Next Gen Consoles

In terms of engineering obviously all that matters is will it be reliable? Well it be quiet? Then the next one is how much electricity will it use, then and only then are things like size and whether the PSU is internal/external are important.

I'm as pro PS4 as anyone but trolling about the innards of the console is pathetic.

Well the PS4 uses almost half the electricity when compared to its rival. ;)

You Xbox fans are half delusional

PlayStation 4: Concerns that PS4 can't handle Call of Duty: Ghosts graphics at 1080p

Call of Duty: Ghosts Birds of Prey
PlayStation 4 may have problems handling the graphics on Call of Duty: Ghosts.

Journalists and testers who have played the game on the new console said that its frame rate dropped at several points during the game causing it to stutter.

PS4 plays the game at a native 1080p, whereas the Xbox One lowered it to 720p to guarantee a 60fps framerate.

"One of the key pillars of Call of Duty has been 60 frames per second... and ensuring that was of utmost importance, and the resolutions that appear are geared around that," said Activision head Mark Rubin before the game's release.

However, some reviews have said the PS4 version does not maintain a consistent frame rate.

"The PlayStation 4 version... has noticeable technical issues, sometimes slowing to a crawl, particularly during set-piece moments with multiple effects," said Joystiq.

"Frame rate hitches happen throughout the campaign on PlayStation 4 and, in a series known for its Hollywood-inspired bombast, it detracted from the experience."

Now Gamer added that it was concerned about the issue happening in the title's online multiplayer mode.

"It's rare - it only happened once every few matches - but it is definitely present," it said.

"It's not something we've seen in any Call of Duty multiplayer before, so it stood out as particularly odd and unfortunate, given the frame-rate stutter is significant enough to let targets escape to safety or see you killed during the general mayhem."

Although Activision has not provided a statement, Rubin had previously acknowledged: "There's enormous amounts of work ahead of us in perfecting our game engines on both [Sony and Microsoft's] platforms."

Yep, I posted a link four days ago and was surprised nobody commented.

Ah sorry Dags obviously Airjoca was never going to comment.

Polygon: ”Much has been said about the fact that the PlayStation 4 version of the game runs at a native 1080p, and while that may be true, the game did struggle to maintain a steady frame rate, especially in hectic multiplayer matches. The PS3 version of the game ran into similar problems, whereas the Xbox 360 version maintained a steady 60 frames per second.”

IGN: “On the current-gen versions Ghosts looks nearly identical, though I did encounter occasional framerate issues during the single-player campaign on PS3 and PS4.”

So the 360 is better than the PS4.

Of cod ghosts yes.
Kinda odd that it runs poor seeing as how poor it looks on next gen anyway. Just slightly better looking visuals.

USA ps4 launch very close now so we should start to see videos and gamers thoughts popping up soon.

Even the PC version of COD: Ghosts has framerate issues. I think the reconstituted Infinity Ward just isn't all that great. Treyarch had similar technical issues when they started developing COD games as well.

But yes. I'd much rather have a smooth 720p version than a laggy 1080p version. Resolution can also be overrated when there are "special effects" (like anti-aliasing) at play anyway. Just give me the version that doesn't stutter.

Although to be clear, this isn't a PS4 (or XB1) problem. It's an Infinity Ward problem for sure.

What's everyone getting then? I'm considering a XB1 now via ShopTo's finance. PS4 just not exciting me really. If it wasn't for the heavy investment in music games on the PS3 I'd provably off it.

PS4 next year when Project Cars and/or next gen FIFA and PES arrives.

Not sure how one excites over the other anyway???
My kids want a PS4 so that will do me. The exclusive games are crap to me so not bothered one bit. I'll have a bash on FIFA and they are the same on both consoles so doesn't make one bit of different which console I play it on... don't mention the legends UT as I don't play that bollocks anyway. The pad is a pad. Played on PS3 for years and no issues and also had no issues on Xbox the last couple of years. You get used to the lad after half hour so never understood people's whinging about them.
I'm happy to get either console but it boils down to which one my boys want... and they still want the PS4 after checking with them about 50 times so that will do.

Smart boys you got there:))

I did not comment on the whole CoD situation because I despise that game, and it's shit on any platform.

PS4 handles Killzone at 1080p and 60 fps with no issues, and that game is 10x more advanced graphically than CoD.

Well, I can't say either console is so exciting that I'm going to purchase either at launch. But the only one that looks interesting to me is the Xbox One. While the PS4 may have some great exclusives at some point, there doesn't look to be any exclusive I care about at launch or anytime soon after... (The best games for me are FIFA, NBA2K, and BF4... all on either console.)

If you remove the game from the trays of both consoles, only the Xbox One seems to offer new and interesting means of entertainment. The PS4 looks to have a similar featureless O/S as the PS3.

I'm open to change my mind after each console is out... maybe nothing on the Xbox One will even work, who knows? But, if the PS4 is like the PS3, there won't be any worthwhile exclusives until Naughty Dog starts throwing out whatever GOTY they are working on next. At least the XB1 will be on everyday as an entertainment device. My kids can Skype their grandparents, play Kinect games (they love them), and I'm looking forward to multitasking TV/internet while playing FIFA career mode. THAT sounds like an improvement on the current generation of consoles.

PS4 with KillZone. Possibly adding Need For Speed and NBA 2k14.

Main reasons are the exclusives, Vita remote play, PS+ and I just feel it will be better for games whereas I think MS will keep pushing the Xbox as a media centre.

Really looking forward to Vita remote play though.

That very true but if it was the xbox one version we would have definitely heard about it on here.

It's probably because MS has a NDA in place for the x1 review...that's why all the reviews are only the ps3/4/360. Tbh I expect the same issues to be present on the x1, seeing as IW doesn't mind dropping to 720 resolution I don't see why they would keep the ps4 higher and accept framerate drops. (As 60fr/sec is all they go on about).

I would be prepared for the worst...but then it's only CoD which is crap anyway.

Even if both had issues with framerates, we seem to forget it's just launch. Later games will be better optimized, just like every generation.

True, but seeing as both consoles are so similar in general architecture (AMD, very pc-like) there isn't the huge gap as before, including a year difference in development. I personally expect the current difference to remain, but with better optimizations meaning it will be less obvious as the numbers now show.

No trolling, just reality...

It is trolling when all you do is post these images with no meaningful comments to accompany them.

Some of the tribal fanboyism among the console owners is laughably tragic.

I'm honestly struggling to understand the logic behind it.

You're either happy with your own purchase or you're not. The agenda to try and piss other people off with constant remarks about a console is ridiculous.

It's like trying to convince yourself you've chosen the right path to go down.

Still, all banter I guess. The light hearted stuff is fine, but to do it constantly is poor form.
