Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

This page learns us that we must depend on our own view of the game.
The Spanish guy is extremely negative and OPM is euforic and gives it a 9 ! :D
Maybe the thruth is somewhere in the middle. Maybe the Spanish guy is indeed a FIFA-fanboy and maybe is the writer of the preview in OPM a PES fanboy, who knows!

PES est au Festival du jeu vidéo j'y vais direct.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Well you should always test out the game and not just listen to reviewers... but that doesn't change the facts we got and the videos we've seen.

Someone asked for Italian Serie A faces...So they are in...Give a look to "VideoGamesZone.de"

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

They have obviously had the Demo for some time. If they are confident of it being well received why not release it before Fifa 09 is released ? That way persuading those who may be temped to go for Fifa to hold out the two weeks till Pro Evos release. The Delay in the Demo with Fifas release days away seriously worries me even more than some of the bad reviews.

My guess is Pro Evo 09 will be Pro Evo 08 patched and with better graphics, Not a total disaster but far from the game we are all hoping for, If so it will be another nail in the coffin of the Pro Evo series.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Thanks to the poster who posted the OPM scans. I haven't bought a copy of that magazine since last year's notorious 9/10 for PES2008. It would have been nice to see some acknowledgement in this year's review that they got last year's dead wrong - particularly by not mentioning the atrocious slowdown. But print magazines have to dance with the devil to stay alive nowadays.

The proof of the PES2009 pudding will definitely be in the playing.

Who says they don't?
I have said for weeks that the demo will come on 2 october and I still think so.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

Yeah I would think that aswell, makes enough sense.

About the reviews, I think it's now fairly obvious that none are objective. The games and history is so long that I think very few reviewers can be objective and score the game(s) without the bagage. Or it could be that we are more passionate about both/either game(s) that the majority of reviews seem shallow, wrong. In the same way we probably are more agreeable with them when it comes to shooters/racers/etc.

About the reviews, I think it's now fairly obvious that none are objective.

Last year OPM gave 9/10 and a generally favourable review to PES2008. A game that would have been a 7/10 at best to an objective reviewer, who would have taken into account the slowdown, the ridiculous low difficulty, the nerfing of camera angles, Edit mode, etc., and the atrocious online play.

For various shabby reasons, reviews are pretty meaningless coming from the print magazines, but that doesn't stop us all being interested in them. Old habits die hard. Before the internet, magazines were all we had and we trusted them.

The only reviews that really count are from other gamers on forums like this one, really. Take a sample of 20 gamers' opinions on a game like PES (assuming familiarity with the series, and non-fanboyism) and you get a much better idea of the game. Sadly, that'll come too late this year to stop me already spending my forty quid on PES2009, because I'm the kind of mug punter that Konami dreams of.

But if it's another PES2008 they won't get me next year. That's the truth.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

With all due respect, IMO, those who blindly defend PES on next gen are the equivalent to those people who refuse to junk their old cars because of the memories attached to them. I think it's more about nostalgia and not wanting to move on. Perhaps I am not seeing the "greatness" the pes diehards see. I remember when I tries PES on the PS2 for the first time. It was mind blowing and I quickly dropped that other game. In fact it made that other game look like total trash. Now, IMO, the tables have totally turned. Totally. It's a shame on Konami's part but it's their own fault. Also to blame are the blind PES sheep who will support anything PES regardless of how sloppy and unambitious. I think alot of people are still in denial about PES. I also think alot of people are attaching old memories to the PES's on next gen. Just my 2 cents.

This is just my opinion. Not gospel and not written in stone. Im not afraid to post it. Afterall, people see things differently. I wish I could be excited about PES 2009 and I wish I loved PES 2008. But before the hornets come ot, the key word in that post is "blindly". If you do not support PES BLINDLY, then the post obviously doesn't refer to you. There should be less hornets now.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

That opm review is awful - barely mentions any game mechanics.

Re PES and it's supposed revolution next year -

the comments that ignited this 2010 revolution rumour were seabass' last year when he said pes would go back to the drawing board. Well...

in the frankly embarassing konami on stage demo at leipzig where the asian konami rep tried to convince us there were new tricks in the game (it turned out that players this year can 'change direction') he used the words "we've gone back to the drawing board". And now seabass, in that ign interview that's so moronic it defies gravity, uses the word revolution.

Well - firstly i think we just got our revolution (i think it mainly involved adding depth of field in cinematics) and secondly, EA have just shown what it takes to embrace next gen technology in a football game - knoami look like del boy and rodders in comparison.

The fact is that anyone who claims those videos, whilst servicable, are better than pes5 (and relatively, we7) is fooling themselves. For the love of marmite, the ball barely moves along the ground, crosses are broken - they just arrow towards the eighteen yard line, the whole game bunches up like a sunday league-fest, and the players move with all the animation of a connect four piece.

Think about this - konami have just spent three years producing a next gen game, the central aim of which seems to have been to get the game back to the state it was in at pes 5, on a ps2. And incredibly, they've failed - the game plays worse, looks worse, and sounds worse.

Is it just me who thinks this is insane?!

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

...
Amongst the positives, we could mention the UEFA CL licence, which will bring fully licenced teams like Liverpool, Bayern, Milan, Roma, etc., as well as the posibility to play a Champions League as a new game mode.

Bayern licensed now ? The complete CL licensed? The game seems to change with every new review coming out ...

regards,

Paul.S

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion Etc. (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS OR POLITICAL CHA

True, but other reviews pointed out that there is no german team with licenses at all ...

still confusing!

I can only think of a few people that have been in this thread who you're talking about.

This is the equivalent of someone going in the Fifa thread and saying "All Fifa has got is licenses, you sheepy sheepy sheeple, enjoy playing with Robbie Williams lammo."

So thanks again for your advice but baiting the lowest common denominator isn't going to help this thread.

You´re right but they don´t care anyway. They keep selling the game and earning €€€€ because they have the name "PES" on it. Every kid or everyone who doesn´t know much about football will buy the game and think it stills the best and the realistic one.
Who likes football, nice build ups, patience building up the play, much passing and stuff, will start playing FIFA. That´s simple. As Seabass said, the 2 games went in different directions. I admit I am a PES fan boy, but first of all I LOVE football and I will not play an unrealistic game. Damn, even PES on PS2 is more realistic than this.

Again, if you do not blindly praise Konami and PES regardless how lame a product they present to us as great, then it doesn't apply to you. No worries.

Agree. Actually while in New York last week, I played WE9 with a friend and I still loved it. Compared to PES 2008, it is heads above it. I loved WE/PES on PS2 but I like to move on with the times. I feel PES has turned into the equivalent of the old little man who refuses to learn how to use a microwave and doesn't know how to use a TV remote , and always says "Back in my day, everything was great, the world is turning to turd...." It's very apparent that PES has been left behind and will take along time to catch up, if ever again. Why? Simple. You may say, "PES 2010 will be the real deal". "It'll have a new engine.." bla bla bla. But wait! How long before all the kinks are worked out and how long before they maximize the new engine? My guess is 3-4 years. That other company took almost 3 years to get to this point (Phipha 2009). And that's with a dedicated crew, lots of money and obvious drive. I think expecting PES 2010 to be great and king is unrealistic. It's a process they will go through year by year. Not an overnight remedy. Konami took too long to embrace next gen and now it is showing.

Yeah you just know that Seabass will use the classic trotter motto, somewhat edited;

"This time next year, even my dog will be a millionaire!"

One of the most accurate posts on this websites. I switched over to PES only a few yrs ago, but I still feel like I was once a "die-hard" fan. I still find appalling that these nostalgic fans think that "playing PES since ISS" feel like this statement warrants them to downgrade others' opinions that may critisize the game. I played PES6 with my roommate who is a die-hard FIFA fan and he fell in love with it. When we popped in PES2008, it took one match for him to realize a lot had changed for the worse in the new version.

What incentive do we have try PES '09? Do I represent a small majority in those thinking that this game will continue to disappoint? Jeez I remember this time around with PES 5 awaiting PES 6 to come out, giddy as a schoolgirl waiting for what improvements they could make on an already outstanding game. Can't say I wasn't satisfied. Now with PES '09 I feel like I just want to see if the game is tolerable to play. The anticipation is gone, and my expectations are low. I feel when the demo comes out early October, a very sad day for this once PES lover may be eminent.
