Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

I wish the was a bit more fluid and fast (PS3 here). I have to learn to play differently as I've been playing a lot of PES 2008 on the PS2.

I still prefer the PS2 version because of it's speed and responsiveness but I will play both versions this year.

Please feel free to add me as your friend on PSN, my user name is bojador_pt.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

I played BAL alot last night, after 8 weeks got a on the bench for 4 games, and then I got a start, not seen the bug yet though, it all worked smoothly, really enjoyed it.

Shame I have to start again tonight on PS3

Yea, its great. I love that they have the subs bench in (let BAP down) and even though you have to sit through the match in Fast Forward, it still adds another level to the BAP/BAL experience and you are just not 'In' or 'Out' of the side.

Looking forward to making the 1st team breakthrough!

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

Hi people. Just got my copy today on the ps3. First impression is that its better than 20008; finally no more slowdowns (that is so far at least)and thus i can enjoy all stadiums. One question though: WHY OH WHY I am still not allowed to control the opponent team in a cup or league mode?? Why konami did you remove this from 2008? it seems so simple to put it back in..

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

Went to buy Saints row 2 this morning and took fifa to trade just while i'd get a good price and spotted they had a poster for 'trade in fifa 09 and get pes09 for £9.99'

So i grabbed it and saints row 2 - Though i've not touched PES yet as the install of SR2 took about 6 minutes and after creating myself and then getting bored or all of the sliders to widen parts of the face and hitting start then just starting the game - then doing the opening mission... my morning has gone.

The OF on WE Blog looks stunning - roll on next week

lol, fell into the same trap. Spent about 45 minutes on it - and it looks nothing like me!

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

My last PES was 6 so I'm not sure how much is new, but I'm loving the L1 chip, really smoothly done. I stopped using it in the old PES because it looked so shite.

what about the intelligent r1 chip? ;)

P.S. - Would any of you guys mind if I added a couple of you to PSN next week, for us to play some Legends sometime? :)

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

hi can anyone publish a list of all the transfers that need to be done for spanish , english , and italian league , so i can start my master league with the right players and then get the wenb of when it comes out next week ,

like this i can play master league with the transfers and when the OF comes out the kits will be changed and i wont have to start another master league or BAL.

thanks that would be very helpfull for a lot of people i think .

also if any one can post this in wenb , cuz my login d dont work since the forums went down , and try to get adam to post it there or get alink from somewhere. gona get the game today from GAME shop , gona trade in m fifa 09 and last years pes08 , cant wait , for it.

thanks for any one that does this as it will help alot of people waiting for wenb option file on ps3.

have u really traded in fifa09?

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

have u really traded in fifa09?

Yeah they already have a huge pile of 2nd hand copies for £25 so if PES doesn't give me any joy i can always return to fifa09 and just put up with the annoyances.

Has anyone seen a Substitution cut scene yet ? Or have Konami been to lazy to put it in.

They were in the demo so I'd assume they're in the full version.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

the substitution usually can be seen when yer leading in a match against CPU. If its a against a human it can be seen most of the time.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

bojador, I'm loving the pace. Building up on midfield feels awesome.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

I'm loving BAL - I've a stupid smile on my face as I type this.

I've sunk so low that I'm now berating my CPU teammates if they don't pass to me!

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

My quick thoughts (not that anybody cares but I'll throw them in anyway)...

Good things:
  • Graphics are fantastic (especially on PC).
  • One half of the commentary team (Jon Champion) does an amazing job, you really feel it when he screams "the HEADERRRR!"
  • The difference between each team is more noticeable than ever before, playing a poor team and then a great team you notice lots of differences in the play.
  • CPU cheating appears to have been reduced, which is something I've wanted to see for years. It's still there but it's not as noticeable.
  • Dribbling is great, in FIFA you find yourself passing around people because if you try to dribble around them they'll just knock the ball away.
  • Be A Legend is a great little mode, and I like that you can find yourself substituted for playing poorly or stuck on the bench for a long time.

Bad things:
  • Goalkeepers are as limp-wristed as Graham Norton, what the hell is wrong with them? They couldn't hold a shot from a toddler! They palm the ball in so often!
  • Because of the goalkeepers the scorelines are ridiculous, my first AI game on regular was 6-0 to me, on the hardest difficulty I won 3-0 against a better side than me (on PES 2008 I'd usually draw); against another human one match finished 8-3.
  • Referees are even worse than they are in FIFA, straight reds for absolutely nothing; the AI had two sent off in each of the first two games I played.
  • Has the advantage rule seriously been taken out? I've not seen it yet. I've heard people saying it's been taken out but I don't know if that's true or not, either way it's weird that Konami have fiddled with it.
  • Movement is stuck in the year 2000, it's so horribly stiff, and very difficult to get used to after the freedom of FIFA.
  • Passing is so unrealistic, you can hit inch-perfect passes when facing the completely opposite way with three defenders around you.
  • The AI of your teammates is pretty poor, even with the best teams. Countless times I've been attacking down the wing ready to cut inside and do a little pass to the striker, who is moving very very slowly forward as it is - then suddenly he decides to RUN BACKWARDS! Yeah thanks for that Torres, you'd better run back and defend!
  • Online play is the same as last year with Houdinis teleporting all over the pitch. This isn't Seabass though, this is Konami; their servers are notoriously bad.
  • It's far too easy (especially online) to pass the ball to a fast player, run down the wing, cross and score. Very little skill involved when playing most people, and even when you're playing the AI you know you can always pass it to the fast player when you need a goal.
  • I know FIFA has a huge amount of bugs but some of the bugs in PES have to be seen to be believed; goalkeepers disappearing into the pitch when they've dived to save a shot and letting the ball in, goalkeepers almost jumping over the crossbar to save a high shot (like Superman with a rocket up his arse), Be A Legend games with 11 GKs v 11 GKs, etc...

The first word people will say when they see the imbalance there is "fanboy" but I've hammered the game since I received my review copy (I had to, otherwise I can't really review it can I), and they are my impressions.

It's a fun game certainly and I can see why people would choose to play it - I'd forgotten how great it is to be able to dribble around people. It is definitely a better game than PES 2008, no question. And I think it's a good thing that PES & FIFA are totally different:

I would say PES is Barcelona (the players are ridiculously skilful, pulling off outrageous moves, they're so fast, they pass fast, they dribble around defenders and score great goals) whereas FIFA is a traditional English team (very physical, lots of tough midfield battles and lots of 0-0s - some will find that boring but all I've ever wanted from games is realism, that's what's fun for me).

Nice balanced review Chris and I dont think anyone can argue with your opinion as you are one of the most fair minded people on here.

Glad you could see some good in it though - both FIFA and PES have glaring flaws this year (that both sets of fanboys are in a frenzy over), so too me, it comes down to whats the more fun experience for me.

And I've had more fun with PES in just over a day, than a couple of weeks of FIFA. Maybe one day, EA or Konami will get their shit together. Thats a little unfair on EA who have made great strides, but there is still a way to go with FIFA IMO.

I think mst of your negative points are fair, esp the AI- it looks outdated compared with FIFA this year

with regards to the dribbling and passing, and this is a plus point for PES i think: you are not restricted to playing in a certain way.

I would say to you that if you take as much care with your passing in PES as you are forced to do in fifa you can make some fantastic moves that do not feel in any way unrealistic. With dribbling it can seem slightly arcady when messi etc have the ball but play a few games with everton for example and make those measured passes waiting for space (plus still having the option to dribble around players when appropriate) the game feels more realistic and fun without feeling your cheating.

I think pes beats Fifa in and around the box when you need quick passes, give and goes, dummys etc to create space.

BUT in the wrong hands PES can turn into a dribble fest (tho tonned down alot this year) or ping the ball about like a pinball without much thought.

I like this open to any style approach tho. even tho i can be exploited online (and is)

Myself, when I go a big team such as barcelona I force myself to only use messi etc in a realistic manner, i pass it about and try and feed him when he is in space and one on one with the full back, or if he gets the ball in lots of space and noone is in a better position I sprint with him (as he would do in reality) I dont just pump the ball out to him at every opertunity. This would be a waste of players like Xavi and Iniesta who in this version are so important to good play.

something Fifa has yet to mater is the superior technical ability of some of the slower players like Xavi, fabregas Pirlo.

saying all that if the animations and AI have not recieved an overhall next year the sh*t will hit the fan. And FIFA09 is a great game, I have it and I am keeping it.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

I think pes beats Fifa in and around the box
I think that's fair, although I wouldn't say because of the passing (stick FIFA's passing on assisted and you can do the same), I would say because you can run at men without being scared. You can skip around them and shoot, whereas in FIFA you can't do that as easily (well, in my experience anyway).

I don't know if it's the response times alone, but the defenders always seem to be able to knock the ball away when you go anywhere near them. I'm getting better at it though, holding the pace control button helps.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

Good review Jack. I honestly see more bugs usually in PC for "who knows why". In PS3 errors (at least GK's for example) are less noticeable or less frequent. I have the PC version right now and I like it. But your review is very fair one. Respect man!

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

Have to say i am really enjoying this. It's a solid fun game.

Way better than 2008. BAL mode is superb fun.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

played both Fifa 2009 and Pro Evo 2009 and i decided to test both...even though i'm a massive pro evo fan

tested

3 matches on each game
2 matches of Become a Legend/Be A Pro on each game
2 matches online each game

results are

Fifa 2009 won in all my tests...pro evo has been on its downfall since coming to next-gen...this new one 2009 is the biggest disappointment so far...i have loved my pes games and i am a huge pes fan but this is embarrassing for konami...fifa is just superb, only downside is the gameplay but at least thier aren't no computer mistakes in this game unlike pes 2009 were the computer commits a foul and sends my player off...

long time pro evo fan, i'm disappointed to say FIFA 2009 takes it this year

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

I agree with almost everything Chris Bauer said. I remember playing on the PSOne playing ISS/Pro evo because it was more realistic to play (the snes and N64 ones were great too btw,) now since this current gen of consoles (PS3 & Xbox 360) this just isn't the case. I debated for days on if I should purchase it after enjoying (and frustrated at the same time) Fifa 09 I still went and got Pro 2009 because I felt that I owed it that (silly I know).
I don't want to comment much on my online experience, just leave it as 'bad'. The actual game is not terrible but its just not to the high standards of the PS2 heyday. The passing to me just does not feel realistic, I don't know why, I don't always make 100% of the passes but it just doesn't 'feel' right. The keepers, have good reactions, but couldn't catch a cold, they parry everything no matter how soft the shot. The team A.I. players just don't make intelligent runs often enough and the tricks being assigned to the joypad leads to moves being pulled off way too frequently in the wrong hands. It makes the game feel too arcade like. To be honest the reason it now feels arcade like is also partly because Fifa has improved so much these last couple years. If Fifa was as it was pre 08 everyone would love Pro Evo 2009. To most real football fans, Konami almost had a monopoly with the football market, Fifa may have sold at that but Pro Evo way always the real gamers/football fans choice.
I still don't know if I really like the game or not, I do have a real underwhelmed feeling with it though but I need a few days and a few local multiplayer sessions to really judge it. One thing though, it is defiantly better than last years game.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

I actually think its a damn good game. I'm playing it on ps3 having been playing fifa09 on ps3 and pes2008 on xbox lately and its easily the best of the three. I played the demo briefly and it wasn't great but i'm really getting into the game now after a few hours, for me easily the best football game of this generation of consoles.

Shooting could be better and AI defenders seem far too easy to steal the ball from but overall i think it'll do me through until next october.

A very solid 8/10 from me.

Or Roulette of Marseille.

mate have you ever played evo before 2008. its normally a tough game on higher difficulty having to keep possesion anyway so for most of us last years was the exeption too the rule. last year pes 2008was some kind of fifaesque joke.also 2009 plays as smooth as peters skeeter on my pc.and youve got a ps3 you say. mmm and too think some pillock was trying to tell me the other day that consoles are more powerful than pc's :BLEH:
