hmmm, dont think i had much trouble with summer transfers being up to date on previous PES games :?

but maybe thats because the big 4 teams didnt make much transfer on deadline day lol i believe in Konami to ATLEAST have up to date squads :| (BERBATOV better be at man utd)

saying that.......... it is very easy to transfer players :|

but i dont want to bother transferring players for Newcastle and so on :(

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Do you judge a movie by it's trailer? A book by it's cover? etc...

Prejudice is the lowest form of judgement.

Well, there's a diference between a trailer and watching many many minutes of people playing PES 2009 and watching footage after footage of Seabass talk about PES 2009. Big difference. As for a book cover, that's just ridiculous to copmpare to videos and developer commentary and reading new implementations, etc. Anyway, a movie trailer is supposed to reel you in. A bad movie trailer can bury a movie. Of course, you never know exactly how good it'll be until you play the game or see the movie. I will play he demo but all Im saying is that after 20+ years of playing videogames (football games in particular) you get a feel for what a game is gonna bring. Watching the PES videos and reading about what's not in and whats in the game, etc. I get a very very good idea of how it'll be. I've been playing WE/PES for years to see that it is not embracing next gen tech, at all. It's pretty obvious. Come demo day they'll be 2 camps. The first will be people who will say "It's the best game ever, I wont touch Fifa with a 20 yard stick (blind fanboys) and the next will be those who will be truthful.

What boggles the mind is how people view Fifa and PES like religions! Why? I dont get it. I go for the best. I will switch camps accordingly. PES better next year? I'm there. Fifa better? I'm there.

They used to be a bit worse before there was a transfer window, and they've tended to be up to date for the last couple of years, but I can still recall GLEN JOHNSON (in all capitals) being thrown into a PES version at the last minute after he started a few games for Chelsea, and a few major pre-deadline day transfers are missed every year.

And I'm still not sure they've sorted VASSEL(L)'s shirt name, or numerous other errors that don't get looked at from year to year by Seabass's "massive team of researchers"...

...and of course we shouldn't just go ahead and assume that a fully functioning player transfer mode is in the game either, from the way Konami works I just get the impression that anything that wasn't in ISSPE(1) could disappear at any time should they decide it wasn't important. Where was the transfer or player editing mode in PES6 on Xbox360, for instance ?

It's not like they haven't removed features on numerous occasions before...

I agree with you on that. Last year I didn't think there was any reason to doubt PES, bought it, and it stunk. So I played the FIFA demo, it grew on me a bit, and I bought the game. Then I played it for about a week and it started to annoy me - so BOTH games in 2007 sucked as far as I was concerned.

The difference this year is that I'm now skint, so if either game shows signs of not progressing greatly I won't be buying either. I might even fire up PES6 on 360 or WE10/PES5 on PS2 if I have to.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Almost all opinions, from those who have actually played the beta versions, have been positive, yet, interestingly, such negativity on evo-web. If the demo for FIFA is supposed to represent progress for football gaming, I'll gladly roll the clock back two years and take PES5/6 with high res graphics and ball physics.

All years is the same here at EW, at least from 2004. It is a bashing fest usually, so I am not surprised about it. Even when the game was at its peak (PES5) people still moaned about it.

My conclusion on this is that nobody can be happy with a PES/WE game. When it releases there are typical opinions like "PESX was far better" or "WEX had the option of Y thing, now is not available" etc etc etc.

It is business as usual. Nothing to worry anyway, I will buy the game and enjoy it. If the other 99% of the forum does not like it, it is fine. I will play the game, not them.

Well you may be alone. IGN (in business with Konami) gave it an 8.9 which is a huge huge excellent superduper awesome score coming from IGN. You can safely assume that IGN would have given it a 9.2 - 9.5 if it werent for the ties they have with Konami and PES. They probably wanted to give it a 7.9 but thought it'd be too obvious. Problem is now that they will have to give PES 2009 at least a 9.0 and if many or most people get annoyed at the score (like last year) their "credibility" will go way down. Last year they raved and raved of course and turns out the final game was very ifdiotic to many. It's alack of respect to the consumer. Wanna have a partnership with Konami? No problem, but just make sure you don't review the game cause youll obviously be biased. By the way, 2 other magazines have given phipha 2009 a 9.0 each. Add the 8.9 from IGN and it's obvious that it's super quality. I could really go on and on.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I'll stay with PES6, no question about that..I just hope Diego's manages to release his teamserver and career mod and I could stick with that version until they release a proper one.

I play other games, but what concerns to football simulation, I've tried all of them (including Fifa09 demo) and it's not as good as PES6..so why play it? Just because it's newer?
Open minded... If the game is good, obviously I'll play it. But have you played Fifa demo or seen PES videos?

Fair enough. You played and didn't like. At least you tried it. No game is for everyone but I hate it when people are stuck on one thing out of habit and reject new things. I for one love WE9. But as much as I love it, I need new experiences. Which is why I tried Fifa 08 and like dit. Was it better, pound for pound, than WE9? NO. Not pound for pound but it was a new challenge and the online was always silky smooth for me. Something that PES dropped the ball on last year, if they even had the ball to begin with.

I played Fifa 09 demo and love it. Pure simulation. The IGN reviewer complained that it was too real LOL! Funny how IGN & Co. used to praise old PES's for their realim but now that the tables are turned................LOL! Anyway, I want to try the PES demo. Im pretty sure it will play , look, feel exactly as the tons of videos Ive seen. But there's that part of me that believes in miracles.

Believe...that's not the case..I tried really hard liking PES08, for example. Every once in a while I try it with different OFs, mess around the stats (I have to reduce top speed, acceleration and short/long pass speed by 50 points in order to make it playable) to see if I start liking it...I love the stadiums on PES08, just like the kits..but all the rest..
Fifa is getting better, I admit that...but comparing to PES6, I still prefer this one.
I had some expectations for the new PES, since Seabass admitted it was a bad version, but it has written PES08 all over it.. I would like to try the be a legend mode, but I don't think I'll spend 40 euros just for that..

Fair statement. No matter how good something is, it doesn't mean it's for everyone. I like Casablanca and I know pwople who hate it. As for Seabass........honestly, I'll be direct. Konami needs a new team for PES. Get rid of Seabass & Co. and start from scratch. It is too evident that they have run out of steam, are unambitious and are stagnating into idiocy. Bring in a totally brand new team that is talented, have ideas and love what they do. And for crying out loud, can I design the menus at least? Something as simple as a menu should not look like a 3rd grade arts and crafts project! Oh, and get some awesome audio people, new music...............

Man, it's sad when we have to reminise (spelling correct?) about PES's from years ago:-ll

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I am afraid that Seagrass doesnt even know how bad PES08 was, in interviews he never says "oh we made a mistake, the game was too fast" or whatever :?

he might actually think 08 was good :|

i am afraid that PES is going arcadey :-ll :brick:

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I think the problem is that with next gen ppl are expecting too much about PES and Konami. PES never had good animations and graphics. FIFA always did. But now every next gen game has a very realistic approach, human beahviour etc and you guys are expecting and wanting too much from konami. PES 2008 has a bad gameplay. I confesse. But if PES 2009 has good gameplay I will enjoy it, even if it has bad player animations. i don´t care about it, I just want gameplay. If you judge pes for the graphics and that visual stuff then you should move to fifa, because who wants that and licenses and stuff, always played fifa. And don´t tell me FIFA is a great simulator just because it has all licenses and real player animations. That´s the old fifa fan boy argument. Be careful, you can become one of them ;)

You seem to be showing bits of common sense and logic, all you need to do now is get your head around human beings freedom of choice and you'll be ready for the big world full of people with different preference without getting your panties in a knot.
Also you mentioned earlier that PES was mind blowing and converted you and your dog(mates). Did this then lead you into a crusade to piss people off who enjoyed FIFA at the time then?

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I agree with you, I'm very critic about Seabass work on last PES..there's barely feature improvments from PES3 to PES6..how can that happen? We still have team limitations and if it wasn't for Juce's work, they would have got much more criticism..
They're making fun of every buyer year after year. That's why I think people should stop buying the game..if that happens, I'm sure they'll have to deal with the fans feedback in another way.

About Fifa (looks like it's your prefered game), I feel much more freedom on the build up play..getting a lot of different goals, on PES. In fifa I always get the feeling of scoring similar goals (Im talking about PC version). I don't like the nets, the ball (it's so big) and the shots. Kits and body/faces aren't as good as PES6, in my opinion...It might sound strange, but I get a much more realistic feeling with those cartoonish players (where I can difference the players easily and have a ton of high quality faces) than Fifa and new PES physical appearance.

But yes, it's quite sad that no improvment have been made by Konami in a long time. Fifa is slowly getting better but I don't enjoy it as much as PES6. I still prefer Fifa08 over PES08.

Wow..Emanuel, you 'can't' say that..we had almost no improvment year after year.. We still bought it, so I guess, since we're in the XXI century, that we can start expecting something... Konami isn't making a respectable effort, in my opinion. Some of the issues people complain, and given feedback, aren't like that hard to correct, I think. They simply ignore us.

They release new versions with less features than its previous version. We used to have snow weather, we used to have Others C on Master League, we used to have Home & Away matches on friendly mode, we used to have more match stats, we used to have a lot of things that they simply took away.. for their next gen game! I'm not talking about licenses, I know it might be hard to get when competing with EA sports...but why can't we have free slots. I mean, Sensible Soccer in 92 had thousands of teams!

Problem is that we are not in PS1 or PS2 days! If you dont care about graphics, might as well play PS2 still. Furthermore, there's no need to sacrifice gameplay for graphics on next gen hardware. NONE at all! And even if PES has never been about looking good, where's the harm in trying to do so now and moving on with the times. I agree gameplay is important but physics, audio, graphics are just as important. I ask you this: Would you rather watch a WC final on a 13" black and white tv or a 60" HDTV with an awesome surround sound? The latter I'm assuming? Point is that everything from presentation to physics to features to audio, graphics all help to bring a game to life and draw you in to thehat world as much as possible.

And yes, Fifa 09 demo shows it is a true simulation. PES now is arcady. But all of asudden arcady is better cause it's PES?

I had friends who refused to try PES at the time. Those friends I ragged on. Some tried it, some liked it, some were stuck on fifa. Not everyone has to like everything but it's nice when people try new things.

About the license thing. I never cared about Fifa licenses too much. When I played PES, I used to spend a ton of time designing new crests, uniforms, etc. I loved doing that. I think I spent more time creating custom teams in fact, LOL! And Im not talking about recreating Tottenham or Porto crests either but rather coming up with 100% original designs. And for the record, IMO, Fifa was ultra trash for years. finally on next gen they are totally on the right path. 09 seems it will be amazing going by the demo, the 9.0 reviews (8.9 from IGN which is a huge huge score coming from them). If PES ever gets great again, I wont hesitate being first on line. I am a fanboy of good games not companies.

@BwA Spectre. Lol now you are not making sense. So what you're saying is that you should judge FIFA09 on review scorer but not PES2009

Well, the magazine reviews have been pretty solid for both games (some higher for PES, some higher for the other one), but I was talking about the views of the fellas who playtested (WENB's Suff and Adam), and the Swedish lad (Caniggia) who played the most advanced versions in Copenhagen and now Rome. Their opinions of the game were all generally positive, and would suggest this could be the best PES to date.

I would love PES to make massive strides, but if it's a step in the right direction - unlike last year - then I'll probably love the game. The other game's demo didn't do a whole lot for me. I don't think that creating an overly tactical game makes for more realism. Some have been making this argument about what makes for a better simulation of football. For me, it comes down to what feels like football, in terms of actual gameplay, how the ball feels (physics, weight, etc), how the players feel and react under my control, how well individual players are recreated, how the attributes affect their on field ability, how they react to football situations, and generally how realisticly the interact with each other and the ball. I still haven't played anything that tops PES in this respect.

I know that people will bash the game no matter what. I remember the PES 5 and 6 bashing when it was released. I thought those games were immense, the best football games to date, so I'm not concerned with the negativity in that sense.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

I'd take a next-gen graphically improved 'version' of PES5 anyday. PES had been so successful over the past 10 years because gameplay-wise, there has never been very much wrong with it until PES2008.

I don't know where people are getting this PES5 comparison from anyway from just a few video clips. It looks like PES2008 to me but slightly improved on SOME of the videos. If it's easy to score from direct free kicks, then it'll be like PES5 to me...

This Be a legend mode and Champions League mode are improvments in the game, even though i won't be bothering with them as i'm an online only player.

At the end of the day...PES5 was slated, PES6 was slated and they were great. PES2008 was slated and deservedly so cos it was shite.

From the videos i've seen, i'm happy enough graphically with PES2009, but there's no way i can judge properly until i've played it on release.

All i need to enjoy it is the various goalkeeper bugs from PES2008 gone, the framerate issue sorted out and the online play smooth, and have the ability again to edit preset phrases and type to each other online on the PC. Unfortunately, i can't judge these things from the vids so far, i'll just have to wait for release day where i can see it for myself or read about it on here.

Judging by the early online experience from PES6 and 2008, i'll be pleasantly surprised if they get everything working straight away. PES6 online has NEVER worked properly from October 2006 (accessing game reults etc..) and took around a month to stop cutting you off at half time (if you got connected at all) But at least it's acceptable lag-wise and you can communicate and have 2v2, so i've enjoyed it for 2 years now.

Anyway, all the PES2009 bashing seems a little naive to me and a little pre-empted.....Let's play it first...and if you don't like it...then bash it.....and if people DO like it.....don't bash them for it.
