Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Yeah, you know, perhaps your analysis ain't that far-fetched (albeit at first glance FIFA seems more of a "Nike commercial" tricks simulator than anything, to each his own I guess, I've had enough of that stuff 15 years ago with California Games), the real problem though is that neither of them is fun to play on the long run and, since I've been facepalming at people blabbing about HD and "next generation" a lot lately, despite FIFA graphical engine holding a lot of raw potential, an exceptionally poor players characterization paired up with flat-out wrong anatomycal references, monkey'sque animations and an half-assed art direction which sunk the entire organoleptic portion of the game deep down the uncanny valley sorta defeated the point making the game look underwhelming at best, actually shortening the gap between the EA title and the seemingly not-quite-next gen PES latest release which could've (shoulda? Think so) been a lot wider.

I guess we're back to square one, J-Winning Eleven 9 AC/Sensible World of Soccer/Football Kingdom (those were the days and those were football games) here I come.

What truly leaves me wondering and speechless is how some of the older players, those with brains who don't strive to justify their fanboy'ism-driven purchase of a rather pricy home entertaining system (whether it's a Xbox360 or a PS3 I could care less) whose peculiar characteristic is a depressing lack of worthwhile software and haven't been victims of the "GQ-syndrome" which makes everything "HD", new and technologically advanced cool and fun by default, could actually enjoy these overly shitty games which revolve around awfully convoluted controls and astonishingly evanescent gameplay;

we've gone backwards, notwithstanding most of the userbase is either blinded by the ruling mediocrity or in denial due to fanboy'ism and that's a pretty sad occurrance for the electronic entertainment industry as a whole, at this rate there won't be anything decent to play by the time the next generation of systems comes out (assuming the majors, except Microsoft of course since they seem to have enough cash to burn to cover their terrible gaming division's ass for the next 10 generations), manage to survive the current, disastrous one eh).

Wake the fk up and ttop feeding these software houses, people. Then, maybe, we'll get another decent football game.
For whoever asked: the summary follows:

I am disappointed with PES09 and dont enjoy Fifa09 either. It seems to me that older football games were more accurate in their simulation of football - which again, is disappointing.

What a pathetic post. You are a complete and utter moron and make it sound like this shit actually matters. This is a videogaming website mate, for fucks sake. What a pointless and retarded post (as is this :D). I particularly liked: "half-assed art direction which sunk the entire organoleptic portion of the game deep down the uncanny valley". Yeah. My thoughts exactly.

You know, come to think of it, the surface of my mensal is perpendicular to that of the primary partitions of my place of residence, given that the earth and its accompanying ionosphere was found to be spherical in form.

Yeah.

Holy crap! What has happened to this thread? Must be the demo keeping everyone busy. Except the funny farm escapees that are posting the usual bullshit.
The demo seems to be pretty well received outside in the real world so Seabass will be getting my money again and maybe, just maybe FIFA too but I really couldn't afford both titles in one month (particularly this month as the wifey is getting new wheels)

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Something about the demo that you realize after a few matches is that the developers have basically cheated in an attempt to create a more realistic game. Rather than improve defensive AI, tackling, the ability to out muscle attackers, the focus has been on removing features to force the player into playing a certain way.

Basically, attackers have very little body strength when it control of the ball so that running through defenders becomes much more difficult. Instead, they simply bounce off each other in an awkward fashion, going into canned, sliding animations. Perhaps the most obvious attempt to counter attacking play has been the removal of certain features, the skill moves being rendered next to useless, no longer on the right stick and those that are now on the d-pad are rendered ineffective by a combination of robotic 8 way directions, poor animations and poor collision engine.

The players have been slowed down dramatically, so fast players do not cover ground quickly, and ball control feels stiff. The players themselves feel completely stiff and unresponsive when dribbling. Again, this has nullified the ability to take people on with good players.

The game essentially forces players to pass the ball in an attempt to address the easy attacking of PES 2008. The result is a game that closer resembles pinball than football, where individuals don't stand out like they did in previous games. Users are forced to pass their way through a defense rather than choose how they attack the opposition.

Football is the beautiful game, where you have freedom to express, to play different styles of football. This game has removed that element completely, the very thing that makes football what it is.

You're probably right there, especially the point in bold.

See that's what's good about FIFA this year. There are no CPU cheats. There is no defender advantage. If a quick player gets away from a defender, he stays away from him. The tactics are also amazing this year. They allow you to drop your back line when you have a slow defence in order to narrow the gap between your defenders and goalkeeper. If you don't, the CPU will exploit it.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

i totally agree with the artificial route to simulation theory - it's exactly what i thought when i played the demo at first.

Although it grows on you, it just feels like a band-aid has been wrapped around around pes2008 - the changes are so obviously the result of warping the engine - i.e. no fast players can outsprint anyone, except ronaldo and only when he's running down the wing in the final third - what nonsense.

I've always been dubious of the whole new engine rumour - but so little has actually been changed in this game - slower basically - (take about a week?) that on ecan only assume they must be building a new engine.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

every 'next gen' pes has played like a broken ps2 game - someone recently said it plays like a emulation - a bad one at that.

the ball just feels dead - it never moves properly with any gusto between players - on wenb they kept saying it plays like pes 5 HD - rubbish - go play pes 5 - it will still excite you senseless.

but then wenb also thought manual pass was new - actually it was in the old games - you just had to change the options from click and push to push.

konami didn't do anything all they did was put push as default you can still select click by going to the button configuration by changing manual pass from type2 to type1

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I bet my left arm you will hate Fifa 09. I have no doubts about this. Mark my word, "you will hate it" Why? Cause that's the way it was meant to be.

By the way, it's great, imo.

This. This is my favourite post in this thread.

I mean come on, I don't even need to say it.

What is said here doesn't exactly align with reality. PES 2009 is getting similar reviews as it used to, Fifa might as well have "The ever-improving" added to it's title and all is well with the world.

It's funny in a way because I've watched people complain about the animations, shooting and actually formulate reviews of the game based on Youtube videos, all before the demo was even released. I think a few too many people already had their obituaries pre-prepared before playing the game.

Which is cool I guess but I'm not up for some weird roleplaying, cosplay stuff where we end up writing fanfic about seabass and canadians.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

you people talk to much, you can talk bad or good the game will not change, if you dont want to play dont buy the game its simple.
so stop crying about it, dont like dont play.
in life you dont eat nothing you dont like it, so dont eat pes.
"og good game real football oh so good"
days later
"oh this game is a crap bla bla bla"
poor people...shame on you

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

so its the old skool ps2 editing?
great, i can not wait for a full kitts OF :)

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I enjoyed the demo, I mean it wasn't amazing but nor was it terrible.

I'm losing patience, last year was the first time I bought FIFA since about 1998 and I'm enjoying this years game too. It's getting to the point where if next years PES doesn't improve I might end up FIFA-only.

You seem to have prepared yourself to dislike Fifa - sounds like you have a pre-prepared obituary too.

I think it was fairly obvious from the videos that PES2009 was nothing special. Those that are disappointed with the demo (myself included) have just had their suspicions confirmed. I'm sure there are a few bashing for the sake of it, but I think evo-webbers generally say what they see (and that's why I like it here).

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

demo has been deleted, it's piss poor

shame cos pro evo never used to leave my playstation

And u had to tell the whole world that u deleted it?

Well, not sure what everyone else did, but I played the demo, noticed that the animations were as bad as in Youtube videos, including some ridiculous dribble animations that stutter and where the foot movement doesn't match the direction the ball is pushed in etc. Fairly uncomplicated. :)

All they would've needed to do to please me if to make a better game, with better, more realistic, less feet-sliding animations. Also I now crave analog passing and longpassing, which they've decided to ignore. So I dislike it.

I only started having doubts after I played the PES demo.

It's a mental thing, the expectations game here are playing out in Pro Evo's favour. I thought that I'd find 2009 to be an even worse incarnation of 2008, with no signs of progress or hopes for the future. And it isn't, infact it's quite reassuring considering what was being said here. For example, the animations that looked so deliberate on the videos, which everyone latched on to, was something that I didn't find to be all that noticeable when actually playing the game.

Now, as a result of this, I'm thinking that Fifa has been ludicrously over-hyped. But we'll see how it pans out when I get my hands on it.

Do you mean analog passing ala FIFA or the R-Stick passing? Cause its there in PES, even if it was implemented poorly with just 6 directions.(which was the feeling I was getting, maybe due to my $hitty gamepad).

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Hey guys,

here in Italy we got a demo for PES 2009 in PS2 version, together with a magazine. It about 600 mb. I put the demo on rapidshare.

Is it possible to post the rapidshare links here or I could risk a ban?
I think this demo is (by far) the best one you can find now...
PS2's PES still rocks.

Let me know.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Such an unjustly negative thread of posts!!!!

I've now spent a good few hours playing the PS3 demo and after being underwhelmed initially, you know what, I'm loving it! Back to the PES good old days with lovely high-def graphics!

Some of the points people are moaning about are just ridiculous. Like the sand-bags on the goals. I have been playing PES since the ISS days and I have never ever noticed them!! People complaining about miniscule details like that are just geeks.

Playing a 2v2 sesh tonight, which I think is going to be excellent as it seems far harder to score in this version. Football should be about games with 2 or 3 goals or even nil-nil draws. PES2008 promoted ice-hockey like scores. Goals will be far more cherished now I reckon.

What I've always loved about PES games (apart from 2008) is that you can be playing them solidly for months, think you've seen every type of goal etc and then you suddenly see something totally new- like an absolute thunderbolt of a volley from a tight angle or something. I reckon this version will be like that- not spectacular very often but v occassional moments of pure genius. That's what PES is all about!

If the on-line works well (fingers crossed), this is an absolutely superb game!!

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Am I missing something here, has anyone got the full PES2009 game? Are we all just hearing how absolutely awful or how the best football title ever is coming, is still from the demo...?

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I liked it, prefer the PS3 version, feels more at home as some say. Mucho better than 08, see I never had 08 long, as I just simply didn't like it, I gave it the benefit of the doubt with the demo as that was poor, but final game was the same, and didnt matter what modes they had, It just wasnt my fancy.

This however I must admit I do like it, the computers good, having a tough time against it, maybe worse as I hadnt played 08 constantly, so not used to it at all. Fair enough some animations are stupid, but I have seen quite a few really nice ones, I must say the shots are harder to score, the keepers are good overall, but again I think they fumble too many, weird combination. But you definately need to take your time with shot, even in front of goal one on one.

Played 2 vs 2 as well, was a laugh, back to its old fun times, its amazing when you milk a player, feels good, my favourite thing of the game is the fake shots, you can seem to do any sort, a massive fake shot, like up or down, one at like 45 degrees, or like a little step to left or right and skip past, does look really neat.

Main gripe is the fumbling of the keepers and the sound of the ball is stupid to be fair.

But that was all done on thursday, so will have to test it out more, if im free from Fifa that is.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I noticed a very bad automatic chip shot when you have a tap-in close to the goal.. looks so automatic, I hope to find out that it si avoidable...
