Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I'd take a next-gen graphically improved 'version' of PES5 anyday. PES had been so successful over the past 10 years because gameplay-wise, there has never been very much wrong with it until PES2008.

I don't know where people are getting this PES5 comparison from anyway from just a few video clips. It looks like PES2008 to me but slightly improved on SOME of the videos. If it's easy to score from direct free kicks, then it'll be like PES5 to me...

This Be a legend mode and Champions League mode are improvments in the game, even though i won't be bothering with them as i'm an online only player.

At the end of the day...PES5 was slated, PES6 was slated and they were great. PES2008 was slated and deservedly so cos it was shite.

From the videos i've seen, i'm happy enough graphically with PES2009, but there's no way i can judge properly until i've played it on release.

All i need to enjoy it is the various goalkeeper bugs from PES2008 gone, the framerate issue sorted out and the online play smooth, and have the ability again to edit preset phrases and type to each other online on the PC. Unfortunately, i can't judge these things from the vids so far, i'll just have to wait for release day where i can see it for myself or read about it on here.

Judging by the early online experience from PES6 and 2008, i'll be pleasantly surprised if they get everything working straight away. PES6 online has NEVER worked properly from October 2006 (accessing game reults etc..) and took around a month to stop cutting you off at half time (if you got connected at all) But at least it's acceptable lag-wise and you can communicate and have 2v2, so i've enjoyed it for 2 years now.

Anyway, all the PES2009 bashing seems a little naive to me and a little pre-empted.....Let's play it first...and if you don't like it...than bash it.....and if people DO like it.....don't bash them for it.

I agree with everything you've said.

The PES5 comparison, for me, comes from the views on the WENB playtest, and that of the Swedish lad. They were all of the opinion that it felt something of a cross between 5 and 6.

All the word on the edit mode seems positive, and there are plenty of screens which show it in good detail. Apparently it's better than the old PS2 edit mode, but time will tell.

Spot on. We're all in the dark until we get that retail copy.

Around 9 mins the geezer says he scored 3 free kicks with Wesley Sneijder in one match and likes the long range shooting. I hope he doesn't mean all of his long range shots went in...

10 mins, he says the Goalkeepers tend to parry the shots to the sides a lot more, not in front of the strikers like in PES2008.

Fingers crossed for the quality of the Goalkeepers....

Didn´t notice he scored 3 free kicks in one match only.. anyway if it is true it´s weird. Maybe the oponnent didn´t play well with his wall, I don´t know. I liked the fact that in PES 5 the free kicks were easy because you could punish those guys who just knock your players down when you are buildin up nicely with fast passing. they get angry lol.

In that podcast he also said the recent build he played is much slower than the previous builds, and obvsiouly much slower than pes 2008.

Does evo-web have an admin getting an advance preview of the game?

Yes, but unfortunately 'the game that shall remain nameless in this thread' has already set a precedent by charging for DLC (ie.up-to-date rosters) for this year. It will be a nice surprise if Konami don't charge.

What other news did you guys get from the podcast?

I wish they had asked about a demo release date. My suspicion is the demo Konami has is from the Leipzig build, and that was not well received so Konami decided to hold off releasing it.. The Leipzig build of PES 2009 was missing Champion's League, Be a Legend mode, the nifty new weather effects and groovier ball physics. ie. all the best new features.

Qué?

They better not have messed with the R2 dribble mode and all the little shimmys and such you could do with that. That would be the only reason so far for me to try PES2009.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

The interviews need to ask the hard hitting questions:

1. Are you developing a new game engine?
2. Will this game engine be ready for next years version?
3. When will we see 360 degree motion control?
4. When will we see full manual passing on the X/A button?

Or:
1. are you shutting down for 3 years to make the engine while EA steals all the marketshare from you?:LOL:

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

R2 is even in PES2008...

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

All years is the same here at EW, at least from 2004. It is a bashing fest usually, so I am not surprised about it. Even when the game was at its peak (PES5) people still moaned about it.

My conclusion on this is that nobody can be happy with a PES/WE game. When it releases there are typical opinions like "PESX was far better" or "WEX had the option of Y thing, now is not available" etc etc etc.

It is business as usual. Nothing to worry anyway, I will buy the game and enjoy it. If the other 99% of the forum does not like it, it is fine. I will play the game, not them.
As if I said it myself ;)

@Billyboy, there should also be a question about online, as people every year fail to ask Seabass. Apart from the DLC this year is no exception.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Everybody's always talks about a new Engine and 360 degree movement...But I wonder "are they really needed ?"

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Who has the info on the other side's devs speaking about how hard 360 degree movement is to implement? Anyway 16 or 32 directions should be a minimum in this day and age. And motion captured animations would also be a great thing..

It depends; as good as the gameplay is the only thing holding it back are the animations, which look a bit robotic and dated in some instances. Incorporating new animations into the game may take a new engine to support them, if not a large refinement.

Karim Benzema.

Balance should deinitely be higher, around the 86-87 mark, same with his shot power.

If PES 2019 was still built off the same engine as 09, would you still buy it?
Things need to move on, you wouldn't go and buy a PS1, you wouldn't go and buy FIFA 98, you wouldn't buy a PC with Windows 98 with 64mb RAM and no graphics card would you?

So if the answer to those is no, why would you buy PES 09? The core of that game is about as old as those things I mentioned above.

We've had practically the same game now for about 10 years, it's hardly changed, it doesn't even use analog sticks at all and PS1 controllers had them.
So they have had the chance to implement some sort of analog control (be it player movement or passing/shooting) since 1995 (PS1 release date in UK), yet they havn't even bothered with it in those 13 years, that just shows a complete lack of effort and willingness to try something new.

Exactly. We need to progress with new technology.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

FIFA08 didn't charge for squad updates, they were free.

If Konami charge for new kits and boots (I say boots as they actually change during the season) that will be fine by me, that's a cosmetic enhancement and the game isn't affected. If they charge for transfers that's out of order, because it's their choice to prevent manual transfers appearing online in the first place, and player state affect gameplay.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

@BwA Spectre. Lol now you are not making sense. So what you're saying is that you should judge FIFA09 on review scorer but not PES2009

Cant judge PES froman IGN review...for obvious reasons.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Well, the magazine reviews have been pretty solid for both games (some higher for PES, some higher for the other one), but I was talking about the views of the fellas who playtested (WENB's Suff and Adam), and the Swedish lad (Caniggia) who played the most advanced versions in Copenhagen and now Rome. Their opinions of the game were all generally positive, and would suggest this could be the best PES to date.

I would love PES to make massive strides, but if it's a step in the right direction - unlike last year - then I'll probably love the game. The other game's demo didn't do a whole lot for me. I don't think that creating an overly tactical game makes for more realism. Some have been making this argument about what makes for a better simulation of football. For me, it comes down to what feels like football, in terms of actual gameplay, how the ball feels (physics, weight, etc), how the players feel and react under my control, how well individual players are recreated, how the attributes affect their on field ability, how they react to football situations, and generally how realisticly the interact with each other and the ball. I still haven't played anything that tops PES in this respect.

I know that people will bash the game no matter what. I remember the PES 5 and 6 bashing when it was released. I thought those games were immense, the best football games to date, so I'm not concerned with the negativity in that sense.

Being overly tactical is all up to the player. The ability to do so is there for you. Optional. But whats really important is the package they are putting together. 10 vs. 10 online, Adidas Live, , Be A Pro seasons, much polished gameplay, physics, etc. To me, it's looking a complete package., I can even play online silky smooth and not worry about lag, disconnections (if it's like 08, which it most obviously will be). It has next gen written all over it. It wont be perfect but I think they are totally listening to the community. Something Konami could care less about. Bottom line is PEs is being left behind. IMO. It's as if they are using the original sony walkman while EA is using the ipod. IMO of course.

I dont know. Do you really need a new computer or maybe you can use that ol' 1986 IBM......Mate, gotta move with the times. "Evolution" is in the title and it should live up to that. Otherwise might as well still play PES 2
