Well, I think we can agree that Infinity Ward is struggling with the Call of Duty franchise. Now the PS4 has frame rate issues and the Xbox One doesn't. Considering how taxing this game is on high end PCs (for no apparent reason) I'm assuming we are seeing the end of life for the Quake 3 engine based COD games.

... until the next one, of course.

Odd that they would accept 720 for the x1 with no drops in frames yet do a 1080 for the ps4 with frame drops, seeing as that's all they go on about at IW. Although I also read on the link that they are working on a fix for the ps4(as one of the reviewers didn't actually notice it). So maybe they can get it fixed.

So Jay, what would you rather have?

A 720 cock that shoots steady or a 1080 with intermittent drops... :P

Stating the obvious really. Not sure why they left it out in the first place or maybe just getting priorities done.

Anyhow it's all good :)

Re: COD resolutions and framerates, just read this on gamespot:

But for some games, higher resolution can come at a cost. For the PlayStation 4 review of CoD: Ghosts, Giant Bomb editor Jeff Gerstmann wrote that he experienced “a handful of noticeable dips in its frame rate.” However, GameSpot reviewer Shaun McInnis didn’t experience similar issues. Gerstmann wrote later that an upcoming patch from Infinity Ward may solve the issue.

Nah I think it's clearly a case of them deciding to add these features after community backlash. The PS4 faq where the omission of this stuff was first stated just had a "NO" when it came to mp3s and DLNA. They then added the "*We appreciate your feedback and are exploring possibilities." for both options.
Had the plan been to include these features at some point they probably would have said exactly that in the faq, that it would be patched in at a later date.

It could also be that Sony were testing the waters, so see if consumers were ready for a world where all this content (movies, music) is bought through some kind of service. But they were not. It's clearly where this stuff is eventually headed, though.

But now it's on the plan so it's all good. Party on.

Hmm true.

All good for us though. Good to know it's an easy thing to patch in as well (which makes the conspiracy theorist in me think they had it in but chose to drop it until the backlash happened).

PS4 review:

Was certainly expecting more than a 7.5/10 really.

But the PlayStation 4's focus on gaming — and only gaming — is undermined by a distinct lack of compelling software. That failing is sure to improve — better games and more of them will appear on the PlayStation 4 — but right now, this is a game console without a game to recommend it. Early adopters of the PS4 this fall are buying potential energy. We're just waiting for a place to spend it.

Cracking review though, really in-depth.

Wasn't too happy about the 7-8 hour battery life of the DualShock4 either. Wow. Coming from 30 hours of the DualShock3.

But our biggest complaint for a controller that some at Polygon otherwise consider the best they've ever used: over the course of a hundred plus hours with the DualShock 4, the battery life appears to sit somewhere in the 7-8 hour neighborhood, a fraction of the 30 hour battery life on the DualShock 3. As the system only includes one micro USB cable 1.5 - 2m in length, marathon sessions might happen on your floor near the PS4. As with the DualShock 3, the DualShock 4 battery isn't intended to be replaced, though enterprising users may be able to find replacements online in the coming years.

Deary me.
