Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

To be fair, Kuyt is so ugly they only need about 3 polygons to render his face

They dont look good though in all seriousness - yet Totti looks photorealistic...

I think they only look good when they aren't showing any animation or what u call, facial expressions(opening their mouths, smiling)...IMO

Yeah, you're right, the problem is that you get an editable 3D face model (which isn't even that versatile really, I have two mates in my team's squad who are "off model", one fat(-ish) goalie and a pointy skinny-faced bloke); and you edit it in "inactive" mode - as soon as the model starts showing any kind of expression all of the nuances of the shape of the jawline, face shape and eye detail go and you get a stretched model that doesn't look like the person it's supposed to represent.

Then again, how many of you know what Dirk Kuyt looks like when he's yelling anyway ? Maybe it's a perfect recreation !!? :D

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

The majority of the game will be viewed by the majority of players with the camera zoomed out as far as possible allowing as much of the play to be seen thus resulting in small details on faces not being seen.

I don't know how anyone who can play the game without the camera zoomed right out at distance.

So up close graphics have little bearing on a high percentage of how the in game play is viewed. After a month or so, most of us will skip the goal celebrations and start play after a goal with the view zoomed out.

Many very graphically impressive games across all PC's and console formats, have times during the game where it can look decidely average and collision occurs.

Surely it's the gameplay that matters?

I'm reserving judjement on gameplay until it's playable.

Just my opinion.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

@w's:
respect people for loving PES gameplay. I'm sure PES2009 will give you classic PES gameplay/feeling.

I've been enjoying PES for more than 7 years. Last year was pretty hard for me, though:
PES(PS3/360) was a disaster, I didn't like FIFA07/08 for various reasons and I've given away my chipped PS2 (->no patched PES2008)

it's taken weeks to get into EURO, but once I've mastered the controls and got rid of a PESish way of playing, it was great fun. In FIFA09(demo) almost all missing (gameplay)features/tweaks are implemented, so I'm waiting impatiently for its release.

BUT: PES gameplay has been fun for more than 7 years, and, as there are no drastic changes, it's still a good game to play (maybe NOT the BEST footie game anymore)

I really love that Placebo chap:LOL:

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

One thing I can't understand with Konami, which must be worrying for PES Fans, is that they are leaving the demo so late in the day..From a business point of view it is a really poor strategy seeing that their only competition has released a demo to the masses. Of course the PES die hard fans will buy PES regardless but for the undecided they must lose a considerable amount of sales which in turn will effect development in the future due to lost revenue.

Just a thought. If I had a game worthy of showing at game shows then I'd get it out as quickly as possible to compete with any rivals

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

DEMO do exists now! That's why so many video clips comes out, BUT WHY Konami not open it to public yet?

I think there are a few of schools of thought with demos :

1) It's awesome, but it's a completely new game.
Action :
Show people as soon as possible and they might buy it when it's out.
This works better for non-established games that need to build a buzz, not really PES which has lots of fans already (or did have).

2) It's a sequel with high expectations, but it's maybe not as good as people would hope.
Actions :
Either
a) Don't release a demo at all
b) Release one very late so people don't have time to play it before release, or
c) Release a beta-style demo which heightens awareness of the release but doesn't exactly give away the full features, and allows people to think there might be improvements before it gets on the shelves.

3) It completely and utterly sucks and we know it.
Action : Don't release a demo at all, claim to be releasing one and then hope people forget or release it so long after it's already for sale that no-one cares.

4) It's ok, but the online mode is broken.
Action : Release the demo but don't bother about an online mode, and let the users live test it online after buying the game !

So it could be any of 2, 3 or 4 really. :D

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

DEMO do exists now! That's why so many video clips comes out, BUT WHY Konami not open it to public yet?

Because the public doesn't consist of people who have signed legally binding Non Disclosure Agreements, and Konami wants to allow previews and reviews to the magazines and websites for publicity without letting everyone know whether the game meets their personal standards. The most suspicious thing to me about the PSM3 "leak" is the lack of Edit mode scan when it's actually ON THE PAGE. It's like they're adhering to an NDA whilst leaking info to create a viral buzz.

Part of Konami's strategy of course is because they know they'll shift loads of copies based on how good the PSX and PS2 games in the series were and people hoping they can do that for Current Gen, rather than the actual content of the game itself. I'm not convinced it works, but having said that they've got me interested... hopefully I'll still be interested in November THIS year, given that most PES releases used to see me tweaking and editing stuff well into May the following year (or when the next JLge/FE/LE of WE came out).

Kuyt looks decent here as opposed to real life .

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

If its true as has been rumoured that they are going to release the Demo the week the game is released. Then I think the game will stink. Why Delay when Fifas 09 out on October 3rd you would think they would want people to see how good their game was and order it instead of Fifa 09 A lot of people only have cash to buy one, If Pro Evo 2009 was really good they would release a demo now in order to take a better share of the market. Why wouldn’t they release it now they have more to lose by holding it back. Wasn’t it supposed to be released on 11th September alongside the Fifa 09 Demo. Was the completion to hot?

I wish I hadn’t saw the Roma v Real Madrid video I had high hopes for this years but as soon as I saw the Animation especially the running I knew that it was just a rehash of the 08 Disaster but with the champions league. Ive a feeling that this game will stink I hope im wrong . Any word of what the kit editors like it was a joke last year?

You missed a scenario :)
5) The game is "what PES 2008 should have been"
Action: Release the demo 1 day before FIFA 09 will be released, so at 2 october as a marketing strategy to do damage-control towards people who are still in doubt what they should buy: FIFA or PES ;)

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

I wish I hadn’t saw the Roma v Real Madrid video too, this year i was hoping but there is no hope. I mean i know the gameplay will be good (here i hope again)but even with a perfect gameplay i should play with my eyes closed because i hate the animations and the auto shot feint and without audio because i can't stand the countinuous thud thod thud.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

Is there anything to actually suggest the Roma v Real Madrid demo is actually later than Leipzig though ?

I know the ACTUAL Leipzig demo was nations not clubs, and there was meant to be a different version already with (p)reviewers, and it was meant to be "better" (according to WENB - which probably should come with some kind of health warning now), but is this actually later ?

I haven't seen it, are there Nike boots or just the plain coloured yellow/purple/green/red boots instead ? Is there any sign of the (presumably later build after they lost the Serie A license) "Calcio" logo ?

Does it really look that bad or is it just hater talk from a different video-speed ? What exactly is wrong with it ? (Other than the thud...)

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

The thing is..they lied. They said that they would do it all over again, from a clean board, because they weren't satisfied with PES08. Seems like they prefered not to do so, they must have realised that they would save a lot of effort and people would still buy it.
But we watch these videos and we all get the same feeling..it's PES08 with Champions League and Be a Legend mode. And the Champions League mode is hardly a plus for any PES PC player, because all that can be edited..
In my opinion, it's almost offensive their despise for fans feedback. I mean, even the little things that wouldn't take long to correct, such as the goalkeeper gloves, and those sandbags. Not that they're important to the game, because they aren't..but for their lack of willing to improve the game. If the game itself was good, those would be details that we would ignore for sure, but the thing is, last year's game was incomplete, and PES09 looks the same way. This engine, like FIFA on other years, isn't good. And if they keep working based on this I fear we won't get a good PES game soon. Unfortunately.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

yeaa konami making good moves .... will let people get bored by fifa demo then wil try to invade their minds 1 day before realase of the full fifa game with the pes demo. They started to think. Demo better be good tho :)

Bit of a gamble to put it head to head though - however I am fully expecting to see the wond'rousness of an as-yet-unseen full edit mode for PES2009 unveiled right around the day of FIFA's release for maximum "we don't NEED licenses" effect.

I have to say if I was doing the game I'd have thousands of kit templates, thousands of hair, skin and face edits and customisability, badge and sponsor editing, sleeve tournament badge editor, ad board editor, stadium editor, pitch pattern editor, net editor, a full tournament and season/career configuration based on a simplified FM calendar, and frankly screw the licensing altogether, you can make your own games.

All it would need then was the WE10 game engine but with HD graphics and you'd have everything however you wanted it.

Piece of pee... ;)

Thats a good post and fair to say that its not the "best" football game anymore but is still found to be alot more fun by alot of people.

Actually the Seabass quote from last year which indicated he wasn't happy with PES2008 says about going back to do things from scratch but doesn't specify the year in which the "new" back to the beginning version would be released - there was actually some mention of 2010 in a later interview as well.

I don't mind them releasing a "fixed" 2008 provided they've got a sh1tload of new stuff planned for next year. Which is not to say I'll necessarily buy it this year anyway.

Agree with you on the detail and lack of fan feedback they're going for.

I hope we're not looking at Pro Stagnation Soccer 2008a this year though !

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

The thing is..they lied. They said that they would do it all over again, from a clean board, because they weren't satisfied with PES08.

I don't think they did. They said long term they were looking at redoing everything with a new larger team etc, but they wouldn't be able to change too much for the next version

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

I'd like to read a proper interview with him about the game development process. If i got the chance to ask him a question, mine would be: if he'll ever listen to the fans outside of japan

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

The ignore of fans feedback it is not new. It comes from a few years ago and even in those times the games were good.

Probably Seabass and their teammates should be less arrogant and try to realise they are not the center of the world.
