But I am very much disappointed by the demo! If you turn off graphics improvements other is desperate bad. May already really konami will r.i.p. PES series.
I hope at least not closing PES 6 servers

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I was obsessed with Winning Eleven... from WE5 to WE10.
I just dont understand where it all went wrong. From PES 2008 onwards, it doesn't feel fluid.

PES 2009 demo was a major disappointment. Graphics look very old-gen. The rubbery sheen and the LIFELESS faces is really poor. I dislike the way they have created the faces which looked more 3D in the PS2 versions. The heads don't feel like they belong to the bodies (it's a problem that FIFA's old-gen engine had) which is crazy as it always looked so well drawn on the PS2 version of PES.

The running with the ball looks unnatural and the ball feels like you are kicking a cardboard box. It really looks strange.

The worst part is really the overall reliance on Konami's AI to force players into making a run. Sometimes they just stand there. Why dont they just steal FIFA's control mechanism where you can initiate a fellow player's run by a button press... in Konami, you still need to use 1-2s in order to force players to move forwards or use overly indirect change-strategy button presses.

Awful. i have given up on Konami.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Played the demo last night, after having played Fifa retail for an hour and actually felt sad. I was going into the demo with a bit shadenfreude as I wasn't expecting much. But it just seems so far removed from the game I, we, all loved a few years ago that it didn't even amuse me how poor it seemed. I could barely recognise anything that made me want to play the game like I used to.

It just seems so clunky, as Dar put it, with the 1st touch control actually feeling less responsive then Fifa's (probably equal to the 1st touch in the Fifa demo as the retail is improved). And as for it being an improvement on 08, well I would have to agree, it didnt give me a headache like last years demo.

Someone posted it earlier, but it seems very much geared to the Japanese market with the sounds and graphics in-game whilst adding some crappy psuedo urban graphics for the menu's. That type of crap should be reserved for the BIG games from EA, not PES. It's sh!t and has no place in a game that is supposed to be simulation, it only highlights PES' direction to go "mainstream" and with that arcade for lack of a better word.

And then the actual gameplay, well player positioning seems to be totally broken, having played Fifa the opponants and my own team set themselves up as they would when watching a real match, in PES they seemed all over the place with huge gaps everywhere. The physics/animation of players seem to be worse then on the ps2, for example Messi was running full speed along the wing and I was chasing him with some black dude called Beni Noon and made a slide tackle from behind, now with the speed and motion of the players and catching his ankle he should have tripped and fallen forward....instead Messi stood still and fell back over my Beni. I can't remember seeing anything that bad in the ps2 days, it was like they randomly started an animation for the player falling but didn't take anything in to account. And the fast response to button presses is coming at a price, Barca were attacking me and a striker "passed" the ball to a teammate. It looked very very odd so I checked it in teh replay and the barca player didnt actually have a passing animation, it was "blended" in to his running animation, so it looked like a toddler playing football, ie running against the ball and the ball shooting off in some random direction. The game is littered with these types of elements that weren't present in pes360 even, let alone the ps2 versions.

Such a shame.

Oh and the Zidane roulette is in the game, pressed r2 whilst moving Torres and he did it, I don't know how but he did. So a few of you can rejoice.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

The sound of the player kicking the ball is awful enough, what have konami done, how many of you guys are going to switch to fifa now, I am, for this year, or until Konami bring out a true next gen game.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

People saying that they are going to buy FIFA09 based on their feelings after playing a demo are going to miss out on all that PES2009 has to offer in my opinion. I always hate a new WE/PES for about a week or two after it's released but then the nuances kick in, you get the feel for the game and you realise what you can/can't do and it just becomes the best footie game available.

People seem to want everything dished up on a plate. So a team mate doesn't run into space? Press the fookin L1 button a couple of times during passing in a game and you'll be shocked.

Things are different from the ps2 days, this is not hard, its just plain crap, from the graphics to the animations and sounds, its not going to get better over time because these things won't improve over time!

The game is just awful and I refuse to pay £40 for what is an update of a crap game. Look at Fifa 09, it shows how much money has been ploughed into it and the gameplay is so much better now as well, so value for money wise and gameplay wise it is the best footy game this gen.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

as far as value on next-gen consoles is concerned , IMO FIFA09 does get the nod for me. But for all platforms, it should be the PES2009 PC. IMHO

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Is the Legends online mode only 1 player per PS3? is it only me thinking that view could work for 4 player on a single console? then it would be better than captain your country on Euro 2008 which was great 4 player.

Also why is everyone saying the pitch is better than 2008? sure it looks better on the normal cam but when you see it during a corner, throwin, goal kick or free kick you can see its just a flat texture. At least the 2008 had individual blades of grass in these views closeup.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Although not too much will change, I suspect the chants and crowd noises will be different in the full game. That sort of thing takes up a lot of space for a demo download (hence no commentary either).

I'm hoping they put 1 generic chant in for each team and the final version will have a few and also more spread out so they dont just repeat over and over...

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I quite like it TBH. OK it feels a bit clunky still (this may change) but the old Pro Evo magic is returning after last years debacle.

Can't understand people moaning about ball physics. The first goal I scored on it was so realistic (a deflected shot that slowed down and curved its way to another forward who toe-poked it in) that immediately I thought "woah you don't see that on FIFA".

The full game will be better too, it always is.

Overall I will buying this, not FIFA.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Yep I like it, had quite a few "Pro Evo" moments in the first few games that made me feel like I was back at home again after never getting settled into PES08. I hit a great 25 yarder into the bottom corner with Mascherano where he dropped his shoulder and lost his marker. The next game I swung a corner in with Man Utd, Rooney had a bullet header and I was already to celebrate and Pepe (Real) did a superb header of the line! In my last game I just smashed a shot with Rooney that the underside of the bar and went in, Casillas no chance!

One very nagging doubt though. The Keepers! Still total dog turd. In my games against the CPU every shot they take pretty much results in a goal. As soon as they play a ball into the box I'm pretty resigned to it being a conceded goal. If theres one thing they need to patch in some way (other then any inevitable online issues) then its the keeper AI. Reina especially is a liability.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Quite liked the demo - not perfection but good enough that I'll actually buy PES this year (went for FIFA last year).

Some of the criticism on here is way over the top by the way.

Could just be one of those Pro Evo things that settle down.

I'll never forget - I think it was PES6, my very first game, the CPU kicked off and started to attack, I won the ball back and jinked left and right and all of a sudden, I was CLEAN THROUGH from the half way line unchallenged (dont think I scored, but thats just me!).

Anyway, I thought 'shite, thats horrible'. I happened once more and then I never, ever saw it again in thousands and thousands of PES matches.

PES is odd like that. Oh also, PES2008, first few games, I was getting loads of people sent off and thought again 'horrible'. Then as time went on, I noticed it less, till the other day I realised I had adapted my game to recognise what PES sees as a red card challenge and I normally know 99.9% of the time now when I am going to walk.

Think PES is a learning process!

Sure the keepers will be fine - isnt this an older demo build too?

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Dya know what. I dont mind that! It doesnt happen all the time and I'd rather the keepers made mistakes, than make wonder saves all the time (I'm looking at you FIFA, though you are improving!).

Does look quite bad animation wise, but its not IMPOSSIBLE that could happen in real life...

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

jesus guys  this thread is turning into a candlelight vigil!

it's only the demo! full release will be when the final judgments should come.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I don't understand how people can actually even contemplate buying this game, I have been involved with PES and WE since their inception, by that I mean, like most of you, I have edited every single thing there is to edit on pes.

Think back to the days of pes 3 - 5 (in 6 it started getting arcadey) when you used to play with your friends until you nearly passed out. I had some of my happiest gaming moments with Pro evo and winning eleven. However, progressively it has been becoming more arcadey where any old joe blog can actually pick up the damn thing and play. You actually had to learn how to play the game and the best players would dominate, now its all down to pure luck (e.g. horrible keeping, automatic dribbling).

I don't understand what they were thinking with the current control scheme, its just a clumsy mess. What was wrong with the old system where you actually had to use R2 to control the ball and perform little faints (which separated the good from the bad) and the right analog stick to perform the roulette, tiny flick up etc. As I said before the game is becoming more and more automatic where I do not feel in control of the player anymore.

Furthermore, the players move like tanks but I think this is mostly down to the animation. Now I am going to leave all of you that love the game so much with one question.

If we all agree the gameplay was so much fun back when Konami had a grip on how to actually make a game, what do we get now? The graphics arent that great in comparison to other games, yet we put up with it. The sounds are atrocious, and we put up with it. The flow and animations were better on ps2 than they are now, and we put up with it. So what are we actually getting from the game?

It seems that pro evo is self destructing. This is really unfortunate as Fifa 09 (and I have tried all fifa games but never got into them apart from 98) is making great strides, although even fifa 09 does not provide that special PES feeling that used to be. A feeling where you as the player felt in total control of every aspect of gameplay. I for one will not be buying this game as I believe in rewarding true effort.

Please do not finance this mediocrity any further because if you do things will not improve. I would rather provide Fifa 09 with most of the market share if they were to produce a game that was superior to anything we have witnessed before instead of financing Konami and their half measured approaches to providing entertainment. Its a sad day for us PES fans.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I'm gonna get slaughtered for this no doubt :)

But... when I first played the PC demo, I disabled the video and I've only just seen it on the PS3 version.

I think the BAL mode looks superb. BAP is very good on FIFA, dont get me wrong, but something about what Konami have done with the online BAL just looks more (its the magic word folks...) FUN!

I LOVE the little dings and dongs and the running score of your performance. I dont give a frig if its 'arcadey' or whatever - it most likely is and I love score attack type games.

The offline looks more interesting than FIFAs BAP Season (is that now called BAPS? :D). I've been playing FIFA BAPs and to be honest found it a bit dull so far.

Still, dont wanna knock either game as I am going to give them both a fair chance. FIFA is definitely very good indeed this year and PES is shaping up the same.

Cannot wait for BAL though!

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

PS3 Prof - I've come over all next-gen!

(Since Carphone Warehouse gave me a free PS3....)

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

only people baggin this game are jealous fifa heads, the demo is great they have slowed it down at jus the right speed (not like slow motion fifa 09) i believe the graphics arent next gen but this is a demo and i believe they will have polished it up by the time this game hits the streets, pro evo all the way

Dont bank on the graphics being improved.

Anyways, graphics dont make a game, the gameplay does. :)

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Well I have had another crack at the demo this morning.

To be honest it is growing on me a little.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

If you try PES as a fun footy game then it does the job. Yeah presentation lacks as usual but for atmosphere and overall realism fifa will always be in front. I enjoyed the pes demo because it plays better than last year, the kits look great and the games plays fun football, even if the players turn etc more like virtua striker than they do in real life. I'll be getting it on ps3 if anyone wants a game, and will play it as I feel it is intended, fun first. I'll also be getting fifa so I can take my local team through the leagues as usual. If fifa hadn't improved I think I'd actually expect more from pes and would be annoyed, but now I see I can have 2 different approches to footy games and that suits me fine. I compare it to FPS, you can get Call of Duty (fifa) or Team Fortress (PES), both are fun for there own reasons and some prefer one to the other. NOw that Konami have sorted out the mess of 08 (stuttering etc) I'm ready to slip those comfy pair of shoes back on for another seaon after a year's break!

Oh, but the chants suck! Why bother including them?!

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

can't believe people are wanking over pes2009, sure the pitch looks better but c'mon gameplay wise what has actually changed

saintscott, you should have gone to specsavers mate

but considering your used to watching southampton it figures mate if you think pes2009 is the one
I know that people have their own opinion, but reactions like the quoted one are really sad. Oh well, he just might have no words :r1

A lot have welcomed the demo quite positive, which is nothing short of a miracle on evo-web :D

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Well I have had another crack at the demo this morning.

To be honest it is growing on me a little.

It's still Pro Evo, but the animations are so....weird that it ruins the game for me, and the passing still seems broken.

Plus the nets are utterly awful.
