Next Gen Consoles

I guess so. Rumours are that both consoles are now 900p output for BF4, whereas Sony published on their newsfeed that it was 1080p. So that should be an interesting one.

I can't understand how one of either console can suffer considering the hardware they are sporting. Ridiculous.

I read this on another forum too
Frostbite 3 Supports DirectX 11.1 API – Faster GPU/CPU Performance on PCs and Xbox One

Now this is the interesting bit, DICE confirms that the Frostbite 3 engine supports DirectX 11.1 API as revealed by DSOGaming.
“We use DX11.1, there are some optimizations in it (constant buffer offsets, dynamic buffers as SRVs) that we got in to the the API that improves CPU performance in our rendering when one runs with DX11.1. This will be in BF4.”
This means that PC and Xbox One versions of Battlefield 4 would be more optimized than PlayStation 4. There’s also a hint at AMD’s Next “Never Settle Bundle” featuring Battlefield 4 as a free title which is a good deal for AMD users.

Xbox One OS & Xbox Live 'Is a Mess & Won't Be Working For Months'

Rumours emerge suggesting that the Xbox One's OS and online functionality are set to launch in an unfinished state.

Published on Oct 28, 2013

Update: Microsoft's Phil Spencer has responded to the rumours that are floating around regarding problems with the Xbox One's OS and online functionality via Twitter.

When asked about the rumours by another Twitter user, Spencer responded, "games are in certification now and we are playing SP & MP nightly."

Spencer suggested that the rumours are a complete fabrication, saying, "Anyone can post 'stuff' to the web".

Original story: A NeoGAF user has posted rumours on his blog which he claims come from an anonymous developer working with the Xbox One.

If this source is to be believed, then it seems that the Xbox One's OS and Xbox Live on the Xbox One is set to launch in a buggy state and it could be months before these systems are functioning as they should be.

"The system OS and network integration was written by a group of people who do not play games", said the anonymous developer.

"They don’t understand why things were set up in the ways they were designed by J Allard back in 2005"

"On 360, the OS handles all of the party and chat functionality. All you do is hook up the XBL VOiP OS API into your game, and it does most of the work for you," the source explained.

"What it results in is a shared experience across multiple entertainment. If you’re watching movies or playing games, you can do it together.

"However, this system is entirely different on Xbox One," the developer continued.

"So, lets say me, you, and Thuway [another NeoGAF user] have Xbox Ones that are online. We are signed in our profiles. Sitting at the home screen, we are considered to be in a “Xbox Party” on the server," said the source.

"There are no more ‘party leaders’. With that said if any one of us decide to start a game, the party is shifted over to that game’s party system. Each game now has their custom written VOIP.”

“In essence, it is almost exactly how it was on the PS3," the source explained.

"It is in those API 'handshakes' that is breaking the online experience.”

When asked how long these issues would take Microsoft to fix, the developer responded that it is likely to take months, rather than weeks.

The source also suggested that these issues are in no way related to Microsoft's decision to remove the Xbox One's always-online requirement.

“This was happening either way," said the source.

"This was built into the OS long ago. The DRM-removal clogged their pipelines somewhat, but this blockage was always there."

This should strictly be treated as rumour at this point.

While it would be interesting of these claims turn out to be true, it is certainly possible that they are fabricated

Getting a little concerned about all the XBO slating TBH.

Shouldn't be too fussed but doesn't sound too promising.

It's very Pro-PS I have to say. But even so, slightly alarming reports.

Someone over at GAF dug up some threads from 2007 or so.

Back then there was a lot of Sony bashing because of the ridiculous price, "get a second job", complicated hardware, etc.

The roles have simply reversed.

All these rumors seems fake. Also about the console won't handle 1080p ta launch that one is hard to be true. Those consoles were made with 1080p in mind unlike the current gen.

Regarding BF4, I'd be really baffled if PS4 doesn't look as good because surely it's meant to be really easy to programme for?

As for either console version looking like the PC version on Ultra settings, I'll eat my hat if that happens. If I had a hat, that is.

What? Everyone is talking about how the PS4 Multiplayer might look better than Xbox One Single Player, which would be a disaster for MS.

Every insider hints at the PS4 version being the superior one.

I thought that tweet was just someone kidding?

Oh I don't know. We'll find out soon enough I guess

Well here is what they were:

1 - 1080M
2 - 720U
3 - 720M
4 - 1080U

U - Ultra
M = Medium settings.

So moral of the story is:
You can easily tell the difference between 720 and 1080

With all these non-stop rumors, I'd really advise, again, against getting these consoles on day 1. Hold on to your money a bit more. Not long is left. Only under a month until we see detailed videos and posts on both systems.

The problem with that is having to fork out another £45 for Fifa if i cancel my pre-order.

I wonder if shopto do a money back thing..

And it's in!

Admittedly a non retail version, but close.

So only a 50% increase in resolution for the ps4!, rubbish! ;)

So which is meant to look better?

The PS4 looks a lot more blurry than the Xbone on most parts but then again on other parts the contrast on the PS4 looks better than the Xbone.

Without them side by side who the fuck cares in marginal differences. If it was night and day better i would but it aint.

DF f*cked up the capture.

The issue here is simple; Tom had a limited amount of time to capture this stuff and was not able to do so in a normal environment. If mistakes were made normally, it would be easy to go back and correct, but with the way this worked, it wasn't really possible.

Why so different? DF uses their own hardware for capturing while DICE were handing out Elgato boxes to everyone else. The DF hardware is actually much more capable but it works differently and, without the experience of working with these new consoles, I can see a situation where settings were dialed in wrong.

JF used what DICE provided and probably didn't even attempt to change any settings which, in this case, turned out to be for the best.

This is a good example of the differences:

Is there any impartial views on the graphic differences or are the fanboy sites just having a field day?

I'm still getting an xbone.

BREAKING NEWS :D

Anyway, those images and videos aren't really selling me on any PS4 superiority to Xone. The text maybe, and that electric towers-image I suppose has very clear difference but I'm not really enjoying the game if I notice stuff like that, am I.

If dice would of coded the same resolution of bf4 on the ps4 than xbone then it would show allot more clearer on the comparisons IMO.

As there is greater pixels and processing involved it shows the ps4 is a better performer however xbone looks better in some instances to due that.

Ps4 to me is the better platform to go for as this will be built apon.

Still a disappointment as neither are a patch on a PC

Sensible thing would be not to buy either for now, but I am not sensible so keeping my ps4 order.
