Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)
16 directions is the number of directions that the player can run in, in PES
Also, it's a number that has been thrown around a lot.
Thanks for the reply, Chris.
How's the MM with Tranmere treating you? Or are you already in BAP:S?
Good luck with that. I found it a bit of a grind using Sporting (which I haven't compared, but I assume that it is of a similar level to Tranmere, maybe a bit better)... I hope they treat you better at Tranmere than they did to me in Sporting Lisbon
Enough with my off-topic.
Best regards,

dude, i seriously doubt there's "real" 360º passing, so 16 directions oughta be approximate. why do you say 16? do you like the number?

I'm not 100% sure if passing is 360, for a start it would only be 360 if you played on manual (which most don't) and even then I think, but I could be wrong, that it uses 16 basic directions and the AI "tweaks" each direction slightly based on the angle of the player the game thinks you are aiming for. So if you press the exact same direction twice but the player is in a foot or two either side of where he was the first time, because there are only sixteen basic directions, it will hit it 10% slightly left/right of the basic direction pressed.
And if you press a basic direction where there is no player at all, it will be a pass in that perfect direction to nobody, which hopefully one of your players will see and adjust his run to fetch it. But again, I can't be certain about this, that's just the impression I get after playing fully manual a few times (including last night when I just wanted to see how difficult it was, the answer - very).
And knock-ons (with the right stick) are 8-direction, with running/sprinting 16-direction.
(I'm talking about FIFA 09 here if anyone is confused, responding to the posts above)
