Next Gen Consoles

I don't argue that.

And I suppose is a flippant statement

But it is what it is. Don't fucking sell it as a nextgen when it clearly isn't lol

I could build a second hand PC that might and that would be out of date, they rely on much more than selling hardware hence they take a hit

Which one is supposed to be better?

The xo looks better in that one.....so far it seems that larger visible areas look better on the xo due to the texture sharpening whereas geometry in the distance looks better on the ps4. They could just turn off the post processing blur on the ps4. Its like the ps3 with quinqux all over again.

Come on now. If you build a PC that costs as much as the PS4 you won't get anywhere as close to that performance.

Consoles are sold at a loss. PCs aren't. A PS4 or XB1 would cost much more than they do if you paid the true price for those components. The loss made on consoles is retrieved through software licences meaning more expensive games for the end user.

If you build a PC to similar specs as a PS4 - which isn't that powerful in PC terms - I don't believe the true cost would be much different.

I think I've read somewhere months ago that the PS4 is going to be sold at a profit this time though? Like they managed to get the cost around the $200 mark. I might be wrong though.

According to articles from last month it's a $60 loss per unit:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-09-20-sony-expects-to-recoup-playstation-4-hardware-loss-at-launch

Though Sony can redeem that loss quite quickly through software sales and online services, but as usual, the hardware is a loss-leader. That's after Sony get massive reductions on components from bulk-buying as well.

Does anyone actually buy it for the single player though? I think they should just do away with SP and have it a MP only title.

I always play through the SP campaign to completion before getting online but then I'm probably in a small minority to do so. I used to like the story in the old WWII COD games when they recreated real-life battles and events from history. The newer, modern SP campaigns are a bit pants by comparison.

I know many people don't even touch the single player campaign. I bet it's a decent percentage of people as well.

Online multiplayer only would make sense. That way the developers can put more time into creating maps and perfecting the online experience.

I don't play any games online so yes :)

Ah, fair enough. I would say there are much better SP shooters out there that last a lot longer, but I'm sure you know that already :)

Back to the XBOX V PS4 thing, am I missing something but I saw the videos at 1080p and to me the XB1 version looks better. Looks much sharper. Though I think the PS4 might have some kind of nifty motion blur effect going on.

If they look near on identical but XB1 has sharper textures then why is everyone saying PS4 version is better?

To put the loss it into context with regard to high end consumer electronics (although the pc gang will debate the term high end ;) ) iPhones sell at a 350% price compared to their build cost. So if Apple were making the same console it would cost about 1400e.

Yeah that's what I've always thought, the series made its name off the back of multiplayer so I'd like to see it go down that route. If they're gonna do a single player game then they may as well do it justice, both is probably a bit too ambitious for one studio.

As for no Titanfall on PS4, meh, it looks like COD with a mech and jet packs. Not interested at all in that game.

Aren't people sick of shooters anyway? :P

I've gone back to playing PS1 games for all their good stories and finished products. Graphics are crap compared to now obviously, but don't care.

I wish devs don't forget what made games great back in the day.
