Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Now i played the demo quite long.

I think i got used to it and it is quite a lot better than 2008.

But I have to say that it is not a realistic football simulation.
It is slow ok, but

Real football is a lot different.

The animations are still annoying. There is also a "robotic" feeling.
The passes are quite automatic and a lottery.

Fifa did a better job in making a footie simulation. Pes are the first time some steps behind.

First i thougt i buy them both. Fifa for ps3 and Pes for PC.
But now i only buy Fifa.

I want to force Konami to do something. As Fifa was shit, people turned to Pes and look what they have done. EA has reacted and has made a superbe game.

I want Konami to give me a reason to turn back to PES because i always loved PES. If Fifa and Pes are equal i would always pick PES but at the moment they aren't.
It will be the second year without PES and the first with Fifa since 98.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

mate i agree with you there, but u seriously cant compare the two games, even tho pro evo has gone stale the gameplay still rocks, if u really do like ur football, u cant compare the two games in gameplay, pro evo still blows it away, i will admit fifa is headin in the right direction, once they sort out the gameplay speed, stiff player animations and players perfroming tricks awkwardly, then konami have to start makin more of an effort, i rekon fifa are bout 70% there, give em a few more years

ps i dont care if its fifa or pro evo i jus want good football

How can you say that FIFA has stiff animations? Are you comparing them to the animations in PES? The console versions of FIFA use a really good animation system that blends animations amazingly realistic, this is why videos of FIFA looks so real. PES use the same animations system as ever and the same as PC and old gen FIFA uses, really stiff looking, like robots. So I have no idea what you're talking about there.

FIFA uses half amount of poligons at least...
C'mon how is it possible to prefere FIFA this Year?!I really cannot understand

Reasonably happy with the demo apart from the running animations which are really stupid looking at first but you get used to them quite quickly.

Reckon the poor sound will be less obvious with the commentary being on top of it- prefer muting it and listering to music anyway!

btw- played PS3 demo and 360 demo- very similar but the PS3 one is better imo. Controller suits the game better too.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

i just bought a copy of FIFA 09 today, still at work though so haven't looked at it at all... but i will be buying PES because PES is the only game you can enjoy when playing with friends , 1vs1 2vs2, 2vsCPU ...on and on...

Interesting, I think the 360 version looks better graphically. It has smoother edges and not anti-aliasing like I've seen in the PS3 demo. I also think the 360 versions plays a bit faster as well. I really hope some of the things such as running animations, ball sound and stupid sandbags are gone for the final version. I won't be holding my breath though.

Dear Juhu00 ,
I personally played both demos as well.
I do not consider animations, kits, faces etc. Here I only talk about the gameplay.
I admit, Fifa is better in some areas. But ball physics -which is the most important- not satisfactory. Yep, Pes 2008 is a disaster about the team work and team defence. But now it seems improved.
For me The best way to understand how good is a game: To play versus a human opponent. And we tested both of them.
Somehow, Fifa2009 looks more realistic in team-work. You can't find huge spaces in hi-level football. So The players behave in a coherence.
But somehow the crosses and shooting is not satisfactory. You don't feel your shoot. But in Pes you feel it and as soon as you shoot you know that it is a great shot or not.
In PES somehow it is a bit more individual. You do what you do and gameplay is in the second stage. And mostly speed is crucial. Slow but gifted players can not produce anything ( like Zidane,Riquelme etc.) The king is always fast and furious. (Adriano etc.) So this makes PES very unrealistic. But in previous series Veron was my best player and Crespo was the king. They were not a speedy monster as you know.
What i criticise about PES and admire about FIFA is : Pressure when opponet has the ball. In PES you always make pressure in hi-tempo. But in Fifa they measured it like in real life. Raul can not tackle you with infinite ammo ! like he never does in real life. He just chases you for a while normally in real life and that is supposed to be. (FIFA solved this)
So Finally I'd prefer a Fifa game with PES ball physics. But It is not possible unfortunately.
Cheers

Manual controls (very important)
10v10 online (fantastic game mode, such fun last night)
More realistic pace (very important)
Custom Team Tactics (Make more impact and are more realistic than any of the PES tactics I have used)
Better AI (opposition and teammates)
Smooth online games (something which has been rare throughout PES online)
Better graphics
Better animations (both how they look, and how they flow)
Better lighting
Better physics (both the ball and the players)
Better collisions
Better presentation
Licenses
More leagues
...

Need I go on?

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

My 2 cents.
Played both the demo on both the consoles.
I came from the Winning Eleven school and as many of you friends, I was so disappointed last year.

Fifa
====
Pro
+ graphics and animations are amazing
+ we have to learn how to play it (it will take time) but I think it is a real move to the football simulation
+ online

Cons
- ball phisics still sucks imo
- the general feeling of the gameplay is not as good as Pes

Pes
===
Pro
+ comparing to the shaming 2008 it is much more better
+ ball is not perfect but far better than Fifa
+ gameplay still rocks
+ This is what PES 2008 should be

Cons
====
- Graphics are mediocre (considering we are in 2008)
- Animations still sucks (why the hell can't they change the shitty run animation?!?)
- It is easy to think that online will suck as always
- This is what PES 2008 should be (but one year later)

What can I say?
Konami failed his second appempt to the next gen soccer. It is not as bad as the worst PES 2008 but still not a great game we were waiting for.

What is the best soccer you can play now?
3 answers.

[1] If you want a next gen title and you want to play it mainly offline with friend, PES 2009 (PS3) is your choice.

[2] If you want a next gen title and you want to play it mainly online with all the new features, FIFA 09 (X360) is your choice.

[3] If you want the best soccer and you don't care it is or not a next gen title, PES 2009 (PS2), or a recent Winning Eleven, is your choice.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I got the other game last night but before i played it i downloaded the pc demo of pes.

Its clearly going to be better than 2008, i dont think that would ever be a question, but its clearly not enough to make me personally buy it this year dont think.

BTW who said the sound is good? I find it shocking - the crowd chants are atroucious (sp)

the only way i can describe them is if you got 50 japanese guys in a hall, got them to sing when the saints go marching in, the adjust the pitch level electronically to make them sound in tune and then amplify the noise and add a few effects to make the 50 guys sound like 50 thousand fans.

Very very poor imo.

I like the pace of the game more, but agan the 8 direction is too obvious now. The graphics are improving but the engine and Animations seem the same.

For me there is too many negatives overshadowing the positives in the demo.

Most annoying thing for me in the last few pes versions (i think cammy will agree).........

How many players in the world tuck their shirts in so tightly? it looks awful :(

better animations?:" maybe"

better lighting? " same level"

Tactics ?" do you really want FIFA to face PES in this field??"

better physic "I don't think so"

better presentation "maybe but pointless"

licenses? "you're right but if we see how licensed shirt are realised......and then who cares about american or canadian leagues ????"

Better pace ? "What's wrong with PES 2009 pace???"

Online? "Did you see how PES2009 online works?"

Now I'm asking you :" why don't we talk about gameplay ?" "Why don't we see which game is more funny?"

P.S I forgot Champions League...Aahh but EA is going to release another game for it.....

Would you buy Coke over Pepsi based only on it's list of ingredients? If PES gives you a gooey feeling when you play it, is that not the perfect reason to buy it?

If people prefer FIFA fine, but it is now getting very boring reading about how great FIFA is when I'm in a PES thread, and I'm more than able to decide for myself whether FIFA is any good.

I don't get why people go on these crusades every October.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Ah well, I'm happy with that personally. Only thing I'd want changing is the chants.

Me too, to be honest I'm delighted with that and I can't believe all the negativity. There have always been critics, but it used to be the case that PES was a great game and the people slating it were just weirdy FIFA-lovers who went for licenses alone, or people wanting specific obscure things that left them very much in the minority.

Now it seems a lot of people just come on here to slate it, as I can't believe anyone who was a PES fan until PES2008 and has actually played the demo thinks it's a bad game. It's a great PES game in the tradition of all the others, and as I've said all along, a playable, non-mistake ridden, logical AI with realistic player activity, with acceptable ball physics and balanced gameplay and a decent editor is all I need to like it.

There's plenty that needs work surrounding the presentation (menus, competitions, more diverse and just better running animations), but the actual AI and the gameplay are excellent. Manual pass is great now it's easily accessible, even with only 8 directions (plus aftertouch).

You'll note I'm not referencing what FIFA has; I bought it last year and played it for much longer than PES, but still didn't think it was all that good a game. Neither game was particularly good last year, PES was terrible and flawed. This year, I tried FIFA, I didn't see any change (and realised they seemed to have mostly added to the online modes), and I've seen much more improvements from PES.

People are welcome to play whichever they want of course, but I'm really quite surprised that former PES players have given up on it so easily, this game has everything they loved in the past, and though it should have arrived in 2006/7, it's here now and from what I've seen it's damn good.

And yes, the chants are a bit sucky, nice to hear "Oh When The Saints" though, even if it is for Liverpool. And at least you can change them (on PS3 at least, and maybe 360).

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

better graphics ??!?! what is better : Player models? Nets animation? Grass? Shirts or logos?
The graphics as a whole, not just little things here and there seem far superior in FIFA to me.

better animations?:" maybe"
Haha, what do you mean by "maybe"? Can't you see that PES animations look last-gen and robotic?

better lighting? " same level"
Maybe on a PC on the highest settings, not console v console though

Tactics ?" do you really want FIFA to face PES in this field??"
Yes, the custom team tactics in FIFA are far better than the tactical options in PES

better physic "I don't think so"
Footballs do not glide along grass do they?

better presentation "maybe but pointless"
Yes, fairly pointless but navigating amateurish menus is not nice to do, especially when you'll need to be doing a hell of a lot of editing...

licenses? "you're right but if we see how licensed shirt are realised......and then who cares about american or canadian leagues ????"
They are accurate, maybe the sponsor logos are too small in some cases, but I can almost guarantee that no kits made in PES edit mode will be as good as them
Americans care about the american leagues and the Canadian league is not in the game

Better pace ? "What's wrong with PES 2009 pace???"
It's still unrealistic

Online? "Did you see how PES2009 online works?"
No, but why would you expect Konami to suddenly produce a great online service when PES has always had poor servers?

Now I'm asking you :" why don't we talk about gameplay ?" "Why don't we see which game is more funny?"
You could talk about both them things, and FIFA gameplay is better to me and I don't get what you mean by "which game is more funny", PES is funny because it is so outdated

P.S I forgot Champions League...Aahh but EA is going to release another game for it.....
At least they made a good job of it though, and had every team in the tournament licensed. It's just one tournament anyway - once you have played it a few times it will most likely be abandoned

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Hi,

i played a lot the PS3 demo recently and i'm quite fine with the game so far.
Everybody who is telling that there is not much difference to PES2008 has never really played Pro Evo or is simpy stupid (sorry)

Graphics are a bit improved but gameplay is completely different.
Most of my complaints about 2008 have been solved, but i noticed some things do far:

goalkeepers never come out to get the ball at corners.
passes are too accurate and too Ki controlled
high passes are too accurate too
Comouter only makes goals with high passes behind your defense.
Shooting is very different (you dont have to press too long, or te ball is in the sky)

anyone else noticed this?

i would prefer any constructive posts here, about gameplay instead of this shitty complaining about the sound of the ball, animations and stuff like that

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Ever since ProEvo6 the game has become way too easy and favors the hell out of attacking football. I think it was ProEvo 5 Where the game was very very defensive and braking down the opposition was extremly hard.

I was not impressed with the demo. The game is decent, very arcadey now and there really is no build up play at all. Its just end to end stuff wich is very unrealistic. Even an EPL game does not have end to end for 90+.

I wouldn't call it arcadey, attacking or end to end. Maybe it's just the way you play it, I've stood around in the midfield and put a foot on the ball and passed it sideways until there's an opening, and found just running at the defence doesn't often work. And these ARE the very top teams, it won't be so easy with the slower players.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Hi chaps,

I have a ps3 but last year opted for the ps2 pes2008 version and was glad i did. So essentially the demo i downloaded last night was my first taste of the 'new' pro evo.

First of all i played it upstairs on my old fashioned 21" tv and thought the speed seemed a little quick but then this morning played it on a 32" panasonic flatscreen and it seemed just right. I have just ordered a HDMI cable so not sure what difference this will make.

If anything my initial thoughts were this feels a bit like the EA Euro08 demo (not a bad thing). Players and movement don't seem to have the weight and feel of the PS2 versions IMO and the ball seems to move a little too slickly but that being said I think it's a pretty decent game so far. As I would normally be using the lower ranked sides anyway whether messi turns too quickly or torres is too sharp doesn't bother me so much.

Anyway, in my first game Liverpool v Real M, Carragher outmuscled Raul in the area and then Raul essentially hit the deck. I feared the worst but to my suprise and i have to say delight (as a 31 year old father surely I shouldn't be feeling like this!) the ref came over and booked the Spaniard for diving!

I will post again once I have played it some more over the weekend, cheers

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Wow!!! U guys are liking the 3D players model? Really????????

2736750d71513e49b8271eae9fb4237c94373a4.jpg

To me the 3D player model of this game is a piece of shit (like FIFA to PC). PES6 and PES2008 have a 3D model much better......

The PES2009 player model looks much better with his shirt out, I can assure you. ;)

Don't forget also that those "PES2008" images aren't the actual game, they're patched, so it's not a like for like comparison, that Man U kit on the left isn't actually in the game.

I think the old model looks "cleaner", the right one more realistic - but needing the shirt out as that changes the whole shape of the upper body. And the shorts are way too baggy on both and need sorting soon.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Great post qwertz7. I have noticed shooting is a lot harder. I had it down pat in 08, but it is eluding me so far in 09 demo, even after quite a few hours of 30 minute PC matches. Does anyone have any shooting tips please? I know the power up bar is a lot faster than 08, but what else is important?

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I'm 35 years young. I've been playing PES since the days of ISS on the nintendo. Most people will agree that it has evolved into a legendary video game when the series moved upto the playstation format. I just don't get the satisfying feeling when I score a goal. Its been like this for a few versions now. I don't think the series is moving forward with this version. Surely next year Konami?

Exactly how i feel mate.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

can't believe people are wanking over pes2009, sure the pitch looks better but c'mon gameplay wise what has actually changed

saintscott, you should have gone to specsavers mate

but considering your used to watching southampton it figures mate if you think pes2009 is the one

I've never said it's "the one", I've said I love it, but there are still plenty of places for improvement SURROUNDING the game, as well as with some animations.

You're right about Saints though, having a side with 8 under 20s which has just started taking other Championship teams apart can tend to heighten your expectations of new things, lucky PES2009 is meeting them. Oh, and we did draw with your lot pre-season... plus Calum Davenport wouldn't get near our first team.

It's a great game and most of the people who've taken the trouble to post more than 4 lines on the subject (and usually those who haven't called anyone a cunt previously in this thread) seem to have a similar opinion.

Your loss if you don't try it.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Things are different from the ps2 days, this is not hard, its just plain crap, from the graphics to the animations and sounds, its not going to get better over time because these things won't improve over time!

The game is just awful and I refuse to pay £40 for what is an update of a crap game. Look at Fifa 09, it shows how much money has been ploughed into it and the gameplay is so much better now as well, so value for money wise and gameplay wise it is the best footy game this gen.

Surely the point there is that you shouldn't have bought PES2008, rather than you shouldn't buy PES2009 ? Me neither, for the record, but I'm glad I've still got it cos I can start creating my mates in it in preparation for 2009's release. That's if I ever stop playing the demo.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

For the guys with the difficulty is using the XB360 controller, you can always buy a convertor on Ebay which allows the use of the PS2/3 pad with the 360. Quite clever I guess.

I realise this is for the XBox, but the 360 ones are knocking about, too.

Its an option, nevertheless.
