Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Woah, this place does a fantastic job of lowering expectations because I found the game miles better than what you folks were saying.

The clearest change is that now PES is the thinking mans game, the old tricks no longer work. It seems as if it's going to reward those with a footballing brain, with a greater emphasis on intricate football rather than steaming past the last man and lashing it in from miles out.

The way players try to shield off the player behind them whilst the ball is in the air and the little bits like that have been tweaked for the better. There's a lot of depth to this game.

One thing that I haven't gotten to grips with yet is the shooting. They've tweaked the long range shooting to the point where more often than not the ball will float harmlessly over the bar. Whilst this may simply be down to the technicalities of how I'm going about setting up my shooting opportunities, I kind of fancy myself as a long range aficionado and this hasn't set well with me. Similarly they could do with changing the free kicks because they are still way too random.

Overall this game is a damn sight better that what people here have led me to believe. Aesthetically it is miles better than 2008 and is now up to scratch. The gameplay is now much more challenging which is something that we will all welcome.

If you are genuinely upset with this game then I don't think that you would have found any of the previous PES games enjoyable, in which case then the game just isn't for you (and probably never has been)

But yeah, I can confirm that Konami aren't eating babies and they're back on the straight and narrow.

I can confirm that Konami aren't eating babies and they're back on the straight and narrow.

I had a positive experience with the PES2009 demo as well. This is probably because all I want from this PES - like yourself I think - is the classic PES gameplay done justice to on a next-gen console. I think PES2009 should be that. The signs are looking good.

And I loved the shooting!

But it'll be a very long time - if ever - before the sheer cynicism of last year's debacle is forgiven or forgotten. I'll never forget the raw dismay, the whole bottom-is-falling-out-of-reality feeling I got when I loaded up PES2008 on my PS3 and saw the v-sync screen tearing, the frame drops, the stop-motion replays, and the absurdist toytown racing about of all the players.

Konami pushed that game out the door knowing it was incomplete, and knowing that mugs like me would buy it anyway. Two 130MB patches later - months later - and it was just about acceptable. Online play was NEVER fixed.

So Konami do eat babies in that respect.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

better graphics ??!?! what is better : Player models? Nets animation? Grass? Shirts or logos?

better animations?:" maybe"

better lighting? " same level"

Tactics ?" do you really want FIFA to face PES in this field??"

better physic "I don't think so"

better presentation "maybe but pointless"

licenses? "you're right but if we see how licensed shirt are realised......and then who cares about american or canadian leagues ????"

Better pace ? "What's wrong with PES 2009 pace???"

Online? "Did you see how PES2009 online works?"

Now I'm asking you :" why don't we talk about gameplay ?" "Why don't we see which game is more funny?"

P.S I forgot Champions League...Aahh but EA is going to release another game for it.....
yeah tactics in fifa our awesome this year, so yes i will put fifas tactics against pro evo's

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

thanks mate

Nuno hasn't given me much time to come on here since he was born, but I'm still around :)) what u made of demo?

Does anyone know if you can play the BAL mode with the normal long camera angle?

thanks

You can, mate. You can indeed.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

tactics in FIFA this year is very very good. you should try and learn how to use it materazzi. :-) but so does PES. they are good since the early series.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Just like to point out that indirect free kicks seem useless again. Players stand outside the box for the most part and you rely on scrappy goals rather than a whipped ball in the box met by a nice header

Can we argue about the whole South Coast thing ? Cos I find myself in agreement with pretty much all of that and I feel uncomfortable. ;)

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

lol sorry for the offtopic... but you should all download nba 2k9 demo! that really is a sports game! 00'

In the mean time i'll download Pes 2009 to compare it with fifa 09.

Cheers,
lexo.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Blimey, they actually bothered to try and fix it ? I'll probably discover that tonight when I fire it up to remind myself how terrible PES2008 is... I honestly don't think 90% of people that bought it even went online again after their first 2 or 3 games. I know I didn't, didn't even pick it up again come November, but I already know this one will have longevity long into this season - assuming it's the same gameplay as the demo.

Use the manual pass with L1, that seems to work. Though admittedly as with most PES games there's always a doubt that that's actually what I'm doing !!!

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Pes 2009 is a big crap. This game shuold be good for 2006 but not for 2009.Lazy KONAMI!!!!!!!!

I agree to an extent that it's at least a year too late, but it doesn't make it a bad game, and it's certainly not crap.

It seems to me a lot of people are actually still criticising PES6 (Xbox360) and PES2008 (PS3/360) with their PES2009 criticisms. That's not really the point, is it ? It's a good game, and it's good in the way all of the other PES games were good. If you want it to be good in a completely different way, there are other games for that.

What *I* want is a PES game with a ton of stuff put around it that makes me want to play match after match for a reason (i.e. create team season/career/tournament), instead of just match after match because I like to play individual matches anyway.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

One thing I noticed was the awful player switching.

I was playing Liverpool and Riera had broken down the wing. Of course he wouldn't have broken down the wing had it not switched from Brown who I had selected to Ferdinand for some reason. This left Brown (controlled by the AI) running towards the half way line, and Ferdinand (unable to be selected by me) legging it across the pitch to the corner where Riera was running to.

Inevitably he crossed the ball once Ferdinand had gotten there, and Torres got the ball before Vidic, laid it onto Keane who was unmarked and Keane scored.

I was fuming.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Junka do you know how to do that new 180 turn? (seen on your video) , and how to do Ronaldo chop this time around? because it's done different than in 2008

Wel the 180 turn is only possible with some players,
so far in the demo thing i only could preformed with Tevez.

i stil dont have it 100% under controle, but try this
face oposite the direction u want to go,then pres R2 and move that way with ur left analog stick.
YouTube - tevez show off new trick pes2009

the C ronaldo 6x step Scissors is also simply pressing(tapping) the R2 multiple time and facing the direction u want to go
(this move is only possible with C.ronald so far, other player only do a 1 quick step or 3 scissor step)

They fixed the PS3 PES2008's many and varied technical problems (mostly), but as far as I know they never released a patch for online that actually worked.

That game was broken from the start and they knew it, but they released it anyway. I think it's the awareness of this grade-A corporate cynicism that explains much of the bitterness towards Konami, Seabass, and the PES franchise. I certainly feel it, like a hot ball of lead in my gut that burns and burns and will never go away, and I'm usually immune to such things. We lost a year's PES gaming to that pile of shite that came out last year.

PES2009 looks good and handles well and seems to fit the PES bill, yes, but even if it's exactly what I want I'll never forget or forgive the bastards for last year.

I will buy the ps2 version, it will be surely more next gen.

And next time please make a new game konami. I wondering how much it will take you, but the result is pes 2009. Every field a disappointment. Maybe upgrade my pc for NBA 2k9..

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Wii version next year with classic controls for me, Fifa now however.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

...Remember how poor PES and PES 2 were on the PS2 then PES 3 changed everything just like PES 2010 will.

ye. you can put your hopes in 2010, because 2009 is lost for EA.
i'm very very disappointed whith Konami.
think they have a complete new game ready. but they guess they own the stores and dont need too release a new and refleshed game to still on top. its all busines, friends.
only when Konami start to loose for EA we will see some really changes.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

is there a penalty shootout ?

when the game draws?

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

PES was all about magical lasting appeal..

This was lost with pes 2008 completely.

Most of the greatest computer games were based on extreme deep gameplay..

Lowering the depth of the game will result in such shit arcady games and result the loss in lasting appeal..

They made it automatic, arcady and awfully looking..

It was magical feeling to score the first free kick, long range goal, header scissor kick, volley etc before pes 2008, no it's gone for pes.

I cannot say anything about fifa, cause on pc there is no choice at all..

Maybe ps2 pes 2009 will be a good game..

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Ok so got the demo last night on both PC and PS3 here's my thoughts

Just before I start here is my football game history, FIFA from 1st game to FIFA 99 then to Pro Evo Soccer Evolution on PSOne to PES2008 which I bought on PC and didn't like, PS2 was ok, but not as good as pes6, PSP which was good better than the PES6 version, then I got a PS3 thought i'd try 2008 on that, And I had sold it on after 2 weeks.

So I had been waiting for 2009 with baited breath not expecting anything worthwhile

PC version finished first, after installing I was straight in.

Barca v Real first game, first impressions was it looked nice which surprised me due to the bad reviews, didn't think it looked as plasticy as 2008, so that was a good start.

Played the first half no goals, but i found the passing better the speed of the game much better, decent movement and all around felt better than 2008.

2nd half finished I won 2-0 enjoyed the game, only reservations I had was the turning of the players seemed very strange not very fluid at all, and the running motions as previously mentioned are just bizarre, no motion capture attempted at all.

Played 4 more games, and my views stayed pretty much the same as the first game, running still strange, the movement seems good, seems like players like messi and henry etc, i'm glad you just can't run past someone, but once you are infront of them, they catch you up easily, which shouldn't happen.

So then I went downstairs cause the PS£ version had finished downloading, installed it and tried a few games on that.

First thing I noticed was the quality of the graphics mainly the lighting had gone up, but surprisingly and disappointly the speed had gone up aswell, it was faster by a few notches, which I didn't like, maybe it was getting used to playing football on a 42" tv but the speed was different in a bad way.

Players running seemed smoother, turning and running motions still look strange, and i don't like it.

Overall it is better than 2008, which it had to be, it feels more like PES than before.

Not totally convinced though to the point that I went and bought FIFA today so I will give that 2 weeks see what I think, need to play a game of PES when the full version comes out and see what the final verdict is.

I give it 7/10, where as the FIFA demo I would give 8/10

I am in noway a FIFA or PES fanboy, I have spent the last year maintaining a PES6 OF up to date with friends on here, in the hope that PES2009 would be better so i could transfer the details over, I'm not sure if this could be the end of the road or not.
