Next Gen Consoles

Pretty sure these will be patched later, maybe with the day 1 patch. No way they leave these out. Streaming and MP3 at least are a must.
 
Well rumour were that the PS4 had all the restrictions anyway and when they saw all the shit MS got they backtracked.

It´s possible... Without competition Sony would probably have some of the Xbox launch restrictions and it would cost more than $500, that´s for sure.
 
It's a bizarre decision and one that affects so many people, but personally, it doesn't affect me at all. I've never put music or video on my PS3, never bothered with custom chants etc. I do however use my PS3 extensively as a Bluray player and to use Lovefilm etc, and these will still be there. I presume PS4 will still be unaffected by streaming movies etc as they earn revenue from Netflix etc.

I can see why people are annoyed though.
 
The news is disappointing for me the only thing my PS3 is used for is to stream videos from my PC, using PS3 Media Server.

So that means now that both my PS4's will be going on eBay, the fact that you can't do this and the severe lack of gaming power both consoles have which I fully expected anyway considering they have notebook processors and 2 year old mid range PC cards.

I will go down on record and say "The next generation will be remembered as the worst generation in history".

Not really it is the first time in console history where they aren't anywhere near a PC.

Both the PS3 and 360 were on the same level as a top gaming PC when they were released(the 360 even had a custom GPU which was more powerful than anything available on PC at the time), the so called 'Next Gen' cant run games in full 1080p even though this was a massive doubt when the specs of them were announced.

I wouldn't call it being dramatic it is called being realistic, I was going to keep my PS4 solely for FIFA and it can replace my PS3 as my media centre, but now it has lost the main key feature I use my paper weight for.

Ok mate, so buy a PC and be happy. Let´s not start again a war Consoles x PC here since it´s an useless discussion. Also if you want a console to be a media center you should buy the "xone entertainment system" and not a PS4.

That´s subjective, there are 30 day one titles for PS4 and 21 for Xone.

Since i don´t care about racing neither zombie games the only game that i could have interest in Xone was Ryse. So, for me, the PS4 launch lineup is better, specially because of the free PSN+ and F2P games. :SMUG:

How many of those are actually full fat games and how many are indie? Of the games at release I'm only interested in the multi's anyway atm.

And my comment about the focus on gaming was actually sarcastic, I think it's really poor that they are possibly screwing the media capabilities out of the console (even though I don't make use of them as I have wdtv's under all the tv's at ours).

It's all becoming somewhat of an anti-climax imo, xbox is current-gen 1.5 with extra media stuff, the ps4 is next-gen 0.8 minus media capabilities. And there aren't a huge amount of games so far that are really must have. For me it's definitly FIFA...and maybe AC4 if they have actually update the fighting mechanics.
 
So I can't stream to PS4 but is it possible to plug a hard drive in and watch your films etc from that? As long as I can do that then no biggy.
 
Seems like Sony is as cunning as the MS. Jab them, went quiet for months. Then, nearly launch date all the bad stuff start to exposed. More and more reason to not be an early adopter. FIFA 14 or any sports game for the matter and Killzone aren't enough for me to warrant a day 1 purchase. It need to be much more special and exclusive than that.

I do wonder thought, the announcement says you can't expand the storage by adding an external HDD - which would mean you can't put game stuff on external HDDs. I don't think it's quite clear that you can't play movies or look at images from an external disk.

They must patch this stuff in at a later date, I wasn't expecting Sony to have smooth sailing up all the way up to launch but this has put them in some rough waters.

MP3 playback is such a basic feature, would be mad to take it out. There are more mp3s out there than those you can buy through an online service. This goes for Xone as well, as they don't seem to allow for mp3 playback as well (this seems to be the case but I haven't really gone into thoroughly checking it).

I dont know why people are saying next gen is barely any different to current gen. Every preview I've read of Battlefield says it's a huge upgrade over current gen versions for example. And that's a launch game while having to cross-develop for five different formats.
