Re: PES 2009 News Discussion & Rumours (STRICTLY NO FIFA DEMO IMPRESSIONS)
Yup
The more I play the more I can see the obvious repetitive goals, slow response (a tiny bit improved on 08) and the total frustration that has plagued the previous 2 efforts.
You first put the demo on and you think wow, its amazing, shooting is improved and the animations are brilliant, but the very heart of the engine is still FIFA08, its just slighty quicker and a bit better looking.
Could you perhaps elaborate a bit with what aspect of the response times that you find slow?
Reason I ask is, I do actually agree that the response in FIFA is pretty bad. However, only in specific situations.
Mainly for me, the dribbling. There just is no "quick feet" mode, where your player goes into a more technical and "quick-to-react" mentality.
In real life, whenever you see Ronaldo or Ronaldinho etc moving and approaching a defender, they shift from running to quickly tapping their feet in the ground, in order to always have a foot as ready as possible to shift or move the ball as possible when the defender makes a move or the situation calls for a quick dribble.
In FIFA, even when holding LT for "slow" dribble, the player is slower, but there is never a sense that you can make him really "urgently" anticipating to dribble or move. So when you want to do that ball roll to avoid a defender, your player sort of has to go from "0 to dribble", rather than already being on the edge ready to perform a move. It is this aspect that for me makes FIFA feel, not unresponsive, but sluggish.
In other aspects I feel it is too responsive, like when trapping the ball in an awkward angle and moving instantly.
So I would very much like FIFA2010 to change the LT mode from from a "slow dribble/trick stick activation" mode and more to a "responsive" mode, where the player keeps the ball close to himself, and the advantage is that you can execute dribbles and such really quickly, and the drawback is that the close ballhandling prevents too much speed (unlöess someone like Messi is at the ball who can execute 2-foot feints at full speed almost. ALso this mode wouldn't be a specific "dribble speed" mode, but the dribble speed should be controlled some other way, maybe the amount R1/RT sprint button is depressed. The "Close control/responsive" mode would be available always, BUT higher technique and dribble stats make it effective at higher speeds. So Defenders and slow big untechnical players would not only have worse reactions and less close control at low speeds, the "cutoff point" at which the speed becomes too high for the player to properly use the close control mode would be much lower than better players.
The "Close control/responsive" LT mode would also improve the response times of all actions like passing, shooting etc, but also possibly reducing the maximum power you can put into passing and shots, since the responsiveness also means that the player will not pull his leg back as much in order to execute the pass or shot quickly rather than forcefully, and you can't just run around holding the "Responsive mode" LT trigger all the time, if you want to perform forceful actions. Also, using this mode would drain stamina more, since the player essentially needs to be so much more tense and on edge with his muscles. Obviously FIFA2010 would benefit from a proper stamina system where a player really becomes more or less useless when his stamina goes down alot. Also the more tired the player becomes it will impact the responsiveness and such of the mode, making it alot less useful for really tired players.
I just realized how much I've written, I'll stop now because it doesn't really matter.
EDIT: I just now realized that this is the PES2009 thread (what happens when you have both threads up at the same time in the browser, though the post I quoted was also in the PES forum but about FIFA, so...

. I'll try and move it to the FIFA09 thread instead, if someone like Chris Bauer or a mod couldn't do it for me (doesn't matter I guess?)
