Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

There all full of crap on that site.I wouldn't believe a word in what they say!

Well, you clearly don't, despite WENB saying they played a better preview than Leipzig before Leipzig, and a load of clips of a better version getting uploaded as soon as the NDA expired, proving that the better version had been around for some time.

Pretty conclusive evidence and totally in line with what's been said by people who actually have promo final versions.

Or you can just believe that you, presumably with numerous contacts within the industry to validate YOUR claims, are still right.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Well, normally I would agree with you but Riot is a games journalist for one thing (I've enjoyed listening to what he has said on the WENB podcasts - he's very critical of Konami) and I believe him.

Perhaps this is why Adam has gone rather quiet of late after hyping the version of PES2009 he played.

Erm, that and him recently getting married, and the fact that a fair few people posting on here (myself included) actually really like the demo and would say it justifies Adam's comments and could well be the same version he was talking about before Leipzig...

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

One thing to consider is that using evo-web as a zeitgeist for the PES community is a pretty pointless exercise.

I mean, it was like when the Drudge Report had a poll on it's site where roughly two thirds said that Palin won the VP debate last week, when that clearly wasn't the case.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I've seen plenty of Premier League games lately, although I don't care much for English football, but I fail to see the point you are making, because you haven't really made one. Go ahead and explain how this game is a great representation of Premier League football. I stand by my view of the game.

You've offered nothing in response besides a warning against "PES bashing", and your own opinion that the game is "perfectly acceptable". To me, it is not perfectly acceptable, and it is a huge drop-off from the previous PES games.

It's awful to see PES players turning into that weird FIFA crowd of the past decade.

Ok, well a great deal of Prem football is exactly like high speed pinball with the passing, high tempo, one touch, and often rebound and ricochet football. So that would mean a game that plays like that is a good representation of Prem football. Ironically, I actually DON'T think it plays like pinball football anyway, so I suppose you could argue that I'm saying it's a poor simulation - but because it's a slower, considered game, whereas Prem football is often crazy speed high tempo passing.

But actually, as I've already said, you can play any kind of style in PES2009 (Demo), so it encapsulates either.

I think appreciating a good PES game is a long, LONG way from playing a crappy game which involves no skill other than high speed button bashing just because the kits are right, so I don't really see the similarities.

I think it's better than perfectly acceptable really, I think it's very good, if two years overdue.

Your constant referencing of the US Presidential Election any time there's an anaology required is just getting weird now.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Joe mate, take it from someone who knows better than anyone.

You are wasting your time.

I suggest you just accept the situation, that's what I've done. The way I look at it now, is to be grateful to the people that still think PES is a good game and are impressed by that awful demo. If it wasn't for those people, -everyone- would jump ship to FIFA and EA would no longer have any need to keep improving the game.

I'm actually loving the comments and array of excuses PES fans are coming out with, you should go and have a look on WENB/Pesfan. For example:

Before I would get annoyed by this ignorance/stupidity but now I'm grateful for it. We have the best football game ever made to play, and a competitior that still has enough of a fanbase to drive further innovation for next years version!

I hope any ex-PES fans that are still troubled by the way things are going, can take some solace in that respect.

I just don't get what there is to say it's awful ? Play the PES2009 Demo next to WE6FE which was widely regarded as a good (and much patched) version and it's like night and day in terms of quality and flexibility. WE6FE is rigid and drab (and was even compared to WE7) whilst PES2009 has flexibility.

I just don't get why people are saying it's bad. PES2008 was bad, worse than bad, PES2009 is not. "IMO". ;)

Now is probably the time when I'm wondering why so many people who prefer FIFA are even coming on here any more, it's not a FIFA forum and lots of them have already said they have no interest in playing the game ?

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I've played both Demo's now, and while some of the movement in FIFA was really impressive, the game as a whole is just as flawed and irritating as PES - just in different ways. Fuck knows what some of you have been raving about, you've just swapped one set of problems for another as far as I can see.

They're both 'ok'. Anyone who thinks either one is brilliant needs to lay off the horse tranquilisers.

My personal preference is for PES this time round, I've just had more fun playing it than FIFA, but neither blew my socks off.

Yes, same here, i've played them both now, both were ok/good imo. But i'm still not convinced by the other game...

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

As weird as Tina Fey's uncanny resemblance to Sarah Palin?

I've been Biden my time to use that one. I would think of some more but I think they'd Palin comparison.

Oh, woe.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Here my opinion about the PES 2009 demo:

Another great improvement is passing through the right analog stick. That is really a joy, as this is much more sensitive than in previous versions. You also don't need to press the right stick anymore to pass the ball. Just keep the stick in the desired direction and hold it. After you release the stick, the pass will be executed. Still, however, it demands a very good control of your hands to coordinate things with left and right stick well. Practicing is key!

It was always like that in the last versions, they just moved the default setting of the right analog stick into "setting 2", you can change it back in button config...

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

One thing I noticed was the awful player switching.

I was playing Liverpool and Riera had broken down the wing. Of course he wouldn't have broken down the wing had it not switched from Brown who I had selected to Ferdinand for some reason. This left Brown (controlled by the AI) running towards the half way line, and Ferdinand (unable to be selected by me) legging it across the pitch to the corner where Riera was running to.

Inevitably he crossed the ball once Ferdinand had gotten there, and Torres got the ball before Vidic, laid it onto Keane who was unmarked and Keane scored.

I was fuming.

hmm... Riera is not in the liverpool squad cos konami ain't done the summer sigings, which is why we all will need an OF when it comes out :(

Yeah, I laughed a lot when I saw the manual pass 'overhaul' KONAMI did. To change a bloody setting.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

That's my screenshot I took, you nicked it from my post in PESFan ;) Yes I believe it is new, I haven't noticed it before.

Kindest regards,

yeah I sort of just took it and posted it here, since I didn't have an account at pesfan and didn't want to bother making one :D
The screen reminds me of wrestling games for some reason.
sorry bout that m8.

no need to think about it, its just his own personal opinion.

Definately his opinion, no question. I'm just curious to see the logic behind it. I dont see it but thats also just my opinion.

Your opinion is that his opinion doesn't have any logic behind it? :D
sorry, couldn't resist having a jibe at yer.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Silly question but one i have to ask. Where can i download the song Straighten Out from the demo? :p

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

did anyone notice the lyrics of one song in the demo?

''Its all about the money''

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

haha, indeed it is.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Played the demo yesterday. Not enough in there to warrant a purchase from me. The game hasnt evolved enough and I still feel like I'm a playing a game built for the PS2. The Wii version will probably be the one I get but this one doesnt do it for me at all.

I know, but what I am saying is that it is much more sensitive now. It now is much more playable than in the previous versions, even if you used setting 2 before.

My thoughts exactly. It doesn't feel any different to playing PES6 on my old XBox, maybe with VERY VERY slightly better graphics. The faces are good, that's about it.

PES has been going downhill for some time now and the 2009 demo has done nothing but cement my opinion that PES just doesn't have anymore to offer unless it gets a new development team with fresh ideas.

Yet another year where I'm passing on PES. Konami need to pull their finger out.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I'll be away when PES comes out so I'll be having a look in here when I get back and going through the fifty or so pages by then, and checking how fantastic and utter shite PES is. Before I rent it, I must admit no matter how good it is I'm not looking forward to meeting my old nemesis the dreaded ML...

You've just made a fool of yourself there. There is absolutely no way on earth you can imply that FIFA 09 is about 'high speed button bashing'. It plays a far slower, more patient game of football than PES. It actually makes you pass the ball around and work your openings....much like the PES games of old did before they went down the arcade route. I actually bought PES 2008 about half way through last year because I wasn't prepared to accept it could be as poor as my first impressions. I had loved every other PES after all. It arrived...I loaded it up and put the international cup on the hardest possible level and promptly won it on my first go. This was achieved largely by charging down the wings which for some reason had become this open channel marked by nobody. On top of that, crossfield passes were harder than shots and the game moved at a frankly ridiculous pace. More than anything though, the game seemed extremely constrained and scripted. Rebounds off players were bouncing unnaturally to other players and the ball just didn't feel 'alive'. I've played the 2009 demo and it is definitely better but it seriously feels like they're flogging a dead horse. It feels like they've corrected some of the faults but they haven't moved forward in 3 years.

Probably because we are all long term PES fans who are downright angry at what is being done (isn't being done?) to the series we used to love.
