrong foot defenders to go past them
The training matches in BAL, it's good having to play well in training to improve/try and get on the bench.
The well struck shots
The goal line scraps/scrappy goals in the box
Crossing + headers (maybe a bit easy though)

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

I'm not even going to bother illegally downloading this game.

I think that says it all.
