Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

dude, i seriously doubt there's "real" 360º passing, so 16 directions oughta be approximate. why do you say 16? do you like the number?

:P

16 directions is the number of directions that the player can run in, in PES ;)

Also, it's a number that has been thrown around a lot.

I'm not 100% sure if passing is 360, for a start it would only be 360 if you played on manual (which most don't) and even then I think, but I could be wrong, that it uses 16 basic directions and the AI "tweaks" each direction slightly based on the angle of the player the game thinks you are aiming for. So if you press the exact same direction twice but the player is in a foot or two either side of where he was the first time, because there are only sixteen basic directions, it will hit it 10% slightly left/right of the basic direction pressed.

And if you press a basic direction where there is no player at all, it will be a pass in that perfect direction to nobody, which hopefully one of your players will see and adjust his run to fetch it. But again, I can't be certain about this, that's just the impression I get after playing fully manual a few times (including last night when I just wanted to see how difficult it was, the answer - very).

And knock-ons (with the right stick) are 8-direction, with running/sprinting 16-direction.

(I'm talking about FIFA 09 here if anyone is confused, responding to the posts above)

Thanks for the reply, Chris.

How's the MM with Tranmere treating you? :) Or are you already in BAP:S?

Good luck with that. I found it a bit of a grind using Sporting (which I haven't compared, but I assume that it is of a similar level to Tranmere, maybe a bit better)... I hope they treat you better at Tranmere than they did to me in Sporting Lisbon :)

Enough with my off-topic.

Best regards,

Paulo Tavares

No it's quiet obvious, if you have 8 direction movement and you want to extend it, just add an extra direction between every existing direction so that means 8 more directions.

8+8=16 !!!!!!

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

In this episode of Mythbusters... Does FIFA 2009 have full 360 movement?

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

huh?

i see 4+4, but i might be missing the point. "extend movement"?!

i'm thinking you guys are talking 16 because of analog control.

do enlighten me, folks.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

Up, down, left, right = 4, right?

Then up-right, up-left, down-left and down-right, right? 4 more.

Until now we have 8 directions. These are the normal directions in which you can move the player in PES.

When you run and turn in PES, there are in between directions.

So, the player can move in the following directions:

Up
<middleway between up and up-right>
Up-right
<middleway between up-right and right>
Right
<middleway between right and down-right>
Down-right
<middleway between down-right and down>
Down
<middleway between down and down-left>
Down-left
<middleway between down-left and left>
Left
<middleway between left and up-left>
Up-left
<middleway between up-left and up>

Hope we've helped.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

At least the reviews this year seems to be much more fair than last year, and based on the real game and not in the past of PES. I just hope that it makes konami realize that they are not making a good work by not evoluting the game well enought on the next-gen. I really would like to see a good PES version that brings something really new to the next-gen consoles, like it was in PS2 years. So far, it´s all the same...

I played the final version and it´s better than the demo, but still feels like a 2 year old game... I know they could make it much better...

Maybe expand is the word instead of extend...

Also pjft's post says it all

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

Thanks, Paulo.
I "see" the directions, but we can only control them first 8 you mentioned, right? Or am I being really f'n retarded?

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

When moving, you can only control in 8 directions, yes.

However, if you run, suppose you are running to your right.

If you then turn "up", the player will dribble once in the middle-way direction before getting to the "up-right" direction, just that.

What many people here suppose is that the "manual" passing in PES is indeed 16-directions, only that :)

Paulo Tavares

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

That Eurogamer review makes for brilliant reading. Without a doubt its the best review of the game out there. It hits the nail on the head and I hope Konami do bring a revolution next year for PES 2010. :)

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

FIFA 09 is 32 directions on Manual Im sure while PES09 is 8.

Interesting take, I haven't seen anyone say that yet.

From IGN:

9.0 Gameplay
The best pure soccer around. Pro Evolution Soccer is going to need to throw the kitchen sink at this one.

Remember IGN is hardcore PES backers.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

My game crashes when some of my imported songs try to play for some reason...I'm pretty sure I saw someone else mention this problem, but can't remember where. Have any of you found this also?

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

32 directions! Holy shmack thats 8 directions from 0-90 degree. Are you sure about that.

I'm not too perturbed by the reviews from IGN and Eurogamer. It would really not change my mind as to if I should get it or not. I'm actually happy that they are being critical. Maybe Seabass will pay attention to them.

I share the opinion that PES2010 will be "the one" not because I'm a fanboy, but I saw what PES1 and PES2 were. To me these games were just a rehash of the WE series but with the then next gen PS2 lick of paint. But back then most peeps were only discovering Konamis footy series so it wasn't an issue then.

That said I dont get Eurogamers comments about the faces and graphics of PES2009

Dude you mentioned that IGN should be taken with bags of salt before that reveiw. Why are you being such a hypocrite?
Also PES 2008 was sponsored by IGN.
This year the IGN boys were flown to Vancouver.

edit: sorry for the double post.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

just got my(PS3 VERSION) copy today after work,
here's a crazy story for you

15 min. before closure of the store(free record shop CS Eindhoven,Holland) i luckly got the very LAST copy they had on the shelves:)
The girl behind the counter said yes this is the very last copy, 30 min. ago a boy also came to buy it but then we discovered in our data base that we can only sell this game on the 30th( LOL ),so they stopped selling and the boy ran away then later on after confirmation from there headquarter that they can sell the game today with no problem, they placed the very last copy back on the shelve and that was for me :)

ok ik gonna play now, it better be good like the story i just told you :o

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

No! This is totally appropriate since IGN are always super pro PES. For them to say this, it means that its obviously too good to give a shitty rating. They probably wanted to give an overall 7.0 or something but it'd be too oobvious. If IGN were pro Fifa, I wouldnt have posted this but Im amazed because IGN are PES fanboys!

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

Finally sendit.com shipped the game to Peru today. Hopefully will be here next week on Friday, worst Monday 27th. I cant wait... I will play a complete day and I will post my thoughts...

From what you can tell do you need the images you used to make the kits still needed on your HDD or are the kits and data saved into a huge option file?

Superb! Great job....

For those of us still waiting, can you tell us how you did it briefly? I.e. how you save the images (seperate PNGs, or as a template etc) and how many images can you import in TOTAL. I.e. do you think it would be possible to make the 'Championship' squads using all the graphic imports?

And how much could you change on the kits? I.e. Southends kit is quite detail pattern wise - its got dots on it and 2 different shoulder patterns.

Anyway, great job again! Looking forward to making Southend :))

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

The only thing that bothers me, is the weird running animation of the players, the auto feint thing

wtf? :BLINK: I haven't heard about this stuff..

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

just played my first match AC milan VS Lecce and got owned 0-2 in first half l0l, then but up my AC milan A game one and ended 2 - 2 :)
The game is rly not that bad(lets skip the gay baywatch running and auto feint move),its much and much better then PES2008
i rly enjoy the GFX and specialy the gameplay.
Im playing PES/WE for 10 years and im not a fanboy talker,i rly rly hated pes2008 and i had very low expecations about PES2009, i think thats why i like it.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA TALK OR POLITICAL CHAT)

Really ? It's been mentioned about 150 times in this thread alone.

Some people seem to have a problem about players doing a "dummy" feint move when they change direction. Personally I couldn't care less.

Nice Forest kit by the way, can someone please buy me a PS3, though I might actually try and justify it as a purchase based on the amount of time I save myself in the 360 in-game edit mode. Sniff. :(

Apparently you can import up to 400 Faces, 200 jersey-logos and 40 badges/emblems.

Creating kits is the same as it was usually, there are only a certain number of templates though and you can pretty much make all the popular designs. Sounds like Southend have a tricky kit but I'm sure you could make the majority of it by just trying different combos. Some are glaringly obvious though like the design of last years Chelsea away kit.

Do you want me to have a crack at a Southend template for you pbb?

.....

Radiation - All the files are saved in your PES game save folder so the option file stays the same and the images are saved/converted into separate pes style files e.g. uniform001. Therefore no need to keep the original images as they get converted anyways.

As far as loading images is concerned you just load them from your image folder on your PS3 e.g. stick the image in a 'PHOTO' folder on your mem stick/USB pen then copy them over to your PS3. They've made it nice and easy this year.
