Next Gen Consoles

But it is true when viewing from a normal distance. I read an article regarding the point of 4k tv's and they cited a recent research paper that tested whether people could tell. There was even a calculation that showed that the human eye cant actually see the pixel density difference between xbox and ps4 resolution when sitting at the advised distance.

Whether a game is 720 or 1080 isn't the actual issue, it's the fact that the XB180 can't even manage 1080 for the majority of releases which is a concern...

...for Jay!

Like we both said it doesn't even matter to most so why does the XBone need it if we cant tell?

Coopz surely someone into tech like yourself should know the answer to it

Companies like this have tried selling full hd 1080p for years regardless of viewing distances, developers coding in 720 as well as some equipment showing content better than others due to better specs. Mostly referring to TVs and associated sources.

Gaming consoles are no different and for xbone not fully utilizing 1080p is a clear failure and oversight, that to me cannot be played down

Sounds rushed and unfinished to get a foot in the market.

And I am one of those people who can see defects in TV sets that the average person would not see. I have 20/10 vision.

But that is besides the point

If you can tell the difference and know your stuff then it probably is an issue but what I'm saying is I doubt most would even notice so I don't understand why it even matters and i bet if they weren't told they would have no clue at all.

Its all the 720/1080p spiel when HD hit and people thinking they must have a 1080p TV to get the best picture when that's isn't the case a lot of the time. I a bet 90% of people don't even calibrate there TVs so that's even more reason why 1080p is more of a buzz word than anything.

Im tired and this probably all contradicts itself

In terms of TV shows/movies it's all about the bitrate for me, and in football matches it's all about the bitrate and FPS, but in games I would say there's a quite significant difference in detectable quality between 720p and 1080p.

The best way to show the difference is to have 720p v 1080p video comparison next to each other.

When I am back home after being away for the weekend I will do a quick 1 minute video of the same thing on Tomb Raider in 720 and 1080 on PC and then see if anyone can tell the difference.
But TBH when it comes to PC a game with AA turned on and maxed out at 720 would look better than no AA at 1080.

PS4 preorder switched to ShopTo as they've confirmed orders placed now will arrive on release day.

But in many cases, in 1080 native resolution display. Games tend to get blurry if turned down to 720.

Looking forward to seeing that

Cant say I've tested anything like that myself. Make sure you don't label them and then we can choose and see at the end if we really can tell :)

And finally I think you guys will be very surprised when you see Xbox One vs PS4 footage!

Isn't this guy comparing PS4 multiplayer footage to XB1 single player campaign mission footage though? Single player footage will always look better.

I'm expecting the two versions to look near identical.

Surely he can't be comparing two different modes? He's seemingly a bright chap and should clearly know the difference graphically between online and single player.

I read something about it here:

http://pixelenemy.com/battlefield-4...rsion-definitely-looks-better-than-the-other/

Maybe I mistook what they say but to me it kinda implies that his footage he'll release of both versions on the 29th is from Multiplayer on PS4 and Single Player on XBOX ONE.

To be honest I'd be amazed if the games looked any different, they're both supposed to be easy to develop for so I'd be baffled why the PS4 version would look worse, given how user-friendly it's meant to be, and given the (alleged) extra power the PS4 may, or may not, have.

Sounds like a pr post for his channel. And he has a built-in excuse when we realise its bs (as in comparing sp to mp modes)...as i would expect them to look the same when comparing the same modes.

The console running at 1080 now still has the option to reduce this to sub-1080 as it creaks under the weight of future games. When the PS4 is just about managing 720p at a fairly solid 30fps, how will the Xbone be getting on?

Jackfrags is under embargo until tomorrow so I don't know if he's trolling. The conversation went on with Nathan Jones actually saying he was joking:

@jackfrags @preston647 no he is trolling , he just tweeted jack 7 mins before this tweet asking which was better ? So he has no clue :)

Nathan could be trying to troll, but was absolutely right, hence the ding ding ding.

Since Jack can't say anything until tomorrow, that ding ding might've been a small slip up since that one guy got it right.

We'll see tomorrow...
