Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

Last year Pes 2008 scored 86% on PSM3 UK, no comment...

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

I think 83% for FIFA is about right having played the demo. i cannot comment on the PES score because I have not played it, however it seems all the scoring is aimed at the gameplay and once again it appears that PES is the more rewarding game in this department.

Probably a fair and accurate review;))

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

Yeah, that is a pretty balanced review when you look through it. I wish they knew their shit a bit better but I guess we can't complain when we actually have news to discuss.

So what you're saying is that the game is an improvement?

Cheers for the confirmation.

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

I find it really weird that they're only saying this now, why not last year, or the year before, or the year before that, etc...?

The game lost its magic for me around PES4/5 time, it was a chore playing it because I just thought, I've won all these competitions before, as the same teams, playing against the same teams, with 99% the same gameplay and the same "feeling". It pains me that they won't add an extra 2% onto the budget and hire enough data researchers and inputters to have at least one lower league in two or three countries...

Lets face it Chris we have long since given up trying to work out how SB and his team work, I stand by my saying there is a need for a change at the top if not deeper, the product has stagnated and needs new blood.
The die hard fans will always claim game play is king over FIFA and I can see where they are coming from but the overall product has to evolve and develop, how long can you keep playing the same thing year on year with cosmetic changes only...

Because it is the better game.

You can complain about the lack of innovation but if people want to play the best game available to them then that's what they're going to do.

Imagine the 2005 Champions League final being replayed every night on Sky Sports 1, I'd still watch it because it was awesome.

You've changed your mind completely from a week ago then. Wow.

play vs real people (NOT ONLINE) is the only reason i play these games...

Err no I wouldn't, I think SWOS was absolutely fantastically fantastic in it's day but I only occasionally pull my old AMIGA out, if the game does not evolve it will die, things move on and no amount of sand above your head will stop it...

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

Review scores or reviews are very relative.
I haven't played anything of PES2009, but if the game is better than the other one...it must be very good. I've played the other one and i was impressed.
I'm not a big games specialist, but i'm a very big music freak and i am a music specialist. The only guidance i get from music reviews is discovering that a reviewer has the same taste as me and then following his (very subjective) advise. People attach far too much importance to reviews.

I'm sure people who prefer "the other one" will agree with me (for once).

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

Not quite sure why you quoted me in there, I must admit I don't really play online much at all so I'll take your word for it... ;))

teamserver is the programm that will make PES2009 into a manager....just using the game engine....

No comment = i do not want to comment :)
But if you ask, pes 2008 was really bad imho and scored 86%, so for 2009 to be good i was expecting something like 94%, 88% is more or less the same.

Lets try to be optimistic this way:
1-Last year PSM3 was biased and now they are not anymore
2-(more likely)They are not a good source because they didn't mention Fantasista and they decided for a 87% without even trying online modes (you can't review a soccer game in 2008 without testing online multiplayer)

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

Oh and the the lack of new things is also very relative.
In general (and not about PES) it disturbs me that most reviewers think seqeuls are not as good as the first game...the need for new things is exagerated.

Of course PES could do with a few new things...

Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)

You've changed your mind completely from a week ago then. Wow.

Yup

The more I play the more I can see the obvious repetitive goals, slow response (a tiny bit improved on 08) and the total frustration that has plagued the previous 2 efforts.

You first put the demo on and you think wow, its amazing, shooting is improved and the animations are brilliant, but the very heart of the engine is still FIFA08, its just slighty quicker and a bit better looking.

It's overall a better game than 08 but its not giving me the buzz it did when first playing the demo and the FIFA series has never given me the buzz that PES ever did.

I sold 08 because it frustrated me, i sold Euro because it did the same so I know having now played the demo that FIFA is probably not for me.

A great effort and will be enjoyed by so many, and I know for those that like it will adore it but not for me i am afraid:((

If you ever say "bizzaro world" to anyone again I won't hesitate in quoting you on that.

So you're not going to buy another PES game then, you're going to stick to playing PES5... Errr, no you're not, you're going to buy PES2009 and hope it's better. And if it's only 0.5% better, or even if it's worse, you will still play it. You won't take it back for a refund and stick to the old games. If someone offered you a game of SWOS every night you wouldn't play it; a classic is a classic and exactly that. Things move on. I will play SWOS maybe once a year to bring back memories, I wouldn't play it every single day for years on end. Games are better now.

I can't believe you've said that, I really can't. You would watch the same match every night for four or five years (i.e. the amount of time that PES has been practically the exact same game)? You wouldn't watch what's happening now, this season? You wouldn't keep up with reality? Then you're stuck in the past and you don't live in the real world. Perhaps that's a big part of PES's audience.

I'm sorry but that statement is absolutely ludicrous and from my standpoint, it's people like you holding PES back. "Don't change anything, keep it exactly the same. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, and don't try to add anything to it either. Don't add more leagues or anything like that, don't stress yourselves. Don't add online leagues, who cares about that? Just ranked games are enough. Don't fiddle with the Master League, it's absolutely perfect, it needs nothing extra. The entire game is fine. Don't listen to the haters. It's not like they actually want to see the game improve or anything. In-fact that's the total opposite of what they want, hence why they spend so much of their time making suggestions. It's some kind of trick."

The thing about the shooting and the ball physics does not sound good :(

I think you have taken that sentance to the extreme Chris.

I don't think those sort of setemnets are holding Pes back, its the very fact that the konami team have struggled with the transition to next gen...................nothing to do with the fan base IMO.

The game works on next-gen, that's enough for them. They haven't added anything for the next-gen market, they're not going to either. Which is why it infuriates me to read anything that Konami will read and think "oh that's great, we can have another year off". I just find their mentality shocking and I hate to see people encouraging it.

I think they will eventually get it right but there is no doubting the arrogance they have showed for the past 6 years or so.

Spot on. As long as Seabass and his crew see that the fanboys are happy with the fact that they haven't added any new ideas or improvements to the game, they'll sit back and watch the money pour in. It's called Pro Evolution Soccer, yet there has been little evolution between the games since PES5 and even less when moving up to next-gen.

Mate, I'm feeling you on this post. I feel the exact same way about the other game. After numerous hrs and days of playing the demo, I begin to see that this game really isn't for me once again. Players still feel sluggish, take ages to turn or pass, the trick/dribbling executions are practically near damn impossible to pull off in game and when you make the attempt to pull one off, the player does something else. There are just too many similar problems from past games that ruin it for me. I am hoping the final version will be a lot better.

Regarding PES2009, from everything I've seen and read, I think we will get a good game. I am a bit taken back by the shooting as it was expressed in that review, but all that means to me is that I will put more hrs on my beloved training mode to master this. As long as the ball physics are spot on, which they appear to be, it will just take some practice and the right player to get those long range shots to find the back of the net.

there is no "Serie A" logo on players shirts in real life.

There is. And this pretty much confirms that Serie A is, in fact, unlicensed. However, it appears that every Serie A team, is.

No Serie A logo. Just the 'calcio' one I've been harping on about for a few weeks.

It's just not giving me any sense of satisfaction and your post sums it up for me also

Ok i agree with you that Konami is a really really lazy company, i mean, they can't even release a game with updated roster 2 weeks after Fifa release a game with tons of teams perfectly updated and the fact that updating the roster ourself takes about 30 min say's it all.

The fact is that PES ITS MORE FUN, beleive me, this year i bought only FIFA 08 because PES2008 was bad and i didn't wanted to encourage Konami just like you.

I played Fifa, Euro, and now the Demo, they are all quite good and to some extent they are even more realistic than PES but they are just not fun like PES and in the end we are talking about a game and its priority is to be fun.

So now i know i am encouraging Konami lazyness but tell me, what should i do? i can't buy the less fun game just for a principle.

Jesus Christ Chris, calm the fuck down.

The point I'm making isn't that Pro Evo has been the best game ever since PES5, and that in not changing it they've preserved the finest piece of art mankind has ever seen. The point is that they could keep releasing the same game if they wanted and it'd still be the best game out there, that's the way it is, I'm not advocating the position or cheerleading Konami's perceived can't-be-arsedness. So don't project that theory onto folks as it doesn't look good on your part.

To me, it seems as if there are folks treating Fifa as a political movement, as if people are playing it as part of a moral crusade against Konami. Well, if that works for some then fair play to them, but I'm not going to play what I believe to be an inferior game when there is a better alternative. Similarly, I'd buy GTA over True Crime, it's a perfectionist thing.

If you're angry with the game then that's fine, but don't pigeon hole every single person who still plays the game as some brain slug-controlled invalid who buys the game solely to reward Konami for not doing anything.

Also I have the 2006 World Cup final, 2005 CL final, 2006 FA cup final, Arsenal's last game at Highbury and Portsmouth winning the FA cup on my Dvd recorder all because I have a thing for big moments happening live, but that's just me.
